Multiple NetBoot Images on one netbot server

Hi
We have a range of machines in our office and im trying to setup our licensed snow leopard server.
At present when i plug in a disk it only sees the 10.6 image ive setup and refuses to see the 10.5, 10.7 and 10.8 base images ive got which ic annoying.
Any ideas as to how i get the System Image utility to image the base systems so i can serve them to our machines?
We have some PPC machines stil and a load of old and new Intel machines.
Im also trying to create the netrestore images as well as i have a load of sparseimage backups for the images i want to restore, any idea how to image these into the Netrestore format?

System Image Utility only creates images of the OS it is installed on. To make images of 10.5 and 10.7 you will need to install the Server Admin tools on an appropriate system to create images. For 10.8, System Image Utility is installed in /System/Library/CoreServices on all systems.
To make NetRestore images from the sparse images, mount them as a volume and make a NetRestore from the volume.

  • Error Creating NetBoot Image in OS X Server 10.4.9 (PPC)

I am new the the world of servers and OS X Server so forgive my ignorance. I have been trying to create a NetBoot image in OS X Server 10.4.9 (from a disk image of Mac OS X 10.4.6 for Power PC) and it has failed every single time, with varying amounts of a NetBoot image--none bootable--appearing in the share point. I have tried installing on the server and remotely from an administrator computer and it has never worked. I have followed the directions to the letter in the documentation and I still have two servers that have yet to serve anything. Is there some basic concept or tenet concerning making network boot images from OS X disk images that eludes me? Is it simply a hardware issue (the servers are G3s but supposedly Server 10.4 can be installed on a PowerMac G3 (they're decently equipped with RAM and SCSI drives).
Sidebar: if I have a server running OS X Server 10.2, do all the client computers have to run Jaguar as well? Told you I was new to this.
    MacBook Pro 2.33/3GB/120GB   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   PowerMac G4 FW800, 16 b&w PowerMacs G3; TiBook G4

Well it looks like that question was deemed to lowly to answer. Luckily I found out for myself that SCSI and certain video cards can impede the smooth installation of OS X Server 10.4 and that one should use the installed in the Other Installs folder and not set the CD as the startup disk to avoid these incompatibilities.

  • FCP 10.1.3 multiple graphic images into one frame

Hi - How do I put multiple graphic images into one frame? - so it kind of looks like a video wall - except these are still images. I can do it manually but it's not precise. Anyone found a way other than this? Thanks.

Here is my quick and dirty generator called "9 Pictures": https://www.dropbox.com/s/92c536wgesh2yzj/9%20Pictures.zip?dl=0
To install it, unzip the file and place the folder inside /Users/yourname/Movies/Motion Templates/Generators
It will look like this in FCP X. You just have to click each drop zone icon in the inspector and then select the desired clip from the browser. Use the Pan and Scale controls in the inspector to select which part of each image you want to use. Note: this was done in the hope that it may be helpful, but it is no more than a quick thing. You can also control-click the generator in the generator browser and choose open in motion (if you have it) to see how it was done and to modify it.

  • NetBoot Images Not Recognized by Server

I can use SIU to create NetBoot images from my install package just fine.   They end up in the Library/NetBoot/NetbootSP0 directory.   But the Server NetInstall images pane tells me that "No images available" regardless of where I place them.  The client sharepoints are available in the File Share service. I've followed the instructions from multiple sources (the all say essentially the same thing) to no avail.
Now I'm just stuck.  This should be working, but I can't figure out what I'm missing.

I'm not sure if I am answering the correct question or not...
And my experience was on 10.6.8 server, with NetRestore rather than NetBoot.  Nevertheless I'll mention what I found in case it is helpful as they are very nearly the same process.
I had awful problems in the past getting the whole process to work, it seems that it matters which machine you use to do the imaging.  What I found worked was to:
    - clone the disc you want to image onto a USB disc.  I can't remember what I used to do this, would have been either ditto or SuperDuper!  (I found in the past that CarbonCopy Cloner worked less well)
    - plug the USB disc into the server and run Disk Image Utility on the server
For me this was the "Eureka" moment that made the whole thing suddenly work.
Also I should mention that I found that it matters which network switch you use.  A TPLink switch didn't pass something that was needed for the NetRestore process to work, whereas an HP Procurve switch worked fine.

  • Multiple domains hosted on one OSX Server

    Hi guys,
Does anyone know if it is possible to host more than one domain name on OSX server?
A client of mine runs a number of businesses and is considering Snow Leopard Server, and wants to have multiple email domains and websites hosted on one server. Also per-account contacts sync and calendar sync would be useful, does anyone know if that's available?
    Thanks!
    W.

You can certainly host multiple domains on Mac OS X Server. There are a few options depending on how you want it to work.
If all the usernames are the same across all domains (e.g. [email protected] is the same person as [email protected]) then just change the mail server configuration to match all the domains in the mydestination parameter in /etc/postfix/main.cf.
If the domains are different (e.g. [email protected] is not the same account as [email protected]) then you have two options - one is to use the postfix model (which requires command-line management), the other is to add the email addresses in the shortname section for each user.
You may have some issues integrating contacts and calendars, though - if you take the postfix model then the users won't exist in Open Directory and won't have a calendar/contact link, etc.
If you follow the shortname model then you have one directory with all users in all domains and you'll need to work to separate them out if you need to.

  • Multiple Java version on one Single Server

    Hello All,
    Linux RedHat 2.4.21-32.ELsmp
    jdk1.3.0
    j2sdk1.4.1_03
We currently have an application that only runs with java 1.3.0, but also we have other application that need to be on java 1.4.+.
What would be the right approuch in order to have multiple Java versions on a single server.
    TIA,
    Bruno

I am pretty sure you can do that.
I have done this with AccessGates and a Webgate is just an AccessGate with extra features. I am pretty sure we have done this on Apache with a webgate in different directories. Makes logical sense that it would work.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Serving Multiple NetBoot Images

I have an Xserve running 10.5 Server. I want the Xserve to allow diskless NetBoot. Everything works right now. My iMacs are diskless netbooting to an OSX 10.5 nbi. but I want to have many different images. Each image will have a different set of applications. One .nbi may have 10.5+Final Cut Pro, another .nbi may have 10.5+nothing else.
The reason why I want to do this is complex, let's not get into it.
In short, can I specify which MAC address will boot to which .nbi? For example, I want to have MAC address 12:34:56:78:9A:BC to diskless netboot to abc.nbi, while MAC address 23:43:54:32:43:21 to diskless netboot to def.nbi. Is this possible?
If MAC address is not possible, what about by IP range, or by subnet? The iMacs are spread out in many different subnets right now. I am using Netboot Across Subnets to Netboot and it works flawlessly.

    garywchan wrote:
At the image level, do you mean a setting in System Image Utility when I make the .nbi? Does that mean I'll have to remake the .nbi or can this be applied to existing .nbi?
In theory, it means you'll need to re-create the image. In practice, you could manually add the appropriate bits to the NBImageInfo.plist file.
Also, can't OSX Server 10.6 serve 10.5 .nbi? I am aware of the last sentence in your paragraph, but I can always use SIU 10.5 to make a 10.5 .nbi for my 10.6 server to serve, right?
Correct. You can server the 10.5 images from a 10.6 server.
Build an image with filtering on 10.6 to get an NBImageInfo.plist file to get the appropriate keys and format (something like enableMACAddressList... I don't recall the exact key). Copy your images from the 10.5 server to the 10.6. server. Manually add the filter data to NBImageInfo.plist.
It's best if you turn off the NetBoot service while doing this, or do it before moving the images into the NetBootSP0 folder.

  • Change duration of multiple still images in one operation

    Hello Folks.
I am trying to change the duration of each image in a sequence of still images.
    Program: Adobe Premiere Elements 7
    Mode: Standard Definition 4/3 ratio
File types in use: MOD, AVI, PNG
Problem: The product manual states: "To apply the new default length to all still images in your project, delete them from Project view and reimport them into your project."
Question: Is there a way to select a group of still images and then apply a new duration value to all of them in one operation?  An Adobe salesperson told me that this is possble before I purchased the program, but I cannot figure out how this is done. I switched to Adobe from another product in order to get this feature. Now that I need it, I cannot figure a way to get it to work. Time Stretch is not available when I select multiple images.
    Thank you,
    Brian

    Brian,
Unfortunately not. PrPro CS4.2 has just added a way to change the Duration of previously Imported stills, but so far PrE does not allow for this, unless it is new to PrE 8, but I have not read of this.
As noted, the method is to set the Edit>Preferences>General>Default Stills, and choose the Duration in Frames. Then Import the stills. If they are in the Project, that setting has already been applied, so one must delete them from the Project Panel and re-Import them with the new Duration.
Now, one can obviously change the Duration on a one-by-one basis in the Timeline, but that can be tedious, if there are many stills. If I were doing this, I would make sure to have the Info Panel open and nearby, Window>Info.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - if PrE 8 HAS added the post-Import Duration change, I hope someone steps up with that info.

  • Multiple hero images from one thumb?

Hello all, I have been trying to figure this out for a while and it's driving me crazy (In Muse). Normally when I click on a thumb in a slideshow it shows just one hero image of the thumb (which makes sense). But I really want to have it so that if you click on a thumb then you are able to click through a number of hero images from the same thumb. For example, I have a pic of a car as the hero image, I then want to be able to click on the hero image and click through a number of images showing the cars interior. Is this possible? If not are there work-arounds?
    thank you so much

This is, why I like Muse so much: A well sorted set of features, which fully unfolds, when you combine them. This produces much more creativity then drowning the users in countless switches, buttons and dialog boxes for a contextless flood of incoherent features.

  • Combine multiple still images into one clip PE 10

Is it possible to combine mulitple still images into a single clip? For example, I have 50 still images in a video track, each of which is a clip, and I want to combine them into single clip out of them so I can adjust the opacity without having to adjust each of the 50 clips individually. Any information is welcome. Thanks.

    Mark,
I had done this but I was hoping there was an easier way to do it within PE, without having to export as a video file and then importing that video file.
One has to think about what PrE is doing with the Timeline, to understand why the Export/Share is necessary to get Stills/Clips to become one file. PrE is a non-destructive editor, in that it does not actually work with the Source Footage/Files, but only extracts data from them. What we see on the Timeline is really a proxy file, representing the edits that we are making. It is stored as XML language, with first links to the Source Files, and then a set of instructions on what we have done with that data. Since the Timeline is but a representation, of what we have done, there is no AV file - yet. That does not come about, until we Export/Share. At that point, PrE looks at the Project file (PREL), and notes exactly what data is required from the Source Files. The program then reads that information, and say gathers the data of Clip # 1 from 00;00;00;00 until 00;05;00;00, for use in the output file. It then moves to say Clip 2, and extracts the data needed there. Finally, the program processes that data, say adding Effects, and then Exports/Shares to a new file - creating that from the data, and the instructions. Still, the originals are not changed in any way - they are untouched, and only read from.
For instance, say we have a 20 min. Source Clip, and cut it into 30 tiny segments, "deleting" material between those. We have not really Cut that Source Clip, and we have not really deleted anything - only in our proxy file, and with the instructions in the PREL. It is the same with Still Images. We see them as separate Clips, with the Duration that we have set, and perhaps any animation that we have added via Keyframing the Fixed Effects>Motion>Scale (Zoom), and Motion>Position (Pan), but other than seeing those changes in the proxy file, used only for display of the Timeline and playback, nothing has been done yet. Then, upon Export/Share, when the output file is created, those changes are enacted on it.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Multiple Scale Images in one workflow?

I want to take a large image, scale it down and rename it, then scale the new smaller image and rename it. (The Create Thumbnail function makes them too small, though.)
Right now, my workflow looks like this:
    Get Selected Finder Items
    Copy Finder Items
    Scale Images
    Rename Finder Items
    Copy Finder Items
    Scale Images
    Rename Finder Items
The workflow does the first scale and rename, and while it says it does the second half, nothing results from those commands. The log shows no errors. Playing with it, it seems that the second Copy Finder Items isn't working. The only workaround is for that second Copy Items to be pointed to a different folder than where the first items are put (which is annoying).
I've tried throwing in commands for Automator to create a new folder and move things around, but repeatedly specifying where to move and copy almost defeats the purpose.
Any idea how to get a single workflow to take one image, then scale and rename it twice to end up with TWO images of different sizes and names? TIA

Have you tried the Move finder items action, if you say the workaround is to save it in a different folder?
    Just guessing:
    Get Selected Finder Items
    Copy Finder Items
    Scale Images
Rename Finder Items (this is size 1)
Copy Finder Items (to a prespecified temp folder)
    Scale Images
    Rename Finder Items
Move Finder Items (back to where you want it to be, this is size 2)
    See if it works

  • Multiple SGD Gateways to one SGD server - cannot connect

I am having an issue bringing up a new SGDG.. We have all the certificates and gateways configured, but I seem to be running into the --security-gateway setting issue.
Does anyone see an issue with this?
Both SGD servers sit in a DMZ, which are NATTed 172.16.254.41 and 172.16.160.10, i have my SGD server NATTed to 172.16.(254/160).35 and I've tested both port 443 and 5307 from sgdusa2 and they can communicate fine.
    ./tarantella config edit --security-gateway "172.16.254.41:sgdg:sgdusa.XXXXXXXX.com:443;172.16.160.10:sgdg:sgdusa2.XXXXXXXXX.com:443;*:direct:amralbvdi01"
My sgdusa (172.16.254.41) gateway works fine, but when I try to use my sgdusa2 gateway the client never connects and errors out with "Cannot connect to server amralbvdi01.XXXXXXX.com:5307"
    Thanks

The delimiter in your command is invalid, separate each filter-spec entry with "comma's"
Anyway, you do realize that the "IP addresses" you've specified in your filter-spec apply to "client" connections, not "gateway" connections, right?
That is, a client with the ip address .41 will route through gateway sgdusa, a client connecting with ip address .10 will route through sgdusa2, and everyone else will connect directly to amralbvdi01 - not sure that's what you want.
And why two gateways for one server? For a load-balanced deployment, you'll want a load-balancer, like:

  • Multiple ip addresses on one Mac Server

we have 2 ethrnet, 1GB network, on 2 separate switchers, diffierent IP range, what iam looking for is to set the primery eathrnet port on the server and client MAC PRO, only for internet traficing usage, the secondery port use for open directory traffic and file share traffice.
To let you know i had these problems during installing the previous idea, first the open directory cant locate a clear path on the secondery eathernet port, since the open directory takes 2 IP (public IP and Private IP) in same time, second the client cant access the net work account, also the client cant see the server DNS.
I will attache an discreption drew concerning my OPEN DIRECTORY on MY SERVER.

By default, every service will listen on every interface, so you're going to need to jump through several hoops to secure your system.
For the most part your answer lies in ordering the interfaces and in routing.
Given a system with two ethernet ports, en0 = 10.1.1.1/255.255.255.0 and en1 = 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 with a public router at 192.168.1.254 you should set it up as:
    en0:
    IP Address 10.1.1.1
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    Router: -NONE-
    DNS: Your INTERNAL DNS Server
    en1:
    IP Address: 192.168.1.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router: 192.168.1.254
    DNS: Your INTERNAL DNS servers
Additionally, en1 should be dragged to the top of the list of interfaces.
Now the OS will use en0 for all 10.1.1.x traffic and en1 for all 192.168.1.x traffic as well as external/internet traffic (since it's the only interface with a router address).
As mentioned above, this won't stop the service listening on both 'public' and 'private' interfaces, so you'll still need to take steps to stop advertising your Open Directory data to the 'public' port, but the basic network setup should work.

  • Re: Change duration of multiple still images in one operation

I have done this in Premiere CS6. Make sure your selection Tool is selected. Click and drag to select the multiple slides that are ALREADY placed in your timeline that you want to change. Right click on your selection (make sure it's a regular mouse cursor and not a red editing tool) and click "Speed/Duration." Change the duration by clicking and dragging the yellow numbers. You can also type it in if need be. Keep in mind that it is in Hours:Minutes:Seconds:Fractions Seconds. Be sure that "Ripple Edit, Shifting Trailing Clips" is checked otherwise you will get gaps between photos if cutting down the time or nothing will happen if you are increasing the duration. Click OK.
