Multiple listings

Sorry if this one has already been posted but there are just so many iPhoto problems to post about! Apart from the double and triple letters, apart from the inability to recognise so many places and recommending locations in San Francisco instead, apart from ignoring copy-and-paste locations, apart from assigning a different location than the one that I typed in ... well, apart from those ... has anyone else had this problem :
With some locations (eg I assign "Merida, Mexico" to ONE photo) when I go to "Places" in the "Library" and then go to the list of Places (Countries-Cities-Places) some places are listed MULTIPLE times. Now I did that in caps because I mean maybe 30 or 40 times (my example "Merida" is listed so many times that it runs down the list from the top of the screen to the bottom - so I am just guessing the number of listings ... and remember, i just assigned it to 1 photo). It does not happen with all places (so far just 2 from my Assign a Place photos) and the only way I can fix it is to not assign a place ("Merida, Mexico" was coming up a "Merida Municipality" so I tried "Merida Zocolo" and it did the same thing)

Hey, Tobias - I thought I must have been the only one with this particular glitch with iPhoto '11! It is still happening even after the 9.1.1 update. So far it is just for a couple of my places. I have sent in a "bug" report but haven't found a solution (other than to not label the pictures in one instance and to label them with a nearby location in another). I have tried labelling just one photo from the group or labelling the whole group and the listing comes up 20 or 30 or 40 times ... haven't bothered counting - as it goes from the top to the bottom of my screen!

  • How can I combine multiple listings for same genre on iTunes 11?

When I downloaded the newest iTunes version 11, I suddenly had multiple listings for the same genre. I literally have 63 genre listings for "Trance"; 4 listings for "Hip-Hop/Rap" and a few others. There was obviously not a problem with the old iTunes version as they were all grouped together. I do get music from several sources but I have no idea how to combine all my "Trance" listings into one. It takes longer to scroll through the "Trance" genres than the rest of my genres combined. I tried to individually change one the "Hip-Hop/Rap" listings by using the "Get Info" tab and typing in the genre until iTunes can autofill the rest but the problem remains. Any ideas how to combine all these into one genre without compromising the genre name? Thanks

I believe the closest you can come is look at your songs in Songs.  There you can sort by albums.
The album view does not contain a list view any longer.

  • A few days ago my TV show and movie displays went whacky-the shows are no longer in alpha order, there are multiple listings of the same show, the pictures are random-including album covers.  I downloaded latest version.  Any ideas??

    ME TOO.
I think mine are all still in alphabetical order, but :
    * movies I deleted from my library and told "hide this purchase in the cloud" are showing up again. If I try to play them, I get the "cannot find the file in its proper location, would you like to locate it" error message.
    * for movies that have "iTunes Extras," the extras show up as a separate item, with another copy of the movie artwork. Most of these I believe I had DELETED the "iTunes Extras" anyway.
    * Items are showing up multiple times.
    * A few MUSIC ALBUMS are listed in my Movies section.
    * Some movies (I believe ones that I deleted off my HD but are still in the cloud) are showing random album covers instead of their proper artwork.
    * Just rented a movie, and it didn't show up anywhere in my library. It downloaded properly and completely, was in a suitably labeled folder in my iTunes/Media/Movies section, but didn't show up in any section of the library (or via a library search). Had to manually find it and tell it to open the file using iTunes.
Running the latest version, even checked for updates. No other changes made lately since the last round of apple software updates. This was wonky before the latest small update to iTunes - now it's even wonkier. And it is very, VERY effing annoying.

  • Multiple listings of same artist

After syncing my Ipod, I find that I have the same artist listed multiple times. For example, when I scroll by artist I'll have 2 that say "Snow Patrol." I have checked that they are both spelled the same, with no differences. Sometimes it will even split up an album with half of the tracks going to the first listing of the artist and half to the second listing.
I have gone through the 5 R's several times with no change.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can merge the multiple listings of each artist into one?

I had the very same problem and found this posting looking for an answer to that. I had checked as well to see that the name of the artist was the same on every song and even erased and rewrote them and the problem was still there. i did what First magun seggested in his posting though and copied the artist's name from one song and just pasted it on the others and the problem was fixed. I don't know why because the names were written the same and everything but for som strange reason that did fix the problem so, thanks!

  • Multiple listings for one shared user

Occassionally, a single user in my office will show up under the Shared Music heading in the iTunes source list multiple times! One coworker's shared library currently shows up 6 times, one after the other!
Only the last listing actually connects to her library, the preceeding 5 listings all return the error: "The shared music library is not accessible for an unknown reason. (-3259). Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689."
I know this isn't the problem though.
Other users on our network have had similar problems but the 6 listings is the worst to date. We are all on OSX 10.3.9 using iTunes 6.0.4 (3) however, this problem has been happening since iTunes 5. Anyone have any solutions on how to get back down to a single listing?

  • Address book - multiple listings of same entry

I feel like there's a really simple explaination for this and will probably feel silly when I get the answer -  BUT I just bought a MacBook Pro and am running Leopard (10.6.7).   I now have muptiple listings of the same entry.   Some of them repeat like 6-7 times.    What can I do to make that go away?
    Thanks in advance.

    Found it!
Open "Settings" on the iPhone>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks>Accounts>your MobileMe account and turn off Contacts, when prompted delete the data, and wait two minutes, then turn Contacts back on. When asked to merge the data, make that choice, and wait patiently. You should no longer have duplicates. If you are able, I recommend using a Wi-Fi connection to make the change.

  • Multiple listings for Shared Music

I have 2 users on an iMac both sharing their music library.
Both users appear several times in each others "Shared Music" list. It seems that every time the computer is put to sleep and then woken up again the user is added to the "Shared Music" again, so I end up with around 10 listings for the same user.
Only solution so far is quitting iTunes.
Any suggestions what might cause this? (iTunes 6.0.5. on 10.4.7)

  • Multiple listings of artists are displayed on my iPod

Help! I just downloaded the newest version of software onto my iPod and now I'm having problems with artists being listed multiple times when I look under "Artists" on my iPod. When I go into iTunes, the artist is only listed with their songs, and the songs are not duplicated. I've had this problem before, but I was able to fix it by using "Sort Artist" under the "Get info" option. However, it has not helped this time. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

The most common cause is minor differences in casing or trailing spaces. It can also happen if different tracks by the same artist have different values for sort artist. Lastly, if you've used the sort artist field to group tracks with guest artists to the main album then you may get the effect I've mentioned in this post....

  • Itunes shows multiple listings for the same files (songs), help ???

dunno why, but Itunes is showing mulitple listing for my file (songs), is there a way to clean this up instead of going through the list one by one to get rid of the extra listing...?? thank you in advance...

It looks like you have duplicate entries in the library (two entries pointing to the same song file), but you could also have duplicate files.
Add the 'Date Added' column to the library (View Options, Command-J) and sort on 'Date Added'.
If many songs show the same recent 'Date Added' and you didn't actually add them that day, those ones obviously are the duplicates.
Compare a few of those entries with their duplicate ones.
Do they point to the same file? If so, delete the last added ones, but choose 'Keep Files'.
If they point to different files, delete the last added ones and choose 'Move to Trash'
If the above does not help, you might find a useful script at www.dougscripts.com/itunes
Search for "duplicate" to find the appropriate scripts.
You will still have to remove the entries manually though.
    Hope this helps.

  • Multiple listings for the same movies??

I just purchased Apple TV and have two movies purchased through I Tunes. When I synced with Apple TV it now lists one movie 5 times and the other movies only once. If I stream I can see the two movies listed only once. I have attempted to un-sync the movies and then re-sync and it continues to do the same thing.
Anyone have a solution or having the same issue?
    I MAC     Apple TV

OK, I'm not guaranteeing you this will fix your problem, but allow me to explain why I am suggesting it.
itunes is a database, when you add a movie to itunes it writes the movie to a folder defined by it's preferences, by default this is ~/user/music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Movies and writes info about that movie in two files (iTunes Library and iTunes Music Library.xml)
Think of the iTunes window as a list of aliases which has been compiled using the much smaller info files, only when you click to play a movie does it actually access the movie file itself. This is why itunes can open and display your library almost instantaneously instead of taking hours to actually read the movie files themselves. Other applications like iDVD, iMovie and the tv also use these info files for displaying your itunes content.
Sometimes these files can become corrupt and strange display behaviour is a symptom of this corruption, one way of fixing them is to rebuild these files, but we don't want to do that if it can be avoided. Sometimes you can re-write the bit of these files that has become corrupt, the method I described to you (repopulating) does that.
Unfortunately your issue is with synced content and hence is likely a corrupt database file on the tv. You have already deleted the movie file on the tv and added it back (repopulated it) and this doesn't appear to have fixed your problem. Most of us are only guessing at what goes on inside the tv as there is no easy way of looking at it in same way as you do your macs system. I'm guessing that there are three possible actions that could resolve your problem.
    Repopulating your itunes library.
    Restarting your tv.
    Restoring your tv.
Repopulating will take about 20 seconds and will do no harm if it is unsuccessful. (I'm suspecting the tv might write it's own database file from the itunes database files rather than just from the movie itself)
Restarting your tv will also do no harm but will take a few minutes and you may have to try with and without the movie synced.
Restoring is a last resort and will require you set up your tv again and resync all your content.
If you restart or restore and itunes did need to be repopulated you will still have to repopulate in the end anyway. Hopefully you can see why I suggested what I did and chose to leave the other options until establishing whether repopulating worked or not.

  • Why does 1 album show up as multiple listings on my iTunes screen?

I have 1,000 cd's burned to my iTunes.  I keep them on a single folder on a WD 3.0 Passport HD.    The individual CD "packets'/folders appear on my hard drive as complete albums/CD's, but when I open iTunes on my computer and direct it to read my main folder, 70% of the CD's appear intact as one "group" or "album" or "CD", with the album artwork on the left,  while others appear broken up, with 4-5 separate sectors on the main iTunes screen.  I have re opened iTunes several times, setting it to read one folder.  It takes 1+ hour to read the 200Gb and consistently shows 30% of the CD's broken up with  no artwork.  Does this make any sense? I can send a screen shot of the iTunes screen, so that "you" can see what I am talking about.
How can I get iTunes to show all 1,000 albums/CD's as complete albums/CD's in the iTunes screen on my computer monitor?  Do I need software?  The info feature that directs iTunes to move an individual song to ists' album does not seem to work.
    Thanks!

You don't need to delete them form iTunes on your computer. Notice the dotted circles next to the songs. That indicates that the songs are essentially in limbo. They may not be on your iPad or they might appear in the Music app but will not play.
Sometimes unsyncing those songs will totally remove those ghost traces of the music nd sometimes, you have to restore the iPad to get rid of those traces of the songs.
If you Google "grey dotted circles next to songs in iTunes" you will find a plethora of articles that talk about this.

  • Multiple listings for one artist on iPod

What, if there is one, the easiest way to consolidate all of one artist's music into one group for that artist.I noticed that whenever I scroll through my artist list on my iPod it will show up to six names for one artist when that is the only artist on each album...I've tried listing the name in the sort album and sort artist but it still seems not to change anything.

    Create a playlist
Put all affected tracks into it
Select all tracks on that list
    Press Apple-I on your keyboard
Enter the correct name as "Artist"
    Press 'OK'

  • IPod lists multiple listings of 2 albums after I sync

I bought The Joshua Tree (Remastered) [Deluxe Edition] and Live from Paris from iTunes almost two years ago. This year I decided to purchase The Unforgettable Fire (Remastered) [Deluxe Edition] and upgrade all of my U2 Remasters to iTunes Plus. I ALWAYS buy the Deluxe Editions. Anyway, I upgraded everything but Live from Paris. I noticed that after I synced my iPod, the iPod was listing The Joshua Tree and Live from Paris each three times.
This is how they were listed:
The Joshua Tree (Remastered) [Deluxe Edition]
    2 Songs
    Live from Paris
    1 Song
The Joshua Tree (Remastered) [Deluxe Edition]
    4 Songs
    Live from Paris
    1 Song
The Joshua Tree (Remastered) [Deluxe Edition]
    17 Songs
    Live from Paris
    16 Songs
But when you click on each album title, every song is listed in the correct order. Searching through the iTunes folder, no song is duplicated, and no song is missing. iTunes says I have 447 U2 songs, yet my iPod says I have 430.
I upgraded Live from Paris to iTunes Plus to see if this would correct the problem; it didn't.
I have a 160gb iPod Classic from 2007, I am running Windows 7 (although I am confident this is not a Windows issue), I am running the latest version of iTunes (v9.1.1.12) and this problem has occured a couple of previous versions of iTunes ago.
Something is up with my iPod. My question is: has anyone else encountered this problem with the U2 albums I've mentioned or with any album by any other group?

UPDATE: The problem lies in the duplication of tracks and placed in the wrong spots. On "The Joshua Tree", I hear the live version of "Trip Through Your Wires" from "Live from Paris" instead of the studio version from "The Joshua Tree" you would normally expect to hear. When I click on "Exit", I hear the live version from "Live from Paris" instead of the studio version from "The Joshua Tree". Those two songs on "The Joshua Tree" have the same file sizes and same running times as their counterparts from "Live from Paris", and you are hearing the live versions instead of the studio versions. So when I upgraded "The Joshua Tree" to iTunes Plus format, iTunes slipped me the live versions of "Trip Through Your Wires" and "Exit" taken from "Live from Paris". This is NOT what I want.
And my iPod STILL lists the albums like this:
    The Joshua Tree
    2 Songs
    Live from Paris
    1 Song
    The Joshua Tree
    4 Songs
    Live from Paris
    1 Song
    The Joshua Tree
    17 Songs
    Live from Paris
    16 Songs
The Deluxe Edition of "The Joshua Tree" that I bought has 25 tracks, and my iPod doesn't list that.
"Live from Paris" has 18 tracks -- same problem.
How can I get Apple to correct everything???

  • Multiple listings of each App under Open With?

In Mountain Lion in the finder when I right click on a file and select Open With I see several listing of each suggested App. How can I get rid of the extras?

Your launch services database is corrupted. The only fix is to run an obscure OS X framework command from the terminal app. The following information has been run on my ML 10.8.1 system and fixed this issue.
Type Command + Shift + U. Now launch the Terminal app.
Change your directory location. The following long string needs to be typed on one command line. For legibility in this post, I have introduced a UNIX command line continuation character (\).
    $ pushd /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A \
    /Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support
Now you want to run the utility to refresh the launch services database. This will be brief.
$ lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
Now go back to your home directory:
    $ popd
    exit the Terminal.
Now check your "Open with" menus.

  • Multiple Listings in iTunes

Help.  Quite a lot of stuff I've downloaded (and purchased) has each song showing up about 4-5 times in iTunes.  Anyone know how to clean this up please?  It's driving me nuts.  When I click on a song it either tells me it can't find it or I have to listen to a son 4-5 times.  Augh
    Thanks

Thanks, Ed. But, that still leaves the problem of having three, or sometimes even four, copies of a single song (each number Song A 1, Song A, 2, Song A 3, etc.) They are in the AAX a/k/a/ m4a format. I tried deleting all but one of each title, but when I went back in to view my itunes library, there were exclamation points next to all the songs I had deleted extra copies of. When I tried to open them, I was told they didn't exist. Very frustrating!!!
