Multiple PWWN on single switch port

Hi,
I wanted to know, how its possible to have multiple PWWN on single switch port..??
Whats the concept behind it..
Thanks
Rajeev.

Hi Rajeev,
The concepts that you are looking for is N Port virtualization (NPV) and N-Port ID Virtualization (NPIV).
Fuurther details can be found via the following Cisco White paper
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/ps4159/ps6409/ps5989/ps9898/white_paper_c11-459263.html
Hope that helps.

Michael

  • Sending EDI To Multiple Partners Using Single Send Port in Orchestration

    Hi Guys,
I am having a scenario where i am receiving a Xml(which can be in between 11-15). I am having 150 Trading Partners with whom these datsets have to be shared. Now every Trading partner is having there own character Sets and unique numbers so i have created 150
party agreements for all the Trading partners. I am interested to use a single port. I have created an orchestration to achieve this. Below are the steps i used to create orchestration :-
    1) Receiving 11 XML from receive shape.
    2) Extracting the value of Node TSP(this value is used to know the trading partners unique number on which i am deciding to which party agreement this Xml needs to go) using xpath.
    3) I am constructing the message in construct.
3.1) Mapping  from XML To EDI.
3.2) As all 11 datasets are having different version. So i am overidding the value ISA and GS in Message Assignment(SourceName).
    4) Decide shape to decide on the value of TSP to which port it has to be send.
But according to me this is not an optimized solution. Below are reasons:-
    1) I have to create 150 branch into decide shape. As i am receiving 11 different Xml messages i need to create decide shape for all the different Xml messages.
    2) I have to create 150 different ports which are having 15 operation(depanding upon Xml we received).
Note:- I have to create 150 different Send Ports only because of Party Agreement. So is there any solution? i only want Single Send port and i can select the party Agreement in the orchestrations.

  • 802.1x multiple sessions with same LOGIN+MAC on single-host port

We have 802.1x with radius server.
c2960 configured to allow only one device per port with no Mac-Bypass and no critical auth.
From time to time user seems to get multiple authentications on single port with single mac-address.
So we get several sessions on port with the same login, mac (but different session-id).
Command "dot1x re-auth int" doesn't clear those sessions. Neither do "force-unauthorized" or "shut/noshut". Only thing that helps is reboot switch.
    Happens with different users.

  • Single Switch for multiple clusters

We currently have multiple independent RAC clusters, each with a low cost switch for the interconnect.
For example server1 and server2 is the development RAC. Server3 and server4 are the test RAC
and server5 and server6 are the production rac.
Can a single 24 port switch handle the interconnect traffic for these 3 separate RACs?
We will have a second switch for redundancy, but can the single switch handle the traffic for
    3 separate RAC clusters?
    Sincerely
    Dan Clark

Can a single 24 port switch handle the interconnect traffic for these 3 separate RACs?That depends on the number of nodes in each cluster, and the redundancy of the Interconnect.
If you are running a single cable from the HCA on the node into the switch, your switch can support 24 nodes in total. If you are running dual connections, then only 12.
Performance.. well, I doubt that it will be a problem as a 24 port switch is designed to handle 24 connections. As the Interconnect needs to be fast, this switch is not a normal switch, but one that supports higher speeds and bigger pipes like Gig ethernet or Infiniband for example.
On the latter you can use Sockets Direct Protocol (SDP) or SCSI RDMA Protocol (SRP) - which is significantly faster than UDP (which is considered the faster protocol itself in the IP suite).
In your shoes, my biggest concern would be redundancy. If that switch fails for whatever reason, 3 clusters are down. And that is IMO unacceptable. I would instead consider either a more expensive switch with inbuilt redundancy (dual CPUs, PSUs, etc), or look at using 2 switches (which is a saving of 1 switch for 3 clusters).
Remember that RAC is only as good as the h/w architecture. If that is not adequate ito redundancy (or performance), it is clearly going to be shown by RAC itself.

  • How can I write to multiple daisy-chained network serial addresses through a single COM port?

I have a VI to write to 3 PI Mercury motor controllers using daisy chained RS232 connected via a Prolific USB-to-Serial adapter. I know that it is possible to talk to the individual controllers because the PI terminal that I have recognises the addresses of multiple controllers and designates them Device 1,2,3. The VISA resource name when configuring the port just comes up as COM5 most of time, with seemingly no way to specify an address on that COM port. Occasionally the VISA resource is ASRL5::INSTR and as this is disconnected and re-connected, this address moves up a number (e.g ASRL7::INSTR). Can anybody tell me how I can configure my serial communication to allow me to individually communicate with the different devices through a single COM port?

What does the manual say about addressing? RS-232 is not multidrop, the resource name is correct, and there is no additional configuration needed. There would have be a specific write in order to address a certain controller.

  • Dot1q trunk from single switch to multiple switches

    Hi,
Hope you can help please !
I have a single switch with 6 vlans and one trunk port at the main site  This has to connect to a 3 separate locations each with its own switch with a trunked port via a microwave network.
I have run it in packet tracer using a hub as the microwave network.  It works fine in that, I just want to check it would 'actually' work or could it cause problems ?
Diagram from PT below with 3 vlans just for clarification.

First of all   'This is not a school related work' Leo Laohoo. There is no conspiracy here, calm yourself down.
We are loosing quite a few E1 circuits and they are being replaced with only a few ethernet, so we need to conserve them.
It is indeed a L2 network.  The VLANs don't need to communicate with each other and will terminate into a firewall.  I used the PC's on the left as an interface just.
I was concerned about having one trunk port connect to 3 other switches.  I wasn't sure how they would react as I've ever only used trunks point to point.
Hence why I used the hub in PT to break a single trunk into 3.  I just wasn't sure how the switches would react to this.
     Thanks !
    Mark

  • How do I set up multiple VLANs on a single switch?

I have two 3750G-24PS switches and three Huawei S2300 switches. I have configured VLANs (15 nos.) in 3750. Is it possible for me to use those three switches for all VLANs or do I have to use separate switches for each VLAN?

    Got this answer.
You can have as many as 1024 VLANs on a single switch and you need not create the same on Huawei S2300  switches. Create a VTP domain and specify one switch as server and others as transparent. All the VLANs created on server switch will get replicated to other switches.

  • Two VLANs on one switch port?

    Currently we have the following
Cat 4003 with VLAN trunking turned on to multiple switches. Each port in those exterior switches is assigned to a vlan(we have about 60 different vlans).
What I would like to do is on those exterior switches have two vlans assigned to it.
We'd like to create a single IP Phone VLAN(let's call it 999) that can span our entire enterprise and would have dhcp deployed on it.
Each port is connected to an IP phone which has a 2 port switch in them. One port to the wall, one to the pc.
The switch ports on those phones support vlan tagging
How would setup an exterior switch to access 2 vlans that connect to 2 port switch on an IP phone?

To facilitate ease of deployment, use VTP so that you can centrally create the vlans and propagate to each exterior switch. Now I believe you already do have a layer 3 engine or router that does routing between all these vlans. What switches are used on teh exterior ? This is to find out if voice vlan support is available.
In cat switches, voice vlan is created using command,
    set port auxiliaryvlan vlan
    In IOS based switches,
    int fa0/1
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk encap dot1q
    switchport trunk native vlan
    switchport voice vlan
    switchport priority cos extend 0
    or
    int fa0/1
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan
    switchport voice vlan
I am not sure about support of voice/aux vlan in 4003. We will have check your other switch models/ software versions to determine support for this command.

  • RE: Accessing multiple Env from single Client-PC

Look in the "System Management Guide" under connected environments page
    72. This will allow services in your primary environment to find
services in your connected environment. However, there is a bug
reported on this feature which is fixed in 2F4 for the HP and H1 for all
other servers. The following is from Forte:
The connected environments bug that was fixed in 2F4 is #24282. The
    problem
was in the nodemgr/name server source code and caused the following to
    occur:
Service1 is in connected envs A and B.
Client has env A as primary, B as secondary.
Envmgr A dies before the client has ever made a call to Service1.
Afer env A is gone, client makes a call to Service1 which causes Envmgr
    B to
    seg fault.
You should upgrade your node manager/env manager nodes to 2F4. The 2F2
development and runtime clients are fully compatible with 2F4 servers.

Subject: Accessing multiple Env from single Client-PC
    Hi, All!
Is there anybody has any idea to access multiple environments from
single client-PC? I have to have multiple environments because each
environment resides geographically remote node and network bandwidth,
reliability are not good enough to include all the systems into single
    environment.
Using Control Panel for doing this is not easy for those who are not
familiar with Windows. The end-user tend to use just single application
    to access all necessary services.
I could consider two option to doing this:
    1. Make some DOS batch command file to switch different environment
like, copying back/forward between environment repositories and
set up forte.ini for changing FORTE_NS_ADDRESS. After then, invoke
    proper client partition(ftexec).
    2. Duplicate necessary services among each environment.
But, these two options have many drawbacks in terms of system
    management(option 1), performance(option 2) and others.
Has anybody good idea to implement this? Any suggestion would be
    appreciated.

  • Multiple database in single server

    Hi experts,
Please tell me how to configure multiple SID with single listener.
I configured the DR setup of two databases in single server. Now the problem is, if I start one listener from orapm1(CRM), my data is replicating only for CRM, and if I am going to start my listener from oraPE2 user (DBM), error is coming u201C listener is already startu201D but DBM is not replicating with DR site.
And when I stop the listener from oraPM1, and start listener from user oraPE2(DBM), my DBM is replicating properly, I want to start both in parallel with one listener.
Right now I have only one port for both database (1527) and only one LISTENER, should I need to change the port for one server e.g DBM (primary and standby), and then change in listener files. For both side (primary and standby)
If I am correct please let me know the steps, what precautions we need to take.
And what change I need to do in listener file.
2nd) Can I work on same port for both SIDs, if yes please tell me the steps.
My CRM is working properly so I need to change in DBM part.
I am attaching listener file from both users in same server (10.11.230.12)

  • AP 802.1X switched port-authentication

    Hi,
I've setup EAP authentication (PEAP) to authenticate WLAN client on an AP.
The AP is connected to a switch where the port is not configured for 802.1X.
On this switched port I enabled, in multi-host, 802.1X to authenticate also the AP as a client, but since it's enabled I've not been able to authenticate anymore the WLAN client due to the fact that the port will not transition to Authorized
If I connect on the same port a PC using 802.1X,this is working fine..
Am I missing something to configure on the switch or AP ???
    Any suggestion are appreciated
    Regards
    Omar

    Omar,
    There's a gotcha with this...most likely a trunk issue...
Here is a snippet for EAPOL guidelines:
    Authentication Configuration Guidelines
This section provides the guidelines for configuring 802.1x authentication on the switch:
802.1x will work with other protocols, but we recommend that you use RADIUS with a remotely located authentication server.
802.1x is supported only on Ethernet ports.
Software release 7.5(1) supports two in-band management interfaces, sc0 and sc1.
802.1x authentication always uses the sc0 interface as the identifier for the authenticator when communicating with the RADIUS server.
802.1x authentication is not supported with the sc1 interface.
You cannot enable 802.1x on a trunk port until you turn off the trunking feature on that port.
You cannot enable trunking on an 802.1x port.
You cannot enable 802.1x on a dynamic port until you turn off the DVLAN feature on that port.
You cannot enable DVLAN on an 802.1x port.
You cannot enable 802.1x on a channeling port until you turn off the channeling feature on that port. You cannot enable channeling on an 802.1x port.
You cannot enable 802.1x on a switched port analyzer (SPAN) destination port. You cannot configure SPAN destination on an 802.1x port. However, you can configure an 802.1x port as a SPAN source port.
You cannot set the auxiliary VLAN to dot1p or untagged and the auxiliary VLAN should not be equal to the native VLAN on the 802.1x-enabled port.
You cannot enable the multiple-authentication option on an 802.1x-enabled auxiliary VLAN port. Enabling the multiple-host option on an 802.1x-enabled auxiliary VLAN is not recommended.
Do not assign a guest VLAN equal to an auxiliary VLAN because an 802.1x-enabled auxiliary VLAN port will not be put into the guest VLAN if the auxiliary VLAN on the port is the same as the guest VLAN.

  • Multiple sockets connected to one port

Hello I am running a LabVIEW VI that is based on the Labview TCPServer example. I am wondering what the best way to deal with multiple connections to a single port would be. For example I have a device(could be thought of as the same thing as the TCPClient vi) that connects to the server using the port number and the IP address. The communication works fine when there is only one device trying to connect to the server, the problem occurs when two devices try to connect to the server. When the first device connects all data sent shows up fine, when the second device connects, the status on the device indicates a proper connection but none of the data sent shows up on the server side. I assume that I must do something with the connection ID to distinguish between the two connections, but I was wondering if there was an example or something that deals with this issue, or if someone would like to explain how I could get the data to show up properly. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I am hoping that there is something similar to the java api where there is some way I can start a new threads to handle multiple connections on the same port. I would assume that if java has it LabVIEW would have something similar. Unfortunately I am not sure how to go about finding out how to do such a thing in LabVIEW.
The way that I assume the TCPListen.vi works is that there is some mechanism polling the specified port and ip address waiting for a request for a connection. Once a request is received the VI creates a connection ID so that the other subvi's can perform operations on the specific connection. It also looks as though the TCPListen.vi continues to listen for new connections, because the clients indicate a connection when more then one of them are run trying to connect to the same port and IP.
So my question is either, how to start a parallel process to handle the new connections, or where can I find the new connection ID (because the indicator only shows the connection id of the first client to connect). Basically I am having trouble distinguishing between the multiple connections on the same port.I would like to keep all of the clients sending data through the same port if possible. Each client identifies itself in its data message so keeping the data organized is not a problem.
I also looked at the data socket examples, mainly because the Java examples I was looking at used "Sockets". I ran into similar troubles finding a way to create distinguishable connections using DS's as well. Anyways, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Prevent hub on a 802.1x switch port

    Hi,
A 802.1x port on a switch will grant a hub access if there is a 802.1x PC connected to the hub.
Non-802.1x pc's can access the 802.1x network if they connect to the hub and spoof the mac-address of the 802.1x PC (switch port uses single-host mode).
Does anyone know how we can prevent this access ?
    Thanks,
    Gerard van Bon

Very true. I must have been in wonderland when I half way thought that one through.
I am not sure that dynamic ARP inspection would be helpful in this situation or not. If the ARP tables are built within the switch based upon DHCP snooping, the second host with the same MAC address would have to have a statically entered IP address in order to function. If it tried to obtain one via DHCP, the DHCP server would see that it had issued a specific IP address to that MAC address and would reissue the same IP address to the second host. I guess the second PC could do a NACK to the DHCPOFFER. In this case you could watch you DHCP address allocation for the particular subnet and if you have more addresses issued that you have ports, that could be an indication. Of course there are a few issues with that. Mainly, it would require a fairly static environment to do something like that.
Another problem, and this would be much easier to do from a PC standpoint, would be to setup the 802.1x authenticated PC as a NAT device and connect the second or more devices behind it. (Windows makes this pretty easy now.) If a SOHO router (ie, Linksys type device) were to support 802.1x, it could be plugged in and all devices placed behind it would be able to access the network based upon the NAT functions of the SOHO router. A user smart enough to spoof a MAC address to bypass network security will likely be aware of these methods as well.

  • Discovering MAC addresses for Switch ports

Hello and thanks for looking at my question,
My company has inherited a network which has some very poor documentation. We really have no clue, nor does the customer, what machines are connected to what switch ports.
My co-worker and I were discussing the best way to find this out with the least amount of effort, but can't agree on a single solution. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Sincerely,
    Brent

    Brent,
After you do the 'sho arp' and now have MAC to IP translation, do a 'sho mac-address table' to show MAC to port translation. Save both tables to an Excel spreadsheet and tie them together. You should be able to come up with a good cross reference table (depending upon your Excel skills).
This also gives you a switch-by-switch breakout. It's also a very helpful troubleshooting method to find rouge devices and shut down a port (for instance).
    Hope this is helpful.
    Jim
