Multiple Libraries for Multiple Users on iTunes

Is there a way - using iTunes 7 - to have multiple libraries? Our family shares a computer and I would love to have separate libraries.
Thanks.

Hi there
Hold down the 'alt' key for a couple of seconds when you launch iTunes from the dock.
You should get a prompt to create a new library, or choose another library to launch.
Good luck

  • Managing multiple libraries for multiple family members

I have four family members with multiple iTune libraries, including two that need to be age appropriate for our children. To add to this burden, we now have an iPad as well. How do I best manage these libraries, minimizing duplicate purchases, enabling each to have store accounts for gift card purchases, and sync each iPod simply for those not familiar with the apple software? Can I merge our libraries, create different users with their songs and accounts for purchases and syncing logins? We have two operating systems in the home, mac and pc? Argh, this is cumbersome, my library has over 4000 items, other family members have much smaller libraries, but would like their own individual libraries. Should I merge and make separate playlists for each user? If so, how can I incorporate my own vast library of playlists already created?
    Help me please, any suggestions?
    Rob Mc

There are 3 options. See this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1495
My advice is to use option #1 and have each user with a separate windows userID. They can each keep their own itunes library database file with ratings, play counts, playlists.
Have all the library content in a public folder to avoid filling the PC's hard drive with duplicates.
You can use a 3rd-party utility program like iTunes Folder Watch to update all the libraries when new content gets added.
Method #2 is easiest, but then ratings and play counts will not be separated. Also, they have to remember to log out of the itunes store and log in with their own ID when making purchases. Something to watch for when kids are involved with their own gift cards....this is not a problem with method #1.
Method #3 seems to give a lot of people grief because all users MUST use a shift-start of itunes to choose their own library. Woe has fallen on many who have tried this method.
As for using both Mac & PC, itunes & ipods are designed to only sync with one PC. There is a way around that, but you either have to do a lot of manual backing up and copying, or buy something like TuneRanger.

  • Multiple Libraries for iTunes

I am wondering if there is any way to create multiple libraries for my music? I use my iTunes for both work and personal music and would like to be able to move my work music into a separate library. I've seen this concept in accounting programs, where you create new companys in order to store and track separate information. Any suggestions? I am currently using iTunes 5.0

Try iTunes Library Manager. It's not free, but it does work.

  • How to open multiple sessions for one user?

Sorry for the silly question but I couldn't find it googling or searching through this forum, so I started wondering whether it's possible in SQL Developer to open multiple sessions for one user. I'm fairly new to SQL Developer and databases in general.
When I open SQL Developer and connect to a schema, a worksheet opens named MYSCHEMA. If I disconnect then connect, another worksheet opens, named MYSCHEMA~1. I assumed these were different sessions, but if I enter into one worksheet:
    select col1 from my_table where row_id = 1
    -- shows result is 1
    update my_table set col1 = 0 where row_id = 1
    select col1 from my_table where row_id = 1
-- shows result is 0and then enter into the second worksheet:
    select col1 from my_table where row_id = 1
-- shows result is 0I would have expected the second worksheet to report 1 because the first worksheet did not issue a COMMIT. Thus, I'd guess both worksheets are the same session? Is that right? If so, how do I have two sessions open simultaneously (opened by same user)?
I'm trying to implement the code at the bottom of this post, for which testing requires at least two sessions:

    Thanks Jim,
Ctrl-Shift-N doesn't do anything for me. I'm on a mac -- by experimenting it looks like command-N does what you're looking for. This appears to be the same as left-clicking on the "New" icon in the top left corner of SQL Developer, or selecting from the pull-down menu, File > New.
This opens "Create a New" window that appears to be a wizard. What would I select at this point? Options are: Database Connection, Table, View, Package, ...
I don't see an option for "Worksheet".
    UPDATE:
OK, I found that if I select "SQL File", a worksheet becomes available. Perhaps this is what you intended. However, when I issue the command
select col1 from my_table where row_id = 1;it still returns 0 instead of 1. Hmm, maybe my initial assumption was wrong -- if this is a second (e.g. different) session, should I expect the changes made in the first session in SQL Developer (the UPDATE command) WITHOUT a commit, to be observed in this second session? I thought that changes made in one session were not viewable in a different session until these changes are committed in the first session? If so, how to show this in SQL Developer? I must be missing something basic here.
Or, is SQL Developer issuing some sort of "auto-commit" without my knowledge?

Restore using Time Machine to new hard drive, but last "full" backup was in 2012.  How do I restore the rest of the Time Machine backups, particularily IPHOTO libraries for each user?
I entered Iphoto for my user and only photo up until 2012 were in the library.  I thought the restore would do the incremental Time Machine backups too.....

  • How do I send multiple credentials for a user when he/she connects to iTune

I want to be able to send multiple credentials when a user connects. For example, all students will get a generic student credential and may have one or more more specific credentials for access in certain sections or course pages. I presume I can send multiple credentials but haven't found a how-to. Since the credentials are strings, I presume all I need do is concatenate them to send them all at once. What is the delimiter character so that iTunes can parse it?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Yes, you can send multiple credentials in an iTunes U URL request. The delimiter is the semi-colon.
So, let's say you want to send two credentials ...
    Student@urn:mace:itunesu.com:sites:hogwarts.ac.uk
    Student@urn:mace:itunesu.com:sites:hogwarts.ac.uk:potions3yr
your token string would have the following "credentials" token ...
    credentials=Student@urn:mace:itunesu.com:sites:hogwarts.ac.uk;Student@urn:mace:i tunesu.com:sites:hogwarts.ac.uk:potions3yr

  • ITunes 7 or 7.1 w/ multiple libraries for 2 different iPods

Can iTunes 7 or 7.1 have 2 libraries for two different iPods (1 iPod goes to 1 library and the other one goes to the different library) in one iTunes 7 or 7.1?

It is possible to have multiple libraries with iTunes 7. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Shift key in Windows (or the Option key in Mac) when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:
    Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Using multiple iTunes libraries -Mac

  • Multiple Preferences for Multiple Libraries?

Now that I'm able to create multiple libraries with iTunes 7, I'd like to be able to have a different set of preferences for each library. That is, I'd like to have my local hard drive's library to copy files to the iTunes Music folder when I use it while refraining from copying while I use my external hard drive's library. As I understand it, preferences are user-based, so I can't figure out how to do this.
When I used Libra previous to iTunes 7, it was able to handle this. Any ideas about how to do this using iTunes 7 solely?
    Thanks

wow Addison that link you posted saved my life (and sanity!) it actually stopped the crashing of iTunes thanks so much!!

  • Multiple Libraries for Video running at the same time on one PC

    Hi Everyone -
I want to clarify this is for VIDEO files, not music for my 6 ATV's on the network.
Problem: I have well over 1000 VIDEOS in my iTunes Library, and I am wanting to have multiple libraries availible at the same time; not just whichever the computer has open.
We have several atv's on the network and I would like to take my video organization one step further; instead of scrolling forever in the atv menus for the video you want; I could make several libraries all availible at the same time.
    Such as:
    Kids Library
    Workout Library
    Parents Library
    etc
This in turn would shrink the primary library and have less videos to sort by.  I know how to create the Libraries, I just dont know how to have them all running at the same time.
    Infastructure:
Windows 7 Ultimate with Drobo B800FS (16TB of storage) all connected to Cisco 3660 Gig switch with multiple atv's hardwired back.

iTunes can only open one library at a time. If you have multiple computers, or virtual machines, each could be serving a different library.

  • Multiple libraries for one ipod and match?

Ok, so... I've got about 1500 songs purchased via itunes, and own about 3500 CDs, which I'm in the process of adding to my library.  All but about 50 of the discs were already ripped years ago, and I'm just copying the backup mp3s onto my new external drive after the last one failed.  Anyhow, I just got itunes Match and I'm wondering if I made a mistake in doing so.  Is there a way to have songs from multiple libraries on my ipod?  Due to the sheer volume of music (and other thigns) I own, I'm wondering if I should just make a comedy library, a blues library, a synthpop library, a metal one, a rock & roll one, an oldies one and so on.  If I do that, will I be relegated to having to decide what style of music I want on my ipod at any given time, or is there a way for me to load different items from multiple libraries onto the thing?
I'm halfway tempted to just delete my entire library from itunes and just be SUPER picky about what tracks I add in order to be able to get under the 25K limit.  As is, right now I've got 21411 items in my library, over 20000 of which are in match, but it keeps crashing on step 3 right now.  As is, I already know I need to re-mp3 some of the discs since when I did them originally they were less than 96K (oddly, I'm finding it's mainly on my "oldies" discs like the American Graffiti soundtrack), and that doens't bug me, but the idea of having to go through song by song and add only what I want is one I'm not too fond of and that I'd like to avoid if at all possible.
I'm really digging match, but not so much now that I realized there's a hard limit to the number of songs available.  I don't think Apple is used to folks like me who live & breathe music and attend well over 100 concerts in the average year.
Thanks for anyone who's read all of my rambling, and any of y'all who can provide me a bit of guidance!
    -Ann

This would be making is WAY less difficult. This is a MUCH needed feature in iTunes that they should add. As a DJ I absolutely hate having all my music in one library. Certain genres, like Electronic music, deserve to be in their own library. I would like to be able to hit the Music icon on my iPod and have it ask me what library of music I would like to access.
This would allow siblings to share one iPod and not have to combine all of their music together. Or you could make a library of music with no explicicit music on it (and passcode it) so that you don't have to worry about kids having access to your explicit material if you let them use your iPod.
You can already make multiple libraries in iTunes, why not just add the obvious next step and be able to add multiple libraries onto one iPod.

  • How can I combine multiple listings for same genre on iTunes 11?

When I downloaded the newest iTunes version 11, I suddenly had multiple listings for the same genre. I literally have 63 genre listings for "Trance"; 4 listings for "Hip-Hop/Rap" and a few others. There was obviously not a problem with the old iTunes version as they were all grouped together. I do get music from several sources but I have no idea how to combine all my "Trance" listings into one. It takes longer to scroll through the "Trance" genres than the rest of my genres combined. I tried to individually change one the "Hip-Hop/Rap" listings by using the "Get Info" tab and typing in the genre until iTunes can autofill the rest but the problem remains. Any ideas how to combine all these into one genre without compromising the genre name? Thanks

I believe the closest you can come is look at your songs in Songs.  There you can sort by albums.
The album view does not contain a list view any longer.

  • Multiple prompts for all users

We have 2-factor authentication. Certs for every user is mapped so they only select the cert and enter the PIN. They do not enter username/password unless they use the certificate that is not mapped.
Lately...within the last month, many users are complaining about being prompted multiple times for their username/password. They keep entering the correct username/password and it keeps prompting. Eventually, it shows a blank page.
Users belong to multiple contractors but we gave them AD accounts on the same domain.
    Any ideas?

It may be due to either of below:
    1. Check if some changes happened to there mapping
    2. Check the version of Browser used by effected user
    3. Any new item\webpart recernt added to the page they face this issue with.
    4. ULS and event log from sharepoint and active directory server

  • Multiple laptops for one user.

    Hi,
I install webtogo on laptop lt-1 for user 'test' and after a couple of days I install webtogo on laptop lt-2 for the same user 'test' and I keep working on lt-2. After a couple of days I return to lt-1 for user 'test'.
Problem is: the data isn't the same on both laptops. Any solution to solve the problem?
I think it's not allowed to install webtogo on different pc's for only one user.

you could probably achieve this by placing unique key in mobileadmin.dm$user_device(user_id) so as registring a second device for a user will cause UK violation and operation failure.. but I didn't test this myself so you should test it thoroughly - it can have some undesired consequences.

  • Multiple libraries or multiple itunes accounts???

Just purchased ipod touch for daughter. I have one itunes account. Should I either get another itunes account for her separately OR should I just have one account and create a new library for her music and videos? Which would be the easist to manage. Daughter is 21 but disabled so it requires me to manage both.
    THANK YOU.

I recommend you get her her own iTunes account for purchasing from the iTunes store.
You/she can add gift cards instead of using your credit card so you won't have to worry about how much she purchases.
should I just have one account and create a new library for her music and videos?
Create her own iTunes account and create her own library by creating a new computer login for her.
She will have her own iTunes library in her own computer account.

  • Multiple Dashboard for single user

I want to create different dashboards for different users. Do I have to login as these different users & create the dashboards or is there a better way?
    Thanks,
    Dinesh.

No. You can create the dashboards as Administrator or any login that has privileges to create dashboards. It is when you deploy the dashboards that you can either restrict viewability or just default it to a certain dashboard. You can use session variables to direct users and My Account to default to a certain dashboard.
