Multiple message doanloads from POP after 10.4.4 update

I have an iMac that has been connecting to an open source (Squirrel Mail) server just fine. I uses POP3 and have 'leave messages on server checked'.
After the 10.4.4 update, I now get multiple copies of the same message every time I check email. However, it is also removing mail from the server. So it becomes exponential with the emails each time I check. Since I need to access this account while on the road, I need it to leave the mail on the server.
This happened minutes after rebooting after updating to 10.4.4 no changes have been made to the mail server in months. My Powerbook at home does not have this problem and it was not updated.
Anyone else experience this or similar?

Same problem, but after update to 10.4.5 ...
Any help appreciated. Shall I delete com.apple.mail.plist?

  • Multiple message threads from same person

I have multiple message threads from the same person in messages on my iPhone and iPad. One comes from their phone number and one from their email. Here are all the details, I would love to be able to combine them into one thread.
This other person and myself each have a new MacBook Pro, iPad Air 2, I have an iPhone 6 and they have an iPhone 5S. They are all updated with the most recent system software.
On my MacBook Pro, the conversations that are split on my iPhone and iPad are not split. On the MacBook Pro, all of the texts from both conversations are appearing in one. In my contacts which are syncing with iCloud I have both the phone number and email address of this other person.
I have messages set up on all of my devices to send and receive from my phone number and my email, start new conversations is from my phone number. This other person has it set up the exact same way on all of their devices.
So why when I text this person from one conversation thread and they respond it comes through to the other conversation thread?
Why can't I seem to join these two conversations when everything is set up the way it should be and they ARE joined on my MacBook Pro but not my iPhone and iPad?

She kept the same number on her new phone, but now there are 2 conversation threads. A new one started with messages sent from the new phone, the old phone should be out of service now. Why didn''t  messages sent by the new phone resume in the same conversation? I assume because it's a different IMEI.  But now whenever I use her  phone number to create a new message, it goes in the old IMEI*'s conversation thread and is therefore not delivered. It's in green so it thinks it's an SMS also not a iMessage device.
If I want to send a message correctly  to the new phone, I have to make sure I  go into the correct newer thread and enter it there,
For your second answer, the person is receiving the message but the thread now says "email address", not the person's name in the contact list. The sender is sending to the person's phone number, not her email address.

  • How can I get rid of this message that keeps popping up: Widevine Media Optimizer Update Available? Don't know what it is but don't want it.

How can I get rid of this message that keeps popping up:
Widevine Media Optimizer Update Available? Don’t know what it is but don’t want it.

Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
You may have to log out or reboot in order to complete an uninstallation.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.

  • Websites were deleted from configuration after Maverick OSX Server Update

Websites were deleted from configuration after Maverick OSX Server Update.  My subversion access was also overwritten and no longer works.

if that was a bug report, then Apple might or might not see it here.  There's a Provide Server Feedback in the menus of Server.app, if you'd like to let the Server.app folks know about the upgrade problems I've encountered.
If you're looking for help resetting the web sites (I'm not clear if you're reporting a bug or looking for help with this), then check Server.app for where the files should be (the default location is under /Library/Server/Web/Data directory) and see where your current sites are stored in the file system, establish the Site via Server.app (usually with a directory under the  /Library/Server/Web/Data path) and move the contents over to the new location.
As for the Outlook comment in your footer, Microsoft Outlook also generally needs to have the FQDN requirements removed in the SMTP HELO processing.  Outlook doesn't send that, and the default Postfix configuration will reject those connections as spam.  Here's a discussion of how to do this.  (I don't see a path to the HELO processing via sudo serveradmin settings mail:postfix commands.)

  • Customizing the email message sent from BPF after step completion

Is it possible to customize the email message sent by BPF after a step completion.I would like to customize the email sent by the SAP BPC once a BPF step has been completed. Is it possible to add some dynamic parameters related to the BPF as part of the email message, for example : Cost Centre, Account, Finance or any dimension related to the BPF
Currently it sends out a message as given below
[Approve Data] step of [Test BPF 1] has been completed by dom\bpfuser
    Where
[Test BPF 1]         => Name of the BPF
[Approve Data]  => A Step in the BPF
                    dom\bpfuser    => Domain\ User name
Note :In the APPSET Parameter  BPFSTEP_COMPLETE_MSG  we tried to add a custom message but it seems to add to display along with the existing message and treats the variables as plain text.

I used the Note 2 for over 6 months before it started happening. About the same time, my husband's iPhone started sending text to email messages at attachments to I blamed it on his phone. I went into his settings and couldn't find any reason and I checked a multitude of websites and saw MANY people having the same issue with no resolution. I also tried deleting all text history and contact info from both of our phones but it continued to happen until I reset my phone to factory defaults.
2 weeks ago I purchased the Note 3 and text messages from my daughter started coming as [email protected] Again, I tried purging all contact information and text message history from both phones with no success. I waited until my daughter upgraded to a Galaxy S4 Mini. I reset my phone to factory at the same time I was setting her phone up and that has fixed the problem again.
My main concern now is that this bug will again randomly rear it's ugly head and I'll again have to reset my phone to factory, losing all my settings and taking days to customize it the way I want it again.
Thank you for ANY help you can give.

  • TS3899 Saved messages disappear from mailboxes after 'update'.

Saved messages often disappear from mailboxes after an automatic 'update'. Why does that occur? If it's normal, how long are messages retained in a mailbox? Thanks

    Hi Milli,
I think the problem is that Mail tries to download them in order & if it runs into one it can't it just stops, happens when a bad/malformed email is in the chain too.
I think this may have cleared your problem though...
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.

  • Weird behaviour from AirPort after 10.5.8 update on MacBooks

    Hi,
I see I'm not alone with the erratic AirPort behavior I've experienced after I updated my MacBook 13" and MacBook Pro 15" to OS 10.5.8. I have several drives and printers connected to my AirPort Extreme including a drive I use for Time Machine backups. Printing works OK, but ability to connect to the drives is sporadic and Time Machine grinds away until an error message reports the backup failed because the drive could not be mounted. Tried the MacFixIt suggestions of resetting PRAM and SMC without luck. Then tried Deleting the AirPort service and installing new one. I can't recommend this as I could not get AirPort service to connect again. Currently doing a Time Machine recovery on MacBook Pro from before the 10.5.8 update. Hey, this reminds me of when I used have Windows machines. Hope Apple issues a fix soon, until then I will leave 10.5.7 installed.

Hmmm.. unfortunately this is becoming a common problem in the 10.5.8 update. I'm having the same problem too.
One thing I did realize is that after upgrading to 10.5.8 (regular update) my MacBook 15" 2008 started becoming really really hot. I have iStats Menu installed on my top menu bar and I started paying more attention to my CPU and Airport temperature. At some point I did notice my CPU temperature went up to a soaring 80 deg C especially after waking up from sleep.
Long story short, I found that a possible cause of the freezing is that the latest updates from Apple automatically slowed down the CPU fan during sleep, this increases the CPU temperature which in turns causes the Macs to freeze when you try to wake it up from sleep.
I went around and downloaded smcFanControl which allows you to regulate the min fan speed manually. I've set mine to 4000rpm and so far for the first time in weeks have not had any freezes (fingers cross). I hope this helps and until Apple fix this (which I doubt it since 10.6 is out) this is the best solution the rest of us have.
    Good Luck!
P/s: I love Macs but seriously, Apple have to buckle up. This Mac 10.5.8 freezing problem is not an isolated case and has been reported almost throughout the Apple discussion board. I expect a better update from Apple next time.

  • MB won't run from battery after firmware 1.1 update

I know this post is similar to many others on this forum, but I have scoured the other entries and can't find one with my exact problem (or a solution). Sorry if this is a repeat.
My MB has worked fine since I bought it in July. After I installed the MacBook SMC Firmware Update v1.1, however, it randomly decided one day not to run off of the battery anymore. If I plug in the AC adapter, it will boot, run fine, and charge the battery (the menu indicates a 100% charge), but as soon as I unplug the AC adapter the entire system shuts off.
The problem is that I am living in China through July. After working at Apple for nearly 4 years, I was wise enough to purchase AppleCare ... but I can't exactly just hop in the car and take the machine to an Apple Store. Is there a solution for me? Because I'm traveling throughout China, my machine is essentially useless if it has to be plugged in. I'm going to be very upset if an Apple-recommended firmware update rendered my machine unusable.
All applications are up-to-date (OS 10.4.8, Build 8L2127, 2ghz Duo with 1gb RAM).
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have a the same problem, at the Apple genious bar a different battery did not work, so they sent my computer in to the subcontractors in Memphis. They kept it less than 10 hours and sent it back with a new battery. The new battery worked for about one month. The funny thing is I am not getting an x on my battery icon anymore. Coconut battery says it is a good battery and is fully charged. I calibrated the battery the first thing when I got the unit back. The system profiler says the battery is present and charged, if the battery should go down just from sitting still, the power adapter will recharge the battery. But, The computer will not run on the battery. If the power adapter is unplugged, which happens about 50 times a day because of the magnetic attachment, the machine turns off. I too developed the probem only after downloading the firmware update that apple said I needed. It is clear from these posts that there is a problem between the motherboard and the battery, and maybe a problem with the battery's calibration software. Judging from the varied responses users have gotten from Apple, and the complete silence about the problem on the Apple support site, it is also clear that Apple either doesn't know what the problem is and therefore can't fix it, or Apple is trying to turn a blind eye to the problem hoping it will go away. These posts have been viewed over 100,000 times, this is not a small problem!

  • Cannot disable "New Message" window from popping up

Each time I click the Messages icon in my dock, immediately the "New Message" window pops up. However, I may not necessarily want to compose a new message; most of the time, I just want to view my buddy list to see who's online. It becomes rather annoying to have to close the "New Message" window every single time. Does anyone know how to disable this? Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
It cannot be Disabled as such.
Click and Hold the DOCK icon and then choose "Show All Windows"
This then displays all the windows like when you Quit.
You can select the Messages window or Buddy list
The Message Window does not set up New Message this way.
You will notice in the DOCK menu that "New Message" is the default action.

  • Messages deleting from Blackberry after being read in outlook

I am new to the Blackberry after using an iPhone, and I'm still figuring it out.  This may have been answered already...I just can't find it.  I have Outlook 2003 at home, and have a Blackberry Tour 9630 with Verizon.  After I read an email in Outlook, it deletes it from my Blackberry (the messages have not been deleted in Outlook).  If I understand this correctly, if I delete a message from Outlook...it will always delete it from my Blackberry.  What setting do I need to change either in Outlook or the Blackberry to keep the emails that I read (but do not delete) in Outlook on my Blackberry.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The change is made in OUTLOOK.
    1) Go to the account you are using, (TOOLS/ACCOUNT SETTINGS) and  double-click the account in which you want to make the change.
    2)  Click "MORE SETTINGS."
    3) Click the "ADVANCED" tab.
    4) Place a check mark in the box adjacent to "Leave a copy of messages on the server."
Then you can choose to delete (or not) from your Blackberry.
    Hope this helps,
    ED

  • Messages service keeps crashing after 2.2.2 update

Ever since updating my Server.app to version 2.2.2, I have been unable to get my Messages service running again. The log files suggest that the jabber service is rebooting every few minutes, and I am unable to authenticate when I try signing in from iChat/Messages. I'm hoping someone here has seen this and may have a solution for this issue.
Note that I host four domains (the fifth is the server's FQDN), and all are set in the serveradmin tool using:
    sudo serveradmin settings jabber:hostsCommaDelimitedString = "FQDN,domain1,domain2,domain3,domain4"
This setup was working earlier today and broke immediately following the 2.2.2 update.
Here's what the Messages Service log files look like for the first 30 seconds when I start the service (and then shut it down):

I believe that I'm having similar issues -- I can't even get jabber to start after the v2.2.2 upgrade. Would you please post what your jabberd condifuration directory looks like? Here's what I see:
    cd /Library/Server/Messages/Config/jabberd ; ls -l *.xml
    -rw-------  1 _jabber  wheel  25293 Sep 19 22:10 c2s.xml
    -rw-------  1 _jabber  wheel   1683 Sep 22  2012 router-filter.xml

    -rw-------  1 _jabber  wheel  32648 Sep 19 22:10 sm.xml
Any ideas how to clear out the jabberd plist/database configuration to start from scratch and get jabberd working again? I've tried
    sudo rm /private/var/run/jabberd/*.pid /Library/Server/Messages/Data/sqlite/jabberd2.db /Library/Preferences/com.apple.messageserver.plist
    But this doesn't help.

  • Messages won't activate after 10.9.3 Update

    Hi,
I updated OSX on my late-2013 Macbook Pro Retina 15" last week. Since then I can not log into Messages.
I get an error message - "Could not sign in to iMessage. An error occurred during activation. Try again.".
I've tried many times. I've checked what I can see in the knowledge bases -
Time/Date is OK, timezone etc. OK.
Serial number is correct on system information. Checks out OK in apple support site to check.
No network issues (and tried in several networks)
Apple account OK and works on my other Macbook Pro, iPhone and iPad
I've tried reinstalling the combo 10.9.3 - no change. Repaired permissions.
It's very frustrating - has worked fine up until this point.
Any ideas? Not the kind of issue I was expecting after an update with current Mac hardware etc.

This could be a complicated problem to solve, as there are many possible causes for it. Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
Before proceeding, test on another network, if possible. That could be a public Wi-Fi hotspot, if your computer is portable, or a cellular network if you have a mobile device that can share its Internet connection. If you find that iMessage works on the other network, the problem is in your network or at your ISP, not in your computer.
    Step 1
Check the status of the service. If the service is down, wait tor it to come back up. There may be a localized outage, even if the status indicator is green.
    Step 2
Sign out of iMessage on all your Apple devices. Log out and log back in. Try again to sign in.
    Step 3
Restart your router and your broadband device, if they're separate. You may have to skip this step if you don't control those devices.
    Step 4
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ About This Mac
Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.
    Step 5
Take the steps suggested in this support article. If you don't understand some of the steps or can't carry them out, ask for guidance.
    Step 6
    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If the box marked SOCKS Proxy is checked, uncheck it. You don’t need to change any other settings in the window. Click OK and then Apply. Test.
The result may be that you can't connect to the Internet at all. Revert the change if that happens, or if iMessage still doesn't work. Remember that you must Apply any changes you make in the preference pane before they take effect.
    Step 7
    Select from the menu bar
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Storage
    and click
Block all sites from storing information on this computer
    Close the preference pane.
    Step 8
Make sure you know the ID and password you use with iMessage. Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to find and delete all items with "iMessage" or "com.apple.idms" in the name. Log out and log back in.
    Step 9
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
If iMessage worked in the guest account, stop here and post your results.
    Step 10
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you start up, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. After testing, restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and test again.
If iMessage worked in safe mode, but still doesn't work when you restart in "normal" mode, stop here and post your results.
    Step 11
    Reset the NVRAM.
    Step 12
    Reinstall OS X.
    Step 13
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or contact Apple Support.

  • EBay messaging not working properly after recent FF 30 update

After the latest security release today for Firefox 30, eBay's messaging page has a problem when entering replies. When you start entering text in the reply field, every keystroke causes a return keystroke as well which creates space between the text your typing and the bottom of the reply window. Every keystroke enlarges the text window by one line. So by the time you are finished with the reply, there is so much space between the reply and the bottom of the window that you have to scroll to get to the bottom. For long replies with a couple hundred keystrokes, the window becomes huge. This same problem happens with any computer that has updated to the most recent Firefox 30. The computers I tried this on worked fine with the previous version then as soon as it was updated, the problem starts. Any ideas?

After the 10.6.3 update, my iMessage messages on my Mac disappear right after I send them even though they're being sent properly and I can read them on my iPhone.
I can still see the incoming messages but once I restart/close iMessage they're all gone.

Mobile number and Apple ID are set to receive messages on iOS/Mac
Signed out from Mac, restarted, signed back in.
