Multiple movie files after import

I'm ****** of!
Whenever I import a movie (TV-shows/Podcast/Music works great) to iTunes I get an extra copy on the disk. This occurs both if I drag-n-drop in iTunes or if I copy a movie the folder "Automaticly add to iTunes" in the iTunes media folder...
The movie is duplicated into two different folders with the exact same name and date/time. In each folder is a copy of the movie. If I delete on folder, both are deleted. If I look at the properties for each folder I get information that the size is equal to the original mp4-file. If I select both folders and look at properties I get twice the size of the original movie.
If I import a movie (TV-episode)and then change its property in iTunes to TV-show the movie is moved to the folder TV-shows and the problem describe abowe dosn't occur....
What the **** is going on!! I don't want to loose half my real diskspace to some virtual bug!! Please help me!!

How do I import images from my hard drive without losing resolution? My original files after import are significantly smaller. What should I do?

Hi Keith, and all others chiming in, I do have the correct option checked in advanced settings telling iPhoto to copy the images into the library. What is a refernced library? Perhaps this is where I am getting confused. I exported my entire photo library from an old iMac5 to my external hard drive, from there I attempted to import the entire library to my new iMac. Am I overlooking an obvious and easy way to import from the hard drive to the new iMac--I dragged the entire photo pholder from the hard drive to the open window of iPhoto on the new computer. Now, I only get preview file sizes in iPhoto, unless I have my external drive open. Perhaps I need to import the original images from the hard drive in a different way...?! (This is making me feel pretty stupid.)

What system and iPhoto version are you running and do you have Qjuicktime Player 7 installed. It would be in the Applications or Applications/Utilities folder.

  • Opening multiple movie files to play sequentially.

Currently, if I highlight several movie (e.g. .avi) files in a Finder window and then double-click on one of them, each of the files is opened in a separate QuickTime window and if I have "automatically play movies when opened" QuickTime preference set, then they all start playing simultaneously!
How do I change it so that opening multiple movie files results in them being played sequentially in a single window?
P.S. I have "Open movies in new players" preference is disabled.
P.P.S. For image files it all works correctly - they are opened in Preview and I get an option of starting a slideshow...

    Hi,
I'm not on a Mac at the moment to test, but I could have sworn you used to be able to open one movie, pause it and then drag and drop subsequent movies onto that window to append them to the end.
Give it a try. Sorry if I've been imagining things though

  • Is iPhoto changing my .mov format after importing from iPad?

Or is iTunes changing it while importing?
It seems iPhoto is making movies incompatible with iPad.
My iPad sees and plays my .mov videos directly taken by my canon sd 1400 is. They play in the photos app of my ipad after using the camera kit, and it's great for sharing with friends during a vacation.
The bad news is after ipad uploads these videos and photos to my mac's iPhoto, iPhoto is changing the format (I am guessing) so that the videos can not be uploaded back to the ipad in an album. Why? How can I change or fix this?
I am hoping someone points me to a magic setting in iPhoto that says, "Check this box if you don't want your videos broken with iPad"

The iTunes app on your computer is very strict as to importing videos to the iPad.
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
Even if your video does follow the above specs. Not all h.264 are created equally to the h.264 standards.
The Camera Connection Kit is not as strict.
I can import videos from my Flip Mino HD camera when using the Camera Connection Kit. When trying to import the same video using iTunes I get the message,'file format no supported.'
The previous iOS 3.x did not support importing Flip videos when using the Camera Connection Kit. I was happy to find that the iOS 4.2.1 upgrade did!!! Now I don't have to buy a new video camera!!!
To answer you question... Use the Camera Connection Kit. It's better than nothing...

  • Converting .MOD movie file for import into FCP

I have a DVD with .MOD movie files I am editing for a church. The files open in a PC with Windows Media Player, although I can not import them into After Effects in a PC, and they do not open in QuickTime Player.
I would like to edit these clips using Final Cut Studio in my macbook pro. Is there any way to convert these files to .mov???
    Thanks for any input/suggestions.

  • How can I save .mov file as another .mov file after trim from Pre9?

I would have thought this would be simple.  Just like I can crop a still image in Photoshop and save it with a new name (or the same name), I expected to be able to trim or split an .mov file in Premiere Elements 9 and save the resulting file(s) under a new name (or the same name) while preserving the same format.
    But SIX hours later, NO.
Instead, after I split or trim the .mov file, it seems to be held hostage inside a project that won't let it go.  I even tried "exporting" it but the choices are different than the properties of the source file (a BAD thing), and the resulting two files from the export are unreadable on my computer (USELESS).
The .mov file was shot with a Canon EOS Rebel T3i.  Windows with Vista.  Adobe Premiere Elements 9.  I also have Photoshop CS5 Extended and Lightroom 3.4.x, if either of those would help.
I'm sure that I'm mistaken,  There MUST be a secret menu option to SAVE-the-trimmed-CLIP-as-a-SOURCE-file.
How could there not be something this basic?

    Quoting Steve:
"I'll say it once more: It's impossible to cut a piece of video and then resave your file.....[because] IT'S [against] THE NATURE OF EDITING VIDEO WITH EVERY VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE IN THE WORLD."
    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ *** ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
I'm very pleased to say that I've found out how to do exactly what I wanted to do, despite Steve's strongly stated opinion that it is "impossible."
    I can:
..... trim or split a video
..... and save it under the same name or a different name(s)
..... WITHOUT converting it to something else before or after trimming
..... WITHOUT changing it from its original format
    ..... WITHOUT exporting (compressing) it
..... WITHOUT "rendering" it different in any way except my desired length change (and resulting smaller file size)
This is desireable to me in order to:
..... save many gigs of space on my terabyte drives
..... while retaining source file footage that may be useful in future projects
..... IN ITS ORIGINAL (source) FORMAT !!!!!
    YAY!!!
I got thinking about the software that came with my camera.  I didn't install it because it included things like a program to handle RAW images (and I prefer to use Adobe Lightroom 3) and a program that I thought might be similar to Bridge (and I really like Adobe Bridge).
But I decided to install it and see if there was anything there that would allow me to work with the videos and sure enough, there it was - the ability to trim my videos of the junk while keeping the rest in original perfect format, just as it was shot. From a user's point of view, it is a precise video version of cropping a still image in Photoshop.  EXACTLY what I wanted to do!!!
Here is a collage of the properties box of the "before" version (the original original), collaged together with the  properties box of the "after" version (the trimmed original).  The properties boxes are the properties as reported by Adobe Premiere Elements 9.
In the above-shown collage of the screenshots that I've made for you, you can see that nothing has changed in terms of the properties.  The only changes are the length (because I cut it), the file size (because it is MUCH smaller now), and the name (because I wanted to preserve the original file in order to make a screenshot of its properties for you). I WANT TO REPEAT - the new CUT file is identical to the original, except the unwanted portion has been cropped away. It was NOT compressed, it was NOT rendered, it was NOT exported.  It is a true source file utilizing original footage in its original format.
(This forum limits images to 450 pix wide so to see that all the relevant format properties are the same in both properties boxes, you may have to increase the size through your browser by holding down the [Ctrl] and hitting the "=" key (the one with the "+" above the "=" sign).)
    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ *** ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Here are the steps I took to make the screenshot above:
1 - Opened the original file in Canon ZoomBrowser EX 6.7 (which came with the camera).
2 - Trimmed ("cut") the file by placing a start point and stop point around the desirable footage.
3 - Saved under a different file name.  (NOTE:  This was a true save, NOT an export, NOT a "render" of some sort.)
4 - Switched to Adobe Premiere Elements 9 and started a new "project."
5 - Used "Get Media" to pull the original version and the cut version of the video into the project.  NOTE:  I pulled the cut version in first, so if there had been a format mismatch (as compared with the DSLR-1080p30 @29.97 setting I normally use when creating a new project), Premiere would have said so.  But there was NOT a format mismatch.  And it runs perfectly, just as it did before, including audio.
6 - Right clicked each video and took a screenshot of the properties of each to show you.
And this means I can use the trimmed footage for any purpose down the road, yet I didn't have to save the entire file which included unwanted footage.  And I've saved a considerable amount of space on one of my terabyte drives.
    SUMMARY:
    Easy as pie:
I trimmed the excess off a video WITHOUT "converting," "exporting," "compressing," "rendering" or changing the format away from the original in any way.
No loss of any type of data whether audio or visual or "other."  (Except, of course, the unwanted footage.)

  • Restoring picture and movie files after hard drive failure and repair

I need some help restoring photo/movie files from my external hard drives after my iBook was repaired following a storm. I have backups hidden all over my external hard drives. I have unburned burn folders that may have pictures on them. I was using iPhoto from iLife 05 and iLife 08, and Kodak Easy Share. I have searched on spotlight using ".jpg", "pics", and ".mov" and titles of various images, but I am still missing images that I am fairly sure I duplicated to external hard drives. Any ideas for searching?

Thanks, I just downloaded EasyFind. I ran an initial search and it looked very effective. I will have to manually check the search results to see if it is getting any files I haven't already been able to find.

  • Aperture 3.4.5 will not show NEF files after importing in OSx 3.8.5

Hi this is driving me crazy.  I have quite a few NEF files from a Nikon E5000 that I would love to be able to process using Aperture but have run into a rather difficut situation.  When I import my images into Aperture I can see the preview of the files in the browser but can not get them to display after they have been imported.  I have tried importing localy through the internal hard drive on my IMac late 2007 as well as through an external NTFS formated USB backup of my files.  It also chokes on direct imprting from the CF card using a card reader.  In all cases they will sometimes display for a brief second both in the picture browser after importing or on the film strip view but will then disapear and display "unsupported image format" in its place.  I have reinstalled aperture and run both repair persissions through disk utility and the aperture repair utility that ships with aperture.  I have no problems with canon raw files or other file formats - jpg, tiff, png, photoshop, bmp.  Also NEF files will open in lightroom 5 and photoshop cs6 with out issue as well.
Any help in restoring functionility would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for the time and effort in advance.
    Que Too

    Nikon E5000
Do you mean a NIkon CP 5000 (Coolpix 5000)? Aperture supports many raw formats, but not all, because the raw support  has to be camera specific. Not all NEF files are in the same format - all Nikon cameras will call their raw files NEF.
For some cameras Aperture never included raw support. The currently supported cameras are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
It looks like your camera is not on this list, so if you want to shoot raw with that camera, develope the raw files using a different raw converter (Adobe's dng converter or the suftware that came with your camera) and import tiff or dng files to Aperture.

  • HT3775 Why will QT 10.3 not open my .mov files after installing Mavericks?

Why do some of my .mov files not open with QT after installing Mavericks?

Were you using Perian before? I'm not sure about this, but I don't think it does anything in Mavericks as the plug-in API changed. I have no idea how to check if Perian is actually doing anything anymore. The developers have ceased supporting it.
    Try playing in VLC.

  • Colours trouble with a psd file after import/export through Lightroom 4

I'm working with CS5, and I just bought LR4. I took a psd file (in Adobe 98 space) and I imported it in LR 4, and the exported as psd file in Adobe 98 colour space. Both files, the original one and the other after import/export, are quite different. The saturation of the res is not the same... When I repeat this experinece with a psd file in sRGB or in Prophoto, I have no difference betwwen both files.
I then conclude that LR doesn't recognize the adobe 98 pprofile of my psd file.
Is that normal, have you tried this experience, is there a bug in LR or a bug in the way, I proceed?
    Best regards

When you import there is an Advanced button in one of the dialogs. Click that and you will be able to Paginate against chosen styles. That will break your document into topics.

  • Batch Rename Raw Files After Import?

Can you batch rename raw files after you import, so that the file name changes in Aperture and on the hard drive? I want to be able to edit images, and then rename only the keepers. This has been asked before here, but I could not find an answer.
    Thanks!

    File -> Export, Kind: Original
When you import a Raw to iPhoto it automatically creates a jepg preview of the file. Why? Because you cannot do anything with a Raw: you cannot print it, use it a slideshow and so on. However, with this preview you can work with the photo immediately.
You can, however, also process the Raw in iPhoto simply by editing it. The Raw processing engine in iPhoto the same one used in Aperture, but with less fine control. (Think of the differences between Word and TextEdit, iMovie and Final Cut). The output from the processing then replaces the preview. You can choose to save your output as either jpeg or tiff in the iPhoto Preferences.
When you are processing Raw in iPhoto you will see the Raw badge on the bottom of the iPhoto Window
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Note: After you have processed a Raw, subsequent edits to the photo are carried out on the processed jpeg (or tiff) not the Raw. If you want to go back to the original then you need to use the Photos -> Reprocess Raw command.
Aperture works in an entirely different way. What are you trying to do, exactly?

  • Trouble opening mpeg movie files and importing into iMovie 08

Hi, I'd be most grateful if anyone could provide any solutions to the following problem...
A friend has emailed me two .mpeg movie files which are parts 1&2 of a home movie which I want to edit in iMovie and burn to DVD. The footage was shot on a miniHDV camcorder (not sure which brand).
Opening in QT 7.6 gives the following warning dialogue: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file."
The files will however play fine in VLC Media Player, but not in mpeg Streamclip (the file appears to play but the viewer is blank with no audio/video). Trying to import into iMovie is unsuccessful. The iMovie browser won't let me choose the files or drag/drop.
Any ideas. I read somewhere that iMovie 08 can't import mpeg-1 files. Do I need to convert the files, and if so how?
Thanks in advance, and apologies - this is my first experience of video editing.

I have QT Player but it hasn't "kicked in" when I try to import my videos.
Something called PIXE VRF Browser is supposed to help in the conversion. The QT MPEG-2 thingy won't install until I buy QT Pro, according to what I get on the screen.
Sounds like you have too many applications trying to do the same thing. Either use the Pixela Pixe VRF Browser or use the Mac applications (Mac OS Finder, Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback Component w/MPEG Streamclip) but not both to do the same job. The Apple Finder should be able to copy multiplexed VOB/MPEG-2 files from either your PC burned DVD or directly from your camcorder DVD to your MAC hard drive where MPEG Streamclip/QT MPEG-2 component can convert them for use in iMovie '08. Frankly, I don't understand your work work flow or why you want to import your files to a GOP editor in the first place if your goal is to do frame level editing in iMovie '08.
As for Jon's suggestion, I am on dial-up and cannot download big files at 3-4 Kbps snail pace.
What does this have to do with importing your camcorder files to your PC and re-burning them to DVD for use on your Mac? If I were to make a recommendation here, it would have been to use an external hard drive here rather than DVDs for transporting files between platforms and then only if you want the files available to both. If your goal is only to edit them in iMovie '08 or iMovie HD on your Mac, then why not cut out the "middleman" platform?
I wish I could purchase these updates on DVDs but the genies couldn't even tell me if there's such a service.
Totally confused here. Are you saying your DVR-D300 files were commercial produced or that you are dealing with torrent downloads of copy-written material? These are two separate issues with facets beyond the scope of this forum.
As for "platform", I have iMovie08. iMac does not read the mini RAM disks when I connect the camera to a USB port.
Are you saying the Finder doesn't read them or that iMovie '08 doesn't read them? Do you "finalize" your DVDs before trying to read them via USB as the manual states may be necessary as indicated on page 150 of your manual?
How can I find out that iMovie09 will let me import and edit my Panasonic videos?
You could try going to the Apple site and checking the the tapeless camcorder compatibility chart. The Panasonic DVR-D300 is specifically listed along with a hot link for additional information. However, this still won't help you you don't finalize the content.
