Multiple Single Edition Folios?

I'm evaluating publishing a small distribution magazine on a quarterly basis. Since we're on a limited budget, I'm thinking of purchasing the "Single Edition" each time we publish. Is this possible? If so, I assume that it would result in multiple "apps" within the iOS 5 newsstand ... I wonder if Apple will approve multiple "magazine" apps with the same magazien name, just different editions?
Thanks for thoughts,
Ted

This depends on a lot of factors -- Is the issue free? If it is free, then just do an "update" and replace the quarterly issues. This is what we do with our publication The Portland Guide. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/portland-guide/id417272725?mt=8
If it's a paid option, you can do either of these two things:
1. You can release each app individually and have several on there (I'd recommend no more than 4 "editions" per year so it doesn't get too complicated. -- Just throw up updates for each "edition" for each subsequent years. You of course could delete the issues too in case you want to keep the issues at the top of the "New Apps" list. For example you could call it something like this: YourPublication Fall 2011, then delete it and the next year you could call it YourPublication Fall 2012.
2. You could just delete each issue and follow the same principals as above: YourPublication Fall 2011, YourPublication Winter 2012, YourPublication Spring 2012, etc.
My recommendations: If it's free, do the option above. If it's paid, I recommend using the 1st method as you'll have a year's worth of "Archived Copies." Four editions isn't enough to "clutter" the app store, so Apple should be fine. But don't quote me on that.
Hope that helps!

  • Buying multiple single editions

    Hello
I'm a freelance designer working in the UK. Can someone at Adobe please confirm that I can buy a DPS single edition in the UK? I think I can, but it still says I can't in the DPS opening page.
Also, I understand that by buying a single edition, I'm able to publish a single app, but I'm unclear about buying multiple single editions and the relationship with the viewer builder. If I have a client who wants to publish four digital publications per year, can I buy 4 single editions and place the 4 folios in a client branded multi-issue viewer builder, or will each folio have its own viewer builder?  I feel that I need to properly understand this before I approach prospective clients.
Thank you for any guidance you can give.

    Hi,
DPS Single Edition is available in the UK. See: https://store2.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html/index.cfm?store=OLS-UK&event=displayProduct&ca tegoryPath=%2FApplications%2FDPSSingle
You have the ability to purchase multiple licenses for Single Edition per year.  You have to create 4 individual viewers.
From a customer experience, you are talking about a periodical publication (published 4 times a year). A multi-folio viewer (kiosk) with 4 folios would be a better route / solution. This will require a DPS Pro subscription.
When you go down the road of using four 'single' applications, there are chances that Apple will ask you to convert this into a multi-folio app anyway after some time (because of the customer experience); I have heard about this happening in Europe.

  • Can you self-distribute a single edition folio app?

Currently I am using the Adobe Content viewer to distribute folio's for a couple of clients.  One client would like single edition folio apps created, but doesn't like the idea of them being in iTunes.  Is it possible to self-distribute (publish) a single edition folio app outside of iTunes?  Much the same way you can already create any type of iPad app and create an installable package without having to go through iTunes...
    Thanks for any assistance,
    Greg B

The only way to do so is to create a developer version of the app but it
will expire and will be limited to 100 UDIDs.
In short, this isn't going to happen without enterprise level accounts
with Apple and Adobe and is still subject to licensing restrictions set
forth by Apple for app distribution.

  • Social Sharing in Single Edition folios

I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate this. And since it's already available in multi-folio's, it shouldn't be too hard to implement this (I think).
Also sharing to LinkedIn is a request we often get from clients, so maybe that can be added as well.
    Thanks!

Is there actually a reason why not?
I mean, if it's possible to implement this in multi-folio apps, I can imagine that someone might want to share something that's in a single edition.  In my opinion, this just doesn't make sense and is one more letdown for the entire DPS thing...
Guess we'll have to try to explain this to our customer or look for an alternative method for digital publishing instead of DPS.

  • Export single edition and import in a content with others magazines: EDIT

I am trying to import files exported from a single edition from another userID. Now I want to have that magazine in a new kiosk with others. Is it possible?
    I try:
import files downloaded from the single edition "Folio, xml, etc...."
Share from the other uerID the magazine, but I cant see and edit the content.
Do I have to re-use the indesign files to copy the mag in another user? :/
    Thank you very much!

turn your single edition folio into an online folio, share with the other account, use the copy folio feature to copy from account A into account B.
There is no way to import content that was exported using the export feature in folio producer

  • No Response when submitting build for single-edition custom viewer app

I want to build a custom viewer app for a single-edition folio for the iPad using the Viewer Builder. I go through all the steps described by the help articles and videos, such as generating and downloading mobileprovision files and creating asset files. However, at the final step, where the viewer builder displays the text: 'Once you hit the Submit Build' button, your build will be queued. Click 'Finish' to return to your list of publications. I click 'Submit Build', and I get the progress bar which says 'Submitting to the build queue: This popup will disapper once complete'. Once the popup disappears, I click, 'Finish', and I am returned to the Manage screen. I can see a list item for each time I attempted to submit a build, but the Builds and Build Details Columns are blank, showing no builds. However, there is a link in the App Status Column to 'Activate' by entering a serial number. Is it necessary for me to enter my serial number before I can see the results of my build, or is there something wrong with the build process?

Yes, and you need to PAY for that serial number. Single Edition apps are $395 each.

  • Updating your Single Edition App

I need to update my single edition folio. It was my understanding when I built it, that I would be able to submit an update later on in the year. However, I'm told now that I need to convert it over to a multi-edition folio. I can do that, however I'm worried about losing my current subscribers.
Has anyone found a way around this?
    Thanks!

You wouldn't lose your current subscribers when you update from a single-folio app to a multi-folio app as long as you use the same mobileprovision files when re-building the app and submit it as an update in iTunes Connect. You cannot send push notifications for single-folio apps. However, your users will be notified in App Store that a new version of the app is available.
Uploading as a multi-folio app requires a Professional or Enterprise DPS account. If you discontinue your DPS subscription, your users will no longer be able to download content in your app.

  • How to alert Folio updated with Single Edition

    Hy everybody.
No Push Notification exist in Single Edition process.
So, if I modified one page (for example) in a Folio already published in App Store, I have to uploaded a new .zip of my App to Apple.
How the customers which had already charged the App on their iPad can be alerted about this upgrade ?
Message was edited by: Galilée Devs

When you upload your updated application to Apple and it is approved your readers will see a notice in iTunes that your app updated. They'll have to go and download it.

  • Converting a single edition into Multiple edition

I have created a single edition ipad app (Game Drive - A Safari Guide), which is selling well. But now I want to create an iphone app multiple edition app. I submitted the iphone app, but Apple rejected it as they say that it is not compatible with ipad. So to be able to have an iphone app, I have to have an ipad version of the same app. My problem is that it is the same app, i.e. if I have a multiple edition app called Game Drive, it will be the same as the single edition app that I already have on the app store.
My questions are: 1. What is the tendancy - do people buy multiple edition apps more, or single editions? i.e. will I loose out if I convert to a multiple edition app on my ipad?
    2. If I keep the single edition of the app on the app store for the ipad, will people get confused because there are two apps with the same name? Has anybody done that before?
    3. Is it worthwhile putting it on newsstand?
My existing app is selling quite well, and don't want to mess with something that works. But to be able to create an iphone app, I have to have a multiple ipad app of the same thing.
Can someone give some advice please?

Hi, I have the DPS Single Edition is but the Folio Producer public when the folio I alone was deprived. Why? How do I publish for the public? Thank You

You should look at our Single Edition publishing guide. You don't use Folio Producer with Single Edition. http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ppcompdoc/Step_by_step_guide_to_dps_se.pdf
Note that support for Single Edition in Creative Cloud ends on May 1st. Make sure you get your app completed and approved by Apple before then.

  • Some Single Edition and Single Folio Questions

    Hi all,
First of all, sorry about my english, is not as good as I'd like.
I've some questions about single edition and single folio projects, the process is not too clear for me:
With single folio, is possible to protect access through user/password? If it's possible... what's the way to get it working?
How many time does adobe need to give you the IPA file for the appstore when you work with a sigle folio project?
I've read with single edition you can't update your app, so if you publish in the App Store a book, and you find some mistakes... how can you solve them? Is possible to solve them buying another license or you need to load an complete new app?
    Thanks in advance,
    Marcos González.

    Joe,
ALL of your questions were already asked and answered (some of them more than once) on this forum. You should try some searching first.  No offence, but Bob (and the other Bob as well) are really working hard answering tons of questions coming in every day.
I think I can answer this one:
"How many Single Edition can I purchase? I have 16 small brochures for one client to publish to Apple's App Store."
Having 16 brochures to publish, it would be unwise to buy 16 SE codes for$395 each. Buying  Professional Edition for one year (12x $495) would spare you $1200, and give possibility to publish even 1000 small brochures during the period.
    Cheers,
    Tomek

  • Switching from multi-folio to single edition app

I've recently had to cancel my subscription to the DPS Professional Edition in which I published an multi-folio (iPad & iPhone) app to iTunes.
Now I'd like to resubmit the app as a single edition app with my Creative Cloud subscription (which will be iPad only).
I get the following error message when submitting the app with Application Loader:
ERROR ITMS-9000: “This bundle is invalid. The key UIRequiredDeviceCapabilities in the Info.plis may not contain values that would prevent this application from running on devices that were supported by previous versions. Refer to QA1623 for additional information: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#qa/qa#1623/_index.html” at SoftwareAssets/SoftwareAsset (MZItmspSoftwareAssetPackage)
ERROR ITMS-9000: “This bundle does not support one or more of the devices supported by the previous app version. Your app update must continue to support all devices previously supported. You declare supported devices in Xcode with the Targeted Device Family build setting. Refer to QA1623 for additional information: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#qa/qa#1623/_index.html” at SoftwareAssets/SoftwareAsset (MZItmspSoftwareAssetPackage)
error: xcode-select: note no developer tools were found at ‘/Applications/Xcode.app’, requesting install. Choose an option in the dialog to download the command line developer tools.
And a pop up box asking if I want to install Xcode:
The “lipo” command requires the command line developer tools. Would you like to install the tools now? Choose install to continue. Choose get Xcode to install Xcode and the command line developer tools from the app store.
Is there a work-around for this - besides installing Xcode and trying to figure out the targeted device settings?
Or do I have to start over and apply for a brand new app in iTunes Developer, etc.?
    Thanks!

This probably isn't about features in the app. Support for Newsstand can be removed and Apple will approve the modified app. Same goes for removal of other features.
The error description from Apple is pretty clear... you have stopped supporting a device. There are only 2 devices: iPhone and iPad. If your app supports both iPad and iPhone then switching to single-issue will remove support for iPhone (as only DPS Pro and Enterprise includes support for iPhone). This is why Apple won't approve the app.
    /Peter

  • Multiple languages in Single Edition DPS

    Hi,
We have just finished a single-folio application for a client in English and are about to publish it to the App Store. But our client has requested that we add 5 languages for the second version of the application, to be published in a month or two.
We've tried looking around for the best way to do this using Single Edition DPS but have not been able to find any documentation about how to do it. We know it's possible to do it using multi-folio applications, but our client doesn't want to publish a multi-folio app.
Has anybody here tried publishing a multi-language app using Single Edition? Any tips or links to documentation about it?
Thank you in advance for any help on this!
    Diana

This is not possible with DPS Single Edition, you will have to either create separate apps for each language or you will have to include all languages in one app however that will make your app very large and also will create confusion in navigating. The best option for you would be to create separate apps for each language and publish them regionally.

  • Migrate a Single Edition over to a Multi-folio with subscriptions?

    We have a Pro account.
We want to produce a free Single Edition app and then migrate this over to a retail multi-folio with subscriptions later on. Can this be done?
Basically, we are not ready to offer multi-folio with subscriptions today, but would like to get an App out into iTunes so that we can hold a piece of real estate in a specific category as well as have an App name that someone else cannot use.
    thanks in advance.

Yes, you can switch from a single-folio app to a multi-folio app with subscriptions. In DPS App Builder, you'll need to create a new version of the app. (When you edit an app in DPS App Builder, you cannot change the viewer type.) If you specify mobileprovision files based on the same App ID used with the single-folio app, Apple will recognize the new version as an update to the existing app.
With a multi-folio subscription app, you'll need to submit in-app purchases to Apple. When you do so, you'll need to submit a new version of the app at the same time.
