Multiple ipods(iphones) on 1 itunes account

I setup an iTunes account for my daughter and her iPod 3 years ago - in my name/credit card etc - I now have purchased an iPhone and am able to use the same account, but I cannot download, or even buy for that matter anything she has purchased (says already purchased). Is there any way I can get the items off her iPod, or repurchase them - or is it time to get a separate iTunes account for her?
Thanks for any help

Yes. You can easily have multiple iPods on the same iTunes account on the same computer. Each iPod will show up with its name when plugged in, and each iPod can have its own set of preferences (i.e., what music, videos, photos, audiobooks, etc. to sync).
What you can't do easily is use the same iPod on multiple computers with different instances of iTunes. One instance of iTunes has to be "in charge" of an iPod.

How to update software on multiple iPhones using same iTunes account?

Here are more details on my situation which should help clarify things...
I purchased three iPhone 4 models back when they first came out (for my family) that all share the same iTunes account for access to apps and music, but each phone/user still has his/her custom contact list, email accts, and select lists of apps and music from the one iTunes acct library.  The problem is (as I understand it) that I can only update the software on one of the three iPhones – the primary phone I used to setup the iTunes acct without wiping out the separate contact lists, etc. As it stands today... the first (primary) iPhone associated with the iTune acct has been updated with the latest software version 5.1.1 and sync'd up with all the apps, music, etc from the one iTune acct, while the other two iPhones are still running on the original software version 4.0.2 and are experiencing problems now. I was advised by AT&T back in January that it would be necessary to setup separate iTunes accts for the second and third iPhones in order to receive system updates and still be able to manage separate contact lists, etc. If I go this route, I assume we will lose all the apps on phones #2 and #3 that we have been "sharing"... correct? Since this AT&T advice was prior to iCloud coming out, would iCloud be a better solution or at least part of the solution? I really don't yet understand how iCloud works. Hopefully, one of you can help me??
we have 2 iphone 4's synced to the same itunes account for apps and music since the day we bought them, but each has a different icloud acct. they have both been updated on the same itunes account with every update that has come out since we bought them in december of 2010. nothing on either phone has ever been lost or duplicated. having said all that, maybe i'm missing something here, but we have had no problems. we do have itunes setup to sync manually. i do believe i'm a piker compared to lawrence finch, but i'm just telling you what happens in my house. maybe check with apple? is there a store near you?

As a clarification, you can have up to 5 devices with iTunes.
Sorry, this is incorrect.  The limit of 5 relates to the number of computers you can authorize to use iTunes, NOT the number of iOS devices you can sync with a single iTunes library.  You can sync as many iOS devices as you like to iTunes.  See whitewater2's post below... he is syncing at least 6 iOS devices with the same iTunes library.

  • Easiest way to untangle two iPhones on one iTunes account

I blame myself for this problem.
My wife and I have two iPhones. I'm into the music so I set up an iTunes account a long time ago for my multiple iPods. It's now come time to disengage my wife's iPhone from my iTunes account. I know how to set up a new iTunes account. I'll get her a separate e-mail address and create the new iTunes account. The problem is I do not want to lose all her photos, contacts, etc., from her iPhone when I go to link her phone to her iTunes account.
I'm guessing if I set up the new iTunes account and then back up her phone to the new account's iCloud file I may be able to get around most of these issues.  Is that correct? Please advise if not. Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Wife and I use same iTunes account (log in for iTunes) for our stuff.
We both sync with same computer.
However, we have separate logins for the computer thus we each have our own Profiles.
While you can do it with one profile (iTunes knows difference between phones) it will become a pain if you sync contacts/calendars as you only have one set on the computer thus you may end up mixing your data there. This is why you should have different logins for your computer thus.
Using one iTunes account does make things easier though as you only need to buy an app once and sync it to both devices (can do that with two accounts as well if both are authorized together in iTunes but becomes a pain).

  • What is the best way to manage multiple ipods using the same itunes?

    Hi Everyone
i am trying to manage three different ipods through the one Itunes, all with very different tastes, not sure if I am doing it the best or easiest way so does anybody have a simple solution on what you're supposed to do, to keep it all simple!
    Cheers

If you have created a new Windows user account you need to log out and then log back in with your original user name. By default each Windows profile will have an independent iTunes library.
If instead you managed to create a new library within the same profile. click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key, keep holding until asked to create or choose a library. Click Choose and navigte back to your original which should be at <User's Music>\iTunes.
    Your question as posed was:
What is the best way to manage multiple iPods using the same iTunes {library}?
in which case Selected Playlists is probably the best approach. Simply create a playlist for each device, Alice's iPod, Bob's iPhone etc. and sync the device with the appropriate list.

  • ICloud with multiple family members sharing one iTunes account?

How will iCloud work for the case where multiple family members share an iTunes account but each has his/her own iPhone/iPad/PC?
Will iCloud replicate content based on email address, unique Apple ID, iTunes account, or??  If iTunes, we could have trouble as three of us share our iTunes account (started when our daughter was young and continued for simplicity).

Keep one Apple ID for iTunes purchases (apps, music, etc.) for all family members on the iTunes Store and use different Apple IDs for each iCloud user. That worked for me.

  • How do I sync multiple iPods to the same iTunes Library?

How can I sync multiple iPods to the same iTunes Library?

The same way you sync just one. If y want different media on each iPod then only select the items you want synced to each iPod
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
Try syncing using the manual method
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
Also, I would go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says prevent iPods... for syncing automatically so that you can more easily check what you want syned

Hi...My Ipod Touch was recently stolen. In order to help the local police deptartment I need to supply a seria number for the Ipod. Of course, I did not wrtie down the serial number, but I have used he device on my Itunes account. My question: Is there a way to retreive the serial nuber of my Ipod touch from my Itunes account? Thanks you all....

    Yes. See bold below
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order
Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product

  • Can i add an additional iphone to my itunes account and how?

can I add an additional Iphone on my itunes account or can i have multiple itunes accounts on my computer?  thanks, sd

You can do both. Adding a second iPhone is no more complicated than adding the first; you can also have multiple iTunes libraries on a computer and content from multiple iTunes Store accounts in a library. If a library contains protected content from more than five iTunes Store accounts, you may run into trouble when syncing.

  • How do i use 2 ipod touches with 1 itunes account?

how do i use 2 ipod touches with 1 itunes account?  can they share apps and music etc. I'm not very good at any tech so advise would be much appreciated.

Yes. You can sync an unlimited number of iDvies that you control to one iTunes library/account. If using the same iTunes library on the same comutr just make sure that yu go to the ap. music and other pane for the iPod in iTunes and select sycn selected items. Not the the whole library.  That way each iPod can have it own contents.
