Multiple POP accounts in Safari

I want to switch to Safari as my mail program but I have multiple POP accounts.
Each email has its own password. How can I get them all onto Safari?
It keeps telling me a already have a POP account when I try to enter another email address.

I have multiple POP accounts in Apple's Mail program and each one works fine. So I'm not quite sure what is happening when you enter additional data for a new account.
To create a new account you select the + sign in the accounts tab in Mail's preferences. Once you do this, it will display a blank sheet for you to fill in your data for the next account. The data for the new account should be unique and match the account information set up with your ISP. The e-mail address cannot be duplicated. In other words, you can't have the same e-mail address for multiple accounts, even if the password is different.

Mail hang when getting email from multiple POP accounts

I'm posting this issue again.
Mail hangs while getting new mail from multiple POP accounts almost every time. When it does, only Force Quit can quit it.
The following DID NOT fix the hang:
- Reconstructing all mail boxes
- Exporting, deleting and reimporting all mail boxes
- Disabling all rules
- Deleting anti-spam history
- Deleting all emails from all mail boxes
Testing each POP account individually while putty the other two offline works fine.
I also noticed that sometimes the new mail counter in Inbox displays 2-4 new messages while there is no new ones. Switching boxes/folders and back to Inbox fixes it.
The POP accounts are:
One plain text POP
One secure POP
One GMail POP
Can anyone help?

I did try to clear the junk mail preferences
The Junk Mail preferences cannot be “cleared”. What do you mean?
it crashes almost every single time.
It doesn’t crash (i.e. quit unexpectedly). It freezes (i.e. becomes unresponsive), right?
I transfered my data to a Mac Mini. I had the same exact problem on it too!
so it seems it has nothing to do with the OS plugins or the setup I have.
Well, that would depend on what exactly does “I transfered my data” mean...
Try first disabling all the rules in Preferences > Rules AND the junk filter in Preferences > Junk Mail. If the problem persists, proceed as follows.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:

After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
4. Move any “IMAP-”, “Mac-”, or “Exchange-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all the mail stored there to be lost.
5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

Multiple POP accounts

I am trying to switch my earthlink email accounts to Safari from Netscape.
I have multiple mailboxes with separate passwords and they are all POP.
Import couldn't find my mozilla info to transfer the mailboxes so I decided to add the accounts manually. After adding the first account, Safari won't let me add another POP account. Any suggestions?

I click 'Accounts' in the preference pane, then the '+' sign, then under general information I select 'POP', type in the description, my full name, and then the email address.
Pressing the continue button shows a red arrow pointing left to the...oh...
it's a repeat account description. I had the same name as the default, and when I changed it it works...never mind...

Mail hang with multiple pop accounts and invalid new mail counter

More than a year ago, I migrated all email accounts from Outlook to Apple Mail using O2M application. I have 2 pop accounts and gmail account. Everything worked fine for a few month but then Mail started to hang during message receiving. It did so very often (4/5 times). When it does, nothing will revive it except a "force quit".
I tried to fetch email from each account individually, that worked well every time. After I was sure that it has to do with getting new mail simultaneously, I tried everything to fix it. I tried to reconstruct all the mail boxes, I tried using only 2 boxes with all combinations (1 pop 1 gmail, 2 pop, etc) but nothing worked.
I even tried to export all my mail boxes, then delete everything from Mail then reimport them with no luck.
In addition, a couple of months later, my "Inbox" new mail counter started to sometimes displaying the wrong new mail count. It displays 2-4 new messages while there is none. In order to be sure, I created a smart mail box to have only new mail and it had none. By simply switching to any other folder then returning back to Inbox solves the problem.
Can any one help?

Make absolutely sure that your email addresses and configuration are correct. In nearly every case I've encountered, this is the problem.
If you've confirmed this, make sure you're configured properly on your webmail account, if you have one. Webmail is something like ATT, the source of your internet.
If you're still flummoxed, play hardball. Make sure you have all your current account info and passwords, and delete them in Mail/Preferences/Accounts. Then, reenter them one by one until they're perfect. This makes sure your settings are consistent and correct.

Setting up mail to retrieve from multiple POP accounts? Is it possible?

I am turned down when trying to add a second POP account to mail. Any advice? Is it even possible?

Welcome to the Discussions.
If truly separate POP email addresses, then the Username for each will either be the portion of the email address in front of the "@", or the entire email address, depending on the protocol of the provider. I suspect you are trying to enter the same Username in the setup for each?

Managing Mail from multiple POP accounts across two Macs

Hi Folks,
My Mail app is configured to download POP mail from my Gmail, Yahoo, and personal domain accounts, so that I can read it all in one place, and have a copy of messages on my computer.
I tried .Mac for a while last year, but because these are all POP accounts, the synchronization essentially meant that the same messages were downloaded to each Mac I used. At least, that's how it worked for me.
I now have to reconfigure one of my Macs, a PowerBook, due to a hard drive crash. And I'm thinking: If I want to use Mail on my Powerbook and my MacBook, would I essentially accomplish the same thing as .Mac synchronization by making sure each copy of Mail is configured to leave my messages (Gmail, Yahoo, personal) on the server? Wouldn't I then just have the same messages downloaded to each machine whenever I logged into Mail?
Just trying to wrap my head around the most efficient way to set this up. This approach wouldn't exactly be efficient, but it seems to me the most thorough without having IMAP available, and would allow me to read and respond to messages regardless of the computer I'm using at any given time. Does this make sense? Thanks for any insight.

Yes: this is exactly how I do it, except that I set Mail on each machine to delete messages from the server after a week. You do this each account, in the 'Advanced' tab, and you have the choice of after 1 day, 1 week, 1 month or when messages are removed from the inbox. This prevent you clogging up the server, and as long as you use each machine within the specified period you will get all your messages downloaded to each one. Of course on one machine you won't know if a message has been read or answered on another, nor will you have a record of sent messages on other machines unless you Bcc the answers to yourself.
I have it set up to Bcc automatically (using QuicKeys but you could do it manually of course) so that each machine sends to an email address specific to that machine, from which it is forwarded to the main account: then using a rule that if a message comes from the machine it was sent on it's deleted, otherwise it's moved to the 'Sent' folder.

Multiple POP accounts: Can I set up separate mail windows

New mac user. I was able to switch identities using Outlook Express on my PC so that multiple users' mail were not downloaded when one user logged on. My desire is to not see other people's email, nor they mine. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Instead of switching identities in Mail, you do it at the OS X level i.e. create multiple accounts on your computer and use Fast User Switching. Each user of your computer then has their own separate environment for all applications including Mail.

Mail timing out when checking multiple POP accounts

I recently changed web hosting company. I set up four email accounts but when checking I get timeouts. If I reduce accounts to one or two then no timeouts. This didn't happen with the previous hosting co. The new Hosting techies say it's a known problem with OSX Mail and suggested I switch to Eudora (which I like but haven't used for years and don't want to start again). I've STF but can't find any special answers. Question is whether it's a Mail problem or at the Web Host incoming mail server. If it's a Mail problem is there a way to adjust timing, similar to Euroda's advanced options?

Some service providers don't allow multiple simultaneous connections from the same IP address. If that's the problem, it could be considered Mail's fault only in the sense that Mail does not allow the user to set a limit on the number of accounts that should be checked simultaneously.

Mail app and multiple pop accounts

I've just found a bug in the mail app.
I tried to create a second mail account on the Touch. It all went well and saved fine, but when I went to look at my list of mail accounts they were all the same as the one I had just created. It seems that the account I just created overwrote my previous account details. the slots were still there but all with the same name.
If like me you have a stupid service provider and they won't allow smtp sending of mail from a third party mail provider then you'll need to set up 2 accounts. one for use at home, and one for use when hooking into a wifi point. the trouble is you can't. If anyone else has had this problem and knows of a work around then let me know.

There is a reason for this and it is called SPAM. Open Relay mail servers are not a good thing:

Mail with Multiple POP & Platform

I use multiple pop accounts and multiple platforms to access those accounts. If I access an email from another account (Windows Outlook) I will never see they message appear in my Mac Mail even though it is still on the pop server. How can I get Mail to show want is in that account? It ignors everything that Outlook grabs weather its read or not.

This problem with Gmail is "normal" and there is nothing you can do about it. Gmail POP access does not work as a normal POP mail server would:
1. Messages downloaded by any POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server, and no longer available to either the same or any other mail client.
2. To make already downloaded Gmail messages available for POP access again, you must log into your Gmail account with a web browser and re-enable POP downloading for all your messages, which will cause everything (and I mean everything) still there to be downloaded again.
3. Any "Remove copy from server" account settings in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on the server. The reason is that, after being downloaded, those messages are no longer available to any mail client, not even to the same client that has just downloaded them, not even for deleting them or checking whether they are still there.
4. Messages created and sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were incoming messages. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent -- as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one mail client, that is.
5. Messages created and sent using a POP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in 4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. They would, however, be downloaded if Gmail settings were changed as described in 2 above.
Does the problem also happen with your other POP accounts as well?

Mail 3.6 downloads multiple copies of emails from my pop account

Since I auto-upgraded to Mail 3.6, Mail is downloading multiple copies of email from my pop mail account. This did not happen before and I haven't changed any of the mail settings. I have read discussions about a similar problem with an earlier version of Mail and the solution seemed to be deleting some file linked to Mail so it could be rebuilt, but I can't find such a file on my system that I could try deleting.
It may matter that I am not 'strictly' supposed to be using os x 10.5.8 on my powerbook G4 (according to what is said on the packet).
Help please!

I was having slightly different issues than the people above - only one of my two POP accounts was being constantly picked up, and I had hundreds of versions of each email... strangely, even after I went to the (Yahoo) account and deleted all the emails out of there. Your solution worked perfectly.

Multiple user accounts unable to use Safari

Hi All,
Now that Safari 4 is installed, other than my administrator account, my multiple user accounts seem unable to access Safari. I am unable to access the Safari preferences, (greyed-out), so I can't change parental controls that seem locked. When prompted by Safari to load each site i see no change and no ability to get to the site I just loaded.
Any thoughts?

Using Safari 4.0 I just tried using the repair permissions in the DIsk Utility and still cannot find the Safari.app in my other user accounts. It was also missing in my admin account but after running the above repair permissions utility it reappeared. I can now only see the app in my admin Applications folder. In my other User accounts I can see only a grey ? mark. I move the ? into the trash and when I try to find the Safari.app using Finder it cannot find the .app. I am getting very frustrated. Please assist

How do I sync multiple email accounts on ipad

So I'm now, dubiously, the lucky owner of iPad mini with up to date software and iMac with latest software.
It now seems apple have decided they don't want me to use more than one email account and so have stopped me being able to sync them ? Even for apple this is breathtaking in its arrogance and fascistic nature...
Anyone any ideas?

By synchronize, I suspect you mean that reading or deleting a message on one device will result it its being read or deleted on the other device. If so, this is only possible for IMAP accounts or exchange accounts. This is not an iPad limitation but a limitation in the email system protocols. iCloud mail is an IMAP system; so, iCloud email will synchronize automatically. There could be a slight delay in this, but it works.
Many email systems (Comcast may be one of the more common) are POP accounts. Those won't sychronize at all regardless of device used.
If by synchronize you mean that you can have the account on multiple devices and that's all; no problem regardless of the system. But, remember that you will download all your POP messages even if you have read and deleted them on another device. That can be a pain.

How can I use multiple icloud Accounts with Fotos?

Yesterday, my wife and I started using the new App "Fotos" on OSX and iOS.
What I can't figure out, and where I would like to get some insight and help, is how we should use our icloud Accounts.
How it is right now:
- Wife (MacBook and iPhone)
Has her own icloud-Account ([email protected]) for Backup (iOS) and Fotosync, Keychainsync, Bookmarks. 20GB iCloud-Account (18GB free).
- Husband (MacBook, Mac Mini and iPhone and iPad)
Has his own icloud-Account ([email protected]) for Backup (iOS) and Fotosync, Keychainsync, Bookmarks. 20GB iCloud Account (10 GB free).
- Husband has about 400 GB of Photos from over 10 Years on Mac Mini
How I want it to be:
- Husband
upgrades to at least the 500GB Account, to use for all 400GB of Photos and Backup, Keychainsync, Bookmarks.
- Wife
Has her own Account ([email protected]) for Keychain and Bookmark, but uses [email protected] on MacBook and iPhone for Backup an Fotosync, so that all Photos are stored in a single one family "container". All Photos in one Place without being able to forget to put them there.
I don't see, how I can accomplish that, since only one "real" icloud account seems to be possible in iOS, so that if i put my account in her iPhone I would get the Photo and Backup I want, but she would not be able to sync her own bookmarks an keychain any more.
Any thought on how to resolve this?
Am I missing something?

Yes, you could have multiple iCloud accounts for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Safari, Notes, and Find My iPhone, but only one primary iCloud account for Photo Stream, Documents & Data, and Storage & Backup.

Multiple iTunes Accounts on the Same Computer

iTunes states that you can have multiple iTunes accounts on the same computer. But when I attempt to put in a new user account (for my wife so she can have her own music library) my own iTunes account pops up when I go to load iTunes while in her user account. And if I create any account that is NOT an 'Admistrator' account iTunes refuses to install itself as the "user does not have the privileges - consult your Administrator". So I am lost as to what I need to do to create separate iTunes accounts where each person has their own iTunes library and thus their own music. Perplexed...
