Multiple language spelling checking

Hello everyone
I am writing to ask an advice on how to enable multiple language spelling checking.
What i mean is that when i write in russian, Pages automatically checks my spelling but when I write in english it just underlines every single word. So i would like to know if there is a way to turn on language spelling check for both russian and english as i am a student now and i need to do my english homework in english language.
Thanks, Alex.

Language is a text attribute like bolding, font, color etc. and can be part of a style.
So you can have Russian styled text and English styled text. Select the appropriate text and:
+Inspector > Text > More > Language+
Pages should then use the appropriate dictionary to check the text.

  • How can I keep Firefox from changing the language for the spelling checker?

I'm using Firefox 20.0 on Fedora 17 (Xfce) fully updated. At random intervals Firefox will either set the language to some random version of English (Zambia, much of the time) until I notice and set it back or it will simply uncheck US English without selecting anything else. It also turns the spelling checker off once in a while. It's hard to say just what, if anything, triggers this because I only close Firefox for updates, and only reboot for kernel updates. Most of the time, my computer runs 24/7 and Firefox stays open sometimes, for over a month without any other issues. I found two old, closed threads on this, but neither of them had anything applicable.

There's an issue with this because Firefox looks at the page you're visiting and decides on the dictionary based on the language code. At least according to this [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=682564 bug].
I'm still looking to see if there's anything that can be done to stand on the programs neck until it cries uncle and uses EN-GB regardless. But I'm not holding my breath.

  • Multilingual spellcheck - check multiple languages at the same time

    Hi guys,
I very often write in two languages - czech and english. I've installed a czech spellcheck library from OpenOffice (basically put the .aff and .dic files into my /Library/Spelling/ folder). Both czech and english spellchecking works fine separately but I definitely don't want to switch the language setting for each piece of text I write every time I start composing something new. I didn't find any other way of checking the spelling in more languages and the "automatic by the language" option obviously means you have to set the language of the document every time, which is quite pain in the *** resulting in not using the spellchecker at all. I don't care about recognition or setting of the language of my documents, I'd be happy with just something like a "merged language library" which would work with both languages combined. Can I do something like this in Leopard?
I went through dozen of old messages from 2008/2009 speaking about some multilingual setting in Tiger and maybe early Leopard but didn't find any solution which would work in current 10.6 OSX. Any advice?

Thanks guys, it's a bit more clear how the spellchecker works now and it seems to me like quite a mess I'll definitely use that form and ask Apple to make this work a bit better.
Anyway, it seems to me that the built-in spellchecker works pretty well for one language on places where I noticed. Do you think it would be possible to create a hybrid language library in the meantime which would contain both my languages, thus doing what I needed until Apple fixes this? I'll use this combined language for checking the spelling, nothing else. Has anyone done such a thing so far?
I haven't tried it but it should be possible if you have access to the a document with all the words.
    1. My idea is that you have word processors language set to the you have for the computer.
    2. Write a word that is in the other language, select the word and Ctrl click on it > Learn spelling. Do this for about 3 words.
    3. Now the computer has created a language file in Users > your name > Library > Spelling. It is probably named cz
    4. Open the cz file in TextEdit. You will see the is one word on each line in alphabetical order
    5. If you have a list of english word you can add those in the textEdit file. Make sure the words are in alphabetical order. Save the document
    6. May this list only will work in the word processing application where you started the custom word list but I don't know. You have to try it.

  • Spelling check & language when texting

    Hi,
I'm bilingual, living in the Netherlands with an international mix of friends, and I'd say i send roughly the same amount of texts in English and Dutch. When writing dutch texts, the spelling suggestions drive me nuts: I either have to watch the text and manually hit the ignore on the suggestions made for pretty much every single word, which seriously slows me down, or I forget to keep an eye on it, focus on the keyboard, and find I've typed complete garbage.
I know the iphone is supposed to learn, but because I spend half my time writing English messages and accepting the changes, it doesn't seem to be learning. Changing the language settings on the entire phone every time i write a text message would slow me down as much as the current process does.
I don't think there is any way to turn this feature off, but are other people encountering the same problem? I imagine there must be others texting in multiple languages? Have you found a solution? Can we start a campaign for a patch that will allow you to turn the spelling suggestions off altogether?

Simply set the keypad to have two languages. Go to Settings>General>Keyboard>International Keyboards>Dutch. Now when you text or type in any application, you will have a little globe-like button on your keypad that will change the language of your keypad. This will allow the dictionary to recognize and fix Dutch words, accents, ect.

  • How to download and install Greek language auto spelling check on SO8

I Tried to trace "Greek language platform directory" for auto spelling check,on Star Office 8, but I failed.
Greek language is available as a spelling option tool but not installed, on Star Office 8.(Writer)
__How I can download_ and install it as an add-on.??_
    Can you help me please.
    Thanks,Regards,

You can do this in all kinds of ways.
The most easy way is to download it with your pc, and use sftp to upload it to the linux machine.
(winscp can help you with getting it on the linux machine, http://winscp.net)
Which XE version you'll need depends on the version of linux (rpm or deb)
Just read the installation manual at the oracle express edition download page. SSH suffices for configuration after the installation.

  • Multiple languages autocorrect issues

On my iPhone, I added multiple languages and on the keyboard appears the 'globe' to choose one before writing an email. That way, autocorrect adjusts to that language. I added languages to my MacBook Air Air as well, but autocorrect sticks with English and makes my writing in other languages diffcult. Is there a way to have that same iPhone feature for my MacBook (and not having to switch languages in settings or turn off autocorrect)?

Not really.  OS X works totally differently in this area than iOS, the keyboard setting being irrelevant.  The most you can do is go to system preferences/language & text/text/spelling/setup and check the boxes for the languages you want and then set it to "automatic" and see whether it does anything useful for you.

  • ID CS4 spelling checker anomalies

    Hi all,
I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this?
I'm trying to spelling-check a long text document in ID CS4.  It's essentially a simple document -- all text, with some paragraph styles applied for formatting chapter headings, but nothing complex or layered.  The UK dictionary is applied in all styles, and the whole thing is set in a quality font (Adobe's Minion Pro), so I know there's no strange glyph coding going on.  Typographic quotes have been used.
The spelling checker is doing three strange things.
    1)  It's faltering after quoted speech.  If I have a line that says
    "Spell-check this," he said.
it seems to be treating the close-quotes as if they're the end of a sentence.  So the spelling checker halts on "he" and asks for it be capitalised, as if it were the start of a new sentence.  On every similar instance throughout the 400-odd page document, it's repeating this pattern.  Is this working as intended?  (That seems a strange choice for how it should work, if that's what it is.)  If not, does anyone know how to change this behaviour, please?
    2)  Words with a hyphen in the middle, like ill-fated, seem to stump the checker.  If I click on the button to add the word to my user dictionary, the button then greys out, as if it's been added, but at every subsequent occurrence of the same word the checker will stop and not recognise the word.  If I click on the "Ignore all" button, absolutely nothing happens -- the checker doesn't move on, and it will still stop at the next instance.  "Skip" will move the checker on, but then of course it'll stop at the next instance of the word.  Why is this?
    3)  Words that end with 's stump the checker completely.  It won't add them to the user dictionary (I can click on the button, but it doesn't grey out, and the next instance of the same word will hat the checker).  But neither the "ignore all" or the "skip" buttons work in this instance, either.
Any thoughts here?  I'm using version 6.0.5, so there are no updates to be had.

I used the dictionary window at the bottom of the CHARACTER window.
Resetting it in the prefs didnt do anything for me either.
It's still not perfect–you must select all the text, change the dictionary in the CHARACTER window and then spell check.
I also assume that the dictionary setting is buried in paragraph and character styles.
You can change the default language dictionary for a document or for all new documents you create. Changing the default dictionary in an existing document doesn’t affect text that has already been created or text that you type into an existing text frame.
    Open the document.
Select the Selection tool from the toolbar and make sure no items are selected in the document.
    Choose Type > Character.
Choose the desired dictionary from the Language menu on the Character panel. If you cannot see the language option in the Character panel, select Show Options and then select your language from the list.
Set the default language dictionary for all new documents
Start InDesign, but do not open a document.
    Choose Type > Character.
Choose the desired dictionary from the Language pop‑up menu on the Character panel. If you cannot see the language option in the Character panel, select Show Options and then select your language from the list.

  • When trying to load multiple language versions of an ibook onto my iPad only the first document loads

We have a sales tool that we have created for one of our clients in iBooks Author. They need the iBook creating in various languages.
We need to be able to supply the multiple versions of the same document (in the different languages) to our client and they need to be able to install the different versions onto their iPads. And they want the options of having multiple language versions on the same iPads.
We have already created two language versions of the document (a US English and an International English version).
The two documents have different file names, (although they are based on the same document). We have just changed the spelling of some words accordingly. (And we will be producing other language variants based on the master file).
We export the two documents via the File > Export > iBooks option. Then we are using Dropbox to upload the two files. The files are then accessed via the Dropbox App on the iPad.
We can download the first document (International English) onto the iPad and view it as normal, but when we try and then download the other document (US English) it downloads in the Dropbox App, but when you click on view in iBooks it opens the first (International English) document into iBooks.
You can only appear to have one version of the document installed at any one time. If you delete the first one you can then load the second one fine, but not both at the same time. If the file names are different it must be getting the identity of the document from somewhere else.
This has only started happening since using iBooks Author 2.
Can anyone offer any suggestions please. I've tried changing the version number in the option on export, but this doesn't seem to affect the result.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions
    John

Further to my earlier post we have now completed a test by saving our original document as a template, then creating a new document from the template, making necessary changes and saving as a new file. We can now upload the two separate versions to our iPad.
You cannot "duplicate" the file in any way, either by the File > Duplicate method from within iBooks Author or by simply Duplicating the original .iba file in the Finder, as this will cause the problem outlined above. By Duplicating you are obviously also duplicating this "hidden metadata" which is stored somewhere within the file which iBooks on the iPad is using to identify the documents. So unless Apple update the software to allow us to change that metadata we are stuck to using the Templates route. (Didn't have this problem on the last version of iBooks Author).
This works for what we are trying to do, which is create different language variants of the same book.
Working from Templates is probably the correct way to do it anyway, but might not necessarily be right for everyone.
Working in iBooks Author is proving to be a rather testing experience. You certainly need the patience of a Saint. Not sure it's of the standard we expect from Apple, but then I guess, as they are giving it away "free", they think they don't have to offer any support for it.
I think I would prefer to pay a fee for it and have a support route from Apple, rather than rely on a community of equally frustrated users who are all playing guinea pig and simply sharing their workarounds for a half baked product.
    Good luck to everyone!!!

  • With Pages 5.2 how can i use multiple language types in a single document

My Macbook Air Has the version 10.9.3
I'm used to work with the old version of Page.
But now I am using the new version of Pages 5.2 (1860).
I want to know with the new version how do I use an multiple language types in a single document option.
In the old  version of Pages I was using  Inspector -> Text -> "More" tab -> Language: British Inglese.
In the new Pages 5.2 I do not know how to do it
    Could you help me?
    melo

It's not possible to tag text with multiple languages in Pages 5.  Go back to Pages 4, which should still be in you iWork folder.
For the whole doc in Pages 5, use Edit > Spellling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar.

  • What is Adobe Reader MUI 9.3.4 update - multiple languages

I have a choice of 2 downloads from Adobe
Adobe Reader MUI 9.3.4 update - multiple languages and
Adobe Reader 9.3.4 update - multiple languages
Both are the same size and date.
What is the difference between these?

Adobe Reader MUI is Adobe's Multilingual User Interface version. This product is capable of installing any combination of supported languages. So, for example, you can install French, German, and Spanish simultaneously and then have the capability toswitch among those languages within Adobe Reader. The user interface changes to the appropriate language on the fly.
So if you have MUI Reader 9.3.3(and NOT normal Reader) in your machine and want to update it to 9.3.4 choose Adobe Reader MUI 9.3.4 update - multiple languages otherwise choose Adobe Reader 9.3.4 update - multiple languages (for normal Reader).
To check what you have in your machine, Goto Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and check the entry of Adobe Reader.
For MUI reader it will be
    "Adobe Reader 9.3.3 MUI"
and for normal Reader it will be
    "Adobe Reader 9.3.3"

  • GRC 10.0 Notifications in Multiple Languages

    Hello GRC Gurus,
In my Organization, We have a requirement to support French Language due to legal requirements in the Quebec provinvce. This means that all notifications to users in the Quebec province will have to be delivered in French.
I have researched this in as far as:
French Language has to be implemented as a prerequisite in SMLT
The standard notification templates will be available in French language once the language pack is installed
The issue i have here is:
can the notifications be sent to different sets of users in different languages? I see that that one message class can only be associated with one document object. Is there a way to get around this to define who will get the notification in French and who will get it in English probaly based on USER GROUP or DEFAULT LANGUAGE
Ofcourse, the message documents can be modified to present it in both English and French to make it easier but in future if there are legal requirement in others countries it does not make sense to keep adding the message body in all the required languages
    Can you please help?
    Regards,
    Prashant

    Hi Prashant,
I was looking into a similar requirement and came to the early conclusion that GRC is not smart enough to handle multi language notifications.
The reason why I say this is that whilst you can create multiple documents in SE61 in different languages, it looks like you can only create a single message class that gets aligned into MSMP, i.e no choice of multiple languages there.
What I am unsure about (as I have never bothered to investigate it) is the "message number" column in the "Variables & Templates" section of MSMP. I am unsure if you can send a number of messages for the same template and message class.
Also, I am unsure how GRC checks the user's logged in language and selects the document template.
Have you considered having the content of the email contain dual languages? i.e. first paragraph in English, second in French etc?

  • Multiple language support

    A few questions:
    1) Does the report viewer control have multiple language support? I could not find a way to resource the status bar, toolbar tooltips, or subsequent dialogs.
    2) Is there a way to support multiple languages in the reports? I'm thinking of inspecting all ReportObjects in the ReportDefinition, but I'm wondering if there's a less invasive way of handling this.
    3) Is there a way to determine the last page number of a report? I understand that not all pages are loaded initially and I'm ok with that limitation, but I can find no way to determine if the user's reached the last page other than looking at the enabled state of the "Last Page" button in the toolbar.
    Any assistance is appreciated.

    1. Yes we support multiple languages. Go here http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2SP2/en/devsuite.htm then check out Crystal Reports .NET SDK > Tutorials and Sample Code > Other Tutorials > Configuring Multilingual Client Support.
    2. This depends on what you mean by supporting multiple languages? Do you mean you want the entire report, including data to be in another language? If so then this is up to you. We don't translate the data. We only translate the tooltips, toolbar, and regionalize the data formats. You can either switch to a different data table for the correct language, create a formula to translate for you, or create a custom UFL and subscribe to a translation service to translate the data for you.
    3. Yes. Check out note 1216240 here https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects-notes.
