Multiple Ipod users on same computer?

I have 3 children with their own IPODs. How do I create 3 separate Itunes libraries so that each child's ipod can download only their own music.

Need help.
We have 3 iPod 5th generation using one computer and each of us have different tastes in music/movies/games etc. I just spent 6 hours redoing my personal setting to resync my iPod after my son reset it for his tastes. Is there any way of setting up preferences within iTunes for each iPod to prevent or elivate this total waste of time. When adding new music, audiobooks, and/or movies it should be a no-brainer to resync them but it is a total pain-in-the-arse.

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
a) Sharing a single iTunes library
b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
c) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings

If both iPods have all the same music in their iTunes libraries (or if they're using the exact same iTunes Library) and both have the option selected to Sync All Selected Songs ... then they'll both have everything on them.
If you go by the two user accounts method, make sure the iPod is set to sync only selected songs/videos/etc, and then that ONLY the songs, etc, they want are selected.
If you use the playlists method, make sure that each iPod is set up to sync only the playlists they want. Personally, I'm using the playlist method for my two iPods. The other iPod's in the house use yet another method that is much more complicated and involves creating multiple iTunes libraries for the same account.
To answer the question of the "Privaledges" question, I think you were trying to go by the two accounts method. If so, the account installing iTunes has to have Administration rights. But once it's installed once, you can RUN it from multiple accounts without installing it again. Just browse to the iTunes.exe file and run it in the other account. When it runs, iTunes will probably load with an empty Library.
This happens because iTunes just created a new library file in the new account's "My Music\iTunes\" folder. That's a good thing. Then if you go to iTunes Preferences and change the location of the iTunes library to where all the music is, and let iTunes manage your music folders, it will add everything to the new library file.
Now, both accounts have the exact same files added to their independent Libraries. From here, they can Un-click or delete the songs they don't want in their library--just make sure to let the users/kids know NOT to Click "Move to the Recycle Bin". That will delete the file so that neither account can access it. When they delete files the other user may want, they'll have to select "Keep File(s)".
But then, they should have their own private music libraries WITHOUT actually having the music stored in two separate locations, possibly making lots of duplicates and wasting hard drive space. I'm pretty sure in both Windows XP and Windows Vista you can change the permissions of user accounts to where they CAN'T delete files, and that may actually be something you'll want to try if you think they'll just end up deleting each other's music permanently.

My son's computer has "died" and I want to allow him to use Itunes on my laptop....My ipod is already in use on my laptop and has a library etc..... Can he also use Itunes with his IPod???

Multiple iPod users with one computer?

I am the mom who knows nothing, the 21 yr old is at college and started all the ipod stuff on the computer - regular old ipod and the old shuffle. The 18 year old lost his 2006 x-mas present U2 ipod (it was stolen and he can't look at another ipod as he hasn't gotten over the loss). The 12 year old whose b-day it is today rec'd the 2gb nano (the silver $149.00) for her gift and is upset and frustrated as it is the end of her b-day and we can't load one song! We upgraded to the latest version of itunes, we selected the songs from existing library-somewhere between 25 and 50 songs, we plugged in her brand new nano that should take 500 songs and rec'd errors that the songs require a little over 2gb and there's only 1.73gb space on the ipod. I know there's lots of info out there...the 800 number is open from 6am to 6pm, i've looked at the website for 3 hours now...can someone at least point me in a good direction to find out how to load songs on the 3rd ipod in the house? Can she share the songs in the library on the computer from her brothers'? We even added songs from her audio cd's today to the library and couldn't get those on the ipod either.

I just thought of something else when it comes to the message about not having enough room. It sounds like some of those songs you tried to sync are in an uncompressed format with very large file sizes. Right click on any of those songs, then "get info". At that point you will find what format & bitrate those songs were imported with, it will say something like mp3 or AAC@128kbps, the number can be different. Post back with that information. When Apple quotes a specific capacity for any iPod, that is based on the average 4 minute song imported in AAC format at 128kbps. AAC@128 to import your daughter's CD's should be fine, so use those import settings when "ripping" her CD's into the iTunes library.

Syncing problems when using multiple iPods on the same computer?

I own three iPods. An 8GB nano, a 16GB touch, and a 64GB touch.
iTunes seems to have no problems with the nano, but it seems to have issues from time to time with the two touch iPods. "Syncing" sometimes becomes "screwing up" in the form of deleting content that I have purchased.
My latest attempt to transfer a purchase (Toy Story 3) from my 64GB touch resulted in a "sync" which has basically corrupted my media libraries. I can see on iTunes that the media is still on my iPod, and even play it within iTunes from my iPod; when I disconnect my iPod from my computer and attempt to access the same media on the iPod by itself, both my music and my video libraries are showing up blank.
Has anyone else had the same problem?
NOTE: My 64GB iPod touch is not the latest version; it doesn't have the HD camera, but it does have the mic input. My 16GB touch is even older, having neither the camera nor the mic. The 16GB touch is an even bigger mess, with app icons frequently appearing as big grey blocks instead of the pictures they're supposed to be.
I like my 3 iPods. I like iTunes. I like Apple.
I just don't like it when things stop working the way they're supposed to.

Multiple Ipods on the same computer

I have an ipod mini, as does my roommate. We both have itunes and have had no issues downloading music and transferring to our ipods. Recently, an ipod shuffle was added to the computer successfully. Now, I cannot update my iopd mini, the songs will not transfer from itunes to my ipod mini.
The version of itunes that came with the shuffle is newer than what I was using, could that be tbe problem?

Two ways to do it.
1-Create separate Windows user accounts.
2-Create your own playlists with the music you want and sync that playlist to your iPod.
I do it #2.
I have one library with all music in it. My daughter also puts her "music" in it.
I create 2 playlists. One for her and one for me.
Mine contains only the music I want, hers contains her music.
Since I have a 4GB Mini and I have more than 4 GB of music, I also create a Smart playlist to cycle my music.
Smart Playlist named My iPod Music.
Criteria is;
Match all the follwing rules:
Playlist is Chris's Music
My Rating is not 1 star
Last PLayed is not in the last 3 days
Limit to 3700 MB.
Live Updating
Open iTunes prefs -> iPod.
Select Automatically update only selected playlists and I select this playlist (My iPod Playlist).
As I listen to the iPod, I rate the songs I do not like as 1 star. Next time I sync, these songs will get removed from my iPod and will not get put back on.
If you want to cycle all the music on the iPod, simply select the Smart Playlist as the source in iTunes (not on the iPod). Click on a song in the playlist and press Ctrl-A (Select All), then press Delete.
All the songs will disappear from the palylist. Since it is a Smart Playlist, it will immediately get repopulated, based on the criteria created above.
Then resync the iPod.
You can create many different Smart Playlists.
- Not listened to in 3 months
- Top 25 songs
- Songs rated 4 or 5 star
- Led zeppelin
etc.
Make the fisrt criteria of these Smart Playlists;
Playlist is My iPod Music.
Make sure to add all the playlists to the iTunes prefs ->iPod -> Auto sync only these playlists.

How to add multiple ios users on same computer

I currently use windows to sync apps and music on my Iphone. My Wife also shifted to Iphone recently and now if she connects to my laptop, Itunes starts syncing my apps onto her Iphone as well. Is Itunes not smart enough to maintain separate profile based on separate apple id?

We have three ipods in our home - new g5 (mine) and 2 minis. We all use the same computers. Basically our library contains around 15gb of music (everyones).
We have individual play lists - mine: good music; daughters rap or thumping stuff - lol.
When you first plug your new pods on you get a screen up which asks you what you want to do (its in preferences usually). Chose the option to automatically update the following playlists and select which one you want to match with that particular pod. My youngest daughter has a few playlists i.e on the go, chill etc. so she selects around 4. I have one, and my elder daughter has a couple.
Its easy to do (especially if I could work it out). Good luck.

Create multiple Windows User Profile with each managing his own iTunes account and library.
To create a user account on Windows 7:
To open User Accounts, click the Start button , click Control Panel, under 'User Accounts and Family Safety', select Add or Remove User Accounts.
Click Create a new account.
Type the name you want to give the user account, click an account type(make sure to give Administrator), and then click Create Account.

I'm trying to use home sharing to share content between libraries so some of the combined content in a given library, can be synced to an ipad. Instad of having mulitple computers, i have multiple libraries on the same computer using two desktops. How do I share within the same computer?

iTunes must be running for home sharing to work. There is no way to have home sharing running simultaniously for two users on the same computer.
Simply add the media files using File > Add File/Folder option in iTunes.
