Multiple same-manuf/model AirPrint printers on the same network

Our business uses the same Make/Model of an AirPrint-compatible printer (HP LaserJet PW1102w) at several separate workstations (3) on the same WiFi network.  AirPrint works perfectly from an iOS device to any of the printers, unfortunately, all 3 printers show up with the same name in AirPrint when you go to select a printer.  Is there any way to distinguish the different printers from each other when you go to choose a printer in AirPrint?  All workstations use Windows 7; I tried simply renaming each printer in the Printer Properties of "Devices and Printers"  in the Control Panel, giving each a workstation name to identify them.  This does not work; AirPrint seems to only show the actual model name given to it by the manufacturer, which I have not been able to find a way to change.  Can anyone help with this?  It is a rather frustrating guessing game at choosing a printer out of the same printer names, only to have your print job show up at someone else's workstation.

Hello nabqtchamps,
If you can acquire the IP address of each printer, please post again if you cannot, and input the IP address of your printer into the address bar of an internet browser and hit "Enter". This should take you to the printer's Embedded Web Server.
1. Click the "Network" tap on the top of the page.
2. Click the "Network Identification" option on the left-hand side.
3. You should now see an option for "Bonjour Service Name", that is the name that appears for AirPrint from your iOS devices.
4. Change the name as you see fit and click "Apply".
Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

  • Macbook Air 2013 model stopped connecting to the wireless network

My 2013 MacBook Air has suddenly stopped connecting to my network. It is often intermittent and will kick me off the network if anyone else is connected. I think it is something to do with my Linksys router and the new Apple Airport card.
Do I need to get a new router and if so do I need the Apple Wireless router?
    Andrew

Work through the steps in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398 and see that brings it back.

  • Does a wireless printer need to be on the TC network or can it remain on the FIOS router network

I have a verizon FIOS router with one wireless network...connected to it are 3 laptops, 2 HP wireless printers and numerous things like TV's, wii and Apple TV...when I set up a new TC and use it as my router for my Macbook Pro will I be able to print to the printers if I leave them on the FIOS network?..I of course will have the TC connected to the FIOS router via a ethernet cable. Its a pain to reset up all the numerous devices to a new network. Since the TC is connected to the FIOS router is it safe to assume something connect to the TC is also connected to the FIOS wireless network??

yes we got sidetracked into the extending thing..I don't want to do that I want to do what you mentioned latter..2 different networks I was planing on leaving my TV's, blueray, WII on the FIOS network but connect the laptops to the TC N network..and I'm now sure I'll have to set up the wireless printers on the TC network or the laptops wont see them..
So I will do as you mentioned in another post and:
Here is how to hook up your Time Capsule to the FIOS router:
Connect an ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the FIOS router to the WAN (circle of dots icon) port on the Time Capsule.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility and click Continue to follow the guided setup to configure your Time Capsule.
Page 1 will ask you to assign a name and device password for the Time Capsule
Page 2 you want to choose the option to Create a wireless network
Page 3 will ask you choose a name for the wireless network and a password
Page 4 you want to select the Bridge Mode option
Page 5 select Configure IPv4 using DHCP. Leave everything else blank
Click Update to save your settings and the Time Capsule will restart in 25-30 seconds and you should have a green light.
You can now log on to the Time Capsule wireless network by locating the name of the network and entering the wireless network password.
It is possible that having two routers in close proximity both producing a wireless network may introduce wireless interference effects between the two networks. If you experience this, you will need to turn off the wireless on the FIOS router.

  • Is AirPrint and Wifi the same in printers?

When I was looking at printers I saw WiFi and AirPrint Printers for my iPad but I wasn't sure whether they were the same. I wasn't sure if I could use a Wifi rather than an AirPrint Printers.
    Thanks, Everybody.

Airprint is a particular communication protocol that flows over WiFi.  So, having a WiiFi printer isn't sufficient. The printer needs to be of an Airprint variety of WiFi.
For maximum simplicity see this List of supported AirPrinters.

If you want to go the complicated way...
printing to a non-airprinter from an iPad
To print from the iPad, your going to have to install some more software:
-- install a printer app on the ipad. many printer makers have iPad applications for their printers.  Look in the app store
-- install enabling software on a computer which you have connected the printer

  • I have two printers of the same model registed in eprintcenter and can't differentiate between them.

I have two printers of the same model registed in eprintcenter and can't differentiate between them.
I've tried change varios names in each printer's settings but they still show up in eprintcenter with the model name. What can I do to change the name so I can diffentiate the two prineters?

Hi mptpro, the way to differentiate between your two printers within your ePrintCenter account is by their email address. The model name is automatically detected when you add the printer to your account and is not configurable but you can set the email address is. By giving each printer a distinctively different and meaningful email address you'll be able to differentiate between the two.
To change a printer's email address:
log in to your ePrintCenter account
    click on the Printers tab
select one of the printers and you will see the current email address for that printer just above the job history table
click the Change button to the right of the address and enter the desired name in the dialog box that opens
    repeat for the second printer

All my devices except my iPhone 4S can airprint.  Only the 4s tells me no airprint printers found.  I see no differences in the settings and I am on the same network as the printer.  Like I said, two iPads and an iPhone 4 airprint like a champ!

Appreciate the suggestion and tried it, but still, no joy.  I even had another iPhone brought into the network and it found the printer, no problem.  It's just this one iPhone 4s.  Sounds like a trip to the Genius Bar for me!

  • Multiple printers on the same network problem

I have 2 HP OJ Pro 8600 printers and one HP OJ Pro 8500 Plus printer on the same network. My question is whether it is possible to change the network name of these printers so that it is easier to identify them.
The printers are in three different buildings so there is little stress to run around to find out where the print comes.

    Hi JObbern
If all the printers are on the same network you won't be able to change the network name on the printer.
You can change the name of the printer though on each computer. Depending on the operating system you are using, go to the printers window, right click and rename. Example Office1, Office 2.
If the option isn't available you can go to the printer window and add a printer and change the printer name through the wizard.
    Hope that helps.

  • Multiple persistence units with name "Model" are defined at the same scope

    Hi,
I get this error when deploying from Jdeveloper 10.1.3.4 to OAS 10.1.3.
The release notes for Jdev 10.1.3.1 say the following:
"To avoid this error, update the ViewController project settings to remove the dependency on the Model project before deploying the ADF web application to Standlone OC4J."
So I removed the dependancy but now none of my EJB's are deployed! If I go to the Enterprise Manager Console I can only see my WEB MODULE but no EJBs.
Can anyone shed any light on this issue? Perhaps I have configured my incorrectly.
ps. I am trying to deploy an EJB3 web app so I do not have any deployment descriptors as the documentation say that they are not needed.
    Thanks

Also, the reason you are seeing those errors in your first project after generating entities from the second connection is because the project wide schema is being updated to the second connections generation schema. If you go into the JPA project properties you can change it back. This workflow would need to change with multiple persistence unit support.

  • My iPad cannot find my HP AirPrint printer HP 3050 .  We are on the same network

I have recently converted all our family devices to Apple.  My Mini-Mac has found my printer as well as my Mac Air.  The only device that has not is my wife's iPAD.  She is on the same home network as my other systems, but no results.  Software updates are current on all.  The local Apple store said that I am pressing the right Find Printer tab.  What else can I adjust to link up here?

The HP 3054 j610a is not an AirPrint printer. The 2011 model, the HP 305xA j611, does support AirPrint. The list is here:

  • HT4356 I have a brother mfc-j625dw and it's in the list of AirPrint printers under brother in the iOS: AirPrint 101 website but I cannot print from my ipad2.  Why?

I have a brother mfc-j625dw and it's in the list of AirPrint printers under brother in the iOS: AirPrint 101 website but I cannot print from my ipad2.  Who will i beleive, the website or brother?  I checked the iOS AirPrint 101 website first before I bought my brother printer model to make sure that AirPrint is available but it does not work.  Of course the brother printer salesman said that my model can do ipad2 AirPrint just to sell the unit.  So I made sure that it is possible first so I went to check it in iOS AirPrint website and when I saw the model in the list, I bought the brother printer immediately.  Why?

You're sure that you set the printer up correctly?
Did you try restarting the printer and the iPad?
Have you looked for a firmware update for the printer on the Brother website?
Does the printer work with your computer - assuming that you have a computer that is?

  • Can I get my mom's computer to pretend that 2 distinct Deskjet 1000 printers are the same one?

My mom is 86, and carries her laptop between two homes regularly. Tired of having two different makes/models of printers, and always having trouble remembering to switch her default printer when she travels, we bought 2 identical HP Deskjet 1000 printers. We set them up at the two locations, hoping that she could just tell her PC that she has one printer and it wouldn't know or care where she is or which of the two she's hooked up to. But it knows the serial numbers, and recognizes them as distinct printers, so she still has to remember to keep switching the default-printer setting from one to the other. (This is not that easy for a marginally-computer-literate 86-year-old!)
Is there any way I can tweak a setting or settings somewhere (override serial number maybe?) so that her pc will be happy with either of the two printers without her having to do anything?

On thing to look into would be "Printer Pooling", available in most Windows versions since Windows 2000.  This allows setting multiple printers as part of the "pool", and then printing happens to whichever one is first available.  See here for information.

I have a iPhone 4S and a Cannon Printer with AirPrint. I have the printer and the iPhone both on the same network, however I still can't locate the printer on the phone. Works just fine with the laptop on the same network. Any suggestions?

ok no problem! all i did was 1) set up the mobile hotspot on my phone. 2)  turn it and wifi on on the phone. 3)  connect the laptop/desktop to the hotspot network. 4) insert setup disk for the printer and begin setup. 5) complete the setup "using a usb cord to temporarilly connect the computer and printer" 6) unplug usb cable and finish set up on the laptop/desktop. 7) give it a few minutes to show up on the AirPrint menu on the phone. 8) that should be it. I unplugged the printer and plugged it back in, made sure the laptop was totally turned off AND disconnected from the network, and did everything I could to try and make it not work. The printer I have is a Canon MG3122, it doesn't have a fancy screen or even a way to input a password or anything like that, so it just strores a default network that it will connect to. in order to change networks i would have to complete setup multiple times. Since I only plan to use it with AirPrint for my mobile business....the one network is just fine! Hope this helps!

  • Multiple Users Mounting the Same Network Share?

    Hello, first time posting...
I'll cut right to my main question: Is it possible, on OS X v10.3.9, for multiple users to simultaneously connect to the same network share?
Here in my office, we have a single Mac that is used by multiple people throughout the day. It has two accounts on it, 'Communications' and 'Studio'. 'Communications' is an Admin account that is used by a co-worker who spends the most time on the Mac. He created the no-limitation 'Studio' account for the rest of us to use.
There is a certain Windows network share that we both frequently use. We've found that if one user connects to the share first, the other user will not have access to it; using 'Go -> Connect to Server' will result in the share being greyed out in the list, and the share will not show up in the Finder.
However, there is one way around it. If Studio connects to the share first and then Communications (the admin account) attempts to make a connection of it's own *through a shortcut on the dock*, then a 'clone' of the share will be created on Comm's desktop, with a "-1" after the name (though it might be some other number).
This may sound like I've answered my own question, but what I'm looking for is a way for the non-Admin account to access the share after the Admin account already has (so that we don't have to log-in and disconnect Communications everytime Studio needs to manage files on the share).
We have Thursby Software's DAVE installed on the Mac, but I'm not sure how it fits into all this.
    Any thoughts, suggestions or advice?
    Thanks.

Bizarre. It turned out I could merge them, but only in to the mapped drive - L: - and only by explicitly clicking on the drive icon - if I typed L:\series in to dialog box it converted it back to \\nas\share\series... Not helpful.

My Ipad 2 cant find my HP3050A j661b airprint printer although the printer is connected to the same wireless network and software updates are current on all and my other laptops also work properly with this printer.further more it used to work with my IPAD2 before when I used the old wireless router but now I changed it to HAUWEI HG231f but I set everything in the same way it was. Thanks in advance.

When you change to the new router, did you re-run the CD to re-set the new SSID and password to the printer.
Otherwise your iPad will not be able "talk" to your printer.
