Multiple ipods on same itunes (want same music on each)

If I get a new iPod and hook it up to my iTunes at home, what will happen? How do I get it to just update the songs that are on my iTunes library.
I just don't want my songs to be erased...has happened to me twice

Do I need to change any settings before doing this?
No.

  • Different accounts, same itunes, still share music and apps?

Hi, my mum currently has an iphone and that is connected to her own itunes account. Im thinking of getting an iphone, but if i get one will i be able to create my own itunes account but still share the apps and music? we will be using the same itunes on the same computer. So can we still share the apps and music but have seperate itunes accounts?

All of the msuic and apps purchased from the iTunes Store are tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase them. So, if you use another Apple ID you won't have access to the other purchased content, unless you purchase it with the 2nd ID as well.

  • I have three iPhone 4 models purchased in late 2010 that all share the same iTunes account (apps, music, etc), but I can only update the software on one of the three iPhones. What is the best solution to manage these devices for software updates, apps?

I have three iPhone 4 models purchased in late 2010 (for my family) that all share the same iTunes account for access to apps and music, but each phone/user still has his/her custom contact list, email accts, and select lists of apps and music from the one iTunes acct library.  The problem is I can only update the software on one of the three iPhones – the primary phone I used to setup the iTunes acct. What is the best solution to manage these devices for software updates, apps? This is probably a common problem with families wanting to share apps and music without realizing the issues created by this approach. As it stands today... the first (primary) iPhone associated with the iTune acct has been updated with the latest software version 5.1.1 and sync'd up with all the apps, music, etc from the one iTune acct, while the other two iPhones are still running on the original software version 4.0.2 and are experiencing problems now. I was advised by AT&T back in January that it would be necessary to setup separate iTunes accts for the second and third iPhones in order to receive system updates. The problem would be how to keep all the apps, etc from being deleted off the second and third phones that were originally loaded from the one iTunes acct. Since this AT&T advice was prior to iCloud coming out, would iCloud be a better solution or at least part of the solution? I really don't yet understand how iCloud works. Hopefully, someone out there can help me??  Please?

  • Two phones on the same iTunes want to separate them

Me and my wife are on there the same iTunes account. I would like to separate our accounts and phones

Simply make a new Apple ID at appleid.apple.com and sign into the newly created account on your phone on every app and setting (App Store, iTunes, iCloud etc.). It would be better if you are to delete everything downloaded using the old account your wife will now have on your device as you will be unable to update apps if they were not purchased using the Apple ID you will now use. Delete everything and re-download it with your new Apple ID and leave the original Apple ID for your wife's device. Also don't forget to sign into your new Apple ID on your local computer so that when syncing, the computer doesn't get confused and start deleting apps and doing random things.
    Hope this helped

  • Multiple ipods with 1 itunes account

I have a 30gb iPod that I have for a couple years and use it with itunes.
I just purchased a iPod shuffle and want to use the same itunes account to put the same music on my iPod shuffle.
    Can i do this?
When I connect the iPod shuffle, it says it needs to be upgraded but I dont want to do anything to mess up itunes.
    Thanks for your help!

Yes, you can sync as many iPods as you want. I sync between two and four, depending on what I'm using my various iPods for (yes, it's an addiction...). iTunes will recognize each device as unique.
It sounds as if iTunes is telling you that the software on the Shuffle needs to be updated. That shouldn't affect iTunes in any way. If iTunes is telling you that iTunes needs to be updated, it still shouldn't be a problem. However, before upgrading any programs it is always wise to have a full back up of your data files.
    Best of luck.

  • Is it possible to synch multiple iPods to one iTunes library?

    Hi --
I had an old Windows XP machine sitting around with a pro sound card, so I put a 1 TB SATA drive in it and use it as my iTunes machine in my living room. The plan is to put ALL of my 1400+ CD collection into iTunes as full-fidelity WAV files (yes, I can hear a difference, and no, you can't convince me to do otherwise - there are a lot of advantages of using WAV files if you've got the space). Doing this, of course my entire record collection will not come close to fitting on one 160 GB iPod, but in reality I don't need to carry the whole thing around at one time anyway -- BUT -- I do figure I will probably need two iPods to carry around everything I need (I mostly play music in my car and on my boat; don't really use headphones much), AND I can probably separate things reasonably by genre: Rock on one, Blues & Jazz on the other. So my question is this: Is it possible to synch two iPods to the same iTunes library? Are there any problems with this?
Another question for anyone from Apple: Any plans to offer at least 8X oversampling on an iPod? Even when using WAV files, connected to my control room monitors an iPod still doesn't sound as good as playing CDs on a decent quality DVD player.
    Thanks!

If you want differnt selections of tracks on each iPod, simply create a playlist for each user and on the Music tab use the options to sync music to selected playlists. I manage our four iPods this way. Rather than use manual playlists I have used the grouping field to record which iPod each track belongs on, e.g. Alice/Bob/Charlie and create smart playlists to be synced to the ipod, e.g. *Grouping contains Alice*. An advantage of using this approach is that the grouping information is stored in the file's tag rather than the iTunes library which makes it a simple matter to recreate the playlists if you ever have to rebuild your iTunes library from scratch. (Since .wav files don't have tags this won't help the original poster)

  • How do I synch multiple ipods to my iTunes

I have 3 iPods - a mini, a nano, and a regular kind. How can I synch them all to the same computer containing iTunes? I also want to download different contecnt on each, as I have far more content than the amount of space on the nano...and of course, I use them for different purposes.

  • Multiple iPods on one Itunes account

I have had an iTunes account on my laptop for years, and have it currently hooked in withan iTouch.
My fiance just recently bought a new iPod, and I am wondering if I can hook her new iPod to my laptop w/ the iTunes account, and not ruin anything?
Also, she is about to buy a new laptop, so if she can put music on her new iPod from my iTunes account, when she puts her new iPod on the new laptop, will it wipe it off?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Make sure each iPod has a unque name and just connect the iPods to the computer one at a time. Check the apps and other items that you want synced to each iPod.  Also see:
