Multiple Quizzes using Captivate 3

I am currently using Captivate 3 and I had a very large project with multiple quizzes.  Captivate was able to go through the first quiz, but every time I hit another quiz, the system would freeze.
I am looking to do multiple quizzes - does anyone know a work around????
Thanks!
Jess

Hi there
A bit of clarification if I may...
Linking to the .CP file is only the right thing to do if you constructed your links using the "Open other project" option. If you used the "Open URL or File" option, you wouldn't link to the .CP file. You would link to the .HTM page.
.CP files are project source files and you should never see them on the server.

  • Best way to achieve multiple paths with quizzes using Captivate 6?

I’m looking for the best way to achieve multiple paths and quizzes using Captivate 6.
Here is the scenario: The learner watches general slides 1 – 3 and then chooses between Path A, Path B, or both paths combined.  If they choose Path A then they watch the A portion only and take the A Quiz only. Same happens for Path B and for the two paths combined. The learner would only have to go one path to complete the course.
What I’m finding is Captivate only has one Quiz results page (even if you create two separate quizzes, it merges them). I was trying to avoid having three separate projects for the same module to keep it simple. I see if I have three separate projects I could use the Multi-SCO Packager to merge them for use on my Moodle LMS. But wait, I don't have the elearning suite, so I don't have access to the Multi-SCO Packager...
My question is: What is the best approach way to accomplish this goal? Any recommendations?

Captivate 6 has Branch Aware quizzing.  Turn on that option in Quiz Settings and then your Quiz Results page should only show results for the branch your user visits.

  • How can I have multiple quizzes in Captivate 5.5

I would like to do multiple quizzes within one module. Ideally, you would have to pass each quiz before moving on to the next section. Is that possible using Captivate 5.5?

You can have the quizzes in separate files, and call them from a main file. Or you can daisy chain the quizzes (using Open File command). Or you can use the SCORM packager. But I'm not sure if you have access to it, don't remember if it was available with CP in that version or only with the eLearning Suite.

  • Branching with Multiple Quizzes on Captivate 5

    HI,
As part of a training series of modules, I have to have an assessment that on successful completion directs to the next assessment and on failure directs to a list of tips.
The score of the second assessment would need to be separate from the second assessment. Is this possible in Captivate 5?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello,
For the moment each Captivate file can have only one Quiz, at least if you want to report to a LMS (or other solution) there will be only one Total score.
If you want the two scores to be reported, you'll need at least two files, since each assessment has to be into a file. The conditional navigation can be done with advanced actions.

  • Multiple Quizzes - Captivate 4

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is any way to create multiple quizzes in Captivate 4 in the same project file. I have a learning styles survey based quiz set up, and need to collect 3 varibles, one for auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. Then I want to display the total for each variable at the end of my quiz, having each question containing 3 answers each for the specific categories/variables. So basically is there a way to have 3 objective ID's, one representing each quiz, then having each specific question adding a specific point to that quiz ID. Then on the last slide display a total point system one for each objective ID, so the user can see which category they fit into. Or is there another way to do this, ie. keeping track of 3 answers instead of just true/false?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I don't need it published on an LMS, I just want to show the results in Captivate on another slide, after they take the quiz. For example some of the questions are:
You      are preparing a technical learning module for the next month:
You       make lots of gestures with your hands while you think.
You       draw up a diagram to help you clarify a few key ideas.
You       prepare a detailed plan of the content of the module.
You      are getting ready to write up work for the course you are taking:
You       are surprised by the pile of paper.
You       feel tired before you begin.
You       regret waiting until now to get the work done.
I want to score them as follows:
    Question
    Visual
    Auditory
    Kinesthetic
    1
    B
    C
    A
    2
    A
    C
    B
Then I want a total of each category, at the end of the quiz. Would I be able to do this is Captivate? Thanks!

  • How can I make multiple quizzes with their own results slides within one project of Captivate 7?

In one Captivate 7 project I want to create multiple quizzes with their own results slide.
Currently I have 5 quizzes that all are linked to 1 results slide.
Is there a way to give each set of questions their own results slide?
(I saw a response to a similar question for Captivate 5 from 2012, but I couldn't get much use out of is and I figured there was an easier way in Captivate 7).
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply Lilybiri!
I checked out the link and it's useful, however your other plan might work better for me:
Either you link to separate CP-files that have each their quiz, or you can show intermediate results slides (see link below), but you have to know that the score that will be transmitted to a LMS is the total score of all the quizzes.
But how exactly do I link separate CP-files?  Do I have to publish them first and then link them, or can I link them before I publish?
If you could shoot me a link or some advice I'd greatly appreciate it.  I'm finishing up a huge project that is due at the end of the day and this quiz issue is one of the last things keeping me from being finished.
    Thanks!

  • Multiple Quizzes with multiple results (in Captivate 6)

    Hey guys, Thanks for reading!
Does anyone know if it is possible to do multiple tests with multiple results in captivate 6? or if it is possible to have a pre-test with a quiz, and have separate results for each?
I've been having a play with captivate 6 and when I put a quiz in, it overrides the results slide for my pre-test.
Looking at the results slide master properties I can choose to have results for one of my quizzes but not both (even on separate slides):
It wont even let me insert another slide based on the other result.
I would like to know if multiple quizzes with multiple results is possible in Captivate 6?, or if I am simply doing something wrong?
    Thanks!

    Sorry for way-late reply...
It's really more how your LMS handles 'courses' and the terminology it uses.
Essentially, most often, a 'SCORM Package' (SCO) is a 'course'. I'd rather call each SCO a 'lesson' as, to me, 'courses' should be setup in the LMS with a series of 'Lessons'.
Regardless of the terminology, each 'SCO' is launched by the LMS and one score can be recorded for it via SCORM.
So if you need multiple final scores recorded, each of those final scores need to be in their own SCO.
A common approach is a Pre-Test SCO (or 'lesson', or 'course', whatever term), a 'Content' SCO perhaps with some interspersed scored interactions, and a Post-Test SCO...all three merged together as a 'course' (or whatever term) within the LMS.
That said, as said, it really all depends on how your LMS handles various SCOs...
    Clear as mud?

  • Using Captivate quizzes in oracle ilearning 5.0

    Hi,
I guess this question goes out to anyone familiar with BOTH oracle iLearning AND Adobe Captivate..
We are using Captivate 2 to develop e-learning content, often including quizzes / tests.
Our current LMS is Oracle iLearning 5.0, and we are experiencing some troubles trying to apply the in-built Captivate quiz for one of our courses.
    1. I have created a simple test of 7 questions in Captivate, all weighing 1 point. You need at least 6/7 points to pass the test.
    2. In total we plan to give the user 3 shots at passing the test. No clues as to whether (s)he submits the correct answer is therefore given during the test.
So far so good, this works well within iLearning (after having tried 3 times, you're not able to access the questions any longer), but here's the catch:
    * If the user gets eg. 4/7 on the first effort, he or she obviously fails (this works), and the RCO is marked as incomplete, the user still has these 4 points the next time he or she takes the test, so if the next result is 3/7 th user gets a total of 7/7 thus passing the test.
Does anyone have a clue of what's causing this error? How do we reset the score for each time? Is there anything special I need to configure on the publish settings / quiz settings in Captivate that I might have forgottten / not know of? I am not very familiar with SCORM, so perhaps there is sth I need to define in the mastery score of the SCORM manifest?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thx in advance

This is definitely something on the Captivate side, and it's possible that it is related to not having a mastery score for the learning onject (which you can set manually in ilearning if need be on the learning object properties screen.)
Do you have debugging enabled for the ilearning cmi adapter ( "?lms_debug=on" added to the end of the cmi adapter url)? If so, run the quiz a couple times like you describe and view the java console output. That might give us a clue as to what the content is doing.
Also, try it with a mastery score and see if the behavior is different.
I will also check with my contact at Adobe...

  • Multiple Pretests in Captivate 7

I'm working on a project that have several sections, after each section there's a pretest (testing knowledge). At the end I have a final exam.
Can I have multiple pretests in Captivate 7, because so far I think it only allows one pretest per project isn't it?

You don't have to add all scores of all questions to the Total score, which will be reported to the LMS.  Then the most important system quizzing variables cpInfoPercentage and cpQuizInfoPointsscored will be correct, those are reported. But some other will always take into account all the questions, like the total number of questions. That means that you'll perhaps have to create your own final score slide in the course. For the different knowledge questions you could use advanced actions to keep track of their score.
My approach would often be to create custom questions for the Knowledge questions, using standard objects, variables, widgets/interactions, and advanced (or shared) actions. And keep the default question slides only for the real quiz. Then all the system variables for the Quiz will be correct.
Or you could create only the Quiz as a separate SCORM file, to be launched from the main file, and not report the results of the main file with the knowledge quizzes. But it depends on the LMS if it allows to upload a packaged file instead of a SCO.

  • Multiple quizzes

Is there a way to have multiple quizzes within 1 captivate project? I want to insert a quiz at the end of each major section of the presentation and if the user fails a section quiz, he'll be redirected to the beginning of that section. In total, I'd like to have 3 separate quizzes for the presentation.

Each Captivate file can have only one Quiz (SCORM requirement I heard). You don't tell which version you are using, nor if you have to report to a LMS. When reporting as a SCO only the total result will be reported, that is the one that is stored in the quizzing system variables.
You can however with advanced actions calculate subtotals and display them to the user. I don't know if this post could help you:

PS: if you have CP6 or later, there is also a Pretest, but that is not what you'll want to use in this case

  • Multiple Quizzes in One Project

I'm developing a project that teaches 4 different standards,
then has a overall assessment quiz at the end of the course.
The problem I'm running into is that the "pre" quiz after
each of the four standards cannot be independently "scored" without
adding to the total score for the project. It's as if you can only
have one quiz total slide per project, and that total slide can't
    be duplicated for individual quizzes.
Any suggestions? I guess I have to break up each of the
standards into their own projects, then present the final
    assessment as another independent project.
    Thanks
    JimmyD

    Welcome to our community, JimmyD
I think you are spot on. There is currently no way within
Captivate to have multiple quizzes in the same project. I'm not
even sure if that would be possible from a technical standpoint.
But I've seen a few folks ask about it here. Because of that, I
would strongly encourage you and anyone else that sees a need for
this capability to alert the Captivate Development team by
    completing a Wish Form.

  • Using Captivate with SharePoint

I apologize in advance, the "search within this forum" function is not working, so I can't search the Captivate forum to see if this question has already been answered.
When you develop training and quizzes in Captivate, I've heard you can post the files on SharePoint, and then SharePoint will capture the student information and quiz results.  Has anyone successfully done this just using a standard SharePoint site, and not the SharePoint LMS that is offered?

    Hi Jim,
I can't seem to get a reply from anyone on the forum for the SharePoint Learning Kit, so maybe you can answer my question.
Once you set up your SharePoint site and download the SharePoint Learning Kit,  how do you activate the kit on your site?
    Thanks,

The http://slk.codeplex.com/ is designed to provide a full blown LMS inside of SharePoint and it's free.
SharePoint Learning Kit is a SCORM 2004 certified e-learning delivery  and tracking application built as a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0  solution. It works with either Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or  Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, and has the following core  features:
Supports SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, and Class Server content,  allowing users to store and manage this content in SharePoint document  libraries.
Supports learner-centric and instructor-led (assigned) workflows.
Allows assignment, tracking and grading of both e-learning  and non-e-learning content.

  • Maybe I don't understand quizzing in captivate 6?

In my project I have several quizes that I don't really want to score but I still want the user to get feedback on right or wrong answers. Also they don't have to actually answer the quiz. They can skip ahead or leave the quiz and go to another page. The last twist is the project is broken into 4 modules that would be taken by 4 different groups. Each may access the same quiz again to just test knowledge. It all appears to be working, but during testing it's been reported that once a set of questions is answered they are locked. So if a user goes throught mod 1 and take a quiz then goes into mod 2 and clicks the quiz it shows up taken. I've read a few post and they show how you can leave a quiz and come back to finish. They show how on the results page you can have a retake button. But I haven't found where I can reset the entire quiz before the person enters into it?

    Mark,
Your expectations of how this "should be able to work" are entirely reasonable.
I've been struggling with Captivate's quizzing model ever since I abandoned a custom Flash elearning shell to use Captivate in order to support iOS.
It would be nice if Captivate questions had an option like:
    "Reset question on enter slide".
In fact, if you only need HTML5 output, you can do this:  In the "On enter" slide properties box, execute the following javascript on every quiz slide "resetQuizData()".
I wish I could find the corresponding function call for swf output so I could create a widget that would do the same.
Note that all questions get reset once you show the quiz results screen.
One hack I've been playing with is to jump to the Quiz Results screen after answering every question that won't be in a "final scored quiz". For these question screens, simply set points to zero.  The trick is, use an advanced action to jump to the quiz results screen and then jump back to the page that follows the jump page.
Then in the final quiz, lock the student into the final quiz (by hiding the playbar) until the student finishes all the final quiz questions.

  • Remediate to content slide; return to question; then continue on - using Captivate 8

Using Captivate 8, I’m trying to remediate from a Knowledge Check question slide back to a content slide, then back to the KC question to try again, and then continue on from there.  On my first instance, this works fine.  However, the problems began on the second instance and continue on each instance thereafter. The settings on the KC question slides are all the same with the exception of which slide each jumps to for remediation.  I don't understand why it works the first time, but doesn’t work after that. On the second instance the question jumps back to the content slide, but then skips any subsequent slides.   Anyone had a similar experience?  Know of a workaround or what I might be doing wrong?
FYI, I'm using he E-Learning Uncovered Adobe Captivate 8 book by Elkins, Pinder, and Slade as a reference, and it clearly describes how to do this on page 183, "Remediation back to Content Slides - If students get a question wrong, you can branch back to one or several slides where the content was taught and then return them back to the quiz to retry the question.  To add remediation branching:  1) in the last attempt field on the question, set a Jump to Slide action to the first slide with the content.  2) On the last slide with the content, add a return to Quiz action on the slide's next button.  On the content slide, the Next button with the Return to Quiz action executes a Continue action under normal circumstances, but returns students to the quiz if that's where they came from."
    Please see content map below:

    Slide 2 – Content
    Slide 3 – Content
    Slide 4 – Content
    Slide 5 – Content
    Slide 6 – Content
    Slide 7 – Content
    Slide 8 – Content
Slide 9 – Knowledge Check Question -Remediates back to slide 5 if user misses two attempts to answer; slide 5 returns user to Slide 9 for one last try at question, then advances to Slide 10 (works perfectly)
Slide 11 – Content (here’s the first problem; on click, slide 11 jumps to the Knowledge Check Question on Slide 13, skipping slide 12)
    Slide 12 – Content
Slide 13 – Knowledge Check Question that remediates back to slide 11 if user misses on 2 attempts to answer; slide 11 should return user here for one last try at question, then advance to Slide 14
    Slide14 – Content
Slide 15 – Content (here’s the second problem; on click, slide 15 jumps to the Knowledge Check Question on Slide 19, skipping slides 16, 17, and 18)
    Slide 16 – Content
    Slide 17 – Content
    Slide 18 – Content

I've tried contacting Adobe, too, but with no clear resolution yet.  One suggestion they gave me was to put the slide you are remediating back to right before the question slide.  However, if you can only remediate back to the slide immediately before the question slide, that limits this functionality severely.  My solution has been to remediate to a duplicate, but separate content slide using buttons rather than quiz logic.  Cumbersome, but it works.

created by camelothome in Quizzing/LMS - View the full discussionI have the same problem with my project.  If the player detects that a quiz has begun, it sees it as in quiz scope.  Thus, when it encounters the next slide after the quiz slides that has "Return to Quiz" as the Exit Action, it instead goes to the next set of quiz questions and skips a bunch of content slides. I don't know where I read it, but I thought that if the slide was being visited for the first time, and did not come from a quiz, the "Return to Quiz" would have no effect and it would continue to the next content slide.  Perhaps I am wrong, but I thought that was the correct behavior. I've attempted to get help from Adobe, but the operator was not very helpful.  He wanted me to upload my file using wetransfer.com but gave me an invalid e-mail address.  Since that was the second attempt to get help, I gave up on Adobe Support.  Although I get the suggest above, it's a pain, especially since I don't have buttons on the content slides.  I have the player just playing with the playbar available for pauses.  So, now I have to create some sort of workaround using variables, but I don't think this is how it's supposed to work.  In fact, I'm not sure what I did yesterday that caused it to work correctly for a while, but I'm pretty sure I didn't change anything related to this.  Of course, then it stopped working. I find Adobe Captivate to be pretty buggy and it's put me way behind in delivering a product to my client.  I'm very frustrated.
