Multiple random issues after ML install.

I'm on a late 2011 MBP 17" 8GB RAM with HDMI out to VIZIO HDTV.  I also have Windows 7 installed via Bootcamp and I'm running Parallels.
1. When watching something full screen on the TV, if I move the mouse to the laptop screen, the pointer is invisible. I can click on things, but for about 45 seconds the cursor won't show up.
2. Open applications aren't always appearing in the dock.
3. If an app IS open, there is no highlight underneath anymore to indicate it's open.
4. I use Media Player Classic (WIin7) to watch videos because its interface is not as obtrusive and is easier to navigate through.  If anyone knows a great native MacOS video player that handles subtitled files, please let me know.  My problem, which didn't happen in Lion is if I'm running video on the TV, different elements on the laptop screen go haywire and start strobing and flickering.  It might be the dock, or the finder bar, or the desktop icons.  The only way to prevent this is to exit out of everything other than the video player.  This is unhelpful when I'm doing translations.
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.
SB

As of 10.8.2, none of ML updates helped. Lion 10.7.4 worked fine, but 10.7.5 update was a disaster. Now NEC warns you not to update...
We decided to give the Gefen DVI Detective a shot -- it didn't help.
Spent a few of hours on the phone with NEC support. Although they were very nice, they had no clue as to how to solve this problem -- their suggestions didn't help. And they couldn't guarantee that switching the graphics card would make it work either.
--> So we took another risk and bought a used Apple Radeon HD 5770 -- fortunately everything works now.
For such expensive pieces of equipment, I was shocked at the lack of effort on the part of both companies to address this issue.
And thank you to everyone here -- all these posts helped us a lot along this process.

  • Some issues after clean installing windows 7 pro 64bit

    Hi,
I have a couple of issues, I clean installed windows 7 pro, 64bit, (vanilla) restored my license with ABR and used system update to download all the drivers. (no issues until here) But after restarting the system, I found this issues:
    1. I have to put the bios in legacy mode for system to boot. Otherwise it gives me a "no operating system found" message. Is there any way to make a proper installation for the system to boot in UEFI and LEGACY?
    2. System update didn't install thinkvantage center. (the program that stays in the taskbar). Should this be installed manually? Or system update should have installed it?
3*. I can not use lenovo driver page of my x120e. In IE it shows me repeatedly the wizard to choose my model, although I enter the correct info there. It starts all over again and again. Tried opera, I can see the drivers page, but I can't browse, or expand none of the sections. (all I can think of this, do I need java for the page to work?)
3*. UPDATE: After installing IE 9, java and flash player, still not working. Opera too. Google Chrome works fine.           What's the matter with IE and OPERA? What component do I need to make IE work with lenovo drivers download page?
Can anyone help me? Never had to deal with these issues.
    Thanks in advance

Who helped you today? Do not forget to thank him.

    Hello,
Have you tried wiping the hard disk drive and reinstalling Windows 7 Professional x64 from the factory recovery discs while the BIOS is set to UEFI?  If so, did that work?

  • Issues after Clean Install

I erased my HD and did a clean install of Leopard to speed up my system.
After the install I did a software update and while restarting a window popped up that said something about Boot Cache. It seemed like it was taking a long time, so I left it overnight.
The computer was up this morning, so I started to install applications. I then did another software update..
I just installed iLife 08 and hit restart. Now the computer seems to be hanging at the part where the little circular dots are supposed to show up at the bottom middle of the screen.
The reason I did a clean install is because one of the issues I was having is that the computer took FOREVER to restart. A clean install doesn't seem to have fixed the problem.......? That doesn't seem right.
I am on a G5 Quad. There is nothing on my system except 10.5, Final Cut Studio 2, and iLife....

A clean install would mean that you did not import any previous files or settings but after a full erase you installed Leopard with all new settings and programs manually.
If you imported any old files or settings, you dirtied your install, possibly with whatever caused your original problem.
It is always better to solve or fix an issue rather than to start over again, because sometimes the problem is obvious.
If after a true clean install a problem recurs, then your hardware is at fault - RAM, HD, some driver, board or something like that. Again, it's always better to diagnose a problem and find out what is/was causing it.

  • Time machine issue after Yosemite install

After performing a clean install of Yosemite and migration from my TimeMachine backup I experienced the following:
I opened iTunes and selected some music to play, then got a dialog box saying the files could not be found.  Spotlight couldn't find them either... they were just gone.  Naturally I went to my Time Machine backups and was surprised the music was gone from the backups, all the way back to the first backup.  Very wierd.  During the migration I went through the "Cleaning up old backups" process, not sure exactly what this process is.
I was pretty bummed that I had permanently lost a lot of music, some was recordings of friends playing live that could never be replaced.  I then remembered that some time ago, just for the **** of it, I copied my sparsebundle backups to an external drive and stashed it in a drawer.  I browsed it, and lo and behold there were the missing files.  So I narrowly escaped a big problem, but wy did this happen?  What are they doing over at Apple?

This is really bad luck. And what can be seen here, it is not related to Yosemite but Mavericks, since I asume your backups were made with Mavericks. Though, it is possible that this bug still persists with Yosemite.
I have a similar problem. I am still on Mavericks. I see missing files in ~/Library/Preferences on a regular basis. When I come aware of it, I fix it manually by excluding Preferences folder from backup, run backup, include folder Preferences and finally backup again. But this fix does not last for long. Suddenly after some weeks I see a again missing files in that folder, when browsing the "Latest" backup.
I have found some related discussion:
    Time machine missing files
    http://forums.macnn.com/90/mac-os-x/509489/potential-time-machine-issue-maverick s-leaving/
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/130955/some-files-are-gone-after-recove ry-from-time-machine-backup-why/150230

    https://twitter.com/ThatDJJP/status/526429152153714690
    missing mail after installation
No solution until today. Very frustrating.
My feeling is, that many users do not recognize, that they are victim of this horrible bug, cause in most cases only few folders are hit by this bug.
And now since Yosemite is out, people are actually using there backups for the first time since Mavericks and run into a disaster.
Atm I am trying to test, if maybe fsevent daemon is the problem, in the past there have been issues like http://openradar.appspot.com/10207999
I did a check on my drive, and I found issues with realpath()/readdir(). Though, those issues may just be old and have not been detected by me for a very long time. My MBP is 5 years old and I upgraded all the way from 10.5 to 10.6 to 10.9.
With 10.6 I never had such an issue.
But more likely, the issue is related to the "Cleaning up old backups" process. Cause I also have the feeling, that when my backup drive gets full and  the shrink process took place, then the result are missing files in younger backups then the ones cleaned. If that is true, then maybe the hard-link-approach of Time Machine is somehow involved.

  • Issues after Leopard install.

    Hi,
I bought my intel iMac in October. It came with Tiger as the operating system. I recently upgraded to Leopard (after Apple sent me a free upgrade DVD of Leopard). Anyway, I had no problems before I installed Leopard. Since I've installed Leopard I've noticed a few 'glitches'. For example, sometimes there are horizontal lines through some of the application icons when I run my cursor over them in the dock. Also, in Safari, when I right click the mouse to open a new window...a new window won't open and the cursor jumps to the search field in Google (the webpage I already have up).
Has this happened to anyone else? What do you think I should do? I don't really want to do an erase and install...is it easy to put all of my files back where they belong if I do an archive and install? I'd appreciate any help you may have to offer. Thanks.

    Hello, two things:
    1) In your Utilities folder>Disk Utilities>Repair Disk Permissions.
    2) Reset the Pram:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Try both of these and report back. They are harmless to your computer and can only help and possibly correct the issues,
    Ray

  • Microphone issue after Lion install

    Hi there.
I have an iMac 27'', early 2010 (the last version before the core i3/i5/i7 came out) and it works basically fine with everything, just as it did since I got it. Now, after Lion's install, the overral performance seems a wee bit better, even while gaming (World of Warcraft and some others), altho for me and my wife, some "laggy situations" have been causing some sluggish camera turns that didnt happen at all, before (and some situations do lag more then before, but oh well).
But the real "issue" is that both our microphones just stopped working (my wife uses a Macbook Pro 17'' mid 2009). I did read about some issues with microphones in Lion and some of it being related to usage of external audio and microphones etc, but both machines here use the basics... Built in sound and microphones, since *ever*.
What's buggin me the most is that the Microphone itself seems to be working "fine", since whe I go the System Preferences and try to calibrate it, the meters seem to be working just as perfectly as before, but pretty much every 3rd party application I use that has a microphone element (mainly Teamspeak3, but also Ventrilo, Skype, Raidcal...) cant seem to "find" the microphone.
Trying to calibrate it within these programs doesnt even move the bars, as if there was no microphone. Also tried to plug in an external mic, but that didnt do any good.
Not sure if any one has been experiencing issues like those (all the applications have been totally removed and reinstalled from scratch) but I do know some people that have similar systems and after installing Lion, didnt get any of those cases of "bad mics"...
Well, I appreciate the help and thanks in advance to everyone.
    Att,
    Gustavo Gonzalez.

Hi guys, I am getting crazy about my microphone not working in lion. I think it's a conflict problem or whatelse. In my case my system was a Tiger->Leopard->SnowLeopard->Lion, changing each time I was buying a new mac...so I'm afraid this could cause some mess...I don't know..
ANYWAY: waiting for a solution "seriously made by apple", I found a naive solution:
YOU NEED THE HEADPHONES OF YOUR iPHONE, like these:
    http://store.apple.com/it/product/MB770G/B
and, I guess, a recent mac. In my case I have a brand new MacBook Pro.
The connector of these headphones has 3 channels, I guess 2 are for stereo and 1 for microphone, and perhaps the jack connector of the new macs can work with it.
Simply connect them to the headphones connector and forget about the microphone.
    In my case IT WORKED.
Ok, it's not a solution, but it's letting me to have my skype phone-co, at least.
    Waiting for something better.

  • MacBook pro suddenlink email issues after yosemite install.

After installing yosemite on my 15" MacBook Pro I have had issues with my suddenlink email account. I went through all the settings yesterday with a sudden link representative and did find a port was wrong and corrected that on my outgoing server. However I never could update my password successfully using Preferences, Account, Password. It would let me save it, but would not actually change it, as confirmed by the connection doctor. So reading some other threads here I went to my provider and changed my password there, to make sure everything was correct. I updated the passwords on my iPhone and iPad, and both accounts are working correctly (they always have been working properly). I deleted the sudden link account from my MacBook, and reinstalled it with the correct new password, it was working fine all day yesterday and then this morning when I got back on my MacBook, I have the triangle exclamation point symbol next the sudden link account again. Tried re-entering the password via preferences tab and no luck, verified with connection doctor that I couldn't connect, it gave me the same error,  verify password and username is correct. I deleted and re-installed with correct password, and it works again. Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

There's a sequence of steps in the support article for each of several possible scenarios of a connection failure in Mail. Please describe in detail what happened when you followed the applicable sequence all the way to the very end, without skipping any of the steps. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem.

  • MDT 2010 - USB 3.0 issue after OS Install and Inject Drivers steps

    Hello,
I'm using MDT 2010 and I'm booting and image PCs from a USB drive. On some newer systems (eg: Latitude El530) I have issues when I use the USB 3 ports (if media is connected to USB 2 port, everuthing is fine). The systes recognizes the USB stick and I can
start the Task Sequence just fine. I pass the Install OS step and Inject Drivers step, but after the first reboot, I get the prompt to insert the media to continue the deployment. This happens only if the stick is connected to the USB 3.0 ports. If I
check Device Manager, I see the USB device withouth driver. The drivers are already on the USB stick...I puled them from FileRepository from an updated system with all the drivers. Is anyone else having similar issues? I see other people have USB 3 issues,
but mostlly to start the deployment from it, or at partitioning...I don't have that issue. My issue starts after the OS is installed.
    Any sugestion is appreciated...Thank you...
    aburica

You should be able to do this.  nVidia Optimus video drivers have the same issue.  How we solved this
We create selection profiles for each make and model
We inject every single driver in profile for each make and model
The Optimus driver then gets installed because it is local to the machine already.
Why it didn't work before is the child device never gets detected during the PNP enum that happens when you have 'Install only matching drivers from the selection profile' so never ends up in the local driver store.
P.S. We ONLY have the drivers that install imported into each make model folder.

  • ODBC TNS issues after XE install

    Hello all,
My computer is Windows XP. I have Oracle 9i Client installed.
I have recently installed XE on my desktop to attempt to develop a small database.
Prior to the installation, I was able to connect to several Oracle database through various applications.
After the installation, I was not able to connect to any of the Oracle databases.
I copied my previous tnsnames.ora file (C:\oracle\ora90\network\admin) into the new tnsnames.ora file (C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN). This allowed me to connect to most of the databases.
However, I am not able to connect to IBM Rational ReqPro.
    I receive this error:
[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-12514: TNS: listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor.
To attempt to resolve this I have modified the windows 'PATH' so that the ora90 location occurs before the oraclexe location.
    I rebooted the machine.
Used TNSPING successfully. TNSPING reports that it used the parameter file in the ora90 location.
Used SQLPlus. I am asked for a connection password and user name, but I don't have a valid username / password. I receive an error: TNS:protocol adapter error.
    Any hints would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Justin

As a follow-up, I finally uninstalled XE and still was not able to resolve this issue with ReqPro.
I searched the registry for any references to XE. No luck.
I uninstalled ReqPro and all associated application. I also uninstalled my Oracle 9i client. After reinstalling everything, I still had the same issue.
Finally I found that my TNSnames.ora was slightly out of date. The port numbers for the ReqPro database had changed. Because of the timing, and the other issues I had with the other databases I access, I assumed this was a problem with the XE install.
(NOTE: I'll be busy for a day or two hanging my head in shame).

  • Core Duo random restarts after ram install

    Hi,
I am aware of kernel panics caused by bad ram, but not random restarts. Well, here is the list of problems since installing 2GB ram:
    1) 1 kernel panic about 10 minutes after installing said ram
    2) 3 random restarts about 24hrs apart while working.
Is this indicative of bad ram, or do I have a different problem?
Other than that, I love this mini.
    Thanks,
    Berndt

    Hi Berndt,
Just wondering if that Mushkin brand memory is still working fine in your Intel MacMini Duo. I've checked out Mushkin's website and they do not list the Intel Mini as a compatable machine but every other Intel Mac is listed. Maybe they just missed it, I don't know. That's why I'm curious as to whether you're having continued success or not.
    Thx.

  • Apple Id issues after clean install

I did a clean install of Mavericks on a friends macbook that was crashing every 5 minutes or so after the upgrade. The mac runs great now, but for some reason she cannot sign into her apple id under systempreferences/users&groups. She can sign into icloud just fine and has reset her password, but still no luck. She is bringing it back to me tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on the matter or if anyone has seen this happen.

  • Macbook Randomly Restarting After Yosemite install

Hi, i have 2011 MacBook Pro (13 Inch), which keeps shutting down and restarting. I've attatched the full error report. Can anybody shed any light on what the problem could be ?
I have updated to Yosemite. The only big change that I made so far was to do the following in order to get my M-AUDIO firewire audio interface to work after the upgrade to Yosemite:
      sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"

I believe this is the same problem I have been having since the beta.  I submitted reports, but I was never able to find a solution.  I have been able to replicate the issue.  Mine seems to crash/restart when I am running safari with a lot of tabs.  I have seen some suggestions that it is a crash related to the way Safari is processing graphics.
I would love to find a resolution as well.

  • Many issues after leopard install

iMovie was working fine until I installed Leopard. Since then, I have experienced many issues. First, the sounds of some audio files would not work unless I extracted the audio. For many clips, the audio would not function unless I started playing several seconds before the clip—starting mid-clip was impossible. Clipping audio files seemed to work, but the rest of the audio file still existed. For example, if I used a short part of a ten minute song at the end of a movie, there would be 10 minutes of black silence as a result. Also, several video effects had issues, brightness in contrast in particular. Often, it would kill the sound of an audio clip entirely. Other times, it would make the colors turn bizarre shades. On top of all this, I even had audio from a clip I deleted show up mysteriously in another unrelated clip. The phantom audio could only be deleted if I extracted the audio.
I am running 6.0.3. I saw that there is a 6.0.4, but it is only available for iLife '08 customers. Please help! Has anyone else experienced these issues?

I just completed a project in IM 6 this evening, mainly because I needed to use GeeThree transitions. It took me twice as long to get the project done simply the IM kept crashing when I tried to apply transitions. It would work okay when I applied two or three transitions, but then it would crash. I did all the usual repair stuff, but it never got better.
I'm beginning to wonder if Apple will even continue to support IM 6? I've been using it as part of my business, but now I think it's time to really learn FCE. IM '08 just doesn't cut for business related projects.
IM 6 was working really well for me until the Leopard update. I really wish Apple would bring IM 6 back and keep improving on it.
