Multiple problems...can't install itunes for starters

I have been having a problem with itunes syncing with my ipod touch. Also, music and movie files are disappearing from my library without cause. My user name and password keeps giving me a "disabled for security reasons" error message (had to log in as my sister in order to post this). Now, my ipod touch will not turn on...it wants me to connect it to itunes. I hooked it up to my computer today (a Mac) and itunes cannot be found. I redownloaded itunes to my computer and the window pops up to install (has the itunes.mpkg and readbeforeinstalling files). I click on the itunes.mpkg file and go through the steps and itunes installs successfully. The problem is I cannot find itunes on my computer once the install is complete. I tried to install again and a window pops up showing me the previous install. I click on it and it pulls up the same install file containing the itunes.mpkg and readbeforeinstalling files as if it were not already installed.
I can't access itunes or find it on my computer, can't turn on my ipod because it wants to connect to itunes, can't log in because my user id has been disabled for some reason, and some of my content that I've paid for has disappeared. My sister won't let me use her computer because she doesn't want to load another itunes library on it. Her own library is pretty large and takes up quite a bit of space as it is.
Please help me!!!

UPDATE: Okay, I don't know what I did, but iTunes finally popped up and it said my ipod needed to be restored. I did that and it FINALLY synced up and most of my library was able to be placed back on to my ipod. Some of my content, however, is still missing.
While my ipod was syncing, I kept getting occassional error messages telling me that certain files could not be found and therefore was not copied on to my ipod. A couple of music videos and a movie...all things that I have paid for. There is no reason, I can see, that these files should be lost.
I also still can't log in to iTunes as myself. Any ideas? Anyone???

I've been having the same issues for the past year and a half. I've spent 6-8months trying to figure it out. Went to various Itunes stores with pictures on my Iphone per each step so I could relay all information that I'd come across and the personnel were less than helpful, after conversations that would sometimes last an hour between myself, employees and managers they always came back to "simply uninstall then reinstall" when I told them for the thousanth time that I've done that multiple times and my errors are happening while trying to reinstall it they act stumped and say "well then I'm not sure, I'll give you a call if I figure it out" and disappear. I've been very disatisfied at the lack of support from Apple and if Android to piece together a reletively reliable phone I'd switch to them in a heartbeat. I'll follow this question incase someone can answer this, but I don't have much faith.
BTW, wifey has Windows 7 running on the laptop and my phone syncs just fine to that and no trouble with itunes, just mine (desktop).

I have an iPod Classic (80GB) in my car and wanted to buy an additional iPod for use in the house. The salesman assured me that the iPod Nano Touchscreen would be backward compatible with the hardware I have, but it wasn't, so the store manager kindly agreed to me swapping the unit for a brand new iPod Classic 160 GB (at the extra cost, of course).
I can remember that when I connected the iPod Touch the first time, it asked me whether I should install something, which I did. All my music was subsequently transferred to the iPod Touch. It was only when I tried it then that I discovered that it is not 100% backward compatible with my hardware.
Now that I have purchased the new 160 GB Classic, iTunes simply won't synchronize. I downloaded the latest iTunes and installed it - no change. I saw that you could make it work by checking 'Enable Disk Use' from the Summary tab. However, my iTunes does not have a 'Summary' tab, and when I checked further on Google, I found a statement on Apple Support that 'disk usage' is not supported on the iPod Touch.
I then ran 'Device sync tests' under 'Diagnostics' from the Help tab - it came up with the reply 'No iPod touch, iPhone or iPad found'. In other words, iTunes still thinks that the connected device is an iPod Touch and not an iPod Classic, despite me having installed iTunes several times.
Is there a version of iTunes that I can dowload that would recognize the iPod Classic? How can I resolve this problem? I want the same music on both of my iPods.

All I can say is make sure you are the administrator and if not right-click on the installation program and click "Run as Administrator", and delete all traces of iTunes off the computer, i.e. delete the folder C:\Program Files\ipod as you say. Make sure it is the latest version of iTunes and is for Windows Vista (not XP). Another thing to point out is to make sure your Computer is compatible with iTunes 8.2 (perhaps try installing iTunes 8.0/8.1 by searching for the link in Google).
If you have done all of that and it still does not install then I do not know what is wrong. As iTunes is one of the many applications i use 24/7 (pretty much) and I use it all the time, I would try installing it on a similar Windows Machine with a similar configuration and it works, I would reinstall Windows on your personal computer. If not, take the case further as I cannot think of anything else that could be wrong, so long as you have not edited the installation program or anything Good luck.

When I tried to update my functional itunes on Windows 7, the installer reported that a program required for the installation was not found and the install failed. Eventually it was suggested that I remove the existing itunes, which I did. The problem still exists and I now have NO functioning itunes.

it stops when the installation says :computing space requirements. Then it just says "rolling back action", "the installation was unsuccessful"
Having the installer quit at that particular moment is consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

Have you completed all windows update including service Pack1? If not, please complete all the windows update then follow steps below to re-install all over.
1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:

Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.

hello there i can't install itunes due to a problem with the windows installer package i found a page on this site (here is the link) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304405 i done every thing on it and i still haven't been able to fix the problem i have tryed the following unstalling itunes deleteing the registry keys deleteing all the temp files disableing all anit-virus software and anit-spyware. runing cc clearner downloading a new installer for itunes and windows installer and the script thing. and trying to reinstall. nothing seems to work i don't know what else to do this is the error message i get when i try to install i tunes. "there is a problem with this windows installer package.

I pulled my brains out trying to figure this bug out and I may have a solution for you.
All of it installed fine in my desktop, but a friend's laptop got the error you mentioned on quicktime, itunes, flash, officeXP and about anything else I tried to load for him.
If you look in: C:\documents and settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp there will be an iTunes install log...open it in Notepad and see if it isn't exiting with a 1619 error while running msiexec.exe
If this is the case, this fix should work for you.
Seems some configurations of XP (and possibly Vista) aren't allowing full administrator rights to the account you set up when you installed XP (even though User Editor says you do have those rights.)
I read 2 MS articles and turned off simple file sharing, then gave ownership of the entire C: drive to the administrator. Logged the admin account off, logged his "admin" account in, and then gave rights to his personal directory to his account (c:\docs and settings\<username>)
Once I did that, every install that had previously errored out performed flawlessly.

When you uninstall, the items you uninstall and the order in which you do so are particularly important:

Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.

The other day I was prompted to update itunes. I started to, and it crashed my itunes. Then I tried to uninstall itunes, so that I could turn around and re-install it again. Now I can not install itunes. I get Runtime Error! message. R6034. For the last two hours I have tried deleting itunes, moving the .dll files to the desktop, restarting the computer (more times than I can count), deleting the temp files, updating my internet explorer, using the fix it program,.....
The two messages that I am getting are:
Runtime Error! Program:c\Program Files (x86)\itunes\Tunes.exe R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the c runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
Also: Service to 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Moblie Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priviledges to start system services.

I too was getting the same message regarding R6034. After many frustrating hours I went to the iTunes support page and clicked on "install and update." When that page came up I scrolled on to "removing and reinstalling iTunes......" There they tell you what files need to be removed and what order to do it in so you can reinstall iTunes. My iTunes works now and I didn't lose any music.
About the Apple Mobile Device, well that's one of the files that has to be uninstalled. When you reinstall iTunes the Apple Mobile Device is automatically reinstalled.
Hope this works for you as it did for me. Warning: it takes about an hour to do all this.
