Multiple monitor options

I'm working on a book and want one monitor (to primarily) have the browser (filmstrip) and the other, the book. All I can seem to get in the second monitor is the selected image.
Any help.

  • You cannot shadow a session with multiple monitors enabled in Windows Server 2008 R2

Searching through the forums (and according to KB2484290) it appears that there is no solution to this problem.  We are rolling out thin clients that are using dual monitors exclusively and we were very surprised to find out that we couldn't shadow
sessions with dual monitors (which to us means that we can't shadow ANY sessions).  This now completely changes our approach to managing these devices.
We are running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 with Remote Desktop Services installed.  The thin clients are running Windows Embedded Standard 7 with the latest updates / RDP client. All steps have been followed to ensure that the apropriate settings and
permissions have been set up to allow access into the session.
We tested by unchecking the RDP setting “use all my monitors for the remote session”, with that setting disabled shadowing worked
    Questions:
    1. KB2484290 is from Dec 2010 - It's now April 2012, is there a workaround / hotfix for this issue that will allow us to shadow sessions using the native Microsoft tools?
    2. Are there any recommended alternatives (software)?  Free/Paid - doesn't matter we just need something that will work.  I'm sure there are a few options out there but I am looking for suggestions for what people have used in the past that worked
best for them to help us narrow down the choices.

    Hi,
In my experience, so far, the workaround is Remote Assistance, Remote Assistance supports multiple monitors, and is the presently recommended solution if you need this functionality. Remote Assistance is a Windows Server Feature that must be explicitly installed
on Windows Server 2008 R2; it is already installed with the client versions of the operating system.

As far as I know, there are some third-party tools can be used as the solution, such as Teamviewer, ISL Online, etc.

  • VMware Fusion question - Multiple Monitors

I apologize if this is in the wrong area, but I am desperate for some help. I have also posted this same question in the VMware communities but I have not had any luck with anyone responding yet.
It seems that I am having an issue with my virtual machine (windows XP) viewing in full screen or unity across my multiple monitor setup on my Mac Pro. Every time I go to view in full screen or unity I get a VMware popup warning/error that reads:
The virtual machine "Windows XP Professional" is configured for a smaller display size than the one your Mac is currently using. VMware Fusion needs to shut down your virtual machine to enable support for your Mac's display size in Full Screen. Do you want to shut down this virtual machine now?
I have two options, one to shut down, or one to go into full screen. If I go into full screen, full screen works with the correct resolution and everything looks great except its only in the one monitor (not the multiple monitor). If I shut down and restart the virtual machine and try to go to full screen I get the same error.
The VMware tools have been installed and I did go to the view, use all displays in full screen opiton.
My current setup is a mac pro with 3 monitors using 2 NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Video Cards.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

I found a link to a VMWare Knowledge Base entry about specifying video ram in Fusion 1. Maybe it is still true.

  • How do I operate multiple monitors on my HP Pavilion Slimline Pavilion s3600t?

    Hello HP Forum,
I am looking to operate 2 monitors on my HP Pavilion Slimline Pavilion s3600t that currently has GeForce 7100/NVIDIA nForce 630i.  I am not a computer technician and only semi-tech saavy (less than more).  I was told I needed a video card; however, I don't know what I need nor how to install it. Can anyone tell me what I type of video card I need to purchase (and why) and then point me to a video or instructions on install?
Further, what would it take for a computer to operate 3 monitors?  Would this computer capable of operating 3 monitors? And what would that entail/how does it compare to installing options for 2 monitors?
    Thanks for your help guys!
    Cheers

  • High PPI Support Multiple Monitors: How it comes that Remote Desktop implements the hight PPI support very well and win 8.1 doesnt?

    http://skovalev.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/RemoteDesktop-HighPPI-Perfect.png
Hello all: i am using an High PPI Monitors from Dell XPS15 (3600x1800) and a Normal FullHD above it. The FullHD monitor is an external device and is set up as the primary device. Scaling is set to per Monitor DPI.
Now the Question: how it comes, that my RemoteDesktop on the secondary (internal) screen has almost perfect implementation for this????
BUT i am am talking only about the RemoteDekstopManager, normal one does not works with high ppi in this way... Also ModernUI has no problems with scaling
    http://skovalev.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Firfox-and-Resolution-RemoteDesktop.png
NOTE that the resolution on the remote desktop is set to 1600x900 and there are NO scaling problems even on the 3200x1800 monitor!
On both picutures you find the dell monitor on the bottom and the scaled original windows explorer/firefox on the bottom right. See how blurry it is? I really breaks my eyes :(
I hope Microsoft can finally fix the high PPI Monitors issue, since the solutions seems to be already implemented

No, i mean the Scaling Support.
If you use multiple monitor, in windows 8.1 you can scale per monitor. If you use this option with a High PPI monitor, like ultra HD or 4K, the image on the monitors with other PPI than the main monitors appears fuzzy and blury.
But there are also scaling problems even if you use only single monitor. This article blog describes it pretty good:
    http://www.hanselman.com/blog/LivingAHighDPIDesktopLifestyleCanBePainful.aspx
By the way there are lot article like this describing the scaling problems, not only by users but also by professinals and IT magazines...
BUT here it comes: watch @ my screenshots. If the remote desktops resolution is 1800x900 and the native resolution is 3600x1800, there are no scaling problems! HOW? So like you can see on my screenshots a native application on my monitor appears fuzzy while
the same application runnin of the remote desktop has clear type!
That means for me, that windows HAS the possibility to scale clearly, but somehow this feature is only supported by RDCM...

  • Windows 7 and Multiple Monitor Issues

Alright, I have spent the past 3 days searching these forums as well as on Microsoft's support pages and all of Google to find the answer to my issue and it seems as though I'm the only one who is running into this problem.
I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro with the GeForce 9600M GT Nvidia Graphics card with the latest version of Mac OSX and Bootcamp installed on it. I have Windows 7 installed in bootcamp. I just purchased a Mini DisplayPort to VGA cord with a VGA cord so as to connect my computer to my Sony Bravia HDTV to use as a second monitor. I plug in the cords, plug them into my TV, and put it into the proper input and it works like a charm. Then I go and boot up in bootcamp under Windows 7, plug in the cord, and my screen gets to the "starting windows" logo and then it goes black. I push ever button, I try control alt delete, nothing. I have to hold down the power button to turn off the computer and then turn it back on.
I turn it on, boot up into Windows 7, let it load, then plug in the cord, and the computer display instantly goes black, again, and yet nothing displays on the TV. Again, I try everything to no avail, so I power it off and back on. I go through this at least 10 times to no avail. I finally give up and try again the next day.
Next day, I plug it in, and the monitor stays up, but yet nothing is displayed on the TV. I go to my resolution settings in Windows, and go to the multiple monitors tab, and select every possible option (extend, duplicate, etc) and nothing will display on my TV. I try to change the settings to which it responds with "unable to save display settings" and nothing changes. I attempt to enter the nvidia program and make changes that way. The TV is detected, but when I select it and attempt to apply anything, no changes take effect and I am left with only the laptop display. Keep in mind I uninstalled and reinstalled all of the video drivers and such.
Finally I get fed up so I purchase a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapted and a DVI to HDMI adapter. I try again. Again in OSX it launches immediately, no problems. I go back into Windows, and immediately I'm dealing with the instant black screen.
I'm going crazy over here trying to figure this out. I know it's possible to do this because I've seen people on youtube doing this and again it works on OSX so why the heck won't it work? If anyone has any idea what's going on here please help me out. Thanks.

JonMarx... I'm having the exact same problem. I'm in the exact same situation as you are. I'm going mad, and it's only by divine providence that I've finally located the only other person who knows what I've been going through. I've spent at least 20 hours trying to get this started back up, to no avail.
I had the secondary display working peachy for a while, long enough to configure everything to be exactly how I wanted it. I unplugged the monitor from the computer just to see what would happen, and that's when the problems started. I managed to get it to work one last time for a brief period a few hours later, but the way it just clicked on made it feel too good to be true.
I've had a wierd problem with a phantom display as well. The display will frequently show up as being available in both the nVIDIA panel and the windows settings, but if I apply the settings, they won't go through. I got a few screenshots of it the last time it happened.
I was just about to reinstall windows completely, but it seems that I'll just run into the same problem again if I do... Here's to hoping a solution is found.

That's why you're only getting a mirrored display and don't have the option
to extend your desktop. The Microsoft driver doesn't support anything other than mirroring.
Check Windows Update to see if you're offered an update to your display

  • Amdcccle (Catalyst Control Center) not saving multiple monitor setting

I followed the wiki to the letter, but I cannot get any x window session to save the changes I make in amdcccle.  All I am trying to do is get multiple monitors configured, and it works great with the catalyst control center but it never saves these settings.
    I have done the following:
    gksu amdcccle
    gksudo amdcccle
    also:
    sudo aticonfig -f --initial=dual-head --screen-layout=right
and many other interations of aticonfig.  The -dtop option complains that it doesnt work with RandR enabled.
I got this working a few weeks ago but can't remember what I did.  If amdcccle could actually save the current configuration to file that would solve the issue but it simply will not.

    Hello insco6750,
When you updated the drivers did you install over top of existing software or uninstall beforehand?
First we should try ripping everything ATI off of the system, including software, drivers and CCC. You should be able to uninstall everything through Add/remove programs.
After you remove everything reboot and let windows reinstall it's own drivers and software. You don't need CCC to do dual monitors so we can do testing without it.
Once you let windows install see if your HDMI output no longer works when you switch to the TV.
Post back your results after completing this.

  • RC and Multiple Monitors

    2012 R2
So we are using Remote control but not useful on systems with multiple monitors, is there a way to make it work like "Offer Remote Assistance" does?
    Thanks.

The options that fern pointed out above are on the RC client itself -- they are not client settings. They are under the "View" menu.
I've never had an explicit issue with seeing multiple monitors either; however, if you are, have you tried changing the screen resolution on the target system?
There's really no configuration to be had here, the best we can do is offer possible work-arounds.
If this is a major issue, you should contact Microsoft support or consider purchasing a third-party remote control tool. You can also file a change request on Connect so that it gets into their queue as a possible future change.

  • Touchsmart and Multiple Monitors

Has anyone out there actually connected an HP Touchsmart to multiple monitors? I am aware that USB-to-DVI or USB-to-VGA adapters are required. However, I learned from one adapter manufacturer out there (StarTech) that there are known issues with these adapters and the Touchsmart. Has anyone had success? esp with synchronizing video? What brand/type of adapter did you use? My goal is to get one Touchsmart and 4 extra monitors working together. thanks

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers that are all different. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
    You shouldn't need to disable the "Touch" feature to enable "Extended Display" mode... however if don't disable it, you may have issues getting to the extended display or you may experience unpredictable results. Using a mouse should allow you to reach the alternate screen. Depending on your hardware, there may or may not be an option to disable "Touch (Use your finger as an input)" in the Windows Control Panel. You can, however, disable the touchsceen input device in the Windows Device Manager as shown below;

  • Multiple monitor DPI Issues (Desktop not Metro)

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 pro with Win 8.1, which has an ultra high resolution (3,200X1,800) and I am using it with a Targus docking station.  In order to see things, I have the custom DPI scaling set at 250%.  Here is the problem, when i use the docking
station with an external monitor that has a maximum of 1900X1200, Metro looks nice, but anything on the desktop (office and other desktop only programs), everything is HUGE and unusable.  If I try to set DPI scaling for multiple monitors, I can no longer
use my custom 250% DPI for the Lenovo, instead, I am given a slider that makes the external monitor look nice, but when the laptop is removed, it is so small that I'd need a magnifying glass to see.  If I want to use a docking station, I have to change
the DPI scaling every time I switch between being docked and as a standalone, which requires me to go through all of the steps to switch and then log out and log back in.  Is there a way to have custom DPIs for each monitor?  I think this will only
become a bigger problem as more companies develop higher resolution devices.
    Thanks,
    Dean

Same issue here. I have looked on a lot of forums, and there are a lot of people who just don't understand the issue - offering completely irrelevant advice!
As with a number of others on this thread, I have a Surface Pro 3... fantastic machine, and beautiful display. But connect my external 1080x1920 24" display, and everything is too large on the external... so as with everyone else, I have to set the
Change the size of all items option in display settings, set it to the smallest value, then log out, and log back in. That fixes the external display, but...
Having to make this setting change every time I connect or disconnect to an external monitor is annoying enough... but having to log out, and then log back in to see the change is ridiculous!
But what REALLY annoys me is that I like to use extended display mode - I love to work with two monitors - my lapyop and external display side by side. With the scaling set to lowest, so that the external display looks correct, the Surface Pro 3 screen is
just unusable - its too small, and gives me a headache trying to use it. It makes me feel like an old man complaining that "owwww its too small for my old eyes!".
I realise that this is a Windows issue - but heck, if the Surface Pro 3 is really the tablet to replace my laptop, this flaw in Windows makes the SP3 a NON laptop replacement. Using dual monitor setups with my portable is essential to how I work.
I almost can't believe that in 2014 Windows still does not have proper per monitor PPI settings. Technology has landed a probe on a bloody comet for crying out loud - why can't Windows have proper UI scaling per monitor??!!
What really scares me is that I dont think this is a simple fix for MS, and it may be some time before we see this resolved... but here's hoping Microsoft are already working on s solution.
I'd like to see a Microsoft representative give us an official update on this issue... Hello? Are you out there?

  • How to Open Two Excel Files in Multiple Monitors in Windows 7

How to open two excel files in two excel windows using multiple monitors in Windows 7.
Currently it opens multiple files on top of each other on the same one monitor.
I found this article in a blog it says
"The snap feature that you are looking for will not work unless you open two instances of Excel. This is because Excel Unlike Word is not a True SDI Application. Microsoft is aware of the Issue however there is no resolution to the problem but the workaround"

If you are working almost the entire day in front of your computer at your office with lots of Excel Sheets and Word, then probably you might be working with a
dual monitor or may be even more than that. Studies have shown that having an additional monitor increases the productivity by 20 to 30 percent (Source: NY Times)
But some applications like MS Office Excel, even though you open multiple files, they are all from the same instance of the application. So if you want to compare two
    Excel
files, then you may not be able to have it in two
separate monitors as the files are loaded using the same instance of Excel. If you move one
    Excel
file to the other window, the other Excel files are also moved to the other window.
So how to have two separate Excel files or other application side by side in dual monitors?
    Option A:
In Excel 2003, go to Tools -> Options ->
    General tab.
Make sure the option, ‘Ignore other applications’ is checked. Now all the Excel files will be opened as separate instance and you can move the Excel files individually across the monitors.
In Excel 2007, Click the Office button ->
    Excel Options -> Advanced.
Under General, check ‘Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange’.
    or
As this method forces each Excel file as a separate instance, the memory consumption will be more. If you don’t want too many memory consumption then you can open only two instances (see
Option B) and manage wisely to view in both the monitors.
Note: If you are having issues like Excel opens without displaying a workbook, then you may have to
uncheck this option. (See Microsoft Help for more details on this). You can use option B in this case. I have this option checked and I have not faced any issue yet.
    Option B:
They key here is, the application has to be loaded as separate instances. Lets say you have opened an Excel file in
Monitor 1 and you want to open the next excel file in Monitor 2. You can usually open another instance of Excel by browsing through the
Start Menu -> Programs -> Microsoft Office ->
Excel. Make sure this newly opened Excel file is the last Excel file you had viewed and then double click on the Excel file that you wanted to open. This will force the Excel to
    open
in the second instance of Excel. Now you can move these
two excel files separately across windows or monitors.
This may be little cumbersome way to open new instances of Excel every time. The easy solution would be to keep these links in the
quick links near the Start button. So, every time you want to open a new instance of the application, you can just use those quick links.
    hope work thanks

  • Unable to save display settings and Multiple Monitors

Have Windows 7 RTM installed on my laptop and was working great with extending to my monitor. I took my laptop home and hooked it up to my tv and it was fine. Now when I bring it back to work I cannot get the monitor to work. Only the display on the laptop is working. Windows can detect the monitor, but I try to enable the monitor and when I select Apply I get an error message "Unable to save display settings". I am a local administrator on the laptop. How can I extend to my monitor!
    Thanks

    Hi,
Error message " Unable to save display settings" mainly indicates that you try to extend or duplicate the desktop to the two external monitors in addition to the laptop screen. Generally, laptop supports only two displays at one time due to hardware limitation. I
suspect that the issue occurs because the laptop remembers both configuration for your extended monitor and TV. To extend your monitor, you need to clear the multiple configuration for your laptop and then extend your display by changing your display
settings. To do this, please take the following steps:
    Step 1. Delete registry key.
    ==================
    1)Press Win + R to open a run box.
2)In the Run box, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3)Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MobilePC\TMM
4)Right-click the subkey that you located in step 2. Then, click Delete.
5)When you are prompted to confirm the delete operation, click Yes.
6)On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.
7)Log off the computer. Then, log on to the computer.
Step 2. Extend your display by changing display settings.
    ====================================
1)Open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, and then, under Appearance and Personalization, clicking Adjust screen resolution.
2)Click the drop-down list next to Multiple displays, click Extend these displays, and then click OK.

This registry key does not exist in my Laptop and it still won't work.  I have an Asus N53S

  • Leadtek A280 TD (TI-4800SE) Multiple monitor support not available on

    Hello,
I have a new Leadtek Winfast A280 TD MyVIVO card (TI-4800) on a MSI K7N2G-ILSR (nForce2 motherboard). Completely fresh installation of XP pro with nothing except the nForce 2 motherboard drivers and the latest (43.45)drivers. I know that the internal nForce IGP is disabled when an AGP card is inserted.
I have two LG 1710S (VGA connector only monitors), both plugged into the A280, one in the VGA port and the other one into the DVI port using a DVI-to_VGA converter.
The problem is that I cannot use my second monitor at all. When booting it displays a cloned inage, but once in XP the second display (on the DVI) goes blank and stays blank. Nothing I can do with nView or the drivers will make
it work (or even be detected) in any way at all.
    Three key points:
    1. nView Desktop Manager -> Windows -> Window control is all greyed out.
    2. Desktop -> Properties -> Settings shows only one monitor with none of the 'Extend my windows desktop' options one normally sees with dual head cards.
    3. Desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> GeForce -> nView display mode ->nView modes only the Standard (Dualview) option is available and the graphic shows only one screen.
I am reasonably experienced with multiple monitors having used Matrox cards for years and setup a nice little Shuttle SN42G dual monitor system using the same nVidia drivers. So I am fairly sure I've not overlooked a setting somewhere.
BIOS is all fully up to date (1.3) and XP SP1 is applied. The card works fine in 3D games and everything, but just does not seem to realise it has a second monitor.
    *** KEY POINT ***
I am worried that the MSI K7N2G-ILSR motherboard is somehow preventing the support of dual monitors with my A280 card in WinXP because it itself does not support dual monitors with the IGP. This may not be true, but I have to post my experience into this forum.
    *** KEY POINT ***
    Thanks,
    James Burton

Okay. I figured out what was going wrong. Nothing to do with the MSI or the motherboard but it is of interest to anyone wanting dual monitor on two LCD flat screens.
It turns out that the A280 graphics card (and probably other nVidia cards) do not detect LCD monitors (at least by default) in the secondary position.
This was verified when I connected an normal CRT as secondary an it all wored fine.
Further discussions will be posted in the nVidia newsgroup for those interested

I filed some bugs or ERs on this some months ago from Oracle. With very large or multiple monitors, there is a fundamental UI problem with the Microsoft-originated "Multiple-Document Interface" model in which an application's document windows are all enclosed within a main backdrop window.
As a longtime Mac user I have always been amazed that most Windows users work with a single document maximized in a single application window that is maximized over the whole screen. That is, Windows users actually don't use windowing; they use something more like screen swapping. JDeveloper (who knows maybe it's Swing too) buys into this big time by orienting the entire UI around the main JDeveloper window. The tabs and tab groups don't help this at all -- especially given that they always try to dock on you and maximize.
Now Windows UIs have alway squandered screen space -- I'm sorry, does everything really have to have three levels of bulky tool bars? -- and so when displays were smaller (800x600 or less) this way of working made sense. In fact, Windows wastes enough space to exhaust a 1024x768 monitor on a single window.
But when you get any larger than 1024x768, or when you add an additional monitor, that background MDI window is a complete waste, and document windows/tab groups docking and maximizing does not good whatever.
PLEASE allow JDeveloper to run without this backdrop window. Let users move and size tab groups however they like. Preferably this would be a user preference, so I don't have to be CTRL-dragging all the time.
    Best,
    Andrew
