Multiple libraries with independent settings?

I don't see that this can be done, but is it possible to have two libraries where on manages the content and the other does not?  I want mymusic to be automatically added to the library via the iTunes process of doing so (not interested in doing it manually as a work-around), and my video library to simply reference media on an external volume.
From what I can tell, the content management option is a blanket option per-user.
Thanks,
-Travis

  • Managing multiple libraries with different file types (AAC v. Lossless)

I have set up two libraries, one for my AAC music and the other for my lossless music. The files themselves are located in two separate places on my hard drive. When I switch libraries (option-clicking iTunes), and go to Preferences/Advanced tab, the directory for the files and the import method doesn't change -- I have to change it manually. This is annoying.
Does anyone know of a way to automate this change, so that if I open a new library, the default location of the files and the import format changes automatically? I tried ituneslibrarymanager from Dougscripts, but for some reason can't get this program to install on my machine.

No, it's the same Windows XP user account, but I have two separate music libraries - the music files in library are in a lossless format, while those in the other are in AAC. For convenience, I wish to keep the two libraries separate.
In iTunes 7 it is possible to have separate libraries - start iTunes and hold down the SHIFT key (Windows) while the program starts. A dialogue box then appears where the required library can be selected. However, as far as I can tell, it's not possible to have a different set of preferences for each library.
Say the preferences are set up for my lossless library, which is located on a separate network drive. If I then make the AAC library active and open iTunes, iTunes reindexes the library according to the settings for the lossless library and I end up with the AAC library full of lossless files. I've tried unchecking various things in the preferences box, but I've had no luck fixing the problem. Thanks for your suggestion - I have already reported the problem.
The whole thing is a rather inelegant way of managing multiple libraries in iTunes. Surely the Apple developers can come up with a way of doing it from within iTunes??

  • Multiple libraries with different desktop shortcuts

I know that iTunes can boot from different libraries by holding Shift while starting. But is it possible to create a shortcut on desktop to open iTunes using a defined library (so I dont have to hold Shift while starting iTunes)?
Like for instance I would like two shortcuts: one that starts iTunes loading my iPhones library and a shortcut that starts iTunes using my iPads library.

As Polydorus says you can't just create a shortcut to the different .itl files as iTunes will always open the last library it used regardless. The next best thing is probably a bit of software such as Libra that lets you switch libraries. I used it briefly about 4 years ago when I was first evaluating iTunes but the web pages shows it has been keeping up to date so it should do what you need.
I don't see a real need for it myself since it is easy to manage multiple devices with one library by creating playlists for the content that you want on each device. Using one library also means that content purchased on one device becomes easily available for the others. That said, I might try it out again as I do occasionally need to switch to test libraries when I'm trying to examine some of iTunes' quirks.

  • I got married, and my wife and I have multiple libraries with several iTunes id's how do we consolidate all of our music

how do we consolidate multiple libraries? My wife had 2 or 3 different apple id's she changed emails and forgot passwords. please help

    Apparently, you cannot do that:
Set up your Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support
If you have made purchases using more than one ID, call Apple Support and state your case. I have heard that they may be able to do something to help you.
I do not know why Apple makes it so easy to create Apple IDs; they suggest creating them left and right, but make it very difficult to undo once a person realizes how bad it is to use multiple Apple IDs for the same purpose, for example, iTunes Store, or App Store purchases.

  • Using Multiple Libraries With iTunes 7.5

I recently updated to 7.5, using multiple libraries does not work anymore. The dialog to choose library if holding the option key while opening itunes will not appear anymore. anyone having a similar problem? Multiple libraries are a necessity for me.

I am also having this problem. I tried to create a separate library, but when I followed the directions (hitting shift when I open iTunes) I did not get the option to do so. My regular account just opens. Have you resolved your problem yet?

  • Multiple Libraries with itunes 11

I didn't find this in the search, so here goes:  I have multiple itunes libraries; one for me, one for my wife, and one for my daughter.  After updating itunes, I opened my daughter library to find things like Metallica and Iron Maiden mixed in with her lulabies.  Not cool.  All my libraries re now mixed together.  I how do keep them separate - I have spent countless hours setting all this up, and now I have to do it again?
    Thanks!

the best practice is for every user that uses the same computer to have separate account.

  • I use multiple libraries with itunes - should I create a new library for a 2nd iphone

I use multiple iTunes libraries to manage multiple devices from the same PC.  I'm purchasing an iPhone 6 and currently have a library for my iPhone 4.  Would I create a new library for this new device?  Also, to restore all content to my new phone, Will this restore be done from the existing iPhone 4 library?  Is this process documented?

I can't address specific issues regarding iPhones, but in general you can manage multiple iDevices from a single iTunes library.  The test approach is to maintain one or more playlists for each iDevice you use, and configure the latter to sync only from the relevant playlists:
This article: Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device - Apple Support documents Apple's guidance regarding transferring content from one iOS device to another.

  • Exporting multiple files with passthrough settings at once

I have a gaggle of videos in mp4 format (some with m4v extensions) that I want to export in Quicktime Pro to change the headers so that my PS3 can play them (some currently come up as corrupted data on the PS3 because it doesn't like some of the information in them.. doing a passthrough with Quicktime solves the problem).
My question is, is there a way to do multiple files at once instead of doing one, loading the next video, exporting it, loading the next, etc.? Most programs that convert/export video files have some sort of que or something. I'm using the most recent version of Quicktime Pro and I'm on a Vista machine.

I have a similar problem. I need to convert a lot of Flip MinoHD files so I can edit them in Adobe Premiere. I have found a setting in Quicktime Pro that will do the export, but only for one files at a time. If Quicktime Pro doesn't have a way to do batch processing of exporting it should develop one.

  • Help, I need to measure from multiple UUT with independent timers.

Hello, I want to set up 20 independent test all controlled from one VI.  I want to have the information feed back to the main VI in real time.  I also want to have each test on its own timer with separate start and stop.
I want to use a HP 34970 to control relays and take voltage and current measurement through out a charge and discharge cycle.  One 34970 can support 20 sets of these measurement.  I want to take a measurement from each set every minute or so over the hour period of the test.  I need to pass a Start, and Stop Boolean, and two strings or numbers from the subvi's to the main for each of the 20 sets.
I have looked at passing information in a cluster but I need to know if the only way is to create a refnum of each element in the cluster, bundle them into a cluster and pass it into the subvi, or if there is an easier way.
I think I need to use semaphores but am not clear if notifiers would be more efficient.
I think a while loop with a timer for both charge and discharge will work best as it can run continuously and after the time is reached it will exit the loop and go to the next step without monopolizing the CPU.
Please give me any ideas and help me find the best way to make this work.
    Ben

  • Using Multiple Libraries with Apple TV

I've been running out of space on my main iMac with iTunes content - call it my Media Server - so I decided to create a new TV & Movie Library on an external hard drive to store movies and TV Shows (that went well). Unfortunately AppleTV does not sync to both the Media Server Library on the iMac and the TV & Movie Library at the same time. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi,
That's because the ATV only allows one iTunes library to sync with it, you can however stream up to 5 computers

  • ¿Print multiple images with specific settings all at once?

    Hi,
I have never been able to fully get the Automator to work...
    Here's my scenario.
I use Fedex Online to make labels and use their adhesive labels, but I usually need to print about 17 at a time... So instead of printing 1 by 1... I save the PNG files... Then I setup a template in pages, with 17 pages and replace each image 1 by 1, then print....
Which is a lot of work, then I have to double check to make sure I didn't duplicate 1 form, etc...
SO what can I do to A. Get them to print all at once and B. Make sure they are setup to print to the FEDEX labels margins (Right/Left: .5", top .375", bottom 5.5")?
I already made a custom page setting in page setup...
hopefully someone can offer some insight
    Thanks

Another thing I tried was to save images into a pdf, but I don't know where the PDF is saved to...
What is the order that I am supposed to do things in?
    What I have now is:
    1. Get specified Finder items (I have the items selected)
    2. Compress Images into PDF Document
Now what? When I press play, it seems to work, but I don't know where the PDF is saved...

  • Syncing multiple libraries with an iPod/iPhone

    This is my situation...
I used to have my entire iTunes library on an iMac. I got a MacBook and would like to access the music from it. I have an Airport Extreme and Home Sharing on, so at home I can access the iMac library (but not the artwork).
Let's say I create an iTunes library on the iMac with everything but the music (movies, iPhone apps, ringtones, iPhone pictures) and another library on the MacBook with just the music.
Q1: How do I sync my iPhone which has apps, ringtones, iPhone pictures, and music w/o duplicating the music on the iMac?
Q2: If the answer to Q1 is "you can't", how do I get the artwork into the iMac library?
    Thank you.

VPN is a virtual Private Network. Sorta like having your own little network for your computers. I found this tutorial on how to set one up using Hamachi
    http://www.macminicolo.net/videos/ServerVideo8.mov
This would allow you to have a network where all your macs can be connected and sync with each other. You can also connect an iPod Touch to this network but I don't know how you would go about syncing it.

  • Using Multiple Libraries with Purchased Music

I have 2 libraries on my system. One is mine and the other is my mother's. I purchased music from iTunes while I was in my mother's library and now cannot get that music to my library. I have been able to confirm the music was downloaded via my account in iTunes but I don't see that purchased music anywhere in my library. Please help....How can I get that music in to my library???
    HP Laptop   Windows Vista

Look around on your PC. It probably just copied it to a different location. I have moved many songs and pictures by just copying them into my library and then when in the correct library do a add file to my library and it should work.

  • Multiple libraries with Apple TV?

I have an iTunes library on my iMac and an iTunes library on an external drive, the idea was to keep my music on my iMac and keep my movies on my external drive, therefore saving some space on my iMac hard drive. This seems to be working okay, but the only way I can view the accounts through the apple tv is switch between library's on my iMac. I would like to be able to view both accounts without switching on them on the iMac. Is this possible? Also both library's are authorised to me under the same username and password.

You can easily have different content in different places but accessible from a single iTunes library.
In iTunes Preferences Adavanced tab untick the 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library':
Not sure if you have 2 separate user accounts on the computer or are using option (alt) when opening itunes to choose between them.
Anyhow I think I'd probably go with the account with the files on the iMac, then navigate to the external itunes folder and drag and drop the media files from there to the running iTunes - they will only be added by reference not copied and all will be available on AppleTV.
