Multiple network ports.... options?

Our Xserve has 4 ethernet ports, but our switch doesn't support the right kind of link aggregation to make use of a fat trunked 4Gb connection to our network.
Is there any way I can I make use of these multiple ports to enhance or optimise network traffic to our server, and if so, how?
I guess I could activate and connect all 4 ports to our 2x 24 port switches, but each connection would need a different IP address – presumably that would affect DNS and accessing services on the server?
Advice appreciated!!

Really. At least, that was the case last December when we moved premises, bought the Xserve and a couple of these switches..... I think it's to do with that 'manual' bit in the Netgear specs – I have a feeling a little more intelligence on the part of the switch is required.
I had read the specs and assumed it would work. Frustratingly, I tried everything (last year), and no good. I'm not at work just now, so I can't log in to the control panel, but from memory, all you can do is specify groups of ports to 'trunk' together – it works fine between the two switches (I've set up a two-port trunk between the switches), just not Xserve to Switch A (or B!).
I really wanted this to work, as it would have balanced our network load to the server nicely, so if anyone thinks I've missed something........?

  • Cant login multiple network accounts on the same client?

    Setup:
I have created a simple Lion Server on a new i7 Mac Mini. I have configured Open Directory in Master mode and have setup 4 user accounts. I have enabled the File Sharing service and checked the "Make available for home directories" option on the "Users" file share. I have configured each of the 4 user accounts to use this location as the home folder. I have connected my client machines (all OSX Lion) to the Network Account Server.
    Problem:
I can log one user into the client machine, but when using "Fast User Switching" and logging on as the second user I get the following error:
"You are unable to log in to the user account "guestaccount" at this time. Loggin to the account failed because an error occured"
In the console if I search for that user account the related error message is:
    11-07-31 12:30:54.993 PM authorizationhost: ERROR | -[HomeDirMounter mountNetworkHomeWithURL:attributes:dirPath:username:] | PremountHomeDirectoryWithAuthentication( url=afp://inntaserver01.local/Users, homedir=/Network/Servers/inntaserver01.local/Users/guestaccount, name=guestaccount ) returned 16
Any thoughts as to why the Home Folder "mounter" failed in this scenario?

Historically you have never been allowed to use Fast User Switching to log in multiple network logins on the same client machine. This certainly applied with Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard. I have not yet personally tried this with Lion.
I believe that the underlying reason for this not being allowed is down to how AFP volumes are mounted. The AFP mount becomes 'owned' by the user that triggers the login. With a network login the first user becomes the owner and this means subsequent attempted network logins are denied access to that share and hence cannot access their home directories.
With Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard servers, one could configure network home directories to be shared via NFS instead of AFP. NFS gets treated a lot different in terms of mounting, and is done more at a system level than a user level. While again I have not personally tried Fast User Switching with NFS shared home directories, this approach is specifically recommended by the authors of AquaConnect (a Macintosh Terminal Server solution) in order to allow multiple logins on the same Terminal Server. This seems to be for the same underlying reason. Using NFS does certainly work for use with AquaConnect and also works for the competing iRAPP Terminal Server product as well.
Unfortunately, Lion Server while it can be made to run an NFS server, will not let you configure using NFS for sharing home directories. I have actually reported this as a 'bug' in Lion server.
Neither the authors of AquaConnect or iRAPP have actually tested this scenario with Lion server yet, but AquaConnect do plan to investigate it. It could make it considerably more difficult to use their products.
So in summary, using NFS to share network home directories in theory would avoid the problem and can be done with a Tiger/Leopard/Snow Leopard server, but cannot be done with a Lion server. It is possible however to mix Lion with older server versions. This might for some people be a possible workaround.
PS. A bonus side-effect of using NFS shared home directories was that this allowed badly written software like Adobe's applications which are otherwise notorious for having major issues with network logins and home directories to work without errors. As an example Adobe Acrobat Pro introduced a bug in version 7.0 which prevented it being able to print-to-PDF (one of the major reasons to buy Acrobat Pro). It tooks two years for them to eventually fix this in Acrobat Pro 8.1 (I know because I spent that two years nagging them to fix it and was a beta tester). Unfortunately they then reintroduced the bug in Acrobat Pro 9.0. Fortunately I discovered this side-effect got round the issue although a clunkier workaround was also possible for Snow Leopard clients by redirecting certain folder paths.

  • How to submit data from multiple Input Ports in single SUBMIT button  click

    Hi,
    I am in SPS8.
What exactly steps I need to perform to submit data from multiple Input Ports.
I couldn't able to submit One input Form and one Input Table to BAPI data service in single SUBMIT button click.
I debugged the VC application in SPS8.
While debugging, I found that when I click the SUBMIT button in the Input Form, Only data in that Input
form are being passed to the BAPI, But not the Table Form data.
If I click on the SUBMIT button in another Input Table, Only data from that table is being passed to the BAPI, but not the Input form data.
Essentially I need to submit both of them in one SUBMIT button.
    Thanks,
    Ramakrishna

    Ramakrishna,
From the word document that you sent to me the steps you are missing to map the appropriate information into the BAPI is first you are not mapping all data rows into the table input port. To do this double click on the input table view and change your selection mode from single to multiple. Then when you click on your link between the BAPI and your input table you will see a new option appears under data mapping "Mapping Scope" select All Data Rows.
That's the first part of the problem to get the BAPI to recognize both the inputs coming from the form and the table eliminate the submit button from the form. Drag and drop a link from the output port of the table view to the Input port of the BAPI. Double click on the link between the BAPI and the table view and open the expressions editor for the two fields:
    1/ Automatic Source
    2/ SKIP_ITEMS_WITH_ERROR
On the hierarchical folder structure on the right expand expand the Data Fields node to find the fields from the form and map them accordingly.
Now when you hit the submit button on your table it should pass the BAPI all the parameters from both the form and the table.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,
    Scott

  • Does CISCO C3560X VLAN support multiple Network segments which are further configured with HSRP function

    Hi Cisco experts,
My name is Kumagai and I need your expert opinions below.
I am trying to configure one VLAN1 support multiple network segments as below.
(this should be a very straight forward configuration and should be OK, I think ? )
     interface Vlan1
     ip address 172.30.0.0 255.255.128.0
     ip address 172.30.31.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.61.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.71.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.4.253 255.255.255.0 secondary
The only issue that is eating me is the above network segments are using HSRP too
and I am not sure is this possible with a combination of VLAN1 supporting multiples which are
further supported with HSRP settings in Cisco environment.
    !example of HSRP:
    interface Vlan4
     ip address 172.30.4.253 255.255.255.0
     no ip redirects
     standby 4 ip 172.30.4.254
     standby 4 priority 105
     standby 4 preempt
<<< what will happen if I add the HSRP configuration as below into the above VLAN1 with multiple Network segment ??)
I would like to summarize my "Combined" configurations as below but I need your expert opinions on
whether the configuration below is workable without any problem ??
Or it is a total flop because Cisco does not support the configuration below !!!
     interface Vlan1
     ip address 172.30.0.0 255.255.128.0
     ip address 172.30.31.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.61.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.71.253 255.255.254.0 secondary
     ip address 172.30.4.253 255.255.255.0  secondary
     standby 30 ip 172.30.31.254

     standby 30 preempt
     standby 60 ip 172.30.61.254
     standby 60 priority 105
     standby 60 preempt
     standby 70 ip 172.30.71.254
     standby 70 priority 105
     standby 70 preempt
     standby  4 ip 172.30.4.254
     standby  4 priority 105
     standby  4 preempt
    Thanking you in advance !!!!!

    Hi,
As far as i know we dont set the ip helper address on the radio interface. It should be on the L3 interface of corresposding VLANs i.e.
    int vlan 20
    ip helper-address 192.168.33.xxx
    int vlan 60
    ip helper-address 130.20.1.xxx
I'm assuming that your using SVI's (int Vlan 20 and int Vlan 60) rahter than physical interfaces. Also hope you have configured switch port as trunk where this AP is connected.
Modify the AP config as below since you are using data vlan as the native vlan
    interface Dot11Radio0.20
    encapsulation dot1Q 20 native
    interface FastEthernet0.20
    encapsulation dot1Q 20 native
Ideally your AP fastethernet configuration should looks like below and not sure how you missed this as this comes by default when you have multiple vlans for multiple ssids.
    interface FastEthernet0.20
    encapsulation dot1Q 20 native
    no ip route-cache
    bridge-group 20
    no bridge-group 20 source-learning
    bridge-group 20 spanning-disabled
    interface FastEthernet0.60
    encapsulation dot1Q 60
    no ip route-cache
    bridge-group 60
    no bridge-group 60 source-learning
    bridge-group 60 spanning-disabled
    Hope this helps.

  • Multiple midi ports....When will this happen?!

So frustrating that there is still no multiple midi ports yet. I've been a long time user and am considering switching to Cubase because of this as I can not use Logic with VE Pro the way it is intended to be used. Will this ever be an option? Kind of defeats the whole purpose of VE Pro to have to open up multiple instances in Logic.

I agree. Logic Physical Input supports Multiple Ports however the Sequencer does not. The Logic Sequencer is limited to record up to 16 MIDI Channels coming from Any Port. The alternative is to direct cable the Physical Input Ports to Channel Splitters in the Environment and wire them to different Channel Strips. In this scenario you can wire up to say 256 Instruments cabled from different Physical MIDI Ports. If you want to Mixdown the incoming MIDI Ports you have to bounce in real time.

  • Z87-GD65 - how to make E2200 network port active in S5 system power state?

My question is how do I make the E2200 network port active in the S5 system power state on the MSI Z87-GD65 motherboard?
I require Wake on LAN (magic packet) for my computer but after shutdown the network port is inactive hence the WOL packet can not wake the computer. I have checked and activated the following items:
    On the motherboard
    - EuP 2013 = disabled
    - Resume by PCI-E device = enabled
In Windows 8.1 E2200 network port settings
    - Wake on Magic Packet = enabled
    - Energy efficient network = disabled
After I shutdown (power state S5) the network port activity lights go dark so I assume the port has shutdown as well. On my previous Gigabyte motherboard the network port stayed active allowing WOL packets to be transmitted to turn on the pc. Have I missed a setting on this new motherboard? My workmate also bought the same motherboard and has the same issue.

    Success!
MSI support responded and listed the correct settings and it is working!
    So the correct settings are:
    In the motherboard BIOS:
    - LAN Option ROM = Enabled
    - EuP 2013 = Disabled
    - Resume by PCI-E device = Enabled
In Windows 8.1 E2200 network port settings:
    Under Power Management:
    - Allow this device to wake the computer = ON
    - Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer = ON
    Under Advanced:
    - Energy Efficient Ethernet = Disabled
    - Shutdown Wake Up = Enabled
    - Wake on Magic Packet = Enabled
All working fine now. All I was missing was the "Shutdown Wake Up" setting. I hope this helps anyone else who has this excellent motherboard.

  • How to recover from network port configuration deletion (airport)

a couple of years ago, i accidently deleted the network port configuration for AirPort in the Show pop-up menu. No big deal, i thought at the time. I don't have an AirPort card and I won't be using AirPort in this computer. Ok, I now have an old-style AirPort card (powerbook G3 firewire, 10.2.8) and the AirPort utility doesn't see that it's installed. I realized right away, the network doesn't have a port... so the system doesn't see it, right? So, how do I get this port back? Do I have to reload a new System entirely and not save previous network settings... or is there an easier way to recover from my blunder?

    Thanks Rob,
Glad to be here. Yeah, 10.2 works the same as 10.4. The problem with what you suggest is that I can no longer get airport as an option in Network port configs... so when I go to the new button all the other options are there EXCEPT AirPort. This is what I need to restore. I haven't checked, but I'm assuming I've nuked the pref panel out of the master library. So, I've messed up big time. I was looking for a way to recover that didn't involve reloading the whole system. This isn't like OS 9 and older where you can go and pick a little piece and stick it back into your system folder... I think. Thanks for the reply.

  • Can I use my Time Capsule to set up multiple networks, or just one?

Can I use my Time Capsule to set up multiple networks, or just one?  We'd like to offer the internet to clients who are at our studio, but don't want them able to access all our computers, so a second network for them would be useful.

    Two big IFs here.
Not all versions of the Time Capsule have Guest Networking capability, so it might be a good idea to verify that first. Can you provide the model number of your Time Capsule.  it's on the bottom of the device.....starts with an "A" followed by four numbers.
Next, assuming that the Time Capsule has Guest Network capability, the next requirement would be to verify that your modem is compatible with the Time Capsule for that feature.
Basically, you need a simple modem.....not a modem/router or gateway device that is often furnished by Internet Service Providers.  If you are not sure what you have, post back with the make and model number of your "modem" and we'll see if we can find some details ont he device.

  • Is it possible to create a configuration profile that will install multiple network printers and their associated drivers

Is it possible to create a configuration profile that will install multiple network printers and their associated drivers?
I was not able to find profile manager on my employer's installation of 10.6 Server. Is this only a feature of 10.7/10.8 server?

10.6 server does not have profile manager, profile manager is only available in 10/7 and 10.8 server
for 10.6 server you'll need to use wgm and server admin

  • Can Appletalk be active on two network ports for printing?

Here's the core of my question: Can I keep Appletalk active on my Airport network port (in order to print to a wireless print server on an HP Laserjet 2100M) and simultaneously keep it active on my Ethernet port (in order to print to a Brother HL 2700CN networked through my router)?
Nothing I have read gives me to believe I can have Appletalk active on more than one network port. If that is the case, my second question would be:
I there some other way to print to either printer on the network without having to turn off Appletalk manually on the ports not being used?
    Here's the configuration I'm facing
    G4 Quicksilver 10.3.9
HP Laserjet 2100M with wireless Belkin DP-311P print server
Brother HL-2700CN wired to Belkin Wireless-G router
I would appreciate any help on this, even if it's the simple response, "No, you can't print to both without manually de/activating Appletalk."

for file sharing between computers running 10.4.x and 10.3.x.
actually, not for that either. 10.4 has dropped support for AppleTalk-only File Sharing to make way for Intel Macs and their protocols. 10.4 does still support AppleTalk printing.
AppleTalk would be required to print to older Apple LaserWriters that do not support LPD/LPR printing. In all but two cases, the printers have no Ethernet port, so a Bridge device or software would be required:
    Personal LaserWriter NTR
    Personal LaserWriter 320
    LaserWriter Select 310
    LaserWriter Select 360
    LaserWriter 4/600 PS
    LaserWriter IIf
    LaserWriter IIg (Ethernet)
    LaserWriter Pro 600
    LaserWriter Pro 630 (Ethernet)
Some third-party wireless Access points do not pass AppleTalk packets at all, and cannot be used to print to that class of older LaserWriters.
In 10.3.9 and previous, AppleTalk may still be used for File Sharing with older Macs.

  • Multiple network location servers possible?

As we all know the network location server is an important part of any Direct Access deployment to ensure that DA clients can know whether they are connected directly to the internal LAN or connecting from external via DA.
I have seen discussion about deploying the network location server (simple blank IIS/Apache web site) in an NLB  configuration but is there any way to have multiple network location servers for high availability reasons? During the DA configuration
process you can only input a single dns record for the NLS so it does not appear possible. Has anyone found a way to do this?

    Hi,
Yes it's a good practice to have NLB in high-availability. So a single FQDN with NLB or HLB as high-availability solution. Major problem is when DirectAccess clients connected on LAN cannot join the Network Location server. They consider they are connected
on Internet not on LAN and try to activate DirectAccess. In such situation, If users can disable DirectAccess (so no force tunneling) they can solve the problem. Once NLS is back online, computer automatically change the firewall profile to domain.

  • Sun Cluster with Netapps - iSCSI quorum and network port

I am proposing Sun cluster with Netapps 3020C.
    May I know
    1) OS is Solaris 9. The SUN OSP says that we need to obtain an iSCSI license from Netapps. Is this the iSCSI initiator software for Solaris 9 to talk to the NAS quorum? Or do I need to purchased a 3rd party iSCSI initiator ?
    2) We provide 2 network ports for the Netapps private NAS LAN. Is it a must to cater another dedicated network port for the iSCSI communication with the quorum?
    3) If we need purchase a 3rd party iSCSI initiator, where can we get this? I have checked Qlogic and Cisco, they are both not suitable for my solution.
    Appreciate your help

    Hi,
    1) OS is Solaris 9. The SUN OSP says that we need to
obtain an iSCSI license from Netapps. Is this the
iSCSI initiator software for Solaris 9 to talk to the
NAS quorum? Or do I need to purchased a 3rd party
iSCSI initiator ?Have a look at http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-7957/6mn8834r2?a=view
I read the "Requirements When Configuring NAS Devices as Quorum Devices"
section as this is the license for the iSCSI inititator software.
So you need to enable iSCSI on the netapps box and need to install a package from netapps (NTAPclnas) on the cluster nodes.
    2) We provide 2 network ports for the Netapps
private NAS LAN. Is it a must to cater another
dedicated network port for the iSCSI communication
    with the quorum?Have a look at http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-0580/6n30eahcc?a=view#ch4_quorum-9
    I don't read such a requirement there.

where can we get this? I have checked Qlogic and
