Multiple Ipods sharing Itunes

Hello all - Maybe someone can help with this one - I've got multiple ipods all sharing the same itunes - Once I have all the songs selected for one of the Ipods, is there a way I can save that? I'd like to have one devoted to 3 or 4 genres - and the other devoted to others - but I'm constantly having to go through and change the selections, depending on which ipod is being updated. Any ideas? Thanks!

Have you considered creating a separate playlist for each iPod and loading it using the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists'. Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". This is particularly useful when your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod. When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync".
Open iTunes and create a series of playlists to update each iPod from, call them -My iPod1, -My iPod2, -My iPod3 for example (the dash will position them at the top of the playlists in Sources). Drag whatever content you want to have into each playlist. Now connect your first iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the first playlist you made from the selection and click Apply. Repeat the process with each iPod choosing the relevant playlist.
If you want to load each iPod with separate Genres you can make a series of Smart playlists that will automatically collect the songs from designated genres for you and simplify matters. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod: Syncing Music to iPod

  • How to use multiple iPods in iTunes??

Had existing iPod touch and bought a second one, need to know how to setup in iTunes and have different libraries if possible

    Hello hog head,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can create a second library by holding down the Shift key upon opening iTunes. From there, choose to create a new library. For more and information regarding using this method and others for managing multiple iPods with one computer, see this Apple support document.

  • How do i sync multiple ipods to itunes

Hi can anyone tell me how u can sync multiple ipod touch to i tunes. Have 2 i phones and 2 ipod touches in the house xx help

The same way you sync just one. If y want different media on each iPod then only select the items you want synced to each iPod

Try syncing using the manual method

Also, I would go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says prevent iPods... for syncing automatically so that you can more easily check what you want syned

  • Managing multiple iPods using iTunes question

My wife and I both have our own iPod Nano's. Of course, we don't always share the same taste in music. I know we can make our own playlists, but is there a way to customize iTunes so that it only puts her songs on her iPod and only puts my songs on my iPod.
Also, is any solution someone posts good for a Mac or a PC - my wife's coworker who has a PC has asked the same question since she has multiple iPods at her home.

For reference for future users that are reading this thread for help. I have tested this with our different iPods.
There are 3 methods one can use at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
Method 2 will work in that you can create a playlist or playlists [in iTunes] and can select which playlists go to and show up on different iPods. However, please note when using Method 2 that you won't save any iPod space on any iPod as all the music from iTunes will still be placed on all the iPods. It is convenient in that you can have only your playlists show up on your iPod [or show up on different iPods as Playlists that go to each iPod can be selected for each iPod (when) inserted].
This is complicated to explain, but when you select Sync Music to an iPod (which you'll want to do for all iPods since it's all about getting music to the iPod) you'll get to select which Playlists show up on individual iPods [that is currently connected to the computer] but in a nutshell all the music will be on all the iPods (the music is just hidden away from sight but still uses up the same amount of memory on each iPod).
This makes my head hurt thinking about it. But you should avoid method 2 if you need to save space on a specific iPod. If you have plenty of space on all your iPods and only want to see different playlists on each of them, then method 2 is fine. My thinking is that method 2 is fine until your different iPods start to fill up with music, then you should go to method 1 or 3 at the link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
I hope this didn't confuse anyone more than it's confused me and if what I've posted is incorrect, then someone please amend my post with clarification.

  • DRM for iPod/iTunes for multiple iPods, shared computers

In my family there are four people who use iTunes/iPod. Two are adults with Apple IDs, two are children who do not (and will not) have credit cards. We have two shared Windows XP computers and two shared Mac OS 9 machines. We just got our third iPod. Thus far, the first two iPods have been connected to just one machine (a WinXP; iTunes has been used from just one Windows account, I think) and the third iPod has not yet been connected to any computer. I need a sufficiently general explanation of the DRM scheme and relevant configuration options to understand what I can/should do in this situation. Thanks!

    Hi, Mike.
I need a sufficiently general explanation of the DRM scheme and relevant configuration options to understand what I can/should do in this situation.
The scheme is that songs purchased on any given iTS Account can be authorized for play on a maximum of five separate computers. An iPod can contain items from a maximum of five different iTS accounts at a given time.

  • Multiple users sharing itunes songs?

    hi,
my family shares our imac (me, wife, 2 daughters) and we all have our own identity/logon. we also all have our own devices such as ipods that we use to synch our own itunes libraries. we also all listen to some of the same music. i'm the admin on the imac and have moved my itunes library to the itunes music folder for the shared user so i can add the songs we all want to each itunes library. when i go to add these songs to someones itunes library, some songs purchased from itunes don't show up when logged on as another user other than me. logged in as me, i see everything.
have i done something wrong? any suggestions on how to do this?
    thanks!
    tony

what you can try is to authorize iTunes on each account (login, identity) to play/use content purchased with the other iTMS accounts.
for example, authorize daughter #1's iTunes to play music purchased with your, the wife's, and her sister's iTMS accounts.
authorizing iTunes for additional iTMS accounts is basically very easy. all you have to do is +log out+ of one account (click on the account name in the iTunes store window and select +sign out+ from the pop-up dialog) and into the other, and then they will both be authorized. (be sure to just *log out*, not de-authorize ).

  • Multiple ipods one itunes; repeat registering

I had a ipod that just died. I am adding a new one to my computer at the same time I happen to be setting up my kids for christmas gifts. I have done the multiple libaries fine however now when I plug each on in to make updates itunes asks me to register the ipod again! I have registered each one at least three times now. Any advice??

I've seen this mentioned on the iPod forum a few times. The advice there was to click on "never register" and that seems to have helped some people.

  • Using multiple ipods on itunes...

Currently, my husband and I both have classic iPods and iPhones. We each have our own iTunes accounts on our laptops and run them separately. We have a very large CD collection which we have been backing up on an external hard drive. What would be the best way for us to both be able to use the same external hard drive but also have our own iTunes accounts? We have different tastes in music so there are some CDs that I do not want on my iPod, and vice versa. Any suggestions will be very appreciated! Thanks!

  • Multiple ipod with itunes

PLEASE HELP!!!! I have a 3G 20GB ipod and my house mate has a 4GB ipod mini and we are wanting to use the same i tunes programme to transfer songs to both the pods. it is fairly obvious that the mini will not hold as much as the 20GB pod so how do we transfer only selected songs to his pod without disrupting the updating and transferring of music to my ipod??????is there a simple way?any help would be greatly received!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Mark Richards (Email:[email protected])

ok, I kinda get that....But I have a bigger problem. My I just got an Ipod Nano for christmas. My sister has an older version (the 20GB) and when I downloaded my software, it no-longer alowed hers on to get on and update her songs. We want seperate Itunes, especially since hers holds more than mine, so can we do that? I don't want the hassel of checking and uncheacking songs. Can I have hers under her name and mine under my-own? On top of that, My dad just got one to. his is the same type as my sister's. Can we each have our own library of somgs?

  • Managing multiple ipods with Itunes

itunes won't let me copy songs from one library linked to a nano to a Video ipod whose library is on another computer

Assuming that all iPods, music and libraries are yours the best bet would be to set the iPods to update manually. Also try this discussion string for other suggestions: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=322004. Please let us know if any of this helps.
