Multiple JDS as a name serivce question

I have three JDS (5.2) running as a naming service for host and user authentication: one master, and two slaves. My problem is that the ldap servers themselves point to another ldap server for information. So when I take one server down (patching) everything pointing to that server (ldap1) goes down, and everything pointing to ldap2 (which uses ldap1 for a naming services) goes down as well. The basic effect is I lose 2/3 of my applications.
I read an LDAP server can not point to itself for authentication. Do I just need to remove the ldap client and run the ldap servers old school (local accounts)? Or is there another solution?
I do have normal hosts (non-LDAP servers) pointing to a VIP (virtual IP). Do I just need to treat my LDAP servers the same?

No, I'm not saying that.... I guess I should have spelled out the "clients" comment a little more.
I have all (well, a majority in the 90% range) of my clients pointing to a Cisco CSS VIP which is really all three of my LDAP servers. This way LDAP queries should never go down. I've tested this on indivudal servers and it appears to run nicely.
The problem is with my LDAP servers, and their LDAP client configurations. The axiom I'm using is: "you can not point an LDAP server to itself for name service resolution". Would pointing the LDAP servers to the VIP break this axiom?
Right now they are pointing to other LDAP servers than themselves. And when one goes down for patching (ldap1), the other LDAP server that is using it (ldap1) for it's name service resolution will also go down; effectively shutting down 2/3 of my applicaitons.
This is really a check-egg type of question.

When I setup my new MacBook Pro, something slipped by me and my computer was named First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro (using my real first and last name).
I changed the computer name in Preferences/Sharing to a new name and Preferences/Accounts to just be Mike. I can right click on my account name, choose advanced, and see that everything looks right.
However, If I do a scan of my network with my iPhone using the free version of IP Scanner, it lists my computer as First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro! And it lists the user as First-Last.
So even though another Mac just sees my new computer name, and my home folder is Mike, somewhere in the system the original setup with my full name is still stored. And it's available on a network scan. So my full name might show up at a coffee shop.
Can I fully change the name without doing a complete re-install of Lion and all my apps?

One thought... you said the iPhone displayed your computer's old name? I think that you must have used the iPhone with this computer before you changed the name. So no one else's iPhone should display your full name unless that iPhone had previously connected to your Mac. For example, I did this exact same change, and I use the Keynote Remote app to connect with my MacBook Pro. It would no longer link with my MacBook Pro under the old name, and I found that I had to unlink and then create a new link under the new name. So the answer to your question is, there is nothing you need to do on the Mac, but rather the phone, and no other phone will display your full name.

Multiple fill blank objects on one question slide?

Hellou CP users, is it possible to put multiple fill blank objects on one question slide? And if, how can I manage them for quiz reporting and correct results?

I think indeed that you want a score for each fill-in-the-blank object, and that is not possible with the default FIB question slides. Only MCQ has partial scoring.
With TEB's and advanced actions that is possible. Also with the TextArea widget, as I explained in this blog post:

TEB's have the advantage that as interactive objects, you can attach a score to them which is not the case for the TextArea widgets. But I would recommend getting Jim Leichliter's enhanced version of the TEB's as well, so that you can control what is shown in the TEB if you want to create a question with multiple attempts. I have described a use case recently in these forums but cannot remember exactly which thread. Jim's widget is free:

im having a problem with my ipod making Multiple albums of same name in itunes it shows all the songs under the same album name but on the ipod in album view the same album comes up multiple times..how can i fix that?

Is there any way to batch rename multiple files with individual names? I.e

Etc.
Are they any programs or scripts or plug ins that would do that job?

Rename multiple items
Select the items, then Control-click one of them.
In the shortcut menu, select Rename Items.
In the pop-up menu below Rename Folder Items, choose to replace text in the names, add text to the names, or change the name format.
Replace text: Enter the text you want to remove in the Find field, then enter the text you want to add in the “Replace with” field.
Add text: Enter the text to you want to add in the field, then choose to add the text before or after the current name.
Format: Choose a name format for the files, then choose to put the index, counter, or date before or after the name. Enter a name in the Custom Format field, then enter the number you want to start with.
Click Rename.
Note: To batch rename, you would want to choose the "Format" option.

FTP Activity - mget multiple files with dynamic names

Hope all is well.
I was wondering if there was a way to configure FTP activity to transfer multiple files with dynamic names from source location at daily intervals.
For example, my source files are affixed with date values (source_filename_<mmddyyyy>_<hh>.txt):
source_filename_12252009_00.txt
source_filename_12252009_06.txt
source_filename_12252009_12.txt
source_filename_12252009_18.txt
What I would like my process flow to do would be to download just these 4 files once daily based on a dynamic ftp script as follows:
open ${Remote.Host}
${Remote.User}
${Remote.Password}
cd ${Remote.RootPath}
prompt off
mget ????????
quit
In DOS batch script you would have the mget command with a wildcard as:
mget source_filename_%DATE:~0,2%%DATE:~2,2%%DATE:~4,4%*.txt
How does one go about implementing this in OWB? Does it require a user defined substitution varilable of some sort?

If you are able to achieve your objective from a DOS batch script then you can call that script for an User Defined Activity in OWB process flow .

Mounting multiple directories with same name on different severs to a single mount point on another server

We have a requirement where in we have multiple solaris servers and each solaris server has a directory with the same name.
The files in these directories will be different.
These same name directories on multiple severs has to be mounted to a single directory on another sever.
We are planning to use NFS, but it seems we can not mount multiple directories with same name on different severs to a single mount point using NFS, and we need to create multiple mount points.
Is there any way we can achieve this so that all the directories can be mounted to a single mount point?

You can try to mount all these mount points via NFS in one additional server and then export this new tree again via NFS to all your servers.
No sure if this works. If this works, then you will have in this case just an additional level in the tree.

Chart creation using multiple series with same name

I'm new to Numbers and to chart creation in general, so I'm not sure if Numbers is capable of what I need. But if so, I'd like to know how...
I have a large spreadsheet with hundreds of lines of expense data, wherein each line item falls into one of a dozen categories of expense types. I would like to create a pie chart by expense type (ie, Healthcare, Automotive, Travel, etc), but Numbers wants to treat each line item as a separate expense, even though many of them share the same name. So I'm getting multiple pie slices that all say "Travel" and so forth. I really just want one pie slice for Travel, one for Auto, etc.
So how can I make Numbers calculate the subtotals for each expense type and use those subtotals to create the chart? Is there a way to do this within the chart function or do I need to create a separate table for just the subtotals (not sure how to do that either) or what?

Here is a way to treat the problem:
In Tableau 2 column B the formula is:
=SUMIF(Tableau 1 :: B,A,Tableau 1 :: C)
The column A of Tableau 2 is a header.

NAM Deployment Question

Hi,
I am primarily interested in network performance, behaviour analysis and capacity planning. I am in the process of demo'ing a number of different netflow collector tools such as Flukes netflow collector, Plixers Scrutiniser etc.
I have heard of the NAM / NAM 2 before but thought this would be priced too high. I have done some more reading on the product and can see benefits in its ability to also analyse traffic in real time from by using SPAN.
My question is, how many ports can you aggregate into the SPAN session on the NAM 2 6500 card ? My idea is to deploy two NAM modules in our two Core 6500 switches. One "port" on each NAM will be used to collect netflow information from the rest of the network backbone (including remote branch devices), the other "port" will be used as a destination for multiple SPAN source ports, e.g. multiple Gigabit ethernet backbone links that interconects the entire backbone.
Can the NAM take this load on the SPAN? I have read that the NAM 2 benefits from supporting the 2 backbone fabric ports, does this therefore mean that it fully supports the 40Gbps connection into the switching fabric backbplane if you have SUP720 deployed ?

Multiple users under my name, can I transfer files/data onto just one user account if I have an external H.D. when I tried to delete info off one of the accounts it said I did not have permission? I assume I was in an account that was not admin.

I noticed I have set up 4 Admin user accounts under my own name with diff. variations as seen in the attchment. Some have a diff. password to log on to which I am able to do. This computer is used for my business and I need info that is scattered on the other 3 accounts to be in/on ONE admin account.
I don't know how i ended up with multiple accounts. Maybe due to having two 24" iMacs and multiple iPhones & iPad2 for me and family.
I use this computer for business and personal.
Due to multiple Admin user accounts I have important info scattered on the other accounts resulting in some accounts have some of the info to others having much more but not ALL. Some accounts have from a couple hundred songs, podcasts, etc. etc. to a few 1,000 on another Admin account.
I want to consolidate ALL of my info, files. songs, podcasts, pictures & email etc. into one Admin account and delete the other accounts to reduce confusion.
I was told by my local Apple authorized service shop that it is not easy but moving most of the info is possible. Their caveat was email would probably not be able to be moved other than forwarding each email I wanted out of each account and opening in the account I wanted to consolidate into.
As a side note, I get an error message at times saying that I do not permission/authority to delete / move files? What might be the issue when I encounter this type message?

How to craete Multiple lines in Colum name in ALV using OO concept

Hi All,
I have devloped an ALV tree Report using OO Concept, and my column names are very big say like 100 characters.So now i want display that text in 3 or 4 lines.Is there any way that text can be wrapped up and displayed on the subsequent line of the cloum name.
For eg. My requirement is like below.
The text to be dispalyed:
Leave balance for the year ending 31st mar 2005
Display outout column name should look like this
" Leave balance for the year
ending 31st mar2005."
So as you see i want it in two lines or may be more if it can be fixed.

This is a very common question but unfortunately there is no way to implement column headers having more than one line.

Multiple Flows of Same Name in One File

(FM11 on Win7)
The Compare Documents utility reports that the same file has multiple flows of the same name, and so does not compare the files. Doh!
The report from the utility seems accurate.
I see two end-of-flow markers in the file, one on the second page and another on the final page.
The flow tag names of the text frames on the body pages are identical: BodyText.
The AutoConnect box on each is selected.
I still want to compare the files, so I try this:
When I do View > Master Pages and then go back to View > Body Pages, FM says some body pages in the file override their master page layout.
Do I want to override? I say yes.
I go to the body pages. Everything looks the same.
I try Compare Documents again. Same message.
So how do I join those two flows, even though they apparently are already Autoconnected and have the same name?
Or, as an alternative, how do gain the benefits of a Compare Documents operation in a file that contains two flows of the same name?

iPhone will duplicate if you import contacts from your SIM card or namually add new contacts and save in iPhone memory instead of save in iCloud. So you have contacts from iCloud and from iPhone memory too.
Try to save your contacts just one place, like iCloud.

Hello community. Just had a few questions about my iphone and my wifes. I have had an iphone for almost a year now and have had my login email address and password set up since the beginning. I have the iphone 4. My wife today received her iphone 4s in the mail. I also currently have my iphone set up on the cloud to sync my contacts and calendar. We also have an ipad 2 which is set up through the cloud and I am the only person who uses this for work purposes. One of the main questions I have is how can I sync her iphone and mine using the same iTunes account on our Mac book we have and at the same time not have every purchase or app downloaded onto both phones? I use a few apps for work which she doesn't want but if she was to sync with the cloud or itunes she doesn't want to constantly delete the app or un-select it from syncing to her phone. Also we do enjoy playing some of the same games especially against each other but is ther a way for her to have her own seperate login for either downloading apps or a different login for getting into the game center? Also since we share the same wi-fi network at home is there a way to make it so that when I get home or she gets home and had downloaded apps while away that they don't automatically get sent to each other's phones or the iPad which I use for work? Sorry if I'm a little bit of everywhere with the questions but just trying to get this resolved the best we can. Thank you for all your help!

Each device will only sync what you select to sync. If your wife does not want an app, then she should not select it to sync.

Again, if she does not select them to sync, then they will not sync.

All using the same driver
I have a Canon printer that has a rear tray and a bottom tray
So, I will have one printer that prints to the rear and the other to the bottom
Other printers (the same one) will be set so that they print in high quality and in duplex for example
I'll name the printers 1.Canon 2.Canon 3.Canon etc
So, when I go to print, I just hit a number on the keyboard and the printer I want is selected
Can I do the same on my laptop?

Back Up - that's in case things go wrong.
In the case you cite:
You have
Mother
Mother Maiden Name
as Faces, right?
In the Corkboard view click on Mother Maiden Name and delete the 'Maiden Name'.
It will disappear and all the photos will be in the Mother face.
Note that 'Mother' and 'Mother ' (that is, with a trailing space) are not the same.
You can also just edit the name 'Mother Maiden Name' to 'Mother'
As for photos staying in manual sort, I can only say that mine do. But as I've no idea what troubleshooting steps you've used.

Migrating multiple domains with same name - how? Rename? Migrate through temporary domain?

Hi,
we have acquired another company, and they have multiple, separate domains with the same name (every site has a domain with NetBIOS name "COMPANY" and DNS name "company.local"). Now we want to migrate all these domains into ours using
ADMT.
Unfortunately, we did not manage to migrate one of these domains completely, so the trust must remain established for some time. But we have to continue with the second domain - which normally would require a trust, but of course we can't establish a trust
to two domains with the same name at the same time.
I found two potential solutions for the dilemma, but I'm not sure if both are reasonable:
1) Rename the domain with RENDOM.EXE to COMPANY2 and company2.local and then migrate with ADMT
2) Migrate COMPANY to a temporary domain such as COMPANYTEMP and then migrate from COMPANYTEMP to our domain
Given that there are roughly 100 users, 2 domain controllers and 8 other servers, what would be the better approach? Is option 2 possible at all, so would I be able to use the sidHistory attribute migrated from the original COMPANY domain in our domain at
all?
There is also an Exchange 2007 server, which seems to make option 1 impossible unless we find another way to migrate it (like, export all mailboxes to PST before migration) ...

Ok, that's what I expected. Still, I have servers in the old domain, so if I do these steps:
first create a new temporary domain i.e COMPANYTEMP and
create trust between COMPANYTEMP -
COMPANY(Right)
then do the migration with sidHistory from COMPANY(right) --> COMPANYTEMP ,
disconnect the domain COMPANY(right) ,
users will lose connectivity to any servers in the domain. I understand that it does not work with all domains connected? Of course I can't make OURCOMPANY's domain controllers see the DCs of COMPANY (right) in DNS (though I could achieve it the other way
round).
My original plan was:
first create a new temporary domain i.e COMPANYTEMP and
create trust between COMPANYTEMP -
COMPANY(Right)

--> OURDOMAIN,
Migrate users
Migrate computers

remove trusts and old domain
And to minimize user impact, all this would have to be done in one go (over night), which is hardly possible .........................
