Multiple .mac users, One calendar

Can multiple .mac logins read AND write to one shared iCal?

This sort of access is not supported by current releases of Mac OS X and iCal.
When Mac OS X 10.5 ships in the fairly near term, it will include a version of iCal intended to work with the iCal Server and Teams, both of which will be components of Mac OS X Server 10.5.
Calendaring Server
"The Darwin Calendar Server allows users to collaboratively share calendars across an organization. It provides a shared location to store their schedules and sync them between machines. It also allows users to send each other invitations to events. Implemented using the CalDAV protocol, it supports multiple calendaring clients, including Leopard’s iCal, Mozilla’s Sunbird, OSAF’s Chandler, and Microsoft Outlook."
More information about the open-source Darwin Calendar Server is available here:
http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/calendarserver
That application will give you a virtual roadmap to the development direction Apple is taking with iCal under future releases of the Mac OS.

  • Time machine multiple macs sharing one HD via Wifi

I need help with time machine app.
I would like to use one external hd for multiple macs to backup with time machine.
I read about different method, the one that I think is better for me is to sharing the HD on a network.
I have one Imac and two macbook.
What I did is to connect the HD to the Imac and than I shared the HD volume with sharing files.
I create two accounts for the macbooks and then I connected them.
    So far so good.
But I din't use this network configuartion for the first backup, what I did instead was to connects the different computers one by one with thunderbolt.
Now I had to change the destination dirve from the old HD (connected via thunderbolt) and the "new" shared HD - actually is the same drive!
I thought that the macbook time machine app just recognize the last backup and just makes a new one from that point.
But it seems doing a new backup. (Last backup: none)
It creates a new file Macbook of Alessandro.sparsebundle
    Any tips?
    thanks in advance

  • How do you publish multiple groups to one calendar ?

I have half a dozen groups to sort my contacts by in Address Book, ie Customers, Prospects, Suppliers, Family etc. Now I want to publish my iCal calendar so my call answering service can see where I am in the week.
How do I publish to one calendar so they can see all my appointments as it would seem you have to select one group to publish to one calendar and then publish a second calendar for another group and so on. This will get tedious as they would then have to refer to 3 or 4 different calendars, one for Customers, one for Prospects etc to see where I am all week.
    Any help much appreciated.

you can create calendar groups and then publish them on the web - go to file > publish new group and then drag the calendars you want into that group.

  • Using a VMware Fusion XP environment with multiple Mac users

    Hi,
I have installed an XP environment using VMware Fusion. I am only able to start this XP environment when logged in as the user that created it. How can I grant access to this environment to other MAC users on my machine?
    Any input is much appreciated.
    Kind regards, Hans.

Thanks all, thanks for your input. I have been able to solve it now.
As suggested I moved the VMWARE file to the shared folder. Then I assigned read/write access rights to the specific users. This is something I had not tried before. Somehow just moving to the shared folder did not change access rights on file level.
    Thanks all,
    Hans.

  • AppleStore to use multiple macs on one Apple ID purchase?

I have 3 macs and an MacAir.
Do I get charged for every installation of purchased software, when I use my Apple ID on all macs?
    OR
Do I get charged only Once for the purchase and can install soft on every mac from one Apple ID?
How many macs are allowed per Apple ID?
What if I travel and then I will need some purchased software on macAir.
    Thank you.

You pay for the software one time and you can install it on as many Macs as you own or control. This means that you could also install the apps for your use on a Mac issued to you by an employer or an educational institution. You can acquire software from the MAS also while traveling with your MacBook Air.

  • Multiple Editors For One Calendar??? Please Help!

Is there any way at all to allow more than one person to edit a single calendar? I'd like to be able to keep a calendar for my boss that both he and I can update from our respective machines. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks!

    Greetings,
In order for a calendar to be seen / edited by multiple computers it must be hosted on a server or you must install sharing software.
If you have a Gmail account (or sign up for one as they are free) you can add your calendar to Google. :http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iCal/4.0/en/28066.html
You can then add the same Gmail account to your boss' iCal and he can see and edit the same calendar.
    Hope that helps.

Get a separate Apple ID for one of the phones. Or turn OFF iCloud contacts synching on the one you do not want contacts to synch.

  • How can multiple Mac users have the same iTunes?

I have a MacBook, and my wife and I have separate accounts on it. It's easier that way for separate Facebook accounts, email, etc. However, it's complicated when it comes to iTunes and applications. We both want to use the same iTunes library. We have iTunes Match, but I'd rather not re-download my entire library when it's already on my computer just so we both have access to it. I tried following the directions at this article, but it didn't work. So, how can both my wife and I, from different accounts on the same Mac (and using the same Apple ID) access the same iTunes library and have any changes reflected on both accounts?

Obviously, if you just need to copy those iTunes folders, you don't need the ability to write; just the ability to read, which you already have.
Besides, the /Users/Shared folder is indeed an excellent location for a shared iTunes library; I hadn't yet considered that. Ignore all the above instructions. First, make sure your two iTunes libraries are in sync. Use an external hard drive (or mess with permissions) to do what copying you need to. Then go into iTunes and iTunes>Preferences...>Advanced and change the iTunes Media folder location to /Users/Shared. All of your iTunes content should be copied (or moved) into /Users/Shared.
After that, do the same thing in the other account, and both your iTunes libraries will now be pointed to the same location.

  • Multiple apple users one account woes

    Can someone help me?
I have one apple ID that I use for Itunes, AppleTV, Icloud and my Iphone. My problem is now I have 3 Iphones under one roof now; can I still use the same apple ID for all Iphones?
If I use the same ID how will Icloud know which Iphone is which? I got 3 users on my computer and over 100Gb on my Itunes library how will that work?
I would like each phone to be separate (contacts and photograph) but still able to use the Itunes library.
    Thanks

  • Time Machine questions: Handling backups for multiple Macs to one FW drive

I am reviewing the Time Machine thread and seeing a lot of helpful information, but I would like to ask something I haven't quite found yet.
We have 2 Leopard Macs, a MacBook Pro and an intel iMac... with plans to upgrade another MBP from Tiger to Leopard at some point.
In planning for Time Machine, we set up a 1 TB drive, attached it via FW 800 to the iMac, partitioned it GUID for Intel, and made 3 partitions, one for each planned Mac we want to back up to it.
I started Time Machine on the iMac first and the first backup of about 100 gb took maybe 4 hours.
Then we tried to start the Time Machine backup for the MBP over the network (wireless). It was understandably much slower and quit with some error last evening, so I took advantage of the pause to move the notebook to a wired ethernet connection. It got even slower so this morning I directly connected it FW 800, erased what had been backed up, and started over. So far, so good. 6GB out of 100 in 10 minutes or so. The idea being, if we can get the first backup completed faster over wired connection, maybe doing the incrementals over wireless network will be okay. Sounds like some folks are doing that successfully. I am hoping that works out.
Questions: Was it necessary to partition my 1TB drive into a partition for each Mac's Time Machine backup? I did make each partition bigger than the hard drive it is designated for.
To get the MBP to mount the external FW drive on its desktop, I had to disconnect the drive from the iMac. Is there any way I can connect the FW drive to both the MBP and the iMac (the drive has two FW 800 out connections, so it is physically possible)? I'm thinking (from reading posts of others with notebooks) that one strategy is to connect your notebook to your Time Machine drive at night and let it back up, but it'd be great if I could leave the iMac connected while doing so. Is there a way the volumes on the drive can mount on both desktops?
When I try wireless again, I'm seeing mixed posts regarding whether the MBP will need a password to log in to the remote volume each time, or only the first time when the Time Machine backup is established... if I could get clarification on that, it would be helpful.
    Thanks!
    thanks

What do you see on your notebook when you click on your TimeMachine icon in the Dock?
My notebook is mounting the backup drive on an hourly basis, running a backup, and looking like it is doing something... but when I then look at TimeMachine, I can't see the backups. (On my iMac with the drive directly attached, I see a progression of windows showing all the hourly backups the last 24 hours, etc.) I just called Apple to ask why this is so, and they told me they couldn't help me because wireless Time Machine backups aren't supported.
I know backups to a hard drive attached to an Airport Express Base Station are not supported. But when they say "You can designate just about any HFS+ formatted FireWire or USB drive connected to a Mac as a Time Machine backup drive. +Time Machine can also back up to another Mac running Leopard with Personal File Sharing, Leopard Server, or Xsan storage devices+"... well, how can you DO that?

  • Sync multiple Iphones to one calendar

    Hello,
    I use ical to schedule employee's on there work day. Now that they have Iphones! {3gs}
    I was wondering the best way to have ical from my 27"imac auto update the calendar's on their iphones, as in schedule change or what not.. I have tried to publish the work calendar this doesn't seem to auto update on the iphones {or am I missing something here}
    Thanks in advance
    Chad

I have a similar question and don't want to start a new thread for this. I have an iPod touch and I plan buy an iPhone, too. I have purchased quite a few apps from the app store in the past and I'm wondering if it is possible to sync the apps to more than one mobile device at the same time? Possbile or is there a limitation on how many devices an app can be synced too (because you actually purchase just 1 license)?

  • Two Mac users, one set of bookmarks?

Is it possible to have a set of Safari bookmarks sync'd between two users?
What I mean is can I have two users both using the same set of bookmarks? so when i switch between users, any bookmarks from user 1 also come u in user2 bookmarks on Safari?
I now export/ import is possible but not what I am after.
    Neil

Yep, that has done what I want, great, thanks
having it web based with a username etc to log into an external is not ideal...and it is also another app to have running on the machine in the background, but certainly a lot better than trying to sync them manually
    Cheers
