Multiple libraries on one Mac recognised by iPods?
I would like to have all my music in one location but have multiple libraries for different members of my family. When I plug in an iPod, say my daughter's, I want it to know whose iPod it is, and open the relevant library (my daughter's) so that I can sync that iPod with that library. Possible? Thanks.
To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. The new library will be empty until you add content to it. To get back to your original library you need to close iTunes and open it again while holding down the shift key, this time choose to open an existing library and navigate to its location. Multiple libraries can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Mac
Another option is to create a separate Mac User account for each person on your computer. Different user accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

Having Multiple Libraries on One Mac
Hi. I just pre-purchased the new 16gb iPod Touch (I will still be using my 60gb iPod as well) and had a question concerning libraries.
Is it possible to create multiple libraries so that I can have all my music (almost 40gb) be in one library and then load a seperate library with preselected music on it for the new iPod. I know I can just create a playlist (which I use for my Shuffle) but to make a playlist that has 16 gb of music almost defeats the purpose of it being a playlist to begin with.
I just dont want to have to sit and scroll through my library and add songs to the new iPod on a song by song basis, to have everything for the Touch in its own library would be much easier.

Two libraries on one mac (mini) visible using remote app, how?
Hi all,
I would like to have multiple libraries on one mac so i can access them via my remote app on my ipad
Reason;
I have 700+ albums in different musical areas. I can only see the album art when i am in the library of the remote app. The different playlists dont show artwork but just the songs.
If i can make different libraries i have a better overview of all the art work
Does anyone know how to make both libraries on the same mac, visible on my remote app?

FritsI don't think the issue is one of Apache (not even sure it's one of named virtual hosts since you want both sites to serve the same content). The issue is one of having multiple .local names point to the same machine.
I don't know this can be done without your own DNS server running in the network. -
Multiple libraries for one ipod and match?
Ok, so... I've got about 1500 songs purchased via itunes, and own about 3500 CDs, which I'm in the process of adding to my library. All but about 50 of the discs were already ripped years ago, and I'm just copying the backup mp3s onto my new external drive after the last one failed. Anyhow, I just got itunes Match and I'm wondering if I made a mistake in doing so. Is there a way to have songs from multiple libraries on my ipod? Due to the sheer volume of music (and other thigns) I own, I'm wondering if I should just make a comedy library, a blues library, a synthpop library, a metal one, a rock & roll one, an oldies one and so on. If I do that, will I be relegated to having to decide what style of music I want on my ipod at any given time, or is there a way for me to load different items from multiple libraries onto the thing?
I'm halfway tempted to just delete my entire library from itunes and just be SUPER picky about what tracks I add in order to be able to get under the 25K limit. As is, right now I've got 21411 items in my library, over 20000 of which are in match, but it keeps crashing on step 3 right now. As is, I already know I need to re-mp3 some of the discs since when I did them originally they were less than 96K (oddly, I'm finding it's mainly on my "oldies" discs like the American Graffiti soundtrack), and that doens't bug me, but the idea of having to go through song by song and add only what I want is one I'm not too fond of and that I'd like to avoid if at all possible.
I'm really digging match, but not so much now that I realized there's a hard limit to the number of songs available. I don't think Apple is used to folks like me who live & breathe music and attend well over 100 concerts in the average year.

-AnnThis would be making is WAY less difficult. This is a MUCH needed feature in iTunes that they should add. As a DJ I absolutely hate having all my music in one library. Certain genres, like Electronic music, deserve to be in their own library. I would like to be able to hit the Music icon on my iPod and have it ask me what library of music I would like to access.
This would allow siblings to share one iPod and not have to combine all of their music together. Or you could make a library of music with no explicicit music on it (and passcode it) so that you don't have to worry about kids having access to your explicit material if you let them use your iPod.
You can already make multiple libraries in iTunes, why not just add the obvious next step and be able to add multiple libraries onto one iPod. -
Can multiple libraries be sync to the same iPod?
As I start upload songs to iTunes library, quite quickly it has increased to 4 GB with the library big enough to use the side scroll bar. I guess we can have multiple libraries in iTunes in the same computer. But can multiple libraries be sync to the same iPod? i.e. Can I see more than one library in the ipod?
I find it uneasy to see too many entries in the library all the time. There is no way to make it invisible, hence this question.If you want to connect and use an iPod with more than one library (or more than one computer) you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different. You can directly access the content of the iPod and play it through iTunes and you can drag and drop whatever you want to the iPod from either library:

Multiple Libraries on one computer

As I mentioned in my original post:

I want to be able to store music in iTunes and play that music in iTunes without having them downloaded to my iPod. It would be nice to have a Library in iTunes that can be separate from the iPod stuff.
I think I found a work around (#12). Until I get a better solution I am going to create a master folder to which I will move all my music that I do not want syncing to my iPod. Then, I will do a manual sync and exclude that folder.

Can you add multiple libraries that have been previously downloaded to one album?
In Revel, libraries are where images are truly stored. Albums are just simple containers for organization and sharing. For any given library, an image can belong to a number of albums. And if you delete an album, images remain safe in the main library.
It sounds like you want to consolidate images from multiple libraries into one location. Currently, Revel does not allow one to copy or move images between libraries. The only thing I can recommend is to import your images again into the library you where you want to consolidate. If the images exist only in other Revel libraries, you will need to export them first, and then re-import them to the desired library.

I have multiple devices that I want to sync from my one Mac. I decided to go for the multiple library options under my one user account. I have created multiple libraries but the problem I'm finding is that if I buy a new book/app they get placed in finder for that device. Is that a way of keeping this clean and keeping all apps, books etc under the one library in Finder and all the different devices just reading from there?

I have, in the main, different apps, books and music on each device. However some apps I have on iPhone and iPad. My iPhone library is my main library where I want to store all media - however if I buy an app on my iPad it will store this under the iPad folder rather than the iPhone folder, even though in preferences my media file points at the iPhone media folder
It's just messy, as if in the example above I want to put the app on my iPhone I than would want to put the new app with all my other apps and then sync it to the iPhone. -
How do I collapse multiple libraries into one library?
I have a couple of dozen libraries, created over multiple versions of FCP, and now I have equivalent copies of events and resources strewn across multiple library files across three drives. Plus, FCP has been automatically creating new instances of projects and storing them in files named with dates; I can't find the latest version to open it!
How do I collapse all these libraries into one? Hopefully not by moving event by event from one to another! It takes a couple of minutes per event and resource; the program keeps wanting to "reload" resources after each move.It looks like you updated your libraries multiple times. Yes, the only way to consolidate them is to drag the events from each library into a master library.

I'm looking for a solution to use one Mac to run multiple kiosk screens. On each screen the user will be accessing a local web page to view content. I'd like to run multiple screens per computer rather than having to have one machine per screen since I need to have 5 or more screens.
As for the machine running the kiosk, I was thinking probably a mac mini or ibook, something I can get used and cheap. The information to be accessed is not memory intensive and one machine should have plenty of computing power to handle four or five users.
Any Ideas? Or is there a non-Mac solution that is more easily accomplished?

Biggest question of all - are you expecting each user to be able to interact with their screen (e.g. input a web form), independent of what the other screens are doing?
If the last one is true then stop right there - you can't have multiple independent inputs running at the same time - input from user 1 is just as likely to interact with the page on user 2's screen.
There's no simple way around this - the OS just isn't designed for it.
That's secondary to getting 5 screens running off a Mac Mini, which has no expansion card for additional displays. You'd be limited to USB-based screens, but I wouldn't want to run 4 of them off one machine. -
Deciding on how to handle an issue..... a 4s and a 3gs on one mac with one itunes....or two itunes and separate users on one mac..... I have heard there are some diffiuculties with having more than one iphone on an account with the same icloud.
If you are the sole user of the devices - and the account is yours, there should be no iCloud issues. This is exactly the kind of thing that iCloud is designed to do - keep all of your devices in sync.
I use an iPod Touch and an iPad with one iTunes library and use my iCloud account with no issues at all. Do you have specific issues that you are concerned about? -

Can I backup multiple users on one mac with Personal Backup X5
Thinking of getting Personal Backup X5 by Intego. I have 4 users on my one mac and need to be able to back up each user's home directory. Does anyone have experience with this app? Can I do this? What do you think if PB X5?
ThanksThanks for the advise. I have used CCC before, but right now, I just want a backup solution to backup the home directories of each user on my single mac. I may someday need to clone my main disk, but right now I don't need that. I am using "Backup" now, but I have to log in as each user and run it from their account. I guess I would need to do this with whatever app I use, since some files are protected. Can SuperDuper just do this sort of thing? Can I copy from my account in some "root" mode, and copy the home directories of all my users (wife and kids)?
I downloaded a trial version of Personal Backup X5, but I can't figure out how much the actual app costs, and I don't want to spend too much, considering I can do most of what I need with "Backup", which I already have. I would consider $30 for SuperDuper if it could do the basic incremental backups, etc. I was ****** when I tried to install Personal Backup and it told me it required a re-boot. With 4 accounts logged in, it isn't a simple request.
