Multiple Personal Domains on MobileMe

Thinking about getting Mobile Me but between my wife and I we have four web-sites all with their own domain names.
I know that MobileMe definitely supports having one personal domain name and multiple sites but does it support multiple sites with different personal domain names and if so, how?
Many thanks!

Welcome to the discussions. Yes, but on an Individual MobileMe account, only one domain can be configured via CNAME. The other domains have to be configured as "web forwarding" (with or without masking.) More details here:
http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Domains.html
A MobileMe *Family Pack's* members could each have a domain configured via CNAME:

  • Multiple Personal Domains published to MobileMe?

I have a MobileMe Family account. Two of the users belong to me (one personal and one for business). Is it possible to create 2 personal domains in iWeb? Can't seem to be able to change the MobileMe account in iWeb unless I go to the main Apple System Preferences....and even doing that won't help me to publish to two individual personal domains. I really do like MobileMe and anything to keep me from having to subscribe to another hosting service would be great.

If you have an MME Family Pack then it is very easy to have 2 domain names linked to 2 accounts. That is the whole point of the Family Pack - you can have a CNAME set up for the one main account and 4 sub accounts.
Set up your main account and log into it and then set up your sub accounts from the main account. Under System Preferences, log out of the main account and then log into your sub account by entering the username and password and go to personal domain and enter this. Once you have done this stay logged into the account and open iWeb and publish the site that you want to publish. Just set up the domain name in the second account in exactly the same way as the first - log in and enter the personal domain and then publish form iWeb to it.
To make it even easier, what you can always do is create 2 new users on your computer and link 2 of your MobileMe accounts to the users, so when you switch user your get to the correct MME account without logging in and out under System Preferences.

  • How do you post multiple personal domains to .Mac sub accounts?

I was assured by .Mac tech support that .Mac will host a different personal domain on each of five accounts of a family pak. Now I discover that iWeb is a one-trick pony. I'm stunned that I can't create separate sites and upload them individually. I've never heard of an application that can only create one document!
And I can't even find the data for that ONE document; ~/Library/Application/Domain.sites2 is only 20kb no matter how many photos you've added to the site.
So I guess I have two questions: How do you post multiple domains to sub accounts?
    And, where's my data?

The tilde (~/Library/etc.) indicates home folder; that is where I was looking. I did a Spotlite search and discovered that in attempting to backup my data, I'd moved it; Spotlite found it and it was all intact.
Then I discovered I could duplicate Domain.sites2, change the names to Domain de.sites2, and Domain daru.sites2, open daru's site and delete de's, then open de's and delete daru's, and I had two separate sites that I presume I'll be able to upload separately. Once I get .Mac sub groups created...
Seems like a stupid bit of programming; must have hired some windows guys to code it...
Problem I'm having now is, .Mac won't let me set up a sub account in my wife's name because she already has a .Mac ID and a trial account because she joined a .Mac group. Awaiting a reply rom .Mac tech support.
So my question isn't quite answered yet, but it does look like I can post several sites without having to set up separate user accounts. Seems like this could be explained in the help file in plain English...

  • Personal domain on MobileMe, repetitive URL addresses and personal site?

Okay, this may be two topics, but I don't know how to describe it briefly enough for the subject line to get it all across. At least not at the end of a long day.
I have a website I designed and published via iWeb '09 promoting my home motorcycle service. I have the domain name registered through GoDaddy.com. I followed the instructions posted in another thread linked to GoDaddy's MobileMe instructions, and also used MobileMe's personal domain instructions to the point where it appears to work, but I still feel like I'm doing something wrong. The domain name is below.
    www.bltmoto.com
However, when you type this into a browser, it forwards to my PERSONAL site which is also in the same iWeb file, which is basically just a blog and some pictures. It takes you to:
    http://www.bltmoto.com/crat/HQ.html
...when I'm trying to get it to bring up this content:
    http://www.bltmoto.com/BLTMotoService/Home.html
I was under the assumption that my personal site would remain located within the web.me.com domain, but it appears not if it's part of the same iWeb file. Is this correct? So hypothetically, if I was to get a domain name for my personal site, like www.chrisratledge.com, or whatever, could I get it to work independently of my moto service site within the same iWeb file? Would I have to duplicate the file and delete one of the other ones to keep them separate, or would that not work either? In other words, in iWeb, when you choose "New Site," will it always be like a subdomain (don't know if I'm using that nomenclature correctly) on your account?
Also, is there a way to truncate my URLs for these sites? Like when I type in www.bltmoto.com, it would exist and displays in the URL field of the browser as:
    http://www.bltmoto.com/Home.html
    instead of:
    http://www.bltmoto.com/BLTMotoService/Home.html
Also, the page names in iWeb I designate also appear directly as typed in the URL address line and at the top of the browser title bar. Is there a way in iWeb to change this? I'd like the Title bar to display the company name and page info, such as:
    "BLT Moto Service Home"
    instead of just
    "Home"
Is there a way to change or modify this within iWeb, or is this strictly a HTML code modification?
I know this is a lot and hopefully I've been clear enough in my description, please help if you can. Thank you

...the site that you have published first will be connected to your domain name....If the first site is published first, then this will be the first linked to your domain name and will come up.
Okay, I figured that may be the case for that issue, shortly after I asked the question, just didn't mess with the order to verify it.
Basically, iWeb site structure is to produce a url that is http://www.domain.com/sitename/pagename. The only way that you can change this if you are publishing to MME is to change the way in which you forward your domain name - change CNAME to ordinary web forwarding and then your url will be http://www.domain.com for every single page of your site. The only draw back to this is that individual pages of your site cannot be bookmarked, just the whole site.
Hmm, so I think I see what you're saying about the page structure, so no matter what I do while publishing and hosting on MME, the only way to have my domain name stay "www.bltmoto.com" is to change the CNAME setting on GoDaddy to "ordinary web forwarding" - I have no idea what that is or how to do it - but then every single site and page I publish will only have the "www.bltmoto.com" URL?
Your only other option is to purchase a hosting account from GoDaddy and upload your site directly - if you do this you can upload just the contents of your site folder rather than the whole folder itself and this will then give you the domain name www.domain.com/pagename. RSS feed will not work though, as you have broken iWeb's site structure and I see that you do use this so it might not be a viable option for you.
So is there no way to create separate websites with separate domains using iWeb, and publish them to other MME accounts or keep them separate? My dad wants me to put together a site for him that he would publish and host on his MME account. Does this mean I'd have to create it on his machine, or could I create a new iWeb file for his site and publish it to his account from my computer? Suddenly the convenience appeal of the marketed ability to host personal domain names on MME doesn't seem convenient at all.
I think maybe you addressed this on my other questions in another thread...

  • Uploading different websites to multiple personal domains

I look after some simple websites for organisations I am involved with as well as my business one.
I have begun to use iwebsites as the tool to let me work on them seperatly but I need some advice on uploading them.
I use the publish button on iweb to upload my business site as that is the personal domain linked to my .mac account, but is there a way to do the same for the others or do I have to use something like classic ftp for them?

    kiwedog62:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. if your sites are contained all in one domain file you might want to separate them into their own domain.sites2 file to make editing and publishing easier.
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want. It works very well for me.

  • Personal Domain and MobileMe

Once I changed my settings to my Personal Domain, I could no longer post my second MobileMe site. Can I use a Personal Domain and have more than one MobileMe site?

This is incorrect. You can only use the personal domain name option with CNAME forwarding ONCE for every MobileMe account. If you want other sites, then you can publish as many as you want and they will have the url http://web.me.com/username/sitename. If you want to use domain names with these sites, then you can, but you have to use ordinary masked or unmasked web forwarding so that your domain is forwarded to web.me.com/username/sitename.
Also, why do you persist in placing links that don't work? Try clicking on your WordPress link and it comes up every time with server not found.

  • Personal domain at mobileme

I succeeded in directing my personal domain to be hosted with Mobileme.
However, when I access my site, my address is duplicated. For instance, it is reading as follows: "www.example.com/www.example.com/Welcome.html" when it should only be "www.example.com/Welcome.html.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.

"www.example.com/www.example.com/Welcome.html" when it should only be "www.example.com/Welcome.html.
The second www.example.com is your iWeb Site name. You typed it yourself. You can change it in something else.
    it should only be
    Not according to iWeb.
It's always a good idea to understand the concept of Site in iWeb. [From my article|http://iweb.dailynews.webege.com/Howto_publish_to_a_subdomain_withiWeb.html] :
    *The concepts of iWeb Sites*
+iWeb uses the concept of Sites. A Site contains all the pages, images, movies and everthing else you drop on the canvas. It’s a selfcontained set of files and folders.+
+You create one or more Sites in iWeb.+
+When iWeb publishes these Sites it creates an index.html file in the root of the server. And it also creates one in each Sites folder.+
+The index.html has a refresh meta tag in the HEAD of the HTML page.+
+When you use the shortest URL possible, or use a URL without a pagename, the index.html file redirects (refreshes) as follows :+
+http://www.yourdomain.com/ redirects to the first page in the first Site.+
+http://www.yourdomain.com/Sitename/ redirects to the first page in that Site.+
+When you move a page to the top in a iWeb Site, iWeb creates new index.html files to redirect to that page.+
+Also, when you change the order of the Sites, iWeb creates a new index.html file to redirect to the first page in the Site that's now the first Site in your iWeb project.+
+This way it is not neccessary to rename a page to index.html when you make that page the default page of a Site.+
+The concept of Sites is the reason why iWeb doesn't publish its pages directly in the root of the server.+
+You can change the Site name but you cannot delete it. If you don't like the Site name type other characters.+
The alternative is to publish to a folder and put the CONTENT of tha folder in the root of the server. In this case the iDisk > Web > Sites folder.
Note that it has some drawbacks. Noticeably the RSS feeds won't work.

  • Using Multiple "Personal Domains"

I have several different websites that I have created in my iWeb 08. I currently have all of them published under the same domain file. I have purchased and use 3 different domains www.heavensdooronline.com, www.dalevillechristian.org, and www.jcdcyouth.com that are all re-directed to the corresponding iWeb website that I've created for them. I would like to know if I can use the "personal Domains" and have each of the 3 different websites automatically re-direct without having to "cloak" them so that people don't see a HUGE url, as in the past. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
    Mark

    Mark:
You can only have one site setup via the .Mac's setup option in the iWeb->File->Setup Personal Domain menu option. For the other two you'll need to have domain name forwarding established by the name provider. I think it would be best to separate the three sites into their own domain files.
With each of the three having a separate domain name this will lessen thee chance of anything getting messed up as could happen if all three sites were in the same domain.sites2 file. You might want to do some editing on a site but not publish right away. With separate files you can do that.
Also be sure to keep a frequent backup copy of the domain.sites file(s) by using Varkgirl's Automator application. You can get it Varkgirl's iWeb Tips and Tricks site.

  • Multiple Personal Domains

    Hello All,
I've had no problems so far with iWeb 08, which seems like a rarity around here. Here's my question:
I have a site (http://www.nobscotniblets.com) which is hosted by Apple (web.mac.com). My question is, if I have a new personal domain, can I build a new site with my iWeb 08 and have it show up as my preferred www.url.com, not as a web.mac.com address?
So I guess, in a nutshell, can I have more than one personal domain working at the same time?
If so, how do I go about this?
    Much appreciated.

  • Ability to Receive email@ my personal domain through MobileMe

I asked my current web hosting service about switching over to have Apple host my domain 2pi.ca so that I could use iWeb at its full power on my website. I was told that I'd loose my two email accounts which currently work @2pi.ca. Does that have to be the case right now with MobileMe?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you drop your current hosting service then you will drop the other services they provide and I assume your two email addresses are included.
If your site is a commercial or ecommerce site I would not change your host for MobileMe. It's slower, more unreliable (due to the high server side overhead software to support the social networking aspects of MobileMe), there's no ear to ear customer support and it's against the Terms of Use for MobileMe accounts (although I've not heard of any site getting bumped off for that reason).
You could keep the current account to use the email and still host the site on MMe.
    Happy New Year

  • IWeb hanging at logging into MobileMe (Personal Domain Problem)

I've searched and searched for an answer to my problem all over the internet and these forums and keep coming up blank.
Apologies if the answer is somewhere and I've missed it.
It could be a wider problem with my MobileMe, but iWeb is where it first occurred.
I recently had my personal website forwarding to my MobileMe site, and was using the MobileMe webspace to host my site. I had set my personal domain (in MobileMe) to the personal website. Why I did this I'm not sure, as I wasn't actually using the external webspace, merely forwarding it to my MobileMe site.
However I then decided I wanted to create a new site and this is where the problems began to occur. When I tried to publish the new site, it seemingly tried to publish to personaldomain/new_website name/ which obviously didn't exist as there was no external webspace there.
I then decided to reset everything, get rid of the personal domain setting within MobileMe and just merely forward my external web addresses to my Me sites. Upon deleting my Personal Domain from the mobileme settings page and logging into iWeb, the website name next to my username was still my external website address, and iWeb seemed to think it was all still published (which it was, as when I went to my web.me.com/etc, my website was there) However I wanted to start from scratch and republish everything, so I deleted all the web/sites section from my idisk, and hoped I could republish everything (this could have been a mistake!)
Now when I try to publish, iWeb just hangs at logging into MobileMe and won't publish anything. iPhoto also won't upload new photo albums and neither will aperture. They just hang at syncing galleries.
I'm completely at a loss as to how to proceed. I've deleted preferences from iweb and also logged out of mobileme, put a fake name in and logged back in again (to clear the cache I think) and still iweb hangs. I've even tried creating a new user account and logging in there and still it hangs.
Apologies for the essay of a post, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Just some suggestions as to where to go would be helpful. I'm wondering if it's something to do with Keychains? I had a brief look in there but it all went over my head. This is the first problem I've ever had with my new mac, and being from a PC background, don't really know where to look to fix things.
Thanks in advance to people who even get through reading the entire post!

If stephen's suggestion doesn't help you might consider the following:

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
Here is what fixed it. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.
Although for a different MMe issue it will clear out the MMe login info so you can enter everything anew and give it a fresh start.

  • Personal Domain changed but iWeb still remains with the old one

    Hi,
recently I changed my Personal Domain on MobileMe. Unfortunately iWeb still remains with the old one: Even if I create a new iWeb-Domain the problem occurs. I also checked whether this is a local iMac problem or not but it isn´t unless I have the same issue with my MacBook Air using the same MobileMe Account. Every time I open iWeb the 'Settings Page' shows the old personal domain name (displayed in brackets behind the MobilMe Account information). At MobilMe the new Personal Domain name displayed as the active one.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks in advance

  • Creating the default personal domain name to iWeb from Wordpress.

I have a wordpress blog (that I do not want to use) that also serves as the administrator for my domain name and I am trying to get iWeb to be the default home page and not the Wordpress blog. I have changed [edited in Custom DNS Records] the DNS protocol at Wordpress to "CNAME blog web.me.com." and also configured the personal domain in MobileMe to reflect my domain name.
So far I am not having any success with the online instructions and cannot seem to find any further information on how to make iWeb the home page.
Am I missing some steps here?
Anyone have any insight into setting up iWeb with a personal domain, specificially with Wordpress as the domain administrator?
    Thank you!

The first step is to configure your personal domain name in MobileMe which you have done.
You then need to go and alter your DNS records and what you want to do is create a new CNAME and direct this to web.me.com and that is it.  Your domain name will be your alias and web.me.com will be your host and as long as your site is published to MobileMe, then your domain name should point to your host at MobileMe.
I don't know why you have blog in there under your CNAME?  All you need is a new CNAME that points to web.me.com and nothing else and that should work.
Also, rather than changing back to MobileMe from WordPress, why not invest your time and energies into finding a new and alternative hosting company?  You don't have long with MobileMe and you do realise that it will be gone at the end of June, so perhaps now would be a good time to look at the alternatives?
