Multiple Libraries, One on Internal HD, One on External HD

I have a macbook with an 80GB hard drive. I also have it hooked up to two firewire external drives when I have it at home. I have a small iTunes library on the internal drive that I use to listen to music. I also have a huge library on one of the external drives that I used to use on another computer. I would like to be able to use both libraries on my iTunes so that I can access the large one when I'm home and still have the small one when I am away with my laptop. I know about the hold down option to pick different libraries when you startup but is there anyway to just have both libraries picked up so that you can browse both at the same time. I would like to do this so that when I am home I can manage better what I have on both drives. I saw some different shareware but I wasn't sure what was the best for this type of situation.
Thanks.
joe

On your computer go to itunes preferences>advanced, and turn off copy music to library. Now mount the firewire drive, and drag and drop the entire folder of music into itunes. Once its finished you can go back in and turn back on copy music to library. This should add the songs on the external drive into itunes, but any new music will be added into the music folder on the computer. Note however if you make any changes to the external drives music when not connected to itunes it will not know the difference. Also if you ever use the consolidate music option in itunes, it will attempt to copy all of the music from the external drive to the internal.

  • Can I have different Libraries on my internal HD and an External HD?

I'm out of internal HD space and need to move most of my Photos/Events to a different iPhoto Library on an external HD. From the discussions (and the Fat Cat site) it appears that Fat Cat's iPhoto Library Manager may allow me to do this - is this correct? Any other suggestions?

Yes - or you can simply copy the iPhoto library to the external drive and switch between libraries by depressing the option key, launching iPhoto and using the select library option - once the library is safely on the external and tested you can delete photos form the one on the internal drive leaving only the ones you want - not that doing it in smaller batches of 100 or so gives the best results

  • Multiple Libraries - One Preferences File

    Hi all,
I would like to set up Multiple Libraries in iTunes to Sync one with ATV and stream the other to ATV when it is active.
The problem I have is that iTunes has ONE preferences file independent to the library and in particular the "Shared Name" - if you change it in one library it changes it in all libraries to be the same.
Is there a way to have multiple iTunes Libraries each with it's own preferences file to assist with this?
    Cheers,
    Dean

  • Multiple Libraries on one computer

I want to store more music in iTunes than my iPod has room for (original iPod). I want to use one library for music that I don't want on my iPod and the other for the music I want to sync. I also want to be able to move music back and forth between the them.
How do I store music in multiple libraries on one computer without making separate computer user accounts or using the playlist work around?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, apple-rules

Yes, I am referring to the auto syncing of playlists. Not all of my music is assigned to playlists and I don't want to create them - too many songs.
As I mentioned in my original post:
I want to store more music in iTunes than my iPod has room for (original iPod). I want to use one library for music that I don't want on my iPod and the other for the music I want to sync. I also want to be able to move music back and forth between the them.
I want to be able to store music in iTunes and play that music in iTunes without having them downloaded to my iPod. It would be nice to have a Library in iTunes that can be separate from the iPod stuff.
I think I found a work around (#12). Until I get a better solution I am going to create a master folder to which I will move all my music that I do not want syncing to my iPod. Then, I will do a manual sync and exclude that folder.
    Thanks everyone.

  • Multiple Libraries for Video running at the same time on one PC

    Hi Everyone -
I want to clarify this is for VIDEO files, not music for my 6 ATV's on the network.
Problem: I have well over 1000 VIDEOS in my iTunes Library, and I am wanting to have multiple libraries availible at the same time; not just whichever the computer has open.
We have several atv's on the network and I would like to take my video organization one step further; instead of scrolling forever in the atv menus for the video you want; I could make several libraries all availible at the same time.
    Such as:
    Kids Library
    Workout Library
    Parents Library
    etc
This in turn would shrink the primary library and have less videos to sort by.  I know how to create the Libraries, I just dont know how to have them all running at the same time.
    Infastructure:
Windows 7 Ultimate with Drobo B800FS (16TB of storage) all connected to Cisco 3660 Gig switch with multiple atv's hardwired back.

iTunes can only open one library at a time. If you have multiple computers, or virtual machines, each could be serving a different library.

  • Multiple libraries for one ipod and match?

Ok, so... I've got about 1500 songs purchased via itunes, and own about 3500 CDs, which I'm in the process of adding to my library.  All but about 50 of the discs were already ripped years ago, and I'm just copying the backup mp3s onto my new external drive after the last one failed.  Anyhow, I just got itunes Match and I'm wondering if I made a mistake in doing so.  Is there a way to have songs from multiple libraries on my ipod?  Due to the sheer volume of music (and other thigns) I own, I'm wondering if I should just make a comedy library, a blues library, a synthpop library, a metal one, a rock & roll one, an oldies one and so on.  If I do that, will I be relegated to having to decide what style of music I want on my ipod at any given time, or is there a way for me to load different items from multiple libraries onto the thing?
I'm halfway tempted to just delete my entire library from itunes and just be SUPER picky about what tracks I add in order to be able to get under the 25K limit.  As is, right now I've got 21411 items in my library, over 20000 of which are in match, but it keeps crashing on step 3 right now.  As is, I already know I need to re-mp3 some of the discs since when I did them originally they were less than 96K (oddly, I'm finding it's mainly on my "oldies" discs like the American Graffiti soundtrack), and that doens't bug me, but the idea of having to go through song by song and add only what I want is one I'm not too fond of and that I'd like to avoid if at all possible.
I'm really digging match, but not so much now that I realized there's a hard limit to the number of songs available.  I don't think Apple is used to folks like me who live & breathe music and attend well over 100 concerts in the average year.
Thanks for anyone who's read all of my rambling, and any of y'all who can provide me a bit of guidance!
    -Ann

This would be making is WAY less difficult. This is a MUCH needed feature in iTunes that they should add. As a DJ I absolutely hate having all my music in one library. Certain genres, like Electronic music, deserve to be in their own library. I would like to be able to hit the Music icon on my iPod and have it ask me what library of music I would like to access.
This would allow siblings to share one iPod and not have to combine all of their music together. Or you could make a library of music with no explicicit music on it (and passcode it) so that you don't have to worry about kids having access to your explicit material if you let them use your iPod.
You can already make multiple libraries in iTunes, why not just add the obvious next step and be able to add multiple libraries onto one iPod.

  • Multiple Libraries of folios in one app?

Can you have multiple Libraries of folios in one app? For example, in one app you have two separate monthly magazines. Each of these magazines has its own library of monthly issues; each issue would be its own folio. Or would I need to make two separate apps, one for each magazine?

You'd need to make two separate apps.

  • Multiple libraries on one Mac recognised by iPods?

I would like to have all my music in one location but have multiple libraries for different members of my family. When I plug in an iPod, say my daughter's, I want it to know whose iPod it is, and open the relevant library (my daughter's) so that I can sync that iPod with that library. Possible? Thanks.

To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. The new library will be empty until you add content to it. To get back to your original library you need to close iTunes and open it again while holding down the shift key, this time choose to open an existing library and navigate to its location. Multiple libraries can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Mac
Another option is to create a separate Mac User account for each person on your computer. Different user accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

  • Add multiple libraries to one album

Can you add multiple libraries that have been previously downloaded to one album?

In Revel, libraries are where images are truly stored.  Albums are just simple containers for organization and sharing.  For any given library, an image can belong to a number of albums.  And if you delete an album, images remain safe in the main library.
It sounds like you want to consolidate images from multiple libraries into one location.  Currently, Revel does not allow one to copy or move images between libraries.  The only thing I can recommend is to import your images again into the library you where you want to consolidate.  If the images exist only in other Revel libraries, you will need to export them first, and then re-import them to the desired library.
If I didn't quite speak to your needs, please let me know so I can try to offer better help.

  • Having Multiple Libraries on One Mac

Hi. I just pre-purchased the new 16gb iPod Touch (I will still be using my 60gb iPod as well) and had a question concerning libraries.
Is it possible to create multiple libraries so that I can have all my music (almost 40gb) be in one library and then load a seperate library with preselected music on it for the new iPod. I know I can just create a playlist (which I use for my Shuffle) but to make a playlist that has 16 gb of music almost defeats the purpose of it being a playlist to begin with.
I just dont want to have to sit and scroll through my library and add songs to the new iPod on a song by song basis, to have everything for the Touch in its own library would be much easier.
Thanks for any help/advice you may have.

It's possible to have multiple libraries in a single account with iTunes 7. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key when launching iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. Multiple libraries can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library but other than that they work fine: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Mac

  • HT204406 I have multiple libraries - one on my work computer and one on my home computer. Can I connect both libraries (with different content) to itchTunes Ma without losing one or the other? I'd like to add what I have at work to what I have at home, et

I subscribed iTunes Match in the hopes that I could combine my two libraries remotely. Essentially I have two awesome collections of music, one at work and one at home. I wanted to be able to access my work tunes from my library at home, and vice versa if possible as well as from my iphone. Now that I've activated match on my work comp though, is it going to wipe out my library at home once I connect to match from my personal mac? I'm wondering if this will happen because when I associated my iphone with match, it told me it was going to replace my iphone music library with the match (work) library. I haven't associated my home computer library with it yet, because I'm worried it will wipe out the music I have there that isn't already in the cloud. How do I access what I've added to Match from my work computer, so that I can add it to my home computer, without losing what's already there?

when you open the app store scroll down to the bottom it will display the apple id currently in use, change it to your normal apple id email

  • Syncing multiple devices, user accounts, iTunes accounts one computer

    I have a question that I can't find a clear answer.
I previous had one iPod touch and one iPad that I synched with my iTunes library. No problem. But now the wife has finally purchased a verizon iPhone and I want to be able to use my vast app collection for her phone.
Scenario is we each have separate user accounts (so we can maintain our own calendars and contacts, ect.). We each have our own ITunes accounts and our own iTunes libraries by default. She will not be purchasing much on her account though.
How do I, without creating a can of worms, create one library to sync to so I can put apps and music on her phone without erasing any of her separate information. I have read a lot on the subject and there does not seem to be a clear answer anywhere. Yes, I have read ht1495 but that does not seem to be exactly on point
Basically, I have 3 devices, 2 user accounts and 2 iTunes accounts but one computer only. I want to be able to have all iTunes stuff available on both user accounts and be able to have both people be able to read and write to the same library. I am sure there are plenty of people running into this issue with more and more people getting iPhones with verizon. It seems that it is easier to do with multiple computers than one computer.
So, I am looking for help or advice on the easiest way to accomplish this task.
    IMac   Mac OS X (10.6.6)

The easiest way to accomplish want you want is to transfer what content you want to the separate iTunes library under each user account. To transfer content from your library to your wife's library so that she can use it on her phone, do this:
    1. Launch iTunes under your wife's login.
    2. Sign her out of iTunes & then you sign in.
    3. iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Disable auto-sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected.
    4. Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC!
    5. Store>Authorize this Computer(only have to do this once).
    6. File Transfer Purchases(all of the purchased content on your phone will be transferred to your wife's library).
    7. When complete, eject your phone, sign out of iTunes, sign your wife back in.
You can now sync whatever content you want to your wife's phone. Just remember, all updates to apps obtained using your account must be done while signed in using your account: sign wife out, you sign in, update apps, you sign out, sign wife in, sync her phone.
This way you can share content(permitted under the EUSLA) and still maintain your separate logins. Do the same under your login if you want to share content from your wife's library.
Just load whatever content you want to share on each others phones, transfer the content, then delete it from the respective phone if you don't want to keep it there.

  • How to print multiple pages of same form with one print command

    Hi,
I have created a cheque print form in smartform. There is provision to print multiple cheques. I give multiple cheque numbers from my selection screen and for each cheque the smart form is called in loop.  Currently I get preview of 1st cheque then I print 1st cheque then click on back, cancel or exit button and then I get preview of second cheque ans so on...
Now I want to print all the cheques with one print command.
    Please advice.
    Regards,

Instead of looping at the smartform multiple times, pass an internal table with the data content to the smartform and use loop/ Table youroption  in ur smartform in the main window.in this way u can achieve printing multiple cheques at once and avoid previewing the document several times.
