Multiple Libraries - Authorization Question - For NON-iTune purchased music

Please help! The questions come at the end.
I have an extensive classical music iTunes library in AAC format that I ripped from CDs I've purchased over the past 20 years. NON of these were purchased from iTunes. (I have another library on my PC with other music, and I have purchased some iTunes songs for that library). I access one or the other by pressing Shift, etc. No problem.
Both my son and I listen to classical music, and I wanted to share this library with him by moving my classical iTunes Library to his computer. (I copied the entire folder structure from my PC to his, nearly 50 GB worth). So he now has 2 libraries on his computer. One (the classical library) and his own iTunes library.
He can access the classical library (hold down shift key, etc.), but gets a message to "AUTHORIZE THE FILE SOURCE" before listening to the music. So my questions:
++ Why does he need to authorize music from non-iTunes source? I'm not trying to illegally give him anything from iTunes. My family owns this classical CD collection.
++ If he does need to authorize the FILE SOURCE, I suppose he would use MY iTUNES account information to do so. Is this correct? Or should he use HIS account information?
++ And if he does use my account info, _will he retain his iTunes account setting for his other iTunes Library_? I.e., He would have a classical music library that's authorized by me (I guess my second computer?), and his regular library with his account information?
This sounds more complicated than it is (maybe it IS more complicated than I think (sic).
Any help greatly appreciated.

I could be wrong, but if that's the exact message he's getting, it sounds more like a file permssions error in Windows rather than the typical iTunes authorization message which brings up an obvious request for an iTunes Store ID and password. I'd suggest he look at the Windows permissions for the folder and it's contents and see if perhaps he doesn't have the correct permissions to access that material.
Hope this helps.

  • Family share and non itunes purchased music

My wife and I are going to get an ipad mini for the house that we will use for a lot of music storage and entertainment for the house. We have a TON of cd's we purchased back in the day. If I load those into my iTunes, will my wife be able to access that music using family share? Or can you only access music that was purchased? She wants to be able to get that music on her phone.
    Thanks!

Okay, so I did as you said, and tried to remove all music from my iphone, and nothing changed on the phone.  The unplayable music and playlists all still show up and the purchased music is still playable and on the phone despite removing it all.
I just now told it to not sync any music at all (unchecked the larger sync music tab) and for some reason it repeatedly re-checked itself.  After 7 or so attempts I got it to only put on 10 songs (idk why any or even why these particular are on)  but now I'm going to try re-adding songs back on.
YESSSSSSS! IT WORKED!!! GAWAAHAHA FINALLY, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • HT4914 transfer non itunes purchased music from Ipod to Itunes

I have an ipod nano 3rd generation with music content (CDs and Itune purchases) that was synced to an iTunes library on an old pc that crashed and was never recoverable.
I now have another pc with a new iTunes library and content different from that on the IPOD.
I would like to transfer the content of that old ipod to the library (in a nut shell I do not wish to take out all my cds and install them manually on the new PC to have their content available for iTunes.
I pod pages say you can only transfer music from an ipod to iTunes if that music was purchased from iTunes and not if it was from CDs.
Is there a way around this or do I really have to transfer my CDs one by one to the new Itunes
Not: I am willing to buy iTunes match if that helps...

  • Unable to view non-itunes purchased music on iphone 6

I am unable to see unpurchased music(CD's I own) on iphone6 after syncing with itunes.  I have tried both options for Music->Show All Music, but it hasn't helped.  I also have iTunes&App Store->Music enabled. I can see the songs on the device within itunes.  Suggestions?

After a lot of research, I somehow managed to stumble upon a solution even though I can't say with certainty what did the trick.  Still, I thought I would share the experience in case someone else runs into this problem, which also has been described as having music "greyed out".
A lot of research suggested resetting the phone back to factory settings and then restoring a backup.  I was reluctant to do this so I was saving it as my last option, but I did perform a backup on the phone in iTunes.  I also read somewhere to enable "Use Cellular Data" in "iTunes & App Store" settings.  I switched it on and tried loading a new CD onto the device, but didn't notice any changes in iTunes indicating it was transferring the songs(the songs were visible in iTunes on the phone afterwards, but still greyed out).  I was finally ready to perform the reset when I happened to check the music app and noticed all my music was now visible.  Big sigh of relief!  Now, I can add new CD's and see the songs sync in iTunes.
I'm not sure which option above solved the problem and quite frankly, it doesn't make sense to me that either would solve this problem.  But if I had to guess, it was the backup.  The greyed out music seemed to imply a DRM issue, which I couldn't figure out how to solve, but the backup appears to have resolved it without restoring it back onto the device.  If anyone else has a better theory, I"d be interested in hearing it.
Other info of use: iCloud backup was disabled so the phone would backup to my windows computer.  I had music in iTunes set to sync everything, but switched it over to manual to choose what albums/songs to transfer as someone suggested.  As expected, it made no difference.

  • Transferring non Itunes purchased music from ipod to computer.

I have followed all the instructions on the Apple website and these forums but have still not managed to do it. I will probably download the freeware listed in the forums. However when I look in My Computer my ipod is shown but when I open it there is no Itunes music folder just contacts etc. Why is this?

    * I see the music in my itunes, but there is no folder! How can that be??*
The files are hidden. Did you read the link I posted above? It contains instructions for both Mac and Windows to unhide the files.\
*Side note: My ipod says "do not disconnect" could that have something to do with it?*
It has nothing to do with it, your iPod is either enabled for disk use, set to manual update or both. Setting an iPod to manual update enables disk use by default. When using an iPod in enabled for disk use the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Problem syncing non itunes purchased songs to itunes from ipad

How can I get music from my ipad NOT purchased in the itunes store to sync to my computer? iTunes won't allow non iTunes purchased mp3s to transfer.

You can only copy iTunes purchased songs back from your iPad (or other iOS device). If the songs are not already on your computer, and you havn't got a backup of your content on, for exampe, external drives or CDs/DVDs that you can copy onot your computer, then you will need to do a search on the internet to see if there are any third-party programs that can copy them back.

  • Unable to listen to iTunes purchased music after swaping shell.

My Dell D600 computer broke down. No big surprise coming from that model. I had the shell swapped and kept the same hard drive, but can no longer listen to the songs I purchased from iTunes. This even includes new downloads since the swap. All of the music I uploaded from CDs works just fine.
I receive the following to error messages:
    1. This computer is not authorized to play "Song Name". Would you like to authorize it? (I enter my password and click "Authorize">)
    iTunes accesses Music Store
    2. Then I receive "We could not complete your Music Store request. An unknown error occurred (-208).
This has happened every time since I have swapped my shell. Each time I have been online (I even downloaded new music one time from iTunes) and have tried from multiple locations - office, wireless, home. I cannot listen to any iTunes purchased music. Any ideas other than going to Best Buy for CDs??? Thanks!

    Spyder 282:
If you are running a version of iTunes older than iTunes 6.0.4, the first thing to do is update to 6.0.4. Choose About iTunes from the Help menu in iTunes. If you are already at 6.0.4, or if updating does not help, the next thing to try is to deauthorize your computer for the iTMS account using the Deauthorize Computer option in the Help menu. Then play of the iTMS songs and re-enter your authorization info.

  • Is there any way to transfer non-itunes store music to your iTunes?

I kind of killed my macbook, and it had to go to mac support and in order to make it happy and shiny again they had to wipe all of its memory.
Now, I've restored the song purchased on itunes to my itunes, but
    1. The iTunes/MacBook doesn't seem to be living harmoniously with my iPod, any way to make them realise they are long-time friends?
    2. Is there anyway to switch my non-iTunes-purchased stuff to my MacBook from my iPod.
    3. Finally if no. 2 can't be done, since I've already transfered the purchased stuff from my iPod onto my itunes library again, should I just choose the "Erase and Sync" option since when I connect them it gives me a ramble then the options " Cancel", "Transfer Purchases" which I've already hit/done, or "Erase and Sync" because I know the last will mean that I will have to put all my CDs back on, but alas, that may be what I have to do, but will that at least make them live harmoniously again with my purchased stuff safe?
Sorry about the length of the question, and thanks to whomever reads it.
    Ashlee

    2. Is there anyway to switch my non-iTunes-purchased stuff to my MacBook from my iPod.
    Try Senuti.
It's a program that transfers music from iPod to iTunes on a Mac.
    As is Music Rescue.
There's also a similar program called Yamipod which has a Mac version.
I've used all of these on a Mac with great success.
If you want to retrieve playlists, iPodRip has the feature enabling you to reconstruct them.

  • How can I delete iTunes purchased music

Music I purchsed from iTunes is synced to my iPad. However, there are a couple of tracks I do not want but can find no way to delete them. I have deleted them from my iMac and Mac Mini but they still apear on the iPad. It's no big deal but I like to have control over devices I own and this is an irritation. How can I permanently delete purchased music from the iPad?

OK so I'm answering my own question. After deleting purchased music from my iMac and Mac Mini, it still appeared on my iPad. However, on opening Music in the iPad, I found that by holding my finger against the track I wanted to delete and swiping to the right, a red DELETE tag appeared at the right-hand end of the track title line. Tapping this tab deleted the title and it has not returned. I repeated this for all of the purchased titles I wanted to remove and it has worked.
I have not found any reference to this facility elsewhere but, believe me, it works.

  • Converting iTunes Purchased Music to MP3

I have been reading the posts about not being able to changed the iTunes purchased music to MP3 format. I understand that the only way to do it is to burn the purchased music to a disc and then once it is burned, import it back into iTunes. I can't get it back into iTunes without the protection. Do you go to iTunes then to import? Help!!

I FINALLY figured it out!!!! Sometimes I am sooo
    slow! Thanks for your help!
Its not your fault. The French are considering making Apple
behave responsibly and allow use of iTunes music on any
    audio player.
The requirement to burn to CD and re-import just so I can
use a non-Apple music player....well, it looked good to legal
and why should Apple care about anything else.
It's not really fair to expect a company with Apple's reputation for
innovated ways of serving generally accepted needs to keep it up
    forever. Or is it?
