Multiple iTunes issue

I downloaded music off iTunes on my home computer. Then I went to my mother's and accessed the iTunes at her house to get a few songs I still had there. But when I went to get the music at my mom's, the ipod lost/deleted all the music I had on it from home. Why did it do that? Is it possible to get music from iTunes at 2 different computers? Any help would be appreciated.

Another option if you don't want your iPod linked to both computers is to simply move the files from your mom's computer to your own. See this article: Using your iPod to transfer music between computers

  • Multiple itunes issues following ios5 update

Looking after my music when I first got my iphone was easy and I could do everything I wanted to, but since the upgrade, Ive got various problems:
    - I cant make playlists anymore.  I can create a new playlist in iTunes, but it wont let me drag and drop the music from my iPhone into it.
    - I can rename tracks in iTunes by right clicking and using 'Get Info' - it saves the new name in iTunes, but doesnt transfer this to my iPhone despite syncing
    - On the summary page of iTunes which shows my iPhones capacity, about three quarters of my music is showing as 'audio', but the rest is showing as 'other' (which may have something to do with the issues above?) - I've deleted it all and put it on again but it does the same thing.  Also its the same music from the same sources as before the upgrade, when none of these problems existed!
    Any help much appreciated! Thanks

iOS 5 does not run on an iPhone 3G. Do you have a jailbroken/modified device? It only runs on an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.
If it is indeed not a 3G, let's move on. Are you accessing contacts through the phone app or the contacts app? Are you trying to connect to iTunes via Wi-Fi or USB? By adding/updating apps, you mean accessing the App Store or your computer running iTunes?

  • Multiple iTunes Issues - Awful, awful Program

I have a brand new iMac and iTunes is ruining my experience.
    1) Each time i start the app it thinks it is brand new and will not save any of my settings or windows.  I get the Welcome screen each time.
    2) If I do not start it, it will eventually start iteslf and then Not Respond.  It is active in the dock and in the activity monitor, but it will not force quit in any way.  I need to hold down the power button to kill power to the mac.
    I have tried -
    deleteing preferences and restarting
    fixing permissions
removing the helper app from the user log in
    resetting the PRAM
    reinstalling iTunes from a download
NONE of these have any effect.

Nevermind all.  I found this tutorial on how to downgrade to 10.7, which solved the issue.

  • HT1689 How do I download multiple itunes accounts on one computer under one user?

Recenlty moved to one account on our windows 7 computer to cut down on potential malware issues that allowed malware to migrate over to other user accounts.  However, we have different iTunes accounts and want to be able to download our individual music from each of our devices that include an iphone 4, iphone 4S, and ipod.  How do I create this capability under one windows 7 user account?

I bought each of my two daughters their own iPods for Christmas, and when I set them up, I used my iTunes account login for both of them.  It has become an issue sharing my account on their devices, because all of my information comes up on their iPods (like my messages).  How can I set up new accounts for each of them, since I only have one computer?  I want each of them to have their own iTunes accounts so they can stop using mine.  Please help!!!

  • Confused about multiple iTunes on same computer

Hiya- I've read as much as I can on multiple iTunes/libraries/accounts and I'm even more confused.
I have one drive partition with all my music which I use as my iTunes library. My wife and I each have our own Windows logins/accounts and access iTunes from each account (sharing the same music folder). This is what I want to do: when I add newly-acquired music to iTunes on my Windows account (i.e. drag new albums onto iTunes and have it copied to iTunes library), I want my wife's iTunes to automatically update its library to see the new albums I've added.
I hope that makes sense. I'm either over-complicating this issue and there's an easy/obvious solution or it can't be done (?) Thanks for any help.
    .

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
As I see it the scenario is this:
    An iTunes Library at C:\Users\<User1>\Music\iTunes
    An iTunes Library at C:\Users\<User2>\Music\iTunes
both of which point to media at some shared location which for the sake of argument we shall call <Shared>\iTunes Media.
(I've assumed <Shared> is not either of the first two folders, neither of which contain a media folder. If the assumption is false post back and I'll give different instructions)
In this case choose one of the two libraries to be "the one" which both accounts will use from now on. Copy the contents of the iTunes folder from that account into the <Shared> folder. Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and continue to hold down SHIFT until asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library file in the <Shared> folder. Test that all works well. Close iTunes. Since your <Shared> folder is unlikely to be called iTunes, the main iTunes window will probably have had a weird title just now. Create a new folder called C:\iTunes and move everything iTunes related from <Shared> into it, i.e. the library files called *iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel* and the *Album Artwork* and *iTunes Media* folders. You can delete any .xml files as one will be recreated automatically. Now use the SHIFT-start-iTunes method to open the library at C:\iTunes. Test that all is still well. Close iTunes, switch profiles, use the SHIFT-start-iTunes method to open the library at C:\iTunes. Hooray, both profiles are now using the same library. Any updates you make using one profile will be visible when you open the library with the other.
One possible drawback. If you use the fast user switching method to flip between accounts then you have to remember to close iTunes before swicthing otherwise the second user will find the library is locked.
You might also find the following tip useful:
*How to use multiple iPods with one computer*
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iPods using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their iPod. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

After updating with iTunes 12.1 for Windows 8.1, when I restarted my computer, my headphones no longer work. According to my computer they do. Is this an iTunes issue? I did the audio troubleshooting and it says everything is fine. I have a Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7280.

Download/install an app is a know possible solution.
    3. Install another app from the App Store
If all user-installed apps are not launching, it could be an Apple ID authorization issue. Download and install an app that isn't already installed on your device to reset this information.
Note: If you have installed apps using multiple Apple ID accounts, you may need to perform this step for each account.

  • Combining purchases from multiple iTunes acconts

When I gave my daughter her MacBook, I had everything set up for her to be use my iTunes account. At some point, in a warped sense of independence, she created her own iTunes account on the same laptop and started making purchases. (I saw "warped" since she is still using MY credit card!). We now have in a single Library purchases made under my account and her account. This causes problems in that occasionally she is forced to change iTunes accounts to access certain content. This is also causing some confusion with the new Home Sharing feature.
Is there any way to consolidate these purchases under a single account (mine)?

However, your message says the opposite - one device ("a given copy of iTunes") using multiple iTunes Store accounts.
Which is also the case, though I can't find a current KB article that spells that out explicly. I mentioned that article above for the process on authorization.
This seems to work for most music, but Apps have a problem, forcing an account change.
Application synchronization is a different issue. To what are these apps being synched, an iPhone or an iPod touch? Or are they games for 5th-gen/Classic iPods? Knowing exactly what it is you need to do and where things are breaking down (including error messages if any) will help folks here to offer suggestions.
    Regards.

  • Using multiple iTunes accounts on one iPhone

I have a personal iTunes account & a work iTunes account -- I realize it's possible to sync my iPhone with both of these accounts via iTunes, but is it also possible to access both of these accounts from my iPhone to allow for direct purchases form the App Store on my phone, or do I have to pick one account for my phone & stick with it? Thanks!

Sorry, but wjosten's reply is incorrect, as you are not asking about using the iPhone with different computers, only different iTunes Store accounts on the same copy of iTunes (all on the same computer), Right?
You can use multiple iTunes Store accounts with one copy of iTunes - i.e. one iTunes library with content from both your personal and work iTunes store accounts. Content from both will also sync to your iPhone.
re: the question you ask about whether you have to stick with one iTunes store account on you iPhone - since iPhone OS 3.0 it has been possible to swap accounts on your iPhone. The only issue - that I know of - that this can cause is situations where the badge notification for applications that need updating on your iPhone can be misleading if you have Apps on your phone from more than one iTunes account.

  • ITunes issues with Windows XP - crazy error message

I've been using iTunes with XP and have no issues for years now. Today, when I went to open iTunes I received a message that Windows was configuring iTunes for installation. When I cancel out I get a Problem with Shortcut box, Fatal error occurred during installation!

One more question though under Program Files-iTunes, I have multiple iTunes folders, labeled iTunes(2) and iTunes(4). Should I delete these or leave them alone?
I don't think they're any immediate cause for alarm if they're what I think they are ... have you done some system restores on that PC at some stage, Matt? If a system restore is done to a restore point "over the top" of an installation or upgrade of a program, sometimes the system restore will put program files dating back to the previous version back on the PC. By design, it doesn't want to overwirte existing files on the PC, so it renames the top-most folder containing the files it has put back "<Program name> (2)" or "<Program name> (3)" if there's already a "(2)" and so on.
(Because the installation database for the program doesn't realise that there are any such files in folders "<Program name> (2)" etc files on the PC, they generally don't get removed in the course of regular subsequent updates or uninstall/reinstalls of the program and they stay lurking around on the PC ... it's actually precisely the same phenomenon that we just exploited in order to convince the iTunes repair install to go through ...)

  • How to connect to multiple iTune stores?

I listen to music from different countries and I find it difficult not to be able to connect to multiple iTunes stores of different countries in which I can easily get album info/artwork/etc and purchase music and many more. I wonder if I ve missed something which allows me to do so. Otherwise I hope Apple has thought about the possiblities for customers to do that and hope it will come with the new iTune in time.

The iTunes Store in a country is intended only for use by that country's residents, and only while they are in the country. To use the iTunes Store in a country you need a credit card (or other card type if acceptable in a country) issued in that country, billed to an address in that country, and also be physically present in that country when using the store.  You are also restricted to waiting 90 days between country changes.
I am sure Apple wants to sell you as much as it can in order to make as much money from you as possible.  However, it has to abide by restrictions placed upon it by the media rights holders and to a lesser extent by country laws.

  • How do I consolidate multiple Itunes folders on one computer?

I had a mishap with my external hard drive (I didn't know how to use it properly..yup USER ERROR!) so I have three different Itunes folders intertwined in my music folders with different previous Itunes libraries.  I made a backup of the entire music mess on a flash drive, have a new computer and finally an ipod to put my music on...
Can someone give me some detailed steps to be able to consolidate all of my many Itunes libraries and let me know how I can access the music in my previous Itunes libraries?  I want to make sure that I still have the rights to the music that I purchased in the past.  I had some music in the Itunes cloud which is great but not nearly all of it...DRATS!
I found some steps to consolidate music from different computers onto one but I'm not sure that the same steps apply to my situation.  Here are the links that I was looking at in eHow:  http://www.ehow.com/how_5704389_consolidate-multiple-itunes-libraries.html  and  http://www.ehow.com/how_8149083_can-itunes-libraries-two-computers.html.

  • How can I share only the same music with multiple iTunes accounts

    Hello
I hope someone can help. [I am using Windows Vista (Unfortunately J) and iTunes 10]
I am trying to share the same music library with multiple iTunes accounts. Basically, I want to know if there is a way to automatically upload to other libraries when importing new music into my library, vice versa. [Better information below]
Me, my sister and my dad all use iTunes (on different iTunes accounts), and before now we used to have are own music on our own windows user. Due to many duplicates and a loss of hard drive space I have brought an external hard drive and organised all the music.
It was all going well - I first populated all the music onto my iTunes, exported the library, and then imported it on both the other users. However! Because this is only a copy of the library, when I try to import a new CD, it will not show up on there’s until I “Add File to Library”! Originally I thought about using the same library however we each have are own apps etc, that we don’t want to share.
If you need anymore information please ask!
    Matt

    Hello roaminggnome
Unfortunately the support is down at the moment, I will have a better look later. I did go though the Apple support previously, however I found nothing that worked.
The first thread I came across was “Home Sharing” however no mater what I did, it did not appear in the iTunes sharing list (I did go though the “Show Sharing Networks” support as well)
Secondly, I saw “Using A Single Library With Multiple Accounts On The Same PC” (Something like that) but all this did was let us share the same music location, if I was to rip extra music, it will not show in there library

  • Have found multiple iTunes Library.xml files. Moved Library to new Hard Drive and it needs to be completely rebuilt?

Hello. I have a Mac Mini operating Mac OS X 10.7.2. I recently had to move my iTunes Library to a new hard drive. I followed the directions on how to move the library and refind everything yet when I do so what comes up is a mere skeleton of what I had. I have had to hunt down my purchased Apps, Music and Movies and re-add them to the library. I also noticed in doing this I have multiple iTunes Library.xml files ... shouldn't there only be one?  If so how do I clean this up without doing any accidental damage (i.e. how do I find the one that is being used and delete the rest?)?  If I delete the others is there any risk of losing purchased content? Lastly syncing my iPads has become a nightmare as I get the "This iPad is currently synced to another iTunes library" message. Obviously something

It's hard for me to picture the exact situation. It sounds like you still have your library file on the internal but some files on the external, and maybe some on the internal, some of which are in the library and others not...  By re-adding things after consolidating it may have made things into a hodge-podge. Yes, that article you referenced says: "iTunes for Mac: Moving your iTunes Media folder"with Media Folder being the emphasis.  You probably should have just moved your whole iTunes folder.  Still, moving the media folder as instructed should not have messed up the library.  Did you make the mistake of starting up iTunes before the external drive had mounted fully and it then told you it couldn't find many files?  How you proceed to sort it out will depend upon how much time you want to spend and how important things such as ratings and playcount are to you.  I have not actually used the consolidate feature across different drives myself (and don't feel inclined to do so here to test ).
If you are in the USA you can download some previous purhcases with iCloud, but not all.
Here's a bit on what an iTunes folder should look like:
What are the iTunes library files? - [http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660]
More on iTunes library files and what they do - [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes#Media_management]
Library files with graphic and explanation of different iTunes versions - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13169517
Once you get iTunes working off the external drive it should just put new media to the external when you add it.
I have almost no experience with synching (I synched my neice's iPod, once, about 4 years ago).
