Multiple Itune Program accounts

I'm new to the ipod and iTunes.
Can itunes have multiple acounts within its progam for multiple users running it on one computer??
If I have 4 family members and we all have ipods, can itunes have separate accounts for each family member??
How is this done if it can be??
I have not downloaded itunes yet, I just want to get this clear before I do.
Thanks
Bob

You can each have your own iTunes account - this article has some info about how to do this http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1495

  • Multiple iTunes Match accounts (one per Windows profile)?

    Hi,
Forgive me if this subject had been covered before (I did have a quick dig), but is it possible to have seperate iTunes Match accounts, one per Windows profile (on the same box)?
Our Windows 7 system has multiple users and we don't want to merge music into one library just to get Match working.  Is it the case that it's limited by MAC address / physical hardware?  (I don't want to go down the route of having one network interface per windows profile either!)
If somebody from Apple reads this, are there any plans to support this future iTunes releases?  It would bring you more revenue with a household willing to pay for more than one subscription...
    Many thanks,
    Matt.

You can authorize a single copy of iTunes to up to five iTunes Store accounts. So yes, you can have both your account and one for your daughter in the same system.

  • Can multiple iTunes Store accounts be linked to one iTunes Library

Hi there! I'm having trouble getting a clear answer to this question. If I'm being confusing, forgive me. We are a family of three with two iPod Touches and one older iPod. We recently purchased a new iMac and I migrated our common iTunes Library to the Mac. We won't be using to PC anymore. There are three separate accounts on the Mac but all of them point to the same iTunes Library.
Up until now, we have been using my Apple ID/iTunes Store account for all purchases. I would like to set up a separate iTunes store account for my daughter so she can use all the gift cards she gets to make her own purchases. *If I give her a separate iTunes Store account, can whatever she purchases go into our common library?* I don't want to her to lose access to all the apps and music we have already accumulated.
If both accounts can download content to the same library, can I expect any problems when I sync the different iPods? All of them are set up to sync manually so that we can choose which music playlists, movies and apps go to which device. Will my daughter have to sync her iPod twice -- logging each iTunes store account once -- to get all her content? Are there problems with updating apps?
Sorry this is so long! I keep getting the same answer from an Apple tech via e-mail but it doesn't address the exact points of my concerns! Thanks for any help you can provide.

We have several macs, several ipods, a couple of iphones, several itunes store accounts. So far no problem. You might have to share passwords if you want to share content. I think iStore accounts can only be used on up to 5 computers. We have 7, so have to be a little careful about that. I don't think there is a limit on how many iDevices can be used with one account. I also don't think there is a limit on how many accounts can be used on a single computer (might be wrong about that). You have to be logged into the iStore to download content, and your computer has to be registered with the account to use the content, but once it is on, and registered, syncing to an iPod is not a problem (you do not have to login in again for each account the content was purchased from). I'm just glad I only have two kids, and one wife - things could get trickier in a big family with . . .

  • ITunes 11.0.3 and multiple iTunes Store accounts - any Idea

    Hello,
I have an German and an Austrian iTunes Store Account. Main reason for that
is that Apple does not allow you to transfer Apps bought from an account in one Country
to an iTunes Store account from another country, although those countries may be
    members of the European Union.
Anyway: Prior iTunes Version 11.0.3 handling Apps from two different accounts was
relatively easy. I clicked on "Apps" on the left hand side panel in iTunes.
All Apps would be then displayed.
Then there was an "Check for Updates" Button. Click on that would display *only* the Apps
that need update bought with the account that is *currently* signed into the iTunes Store
and then  just click on the "Update All" Button and thats it. Then I would sign out and sign in
with the other account, repeat the procedure described above and that's it.
Now with iTunes 11.0.3 Apple made the entire thing a night mare. I click on Apps in the left hand
iTunes panel. Then there is an "Updates" tab. You click on that and then all Apps needing an update
from all iTune Accounts you have are displayed. You click on update all and then iTunes starts updating
the Apps until it comes to the first App bought with a different iTunes Store Account. Then is stops with
a warning message. Then you need to sign out and in. Then restart update process until it comes
to an applications that is bought with a different iTunes account and so on and so on.
Any idea or work-around how to get iTunes 11.0.3 to have the same behavour liek teh versiosn before ?
    Thank you!

Is this the error your gettings?
If so, remove the installer, and redownload the itunes set-up installer

  • Multiple iTunes Store accounts

I have an account with the Canadian iTunes Store. The particular album I want is not available through that store. It is, however, in stock in the USA store. Am I, therefore, unable to buy it?
I am sure this issue is dealt with elsewhere but I have been unable to track it down.

You can only buy in another country's store if you have a credit card with a billing address in that country.

  • HT1206 can you have multiple itunes accounts one computer with seperate music library for multiple iphones?

is it possible to seperate multiple itunes store accounts and music libraries on 1 computer for 2 iphones ?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You just need to create a second iTunes account on your PC or Mac.
To do it, open iTunes while holding down the Option (Alt) key (on a Mac) or the Shift key, and press the option to create an iTunes option. You will have to open iTunes with that key when you want to switch libraries

  • Using multiple iTunes accounts on one iPhone

I have a personal iTunes account & a work iTunes account -- I realize it's possible to sync my iPhone with both of these accounts via iTunes, but is it also possible to access both of these accounts from my iPhone to allow for direct purchases form the App Store on my phone, or do I have to pick one account for my phone & stick with it? Thanks!

Sorry, but wjosten's reply is incorrect, as you are not asking about using the iPhone with different computers, only different iTunes Store accounts on the same copy of iTunes (all on the same computer), Right?
You can use multiple iTunes Store accounts with one copy of iTunes - i.e. one iTunes library with content from both your personal and work iTunes store accounts. Content from both will also sync to your iPhone.
re: the question you ask about whether you have to stick with one iTunes store account on you iPhone - since iPhone OS 3.0 it has been possible to swap accounts on your iPhone. The only issue - that I know of - that this can cause is situations where the badge notification for applications that need updating on your iPhone can be misleading if you have Apps on your phone from more than one iTunes account.

  • HT1711 can multiple itunes accounts sync together

I have triplets that got ipads and want to know how we can share the things we buy on itunes but keep the itunes gift card money seperated between kids!  We currently have one itunes account and manually download the songs, games, etc that we want.  Can I have a seperate itunes account for each kid and still allow us to share our purchases?  Do we need to use different computers or can we use the same one?  Please help this extremely limited technical mom with 3 anxious kids!

You need to use multiple iTunes Store accounts with one iTunes library and log into and out of the iTunes Store as needed.

  • Should we share itunes store account if we use home sharing?

Right now, my children and I share an itunes store account, but it is getting hard to manage their itunes gift cards this way. Should I just bite the bullet and have them each get their own account? How will this affect home sharing? Do we just have to authorize multiple itunes store accounts on all the computers or does that even matter now that the content is no longer copy-protected. I only have some copy-protected items on the one original account and it is quite a bit of money to upgrade them so I would rather not do that. How would this work with syncing devices?

No home sharing does not delete anything.  It does exactly what it says it does, it shares your music library with others and vise versa.  I use it all the time in my home, and works perfectly.  All it does is wirelessly adds music to your music library that you are able to play.  Do you need help setting up iTunes Home Sharing?
Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with,
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • Confused about multiple iTunes on same computer

Hiya- I've read as much as I can on multiple iTunes/libraries/accounts and I'm even more confused.
I have one drive partition with all my music which I use as my iTunes library. My wife and I each have our own Windows logins/accounts and access iTunes from each account (sharing the same music folder). This is what I want to do: when I add newly-acquired music to iTunes on my Windows account (i.e. drag new albums onto iTunes and have it copied to iTunes library), I want my wife's iTunes to automatically update its library to see the new albums I've added.
I hope that makes sense. I'm either over-complicating this issue and there's an easy/obvious solution or it can't be done (?) Thanks for any help.
    .

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
As I see it the scenario is this:
    An iTunes Library at C:\Users\<User1>\Music\iTunes
    An iTunes Library at C:\Users\<User2>\Music\iTunes
both of which point to media at some shared location which for the sake of argument we shall call <Shared>\iTunes Media.
(I've assumed <Shared> is not either of the first two folders, neither of which contain a media folder. If the assumption is false post back and I'll give different instructions)
In this case choose one of the two libraries to be "the one" which both accounts will use from now on. Copy the contents of the iTunes folder from that account into the <Shared> folder. Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and continue to hold down SHIFT until asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library file in the <Shared> folder. Test that all works well. Close iTunes. Since your <Shared> folder is unlikely to be called iTunes, the main iTunes window will probably have had a weird title just now. Create a new folder called C:\iTunes and move everything iTunes related from <Shared> into it, i.e. the library files called *iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel* and the *Album Artwork* and *iTunes Media* folders. You can delete any .xml files as one will be recreated automatically. Now use the SHIFT-start-iTunes method to open the library at C:\iTunes. Test that all is still well. Close iTunes, switch profiles, use the SHIFT-start-iTunes method to open the library at C:\iTunes. Hooray, both profiles are now using the same library. Any updates you make using one profile will be visible when you open the library with the other.
One possible drawback. If you use the fast user switching method to flip between accounts then you have to remember to close iTunes before swicthing otherwise the second user will find the library is locked.

*How to use multiple iPods with one computer*
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iPods using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their iPod. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • Combining purchases from multiple iTunes acconts

When I gave my daughter her MacBook, I had everything set up for her to be use my iTunes account. At some point, in a warped sense of independence, she created her own iTunes account on the same laptop and started making purchases. (I saw "warped" since she is still using MY credit card!). We now have in a single Library purchases made under my account and her account. This causes problems in that occasionally she is forced to change iTunes accounts to access certain content. This is also causing some confusion with the new Home Sharing feature.
Is there any way to consolidate these purchases under a single account (mine)?

However, your message says the opposite - one device ("a given copy of iTunes") using multiple iTunes Store accounts.
Which is also the case, though I can't find a current KB article that spells that out explicly. I mentioned that article above for the process on authorization.
This seems to work for most music, but Apps have a problem, forcing an account change.
Application synchronization is a different issue. To what are these apps being synched, an iPhone or an iPod touch? Or are they games for 5th-gen/Classic iPods? Knowing exactly what it is you need to do and where things are breaking down (including error messages if any) will help folks here to offer suggestions.
    Regards.

  • My old laptop crashed, and took my iTunes account with it.  I got a new laptop, and want to sync my iTouch to my new iTunes account.  It gives me an error message stating that I can't sync to multiple iTunes accounts, but I can't access my old one!  Help!

My old laptop crashed, and took my iTunes account with it.  I got a new laptop, and want to sync my iTouch to iTunes.  It gives me an error message stating that I can't sync to multiple iTunes accounts, but I can't access my old one!
How can I get my new iTunes account to allow me to Sync my iTouch?  The only option it gives me is to "transfer purchases" from my iTouch to iTunes, but that is only about 25% of my iTunes library-most of it is CDs I have uploaded.  How can I Sync without losing all my music from my iTouch???
Also, I have lectures and photos, etc. on my iTouch that I don't want to lose.
I've tried a few of the iPod copy programs-the free ones and the ones you have to pay for, but I can't find one that will work for ALL my content on an iTouch.
Right now, I can't get anything from my iTouch to iTunes, and I can't update my iTouch with my new iTunes purchases, so I'm stuck!  Help!

Also-I tried to use my backup hard drive, but I wasn't able to drag/transfer/send/move any of my muic files onto my iTouch when the iTouch was connected to my computer.  I can't figure out why it won't let me do that.
The only thing I can see when I open my iTouch on my computer is my file with photos.  I can't see videos, music, or anything else.  What's going on?

  • Multiple iTunes open in multiple 'user accounts'- at the same time

We have three people in our family, each with their own iPod/iphone, we sync our iPod/iphone on the same computer but in different ‘user accounts’ in xp.
Now the problem is ; only one iTunes program can run at a time, so if one person is downloading a podcast and another logs into their user account then they can’t open iTunes because it is open in another user account already.
There must be a way to run multiple iTunes at the same time in different user accounts?
    Anyone?
I’m running XP on an i7 machine
