Multiple iTunes accessing the same songs on local network??

Hello all,
I have imported all of our CD's into itunes on my computer. I would like for my wife and children to be able to access these songs and create their own playlists on their own computers from these songs. The kids have Windows Vista, and my wife, like I has an iMac.
Is this possible?? If so are there any copywrite issues??
Thanks in advance

Yes, there is a way to share music across accounts on a Mac. First, you have to enable multiple logins (the Apple support person helped me with this).
Then each person has to allow sharing in their itunes applications.
Then, for one person to see and use another's music, that person has to be logged in and itunes has to be running in their instance, even though that instance is not active.
Good luck.

  • How can I remove multiple copies of the same song from the iTunes listing?

How can I remove multiple copies of the same song from the iTunes listing. The program seems to be picking up the same songs from, for example, my user area and my public area in the C drive

As above, Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library, however it is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve/merge ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

I have multiple copies of the same song in my iTunes collection.  For example, the song is on the original album, the "Best Of" album and on the "25th Anniversary" album.
Do we know how iTunes Match handle such situations?

  • Why do I have multiple copies of the same song?

When I open my iTunes on my iPad I have multiple copies of the same song.  It seems that when I connect and sync to my computer that it does not recognize that the song is already on my iPad, so it sends another copy.  When I try to delete the second copy from my iPad by swiping to the left and hitting delete, it doesn't delete and I see the cloud icon like it wants to down load if from the cloud automatically again.  How can I clean this mess up?

    Hi R_3S,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like your Music application is showing your previously purchases music, with the cloud icon, on your iPad as well as what is synced onto it. Please follow the instructions in the following article to turn off Show All Music.
    iTunes Match - iPhone
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph6e2dfb83
Just show music that’s been downloaded from iCloud. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.
    Have a great day,

  • ITunes Syncs The Same Songs Everytime

iTunes 10.6 with new iPhone 4S
When I sync my iPhone everything syncs normally but about 120 songs keep syncing over and over.  I did a little research and it appears that it's the ID3 tags need re-doing to fix it.  The problem is it scrolls thru it so fast it's next to impossible to get the songs with the problem.
Is there a way to get a list of the problem songs?
Is there an easy way to fix this issue?

I had this problem for a while and it's really annoying especially if you have a large collection and multiple songs that have this issue. Everyday I add a few new songs to my iPhone and every time I have to wait for those track to re-sync before I can add one new track. I looked all over and couldn't find anything to help. I tried editing the mp3tags and converting the songs with another program and even downloading another copy of the file but no matter what every time I placed them back into iTunes it just kept happening.
I have no problems with my iPods just my iPhone. The only difference I could think of is that I have the phone set up to convert the songs with a higher bit rate to 128 AAC when they sync to the iPhone. iTunes does the conversion on the fly without actually adding the 128 AAC file to iTunes library, I figured out every song I had a problem with was being converted from a higher bit rate.
SOLUTION =  I just converted those songs to 128 AAC and then replaced the original tracks with the new smaller songs. Remove the original problem songs from the iPhone and sync. PROBLEM SOLVED. It no longer re-syncs the same songs over and over. I have plugged my iPhone in hundreds of times and I no longer have the issue. I still have the higher quality songs on  iTunes and on my iPods I just don't sync them to iPhone. It does suck that I have to have multiple copies of the same song in a different format but it's a minor inconvenience compared to waiting for iTunes to convert those files on the fly every time I plug my phone in.
So just check your iPhone settings on the summary page if it's set to convert the higher bit rates check the info for the problem songs. If the bit rate is higher than 128 use this method and it should take care of the problem. If you don't know how to convert songs with iTunes just go to the "Edit" menu select "Preferences" then "Import Settings". Change it to AAC 128 bit rate click "Ok" . Left click on the problem songs and select "Create AAC Version"
OzziesMAC- I had a similar issue with catching the songs. If you have a lot of songs and have trouble catching which tracks are re-syncing just grab a pencil and paper and write down the names of as many as you can catch. Use this fix on them and then sync. Afterwards unplug and re-plug the iPhone and repeat the procedure until you knock out all the problem tracks. I had over a hundred and I knocked them all out in less than an hour. It's well worth it.
Let me know if this method works for you. Good Luck.

  • Why is my mac syncing multiple version of the same song?

I wonder if anyone could help with this:
My sync takes so long sometimes and it often syncs 2 or 3 versions of the same song on loads of albums.
I have to go through manually one by one and delete them off my phone, and sometimes i only stumble across duplicates by accident.
    Its very frustrating.
Im on OSX 10.9.2 with an iPhone 5s running the latest version of iOS.
    Thanks.

eek that sounds unpleasant. Are the songs different in any way?
Are these albums using playlists to sync?
If so…check that the the playlists on the Mac don't have the duplicate copies - in this case the same file will be reused (not using extra space on the device).
Do they show as multiple files in iOS's Albums view? You may need to tap 'More…' and then 'Edit' to add the 'albums tab' to the bottom menu. Save and check for duplicates.
I'd reboot everything, backup the device to iTunes, disable music syncing to empty the device and resync to see if that helps, if it fails consider resetting the iPhone. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Try another sync. If that is OK restore the backup & see if it comes back.

  • Multiple users accessing the same server.

Ok here is my issue, about 2 months ago I started having issues with Filesharing on my 2012 Mac Mini running Lion server (current update). We have 3 users that VPN into our conpany network and usually access the same folder, 2 months ago they started conflicting with each other. When one VPNs into the network and connects to the server they are fine, if the second one connects to the network they are fine but if the second one tries to access the fileshare they knock the second one off the server. The first one's connection eventually hangs and they have to completely disconnect from the VPN. I am wondering if this was caused by a patch or if there is something else going on. I have tried to reboot the server and checked the logs for anything but I am not seeing what may be causing this. I have restarted the Filesharing in the Server app and still get the same problem, the users are connecting via local credentials to the server. I don't think it is a password issue since either user can log in and access as long as another user doesn't so I am not sure what the issue could be.
    any help appriciated,
    josh

By 'standard record locking system' do you mean there is nothing I need to do programatically? No block level properties to change?
So you are saying this is just the way it always works. So as soon as one of our call center agents opens a record all I have to do is create a pending update to any field?
But won't another user be able to open the form and just query that record not knowing another user has it open?

  • Multiple playlists with the same song but don't want duplicates on the iPhone

I have many playlists to organize my music and many songs end up in multiple playlists. I want to have these playlists in my phone but do not want duplicate songs taking up space on the phone. How do I do this?
To be more detailed, I am a musicain and I keep playists of the songs I need to know for different bands that I'm in and often times there are songs that multiple bands require me to know. Also, I have DJ playists that again, will utilize the same song. These are two examples of how one song can be in multiple playlists. I really need these playlists in my phone but I can't have  some Beatles song four or five times in my phone. Isn't there a way to import a playlist as a pointer or locator to metadata so the playlist, once imported, just parses through the existing songs on my phone and generates the playist? This seem like it would be a fairly simple thing for Apple to do, no?
    Thanks!

Hi, Damon M., and thanks for answering me!
So my Playlists and Smart Playlists are only made up of music (plus four or five music videos that don't represent a lot of space), no Audiobooks and no TV Shows.
When I click on my Music folder, it says I have 4.12GB on the bottom (including the Music videos).
Since I don't sync anything else on my 8GB iPhone but this 4.12GB of music, reorganized in Playlists, I don't see why I get a box saying I need 12GB to fit everything in.
So what I do now is manually sync my music, which on my iPhone takes up about 4GB. But I want my Playlists too...
It's as soon as I want to sync on my Playlists that everything goes wrong.
So... do you have any more suggestions/ideas?
    Thanks,
    Vincent

  • ITunes plays the same song over and over again.

I have created several playlists on my Itunes for Windows.  I want the songs to play at Random...but it plays the same song over and over again.  If I hit the random button, it will play a different song, but it will then play that song over and over and over again.  So, if I want to go to the next song, there is always a requirement that I manually set it to the next song.
It's odd because I have been using Itunes while listening to music on my computer and this never happened before.
    Any thoughts?

  • Prevent multiple users accessing the same form

    hi,
    i am working in forms
i have a requirement like this
if more than one user are using the same form and try to access the same record then the second user should not be able to do transaction
he should be popped up with a msg saying that other user is working on it
can any one suggest how to do this in my form
    thanks in advance
    selvaraj s

That is pretty much exactly the way Forms works automatically.
Two users can use the same form, and can even display the same data record. One of the users can make changes to the record -- Forms locks the row upon the FIRST keystroke in the first field the user begins to change.
Once the row is locked, the second user is free to look at the record, and won't even know if another user has begun making changes. However, if second user tries to change even one field in the record, Forms pops up the message, "Could not reserve record (2 tries). Keep trying? Yes / No"
There are also protections so if the first user actually changes the row and commits, then the second user tries to make a change. Forms will automatically detect whether changes were made, and if so, will undo the change and issue the message, "FRM-40654: Record has been updated by another user. Re-query to see change."
The above automatic processing works very nicely. If it will not work for you, then what is it you need?

  • Multiple User Accessing the same record issue

I am planning to design an app where we have the following use case requirement.
If a user who is logged into the system is accessing a record(plan in this case) anyone else who is logged into the system at the same time should be locked out of that same plan but should still be able to access other plans in the system. A plan has many things associated with it so the 2nd user should be locked out of everything associated to the plan being accessed by the first user.
What is the best way to implement this at the application or the database level?
Here are some options we have been bouncing around.
    1. When the first user logs in and accesses the first plan we lock the plan at the app level using a singleton class which has one and only one instance on the app server. The plan_id can be put as an entry into a hashtable which can be in the session and is created if one does not exist. When the 2nd user tries to access the same plan, since the plan_id is still in the hashtable he would be locked out. However we somehow need to timeout the first user after 30 mts of inactivity or so so that others can access the plan and are not locked out for ever if the first user walks away from his PC or does not close his browser, thus keeping his session alive indefinitely.
    2. In the database in the plan table we add a column for 'locked'. When the first entry is created in the plan table locked column is marked as 'yes' or 1 and when the user closes the browser we use some javascript to trigger an event which changes that 'yes' or 1 to 'no' or 0 thus unlocking the plan. However the big issue we see in this concept is that we will have to put a javascript onUnload method in all jsp pages in the app because the user could be anywhere in the app after starting his plan access after login.
Conceptually the 2 options are the same but one is done at the app whereas the other is at the database level.
Is there a better way to handle this scenario using transactions or some other technological option.
    Thanks

Another solution involving no modification of the database structure:
As soon as a user want to access a plan, try to UPDATE the plan record... if it fails, the record was locked
by another user before. When the user has finished with the plan, you can COMMIT or ROLLBACK the changes, which will free the lock for other users.
An advantage of this solution is that if program crashes unexpectedly, there will automatically be a ROLLBACK.
Of course, you need a transaction for this... and perhaps more if you want to separate the 'locking transaction' (virtual update just for restricting access) from the 'operating transaction' (in which you will
do the DB stuff: inserts, updates, deletes, etc.)
    Hope this helped,
    Regards.

  • Installing multiple instances accessing the same database

    Hi,
I want to install two different instances of Oracle 10g in two different machines which will access the same database which will be stored in the shared storage.
Is it possible to install them without installing RAC? The instances will be one active and the other passive, so the services will be up in one server and down in the other and the switching (shutting down one server and starting up the other) will be manual.
Two servers will be running Linux and clustered in Linux level.
Does Oracle offers this solution without installing Clusterware software?
    Thank you

    > The instances will be one active and the other passive, so the services will be up in one server and down in
the other and the switching (shutting down one server and starting up the other) will be manual
Missed this part as I was thinking proper cluster and RAC.
This is neither. Yes, this can be done using two servers and shared storage.
Is it a good idea? Not really. As this configuration does not provide redundancy at physical database level. You loose that storage.. bye-bye database. Does not matter whether you have a 100 backup servers that can be used.
Thus the business reasons that you are trying to meet with this config have to be clarified and expectations determined.
Separate servers using Data Guard will be a far more superior solution in many respects.

I have been trying for a long time to find out multiple threads access the shared data.

It depends on what you synchronize. Non-static methods synchronize on the object, so if you're using several objects, you'll be able to call each from their own thread.
Make your method synchronized or use only a single object and see the difference.

I added the song "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" by Boston by going to the iTunes Music Store and purchasing it as a ringtone.  If you do it from your computer you have to sync it to your iPod Touch.  Then in the alam sounds panel there is a place for "purchased"  Your song should appear there.
