Multiple sites and multiple domains

I have upgraded to iLife 08 and successfully created a website using a domain with GoDaddy. Everything works great. But now my daughter wants to create her own website (she is a .mac member). How do I create 2 different websites that each have their own domain name? One site that uses my personal domain and a completely different site that uses .mac?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Your daughter does have her own account on your Mac, right? If not I would create one for here so her .Mac is unique to her account and she will be using here own domain.sites2 file for her site and not have to worry about your site in the same file.
If she already has a site in progress in iWeb, copy the domain.sites2 file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder into the same folder in her account. She can then open it with iWeb, delete your site and work on her site for publishing.

  • Multiple sites and personal domain

    Hi everyone!
I'm having a problem with iWeb 08. Here's the details:
Using iWebsite and iWeb '08 I've created 2 websites, one for personal use and one for my business.
Now I'm interested in buying a personal domain for my business website.
How can I do to set the personal domain only to my business site, leaving the personal one unchanged?
    Cheers,
    Samuele

An easy way to manage multiple sites is either iWebSites or MultiSite.
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want. Works for me.

  • Deploying Azure Web Site and Custom Domain Name

I'm new to Azure and not at all familiar with the various methods of publishing to Azure via Git, etc. I belong to the old school of plain old IIS folder structures and uploading HTML files to Inetpub directory for deploying web contents.
I have created an Azure web site at
http://mysite.azurewebsites.net and have added a CNAME record on our DNS server to redirect traffic from www.mydomain.com to mysite.azurewebsites.net but to no avail. I have downloaded and installed the Azure
PowerShell but can't seem to do anything with it. Any advice on how to configure the custom domain name for my azure web site as well as how to deploy contents to it, preferrably the old school way, would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Azure web site support several development stacks, such as .net, node.js, php, python, and different stack has different deploy process, see more at:

  • With MobileMe Closed: How to forward iweb "web.me..." address to new FTP site and custom domain name?

I had a mobile me "web.me.com..." domain name and know I need to upload to a new FTP site with a new domain.  I know how to do that but am wondering...
Is there a way to forward my old web.me address to the new domain?  I'll probably be using GoDaddy's or 1&1 domain hosting.
There are many people who have my old web.me address and I won't be able to tell them the new address.  I don't want them to go away if they see the "mobile me closed" page and don't know where my new site is at.  I just want it to automatically forward.
    thanks

Its too late to do that as the forward would need to be on the Apple server and its closed now.
The best you can do is to sign up for hosting and get a domain name...

Republish your site from iWeb to the new server...

  • New Domain Controller does not show in our different site's Domain controller's Sites and Services

    Hi,
we have two sites in our AD environment. OMA site and NY site. we have three domain controllers in our OMA site and two domain controllers in our NY site. All our DCs are windows server 2008R2 except one in our OMA site that is 2003R2 the domain
    functional level is also 2003R2.
We decided to raise our functional level to 2008R2. I added a new domain controller in our OMA site and transferred all FESMOS from the DC that was running 2003R2 to this new domain controller.
the issue now is that our NY site does not make any connection with the new domain controller in OMA site. it does not even show it under sites and services. I have checked the DNS settings and everything. if you try to replicate the connections
from NY site it gives the following error: "The naming context is in the process of being removed or is not replicated from the specific server."
can anyone plz tell me why this is happening mt brain is just frozen at this moment and cant figure out why is this happening

Just noticed this replication issue has been going on for a while now but we never noticed until I added new DC. here is the error log for the NY site DC.
    Log Name:      Directory Service
    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-ActiveDirectory_DomainService
    Date:          1/4/2014 8:11:40 AM
    Event ID:      2042
    Task Category: Replication
    Level:         Error
    Keywords:      Classic
    User:          ANONYMOUS LOGON
    Computer:      NORDC1.vertrue.com
    Description:
It has been too long since this machine last replicated with the named source machine. The time between replications with this source has exceeded the tombstone lifetime. Replication has been stopped with this source.
The reason that replication is not allowed to continue is that the two DCs may contain lingering objects.  Objects that have been deleted and garbage collected from an Active Directory Domain Services partition but still exist in the writable partitions
of other DCs in the same domain, or read-only partitions of global catalog servers in other domains in the forest are known as "lingering objects".  If the local destination DC was allowed to replicate with the source DC, these potential lingering object
would be recreated in the local Active Directory Domain Services database.
    Time of last successful replication:
    2013-05-16 15:26:38
Invocation ID of source directory server:
    9236ac56-d046-4632-b072-acbe823c5f6c
    Name of source directory server:
    accde843-11b2-476c-9783-9b29252d0ba5._msdcs.vertrue.com
    Tombstone lifetime (days):
    90
    The replication operation has failed.
    User Action:
The action plan to recover from this error can be found at
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314282.
If both the source and destination DCs are Windows Server 2003 DCs, then install the support tools included on the installation CD.  To see which objects would be deleted without actually performing the deletion run "repadmin /removelingeringobjects
<Source DC> <Destination DC DSA GUID> <NC> /ADVISORY_MODE". The eventlogs on the source DC will enumerate all lingering objects.  To remove lingering objects from a source domain controller run "repadmin /removelingeringobjects <Source
    DC> <Destination DC DSA GUID> <NC>".
If either source or destination DC is a Windows 2000 Server DC, then more information on how to remove lingering objects on the source DC can be found at
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314282 or from your Microsoft support personnel.
If you need Active Directory Domain Services replication to function immediately at all costs and don't have time to remove lingering objects, enable replication by setting the following registry key to a non-zero value:
    Registry Key:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters\Allow Replication With Divergent and Corrupt Partner
Replication errors between DCs sharing a common partition can prevent user and compter acounts, trust relationships, their passwords, security groups, security group memberships and other Active Directory Domain Services configuration data to vary between
DCs, affecting the ability to log on, find objects of interest and perform other critical operations. These inconsistencies are resolved once replication errors are resolved.  DCs that fail to inbound replicate deleted objects within tombstone lifetime
number of days will remain inconsistent until lingering objects are manually removed by an administrator from each local DC.  Additionally, replication may continue to be blocked after this registry key is set, depending on whether lingering objects are
    located immediately.
    Alternate User Action:
Force demote or reinstall the DC(s) that were disconnected.

  • Iweb 09 multiple sites and domains

I have had one iWeb site working properly for the last few years with past iweb versions with no problems. I purposely upgraded to 09' so I could publish multiple sites with individual domains. I created a second and third site and they seemed to up load ok via either the iweb FTP or Cyberduck. (Im not using Mobile me) When I'd go to the web page all I'd see was "under construction". I triple checked if erverything was loaded correctly on the server. They looked just like the original site that had been working and was in the right order.
I got on the phone with Apple yesterday for nearly 3 hours and two different techs. After all their help/suggestions I seemed to have lost my original working site. The site (.sites) shows up in the iWeb library folder and when I click on it to open, iWeb seems to be opening okay as I can see the file menu. However there is NO WINDOW. All I see is my desktop like the window was closed or something. (It wasn't) I've clicked on my other (non working) sites from the same iWeb folder and they open up just fine.
Needless to say, my original problem has now turned into two problems. Apple is confused and has turned the issue over to an engineer and I am waiting to hear back. The tech told me Apple might be adding a software fix soon because others have had uploading multiple sites issues.
Has anyone had a similar experience or suggestions? I'm proficient on the machine but this is ridiculous.

My suggestion would be to ignore the iWeb FTP until it works.
I still keep my sites on separate domain files, publish to a folder and optimize and upload with Web Site Maestro.
Until Apple fixes their FTP and adds optimization or rebuilds iWeb to create less cumbersome files, this feature is useless to anybody who wants their website to download in a reasonable time and have an even chance of loading in IE.

  • Multiple sites, and domains, only one log file is working

I have a custom install of Entropy latest version for apache 1.3
OS X 10.4.5 on an Xserve dual g5
Everything is running fantastic save for one thing.
The sites that I have set up for multiple domains and multiple websites only the site that is in the top of the List in Server Administration under Web and so forth... I have the top site (which is our own site) and the others under that gain no hits and stats information because everything is being logged under the top site. Does this make sense?
I use Awstats to generate information for the various sites but only the top site generates hits and it gets the information for everything.
I am using entropy because I needed a level of security to avoid spammers on our guestbook and contact forms and entropy has the ability to use turing test.
Our various sites are now requesting custom stats and information but cannot get this to work. I have set different file names for each of the sites logs both hits and error log.
What do I need to check and what information can I supply to you from my custom install that will help you help me get this working.
Thank you everyone for your help.
    Joseph

Add me to the "me too" list.
Could it have anything to do with the difference between a "local host aliases" and "virtual hosting"? Or is that just related to Mail service?
Maybe it belongs in another thread, but what are most folks using for log analysis? I've got 40 or so virtually hosted domains that I'd like to track so I can kill the sites that aren't doing my company any good...

  • IWeb 1.1(.1) and multiple Domain.sites

There are (still) a lot of references to Domain.sites resides in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder, this is no longer true with iWeb 1.1(.1).
iWeb 1.1(.1) can handle multiple Domain.sites, and once you double click a Domain.sites outside of ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder, ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder is no longer needed (unless you double click the Domain.sites inside ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder, again).
Once you double click a Domain.sites outside of ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder, you can move iWeb folder out of ~/Library/Application Support folder, and iWeb WON'T create another ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
    huh?

iWeb 1.1.x multiple domains handling is quite low
key, and for a good reason. Although, iWeb 1.1.x can
handle multiple Domain.sites, however, there is no
way (that I know of) to create a fresh Domain.sites
    from iWeb.
Some one prove me wrong, please.
Hmmmmm, I AM able to create a new Domain.sites file using iWeb 1.1.1; see this Apple support article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303670
I've got a number of different sites that I had been keeping in different folders in a new folder that I named "Sites" that I kept where the default Domain.sites file was stored, i.e.,
    for "Site1": ~username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Sites/Site1/Domain.sites
    for "Site2": ~username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Sites/Site2/Domain.sites
    etc.
Prior to version 1.1.1, when I'd open one of the Domain.sites files, iWeb would automatically create a Domain.sites file in the ~username/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder, then when I was done making changes to that file, I'd have to copy it back into the subfolder. Now with version 1.1.1, iWeb does NOT create a new file but rather just uses the Domain.sites file from where it is opened and makes that the new default location. To create a new site, just move this folder containing the Domain.sites file that iWeb now uses as the default to a different location and start iWeb by clicking on the iWeb application: you'll then get a new site. If the last opened Domain.sites file was in the username/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder, then moved to a different location, and then you open iWeb by clicking on the iWeb application, you will be prompted to either "Quit", "Create Domain…", or "Choose Domain…"; click "Create Domain…" and you'll then be asked to choose a location for a new Domain file; select a new location then iWeb opens with a new site.
    Hope I'm making sense.

  • Multiple domains names and web sites with only one SLS and one static IP

I tried to find a post on this topic but I still can't find what needs to be done.
SLS is configured for one domain with one web site and it's working well. We will call it domain1.com. Here is the config:
    Static IP: 69.x.x.x
    DNS setting under Server Admin:
    hostname: server.domain1.com
Two DNS entries under domain1.com with:
    www - alias - server.domain1.com
server - Machine - 10.0.1.x (fixe IP for server on LAN)
    Web settings under Server Admin:
    server.domain1.com - 10.0.1.x - Port 80
Domain1.com is managed with DynDNS Custom DNS Service with 1 record:
    domain1.com - A-record - 69.x.x.x
I want to host a second domain (for a website) called domain2.com. It's also registred at DynDNS and I have custom DNS setting to configure.
What's need to be done to have both domains with seperate web site on SLS under DNS and Web settings (beside the fact that I will have 2 different folders with the website files in it). I understand that I will need a new entry in the DNS for the new domain (domain2.com) and also an entry in the Web Service pane. But what are the details.
    Thanks.

When you said, "you don't need to do CNAME for both sites…", would this method still allow me to use personal web addresses for both sites?
Yes. With "Ordinary Forwarding" you normally just type your .Mac url (web.mac.com/username/sitename) into a form at the place where you have your name.
I thought I was using 'web.mac.com' as the 'www' CNAME (alias) for my personal domain name (web address), so that when someone typed in my personal domain name they would 'go' to the domain registration location, which would then pass it on to the .Mac server, where my web site is hosted.
That's exactly right. It's just not the only way to do that. Ordinary Forwarding is another way, but it differs in terms of what appears in the address bar of the browser. Either you will see web.mac.com/username/.... or, if you add "masking", you will see your personal name for all pages. The CNAME method results in a address bar that reads www.myname.com/sitename/pagename.html.
    Am I way off?

  • Multiple Web Sites with Personal Domain Names - Overview

I have read through the last 10 pages of these discussions and have almost worked this out, but I need some help.
    Problem:
I want to publish and edit two separate web sites with their own, individual, personal web addresses
from the same user account on the same Mac using iWeb '08 (2.0.2) and my .Mac account
    _So far:_
I have purchased and registered the two domain names (with Cheap-DomainRegistration.com)
I have configured the CNAME to point to web.mac.com, and "Set up a Personal Domain" in iWeb successfully, but using a separate Mac for each web site.
    The two sites work great.
_What (I think) I need to know:_
(excuse me for copying these posts out, but I can't find a way to link them to this post)
    1) Should I be using iWebSites as suggested by Old Toad (posted Jan 24 in response to StAnNe's "Multiple Websites--HELP!!!")?
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
    2) Should I be using Mireille's approach (also posted Jan 24 in response to StAnNe's "Multiple Websites--HELP!!!")?
Yes you are correct in the thought that with a family pack you can use different accounts and that is the easiest way to upload with one click to .mac. But it is still possible to publish differents sites to one .mac account if that is all one has. Even if the sites are in one domain file each purchased mysite.com domain name purchased can be pointed to a different page in the site
    Look at it this way
    Original Poster has
site1 page 1 page 2 and so on
then he/she has brothersite page 1 and so on.
They each have a domain name purchase wherever
then site1domain.com is forwarded to site 1 page1
and brotherdomain.com is forwarded to brothersite page 1.
Even though both sites are in the same file they do not have anything to do with each other.
This is one possibility there are others but for a novice user this could be the way to go for simplicity.
(Mireille, if you're there, can you clarify what you said - thank you)
    3) Would I use Roddy's fix (posted Jan 23 in response to canadensis' "Publishing Multiple Websites?")?
Here's an example of how you can separate two websites that are on the same domain file.
    Quit iWeb
Create a new folder on your desktop and call it "iWeb Sites".
Inside this folder create two more - Website A, Website B.
Go to Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb and copy your domain file - command C
Paste this into folders A and B - command V - and also paste a copy of it somewhere else - like in Docs - in case you make a mistake!
Double click the domain file in the folder Website A - this will launch iWeb.
In the left column, delete site B, save and quit iWeb.
Double click the domain file in the folder Website B to launch iWeb.
Delete website A, save and quit.
Drop the iWeb sites folder into your Home Folder.
If you want quick access to this folder you can highlight it and do command L to create an alias to leave on the desktop.
From now on, to launch any site in iWeb you open its folder in the iWebsites folder and double click the domain file.
This is not necessary when you are working on only one site as iWeb saves the domain file of the last site you were working on to Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb. When you open the iWeb application, the last site you worked on will be launched.
    Summary:
I'm not sure if some of the answers in previous discussions allow for personal domain names, which is what I need.
I would be very grateful for any suggestions as I'm getting bogged down.
    Many Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Multiple Domain files, Multiple Sites, Publishing Problems

I am frustrated beyond belief. I'm an old hand-coder, coming from BBEdit, but I've been using iWeb almost exclusively since its release, because it really is a great product for quick, easy, stylish designs.
However.... In that year, my collection of sites has grown to 12. Discovering that iWeb becomes a major dog when dealing with that much material, I found and followed the instructions - today - to separate my sites into individual domain files, and edit them individually. iWeb is much snappier and publishing goes much more quickly.
The problem? Well... after editing, "Publish to .Mac" rarely works. Only "Publish All to .Mac" will get the site online (something about an error with the index.html file). But "Publish All to .Mac", I've just discovered, DELETES the other websites that I have previous published. All day I've been doing updates and publishing my sites, only to discover that the uploads have all been wiped out by the most recent one!
I'm a big enough fellow to admit that my knowledge isn't total nor perfect - so please, would someone out there with a better handle on iWeb than I (preferably someone who actually deals with multiple domain files rather than someone who thinks they can guess the problem) please clue me into how we make use of this program non-destructively?
I suppose I could always publish everything to folders and upload it to my iDisk (which itself remains ridiculously slow after how many years now? Sheesh!), but that detracts from the elegance of the .Mac integration, the counter features, - not to mention the little fact that I'm a paying .Mac customer and this darn thing should just work, no?

    Mark:
I was where you were also. You should give iWebSites a try. It's to iWeb what iPhoto Library Manager is to iPhoto.
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want. Just remember to put a copy of your current Domain.sites file somewhere else on your HD in case the splitting gets messed up. It went very smoothly for me and I now manage 19 or so sites.

  • How to create a muse site in various languages with multiple domains

I have been asked to create a website for a product. A very simple website with maybe one or two pages and one product for sale for which the client would like Paypal as the payment gateway. Simple right?
No! This client would like to market their product into Europe, they would like to purchase multiple European domains ( .fr, .de for example).
So how on earth can I do this? I will be using Muse for build and Business Catalyst for hosting.
Bearing in mind the client will not want to pay for separately hosted sites. Is there a way of translating the text for each domain. Or could I assign multiple domains but direct them to different home pages within the same site?
I haven’t a clue how to problem solve this.

I am sure that this topic has been faced already but I cannot find enough information to really dig into a solution.
I have a macmini server with two IPs let say x.x.x.12 and x.x.x.13 .
The server is set up on the first IP. It has his primary zone, machine record, mail aslias and www alias.
Lets call the server domain server.domain1.com
Everything works fine I have a couple of local users and a couple of LDAP users. Just to test the machine setup.
I can send and receive emails using any of the users as [email protected]
Now I would like to have another domain, domain2.com in the same server .
The final goal is to have users under different domains. They have their own email box, calendar, etc.
It will be preferable that I can share the same username with different domains. But I can live without that option.
My first test was to have the second domain called server.domain2.com using the second IP. x.x.x.13 .
For that I created another Primary Zone with domain2.com as machine record of x.x.x.13 . To use the second IP I simply create another Ethernet interface on the macmini.
In the Mail -> Advance settings I added the host aliases as well as virtual hosting domains for domains2.com.
With this setting I can send emails as [email protected] or [email protected] but when I replay to their messages I get a "Relay access denied" error from server.domain1.com .
I also tryed another domain pointing to x.x.x.12, the same as server.domain1.com . I did not create any extra Primary Zone but the local host aliases and the virtual hosting domains.
Same issue. I can send but I get a "Relay access " error.
As you might notice I am a novice on servers settings. I just try to recreate a similar environment common to Virtual Hosting providers for my own website playground but I cannot cut through this email configuration obstacle.
Any significant meaning that can be leading me to learn how to do it will be very very appreciated . (beside lynda, com tutorials that I followed already but do not mention multiple domains for mails).
    Thanks

the problem I try to solve is to manage multiple domains in one MacMini Server.
    Having two IPs is secondary.
I would like that each domains has his own users with emails, iCals, Wiki and web sites.
The main problem is having emails to work for any additional domain beside the default one on the machine IP.
I also got an additional IP address to be used on the same server hoping that it make things easier but apparently is making things more difficult.

  • Multiple Sites, Multiple Domains, one .mac account?

So, is this possible? Can you create multiple sites in iWeb, save them to a .mac account, and then purchase domain names for each of those sites and have one assigned to each? I'm assuming no, but I'm seeing if someone knows how or someone has some workaround to keep it on .mac, but have multiple domain names for my sites?
    Thanks!!

    No.

Yes and no. While .Mac does offer Domain name hosting in the form of a CNAME alias, only one Domain name is available per .Mac account. .Mac is not a registrar for multiple Domains. You can host multiple sites on your .Mac account, but if you desire a 'Domain name' for each site, you will need to purchase the Domains from a registrar like Yahoo, GoDaddy, 1&1, etc, and then forward these Domains to the appropriate sites, hosted on your .Mac account.

The "workaround" would be to utilize Domain forwarding from a Domain name registrar, using the .Mac urls for the forwarding address(es).
