Multiple Selection Keywording/Labeling (Bug?)

I recently noticed an inconsistency in behavior when selecting multiple images and applying a color label or keyword.
If I am in grid view in the main window and use the lower row of images to make a sequential selection of, for example,
10 images by selecting the first and shift-clicking the 10th. If I apply a keyword to these images, it works just fine.
However, if I am in single image view rather than grid view and make the same selection using the scrolling lower
row, only the first image is keyworded or color labeled.
I personally like to look at a single image in the main viewer and use the lower scroller to go from image to image and apply keywords. If I need to apply to more than one, I shift click and select multiples.
However, I am not able to do this when viewing only a single image in the main viewer.
Am I missing something in the logic of this behavior that perhaps is useful?
Can someone attempt to reproduce this?
Thanks so much for your help.

I am running the latest update of LR2 on a Mac Mini in Snow Leopard.

...what is the point of being able to multiselect in the film strip when in single image view? It seems to me that a multiple selection in the film strip should behave the same no matter which way I view the main window. If it does not, there should be some logic to this behavior, not simply, "That's how it works".

Here's some practical uses for being able to select multiple images in the filmstrip:
1. You're using loupe view and want to limit the number of selections so you are able to browse and choose the best image from a specific group of similar images.
2. Same as 1 but you want to apply ratings or labels to the images in the group. The rating/label will be applied to only the most selected image, not all of them, which is the desired behavior.
3. When in survey view the selection is controlled by the filmstrip. You can add and remove images from survey view by simply clicking on them in the filmstrip.
4. When in compare view, you can change the select/candidate images by clicking in the filmstrip.
There might be more, but I use these all the time.

• Selected Keywords do NOT all get written to selected files. bug

have discovered and confirmed with adobe tech support a bug with adobe bridge cs4 not writing keyword metadata tags to multiple selected files..
PSD files and raw,jpegs when selected with PSDs fail to write metadata keywords to file. If you select a batch of PSD files or a batch of PSD's and raws,jpegs etc.. then select check boxes of keywords to apply, only some of those keywords will be applied. You can verify this after the write cycle by noticing a "-" sign showing they are not all the same. Raw and other files do not apear to have this problem.
I have verified this problem with adobe techsupport- having them repeat this problem on their own computer. They repeated this on a mac, I currently run xp. so this is platform independent and looks to be a core adobe bridge issue.
I do not know if light room has this same issue but would be worth checking.
I have filed a case report and bug report and apparently am the first one. I find that suprsing as I figure many designers would be using key wording for thier work flow and thsi type of bug is a show stopper.
Work around in bridge is to select psd's independently and select ONE keyword to apply at a time and wait for (lower left screen) write cycle indicator to stop before adding additional keywords.

I have this bug too in my Bridge CS4.I work on Windows XP SP3.
I need to index picture library, that contains a lot of PSD-files (about a 50 megabytes each).
Do you know - Is this bug fixed now?
Do you have any decision of this problem?
Just right i try to use multilayered TIFF instead of PSD.

• Scheduled Report - Bug with Multiple Selection LOV parameter

Problem:
I have a scheduled report with a parameter that has it's "Multiple Selection" checkbox checked. I schedule the report with multiple values selected. When I receive the report via email, the report ran as if I only selected one LOV value instead of multiple values.
Facts:
1) Enterprise version 10.1.3.2.1
2) When you run the report manually with multiple values selected in the LOV, it runs great with the correct dataset.
3) This scheduled report does not have a Data Template.
James
P.S. - I searched this forum for other treads on this issue. I didn't find any. Sorry if this is a duplicate.

I have this same problem, too.
When I select multiple parameters on the "View" screen for a given report, everything works fine.
When I schedule it, however, only the last parameter I clicked on (regardless of whether a select a range or multiple individual values) is passed to the query. The other selections I make are ignored.
What gives? Am I doing something wrong? Is this a bug? Is there a workaround?

• Bug: Context menu operations on multiple selection of uix-nodes do not work

Hi,
when i select multiple .uix files in the navigator and then chose "Check XML Syntax", "Validate" or "Auto Indent XML" from the context menu, the selected operation is only done for the first file in the selection.
This is a nice Bug because this works for Make and Rebuild context menuitems, even if those items display the filename even for multiple selection ("Make AFile.uix).
Would be nice if those operations would work on the "HTML Sources" node or a subfolder.

thanks. we'll try to fix this in an upcoming release.

• AppleScript : modify labels for multiple selection of files and folders in Finder ?

As an experienced programmer in Pascal, Excel VBA, ... I am trying to find my way in AppleScript (first steps).
I am trying to build a small script that will run on a keyboard shortcut, and that will toggle the label of selected files and folders (multiple selection ?) in Finder between "purple" and "no label".
Based on a recorded action, I was trying something along the lines of
tell application "Finder"
Activate
repeat with oneItem in selection
set label index of oneItem to 3
end repeat
end tell
I am not clear on how to make the script understand that in a multiple selection I want to apply the requested command to each item. In addition, when testing it on one single item, it appears that I can't set the label index property of "selection" ...
Can someone please advise what the correct way is of (a) setting the property of a selected item in the Finder and (b) looping through a multiple selection ?
Thanks in advance.
Philip
P.S. Running Mac OSX 10.8.2 on MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and MacMini

Thanks alot, Softwater. In fact, I have been playing around with that and found that the "get" statement in your script suggestion is not even necessary. The script I saved as a Finder Service is now :
tell application "Finder"
repeat with oneItem in selection as list
if label index of oneItem = 0 then
set label index of oneItem to 5
else
set label index of oneItem to 0
end if
end repeat
end tell
By assigning a shortcut key to this one, I can now toggle labels.
Additional trick I did is to restrict the applicability of the script to only movie-files (I am using this to change the labels of movies / TV shows on my computer which I still want to see versus the ones that I don't want to see anymore). I noticed during testing that the script would also color folders and drives selected in other finder windows than the one I was working in, so now it only works on movie files which is more what I want.
Great tool, the AppleScript Editor and the Automator. Only a little bit a pitty that finding out about object structure and properties is not very straightforward in the AppleScript Editor (comparing to e.g. the VBA in MS Excel, which has an almost perfect help system and built-in reference). I am not a Microsoft fan in general, but when it comes to MS Excel VBA, I have not seen any built-in help system yet that approaches its usefulness ...
I guess I will be "seeing" you again on this forum ... I am getting the taste of scripting again :-D

• Multiple Selection multi-line per choice

I have a bunch of multiple selection items which are all the same, so I copied and pasted them where I wanted them. The pasted ones are taking up two to three lines per choice (one word per line) even though they are very short and the original that I copied from only takes one line each. Does this mean I have to do each one manually? Why are the copied ones different from the original? Thanks!

Hi,
It sounds like a bug, since this shouldn't be happening. However I tried to reproduce the problem, but couldn't. It's probably a bug, that specific to your choices labels. Could you share your form to me ([email protected]), so I can take a look at the specifics? Once I can see it, I can provide some guidance about the issue and how to work around it (if posisble) until we've fixed it. You can share a form by clicking the share button, and then clicking add collaborators.

• Multiple selection of parameter SQL error

Hi,
I am using BIP Enterprise stand alone, Release 10.1.3.2
I have a report with 2 parameters: salesperson and clientprospect with the 'multiple selection' and 'can select all' options turned on. My sql query is shown below.
When I run the report, here are the results with various parameter selection scenarios:
1-'all' select for both parameters = no results
2-any single value selected in both parameters = correct results
3-'all' select in one parameter and any single value selected in the other=no results
4-two or more values selected in either parameter=sql error ([Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]Line 14: Incorrect syntax near ','.)
As the error message suggests, I looked at line 14, but there is no ',' on line 14.
Code
select     RCUST.customer_name as 'Customer Name',
RCUST.customer_number as 'Customer No.',
RCUST.branch_id as 'Branch ID',
RCUST.salesperson as 'Salesperson ID',
Case tw_relshp_type
WHEN 'C' THEN 'CLIENT'
WHEN 'P' THEN 'PROSPECT'
Else 'OTHER'
END AS 'Client Type'
from     dbo.TREL TREL,
dbo.RCUST RCUST
where RCUST.customer_name=TREL.tw_relshp_name
and tw_relshp_type = :ClientProspect
and salesperson = :Salesperson
order by RCUST.branch_id ASC, RCUST.salesperson ASC, RCUST.customer_name ASC
I cannot figure why I am not getting the correct results in each of the above 4 scenarios.
I seem to be stuck. I have searched this forum by keyword 'parameter', but I did not find any solutions, hence my post. Any help would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks,
Haresh

Thanks to both of you for your prompt comments. I have tried the where...DECODE clause but I am getting the following message:
"[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]'DECODE' is not a recognized function name."
I will enter a SR in metalink. Maybe they can test and release a patch, as I suspect that this is a bug.

• SELECT-OPTIONS Multiple selection

Hello
I have the following line of code:
SELECT-OPTIONS: p_matnr FOR mara-matnr.
The users would like to use the multiple selection button to paste/upload from the clip board but unable until at least one entry is entered before the multiple selection will work. Is there a way for the multiple selection to work without entering a material?
THANKS

Hi Gary, Clicking the button shown below bring up the multiple selection screen without requiring a value. Do not add the obligatory keyword on the select-options statement as pointed out by Ramon.

• How can I create a XMP List with multiple selection

Hello,
I try to build my own XMP custom panel. Herefore I need a couple of lists with the possibility for multiple selections (e.g. the choice for one language or multiple languages).
But how is it possible to integrate a list into a panel? There is no XMPList inside the custom folder. I have experimented with the standard mx:list and an array collection for data binding into the list. But how can I write the user selection into an XMP field? Example: In the List the user choose three languages (DE, EN, FR). Is it possible to collect the choice into a string and to write the result into an XMP standard field (e.g. dc:description)?
A further question is, if it's possible to use the "HTTPService" to bind an external xml-file with the languages and other informations into the panel or is it only possible to work with an array collection inside the code?

Hi Markus,
the FileInfo SDK does not offer a ready-made list component allowing for multi-selection.
So you would need to implement one using the FileInfo SDK API. Your component "XMPList" would inherit from mx:list and would need to implement the XMPRead and XMPWrite events and talk to the XMP using the IXMPAccess interface within those event handlers.
Please have a look at the Programmer's Guide, section "XMP Flex components" and at the API description available in "docs" for further guidanc.
Hope this helps
Kind Regards

Alex,
the missing thing in your example is the fact, that if only one value is selected, the parameter has exact this value like BOSTON. If you choose more than one value, the parameter includes the *'*, so that it looks like *'BOSTON','NEW YORK'*. So you need to check in the package, if there's a *,* in the parameter or not. If yes there's more than one value, if not it's only one value or it's null.
So change your package to (you need to expand your variables)
create or replace package bip_departments_2_parameters
as
p_dep_2_param varchar2(1000);
p_loc_1_param varchar2(1000);
p_where_clause varchar2(1000);
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean;
end bip_departments_2_parameters;
create or replace package body bip_departments_2_parameters
as
function beforereporttrigger
return boolean
is
l_return boolean := true;
begin
p_where_clause := ' ';
if p_dep_2_param is not null then
if instr(p_dep_2_param,',')>0 then
p_where_clause := 'WHERE DNAME in ('||p_dep_2_param||')';
else
p_where_clause := 'WHERE DNAME = '''||p_dep_2_param||'''';
end if;

• Interactive Reporting - Multiple SELECT stmts in 1 query

Is it possible to multiple/nested select statements in 1 query? Actually what I need to do is pull records for the last 12 months. The SQL that I'm basing my IR query from has multiple SELECT statements and uses the add_month function w/ a parameter ranging from 0 to -12.
Thanks.

Here's some of the additional SELECTs. There are more after these that I didn't include since it would be fairly long.

how to handle multiple selection in the Spark List control with checkbox as itemrenderer?
how to retrieve the selected item label?

So I suppose it's a bug in the AIR for iOS compiler. Any clues about why am I getting that warning message?

I've been getting this message for quite a while, but I think a fix will soon be needed. I got the following message from Apple:

• Multiple selection in List control using CheckBox as itemrenderer

Hey all,
I am trying to get multiple selection working in a list control using the CheckBox as itemrederer but I am unable to get a list of selected indices even though I have multiple check boxes selected
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="vertical">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
private function onChange():void
trace(chkList.selectedIndices);
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:ArrayCollection id="collection">
<mx:Object label="Test A"/>
<mx:Object label="Test B"/>
<mx:Object label="Test C"/>
<mx:Object label="Test D"/>
<mx:Object label="Test E"/>
<mx:Object label="Test F"/>
<mx:Object label="Test G"/>
</mx:ArrayCollection>
<mx:List id="chkList" dataProvider="{collection}" itemRenderer="mx.controls.CheckBox" change="onChange();" allowMultipleSelection="true"/>
</mx:Application>
I always get the last item I clicked
Thanks,
Firdosh

Hi there, I'll tweak your code a little bit to something like this:
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
layout="vertical">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.events.ListEvent;
import mx.controls.CheckBox;
[Bindable]
private var mySelectedIndexes:ArrayCollection=new ArrayCollection();
private function onChange(e:ListEvent):void
if(CheckBox(e.itemRenderer).selected){
mySelectedIndexes.addItem(e.rowIndex);
}else{
mySelectedIndexes.removeItemAt(mySelectedIndexes.getItemIndex(e.rowIndex));
chkList.selectedIndices=mySelectedIndexes.toArray();
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:ArrayCollection id="collection">
<mx:Object label="Test A"/>
<mx:Object label="Test B"/>
<mx:Object label="Test C"/>
<mx:Object label="Test D"/>
<mx:Object label="Test E"/>
<mx:Object label="Test F"/>
<mx:Object label="Test G"/>
</mx:ArrayCollection>
<mx:List id="chkList" dataProvider="{collection}" itemRenderer="mx.controls.CheckBox"  itemClick="onChange(event);" allowMultipleSelection="true"/>
</mx:Application>
