Multiple sound source question

Can I use a Usb mic and sound source input ie synth output running thru my rme pcie card into logic simultaneously?

Yes. You'll have to set up an *Aggregate Device* in *Audio MIDI Setup.*

  • Multiple Sound Sources

    I am trying to pla a new two room system, and unless I go to a fairly high-end reciever, the sound for the second room can only be from an analog source. Can I hook up both the digital (optical and/or HDMI) and the analog (RCA plugs) at the same, so that the sound will go to both rooms?
    I know it will be the saem audio, not lookign for two streams, i just want to get the music form teh Apple TV out to the second room as well.

    Thanks Christoph -
    Any docs or tips on achieving this? I just took a look at the Audio / MIDI Utility and it's about as obvious as why it's not in System Preferences with the Sound Settings...

  • How can I use the iPad as a sound source for my Mac?

    I would like to be able to record sound off my iPad, onto my Mac.  (I'm using a musical app that only allows me to save short recordings, so I would like to plug my iPad into my Mac and record the music into my Mac, into Audacity or something.)
    I know you can't just connect the iPad from the headphone jack, so I'm wondering what equipment I would need.
    I've heard that the iPad camera connector can be used to export audio out, does anyone know how that works?
    Or, are there any iPad apps available that will make exportable sound recordings of any sounds your iPad is making (from any other app?)  You know, like a screen shot, but for sound instead?
    (BTW, I am not interested in streaming music from my iPad.  I already know how to do that.  I'm trying to export audio from a musical instrument app I'm using.)

    Unfortunately that link doesn't provide the info I'm looking for...
    Answering part of my own question: it ISN'T possible to record audio on the iPad from one app to another. Technically not possible, so there are no apps that serve this purpose.
    So, I'm still looking for details on how to connect my iPad to my Mac and use it as a sound source.  I would like to record directly onto my Mac whatever sounds my iPad is outputting, by connecting the iPad to the Mac's audio input in some way.

  • Multiple authentication sources with the same category

    Quote from portal help:
    "Multiple authentication sources can use the same category. However, because the prefix is prepended to the user and group names, you need to be certain that the domains involved do not have different users or groups with the same name. That is, if a LizaR user exists on one domain, and a LizaR user exists on another domain, they must be the same user because only one user will be created."
    Fine, let's say I am "certain that the domains involved do not have different users or groups with the same name".
    But there is other concern I have here. I want to know how portal will RECOGNIZE which authentication source to use?
    Let's say I have 2 auth sources AS1 and AS2 with the same category MyAuth. AS1 use WS1 to authenticate against LDAP1 and AS2 use WS2 to authenticate against LDAP2.
    Now, I have a user - Dmitry. I am trying to login into portal and I selected AS1 to do actual authentication. My question is how portal will CHOOSE which auth source to use because all portal knows about me is <MyAuth\Dmitry> that is came from portal login screen? Both auth sources match this pattern so seems like portal may choose any of them.
    Does it mean that portal will try to authenticate again AS1 and if this attempt failed then you AS2?
    I didn't find any explanation in portal documentation.
    Thank you.
    Edited by Bryazgin at 12/12/2007 10:42 AM

    Yes, it seems you are right. As soon as portal have found CORRECT user there is no issue anymore because user is bind to unique auth source that actually has been used to created this user.
    I think my main confusion come from the fact that having <Category> and <UserName> is not enough to UNIQUE identify user in portal as soon as <Category> can be the SAME for different auth sources.
    Let's have you have user created by AS1. According API this user created by this AS1 will have 4 different names, like sUniqueName, sAuthenticationName, sLoginName and sDisplayName. But portal is going to search user in portal database BASED on information that is available in login form - <Category> and <User Name>. At this point portal has no idea about sUniqueName and all this things.
    Now if there were 2 users in database that have been created by 2 different auth sources with the same <category> and <User Name> then I don't understand how portal will figured out which user to choose from. I guess <Category> value somehow MUST participate in sUniqueName value. <Category> has to be involve in process of finding user in database. In this scenario 2 users will be retrieved from database and what is important these 2 users are different, they have been created by different auth sources. Now question became which user is CORRECT one?

  • Bursting with multiple data sources

    Hello all,
    I am working in a retail environment and we are building reports for the stores. There are several reports and they all receive the same reports. We are using BIP Entreprise with the bursting feature and it works very well.
    The problem is that there are too many reports and we would like to combine all reports of the same store within the same PDF. We use the multiple data source feature and was able to concatenate all reports together.
    Using this new report and template, we can not make the bursting functionality to work properly: the bursted report do not contain all the required report components.
    For example, I have 2 queries A and B each producing reports for 3 stores: 2, 4 and 5. Without bursting, the output is as is:
    Query A - Store 2
    Query A - Store 4
    Query A - Store 5
    Query B - Store 2
    Query B - Store 4
    Query B - Store 5
    With bursting into a file using the store number, I get the following:
    File 1 - Store 2 - Query A
    File 2 - Store 4 - Query A
    File 3 - Store 5 - Query A
    + Store 2 - Query B
    + Store 4 - Query B
    + Store 5 - Query B
    I would like to have the following output:
    File 1 - Store 2 - Query A
    + Store 2 - Query B
    File 2 - Store 4 - Query A
    + Store 4 - Query B
    File 3 - Store 5 - Query A
    + Store 5 - Query B
    The main question is: can this be done using BI Pub Enterprise? We using version 10.1.3.3.2
    If it is, can you provide me with help on how to configure either/or the requests and template to accomplish this task?
    I create an SR and Oracle Support does not have an answser and suggested that somebody in the Forum might help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Minh

    I would like to have the following output:
    File 1 - Store 2 - Query A + Store 2 - Query B
    File 2 - Store 4 - Query A + Store 4 - Query B
    File 3 - Store 5 - Query A + Store 5 - Query B
    the bursting level should be give at
    File 1 - Store 2 - Query A + Store 2 - Query B
    so the tag in the xml has to be split by common to these three rows.
    since the data is coming from the diff query, and the data is not going to be under single tag.
    you cannot burst it using concatenated data source.
    But you can do it, using the datatemplate, and link the query and get the data for each file under a single query,
    select distinct store_name from all-stores
    select * from query1 where store name = :store_name === 1st query
    select * from query2 where store name = :store_name === 2nd query
    define the datastructure the way you wanted,
    the xml will contain something like this
    <stores>
    <store> </store> - for store 2
    <store> </store> - for store 3
    <store> </store> - for store 4
    <store> </store> - for store 5
    <stores>
    now you can burst it at store level.

  • Multiple xml source file loading ?

    Hi,
    I've already managed to set some multiple flat file as source, but the question is :
    How to set some multiple XML source files ? (to read ally xml files stored in a folder for instance)
    I link the XML file directly in topology instead of doing it in my model. So how can I change the file name dynamically ?
    Any advice ?
    Thanks
    Pierre-Henri

    Hi,
    all right I followed the explanation on this link :
    Looping a folder for pattern files
    The set up is ok, but I generate this error message :
    The scenario did not end properly.
    When I'm trying to run the interface alone (without v_FileName obviously), I get this error :
    java.sql.SQLException: Table not found: D in statement ...
    I created my XML model, then I defined it's ressource model as D:\mypath\001.xml. Into the interface, as my model uses XML technology, I can only use LKM SQL to SQL knowledge model.
    When I look at operator, I can see it tries to run this following SQL code :
    select
    attribute 1,
    attribute 2,
    from     schema.D:mypath001.xml CD
    where     (1=1)
    schema.D:mypath001.xml is probably the wrong part :)
    Do you have an idea to get your example (on txt files) running with some xml files ?
    thanks for your time

  • Multiple Database Sources

    Hello everyone,
    I am currently on vacation and do not have access to a computer with sdk/re installed and had a question to ask from a friend.
    Can I connect to multiple db sources by registering multiple drivers, for instance:
    try{
        Class.forName("net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver");
        conn1 = DriverManager.getConnection(
            "jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://hostname1");
        Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
        conn2 = DriverManager.getConnection(
            "jdbc:mysql://hostname2");
    catch ...... or something of the like.
    Thanks

    Theoretically yes, you can use the same concept to connect to all databases.
    Athough I dont'n know what you ment when you said with "transfer some table information". You mean data from tables or data about tables (column types, column default values etc.)
    But generally, you have to be aware of differences among databases, e.g. Oracle uses SEQUENCE for autoicrementing the ID columns, MYSQL or MS Access does not work this way, Access have "Yes|No" column type, Oracle does not have something like this etc. Also, there's a lot of differences among JDBC drivers for databases in their capabilities even differences among JDBC drivers for the same database but from different vendors.
    Portability in theory is nice thing, but when you deal with databases you'll see that praxys is something else.
    Finally, if you're sutisfied with answers, reward us with some dukes!

  • CFTransaction & Multiple data sources

    We have the need to update to multiple data sources under
    CFTransaction. We have two MSSQL databases so I was able to create
    a view in one to the other and that works (unless someone knows of
    a problem that could cause). But we also have a MSAccess db that
    gets hit too under the same CFTransaction. CF does not allow you to
    have multiple data sources under one CFTransaction. If all the
    tranasction control is on the db side, why does CF care if there
    are different data sources?
    Thanks.

    As I said in my original post, in order for a transaction to
    span multiple databases, you need to do what's called "2-phase
    commit" or "distributed transactions". This is not a trivial thing
    to do, nor is it something that is often needed (especially in
    Coldfusion, which is 99% of the time talking to a single database).
    Why do you need to do 2-phase commit? and why isn't it
    trivial?
    "2PC is an acronym for 2 Phase Commit. This is a protocol by
    which data being committed to a database is committed in two
    phases. In the first phase, the transaction processor checks that
    all parts of the transaction can be committed. In the second phase,
    all parts of the transaction are committed. If any part of the
    transaction indicates in the first phase that it cannot be
    committed, the second phase does not occur. ODBC does not support
    two-phase commits."
    http://docs.openlinksw.com/virtuoso/twopcimplementation.html
    I don't think Access supports 2-phase commit. Access isn't
    really intended for the kinds of things that need 2-phase commit,
    which Microsoft readily admits (hence MS SQL Server).
    > My thought is that it is not allowed because CF only
    remembers one data source per cftransaction therefore can only send
    one commit or rollback instruction. If that's the case, it sounds
    like a simple enhancement.
    No, this isn't allowed because distributed transactions is a
    non-trivial thing. This isn't all handled on the database side, as
    you reference. If you're dealing with one datasource, yes, it does.
    Once you pull in a 2nd datasource, you need something that can talk
    to all databases involved (a transaction coordinator) and 1) check
    to make sure everything can be committed safely then 2) commit
    everything (hence 2-phase commit).
    Basically, you're trying to do something that's non-trivial,
    you don't understand why it's non-trivial, so you're getting
    frustrated. I realize you're not a Java shop. I was simply trying
    to explain to you why it was non-trivial, and a method to work
    around that if you so desire.

  • [SOLVED] Make 2 sound sources into 1

    What I want to do is take two sound sources (plughw:0,0 & plughw:1,0) and make them into either one plug or a whole new (virtual) sound card with a plug...
    I am using ALSA (no PulseAudio, JACK or OSS), system updated to latest kernel, etc...
    My goal is to have just 1 device that, when recorded, streams both System Sound and Microphone sound...
    Help is appreciated!

    You might be able to do that directly with your recording software. ffmpeg should be able to do that with custom filter chains and the amix filter

  • [SOLVED] ALSA multiple audio source playback

    I noticed that by default alsa doesn't allow for playing from two or more sources simultaneously. For instance playing a youtube video while already playing music from mpd will result in having only sound from mpd. How can I enable playback of multiple audio sources in alsa? Thanks

    I put this in /etc/asound.conf
    pcm.dsp {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "dmix"
    and left the settings in mpd.conf like this:
    audio_output {
    type "alsa"
    name "ALSA Device"
    The mixing now works with multiple audio sources! Thank you.

  • BI+ Reporting With Multiple Data Sources

    Hi -
    We've been using BI+ Reports with multiple data sources on separate grids. We are wondering if there is a better way to ensure the user has their point of view bar in sync between the the data sources. In our case, both Data Sources are separate HFM applications with all the dimensions identical except the account which is defined on the report. We are not using Metadata Management.
    I'm aware of the "Merge Equivalent Prompts" in the Preferences > Financial Reporting window, but this does not always ensure the users have the same point of view.
    What practice are other companies using to make sure the user runs the reports accurately with both point of view bars pulling the same entity/year/period.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your answer, however my question - I know it looks quite messy - is not directly related to data templates, my problem is that at the moment I am using a stored procedure following - almost exactly - what another procedure does in oracle EBS to call a BI publisher report.
    1. This procedure populates some temporary table with the xml data where the concurrent request picks it up and uses it to populate the BI publisher template.
    2. However I can't go and specify the XML location in my data template as this is not an option for us (i.e. reading the xml from the temporary table), so I am looking for another way to populate the BI publisher template (Note: I can't as well include the SQL queries in my Data template).
    Thanks ;)

  • Multiple sound car

    I am useing windows xp and it says I can use multiple sound cards. I was wondering if I could use multiple sound blaster li've cards in one machine? If so what is the limit of cards other than the number of slots on the motherboard.
    Mike

    I was told the same thing about putting identical cards in a computer would be a problem. I think mostly because of address, irq, and driver conflicts. Right now I have an old sound blaster card from my hp computer installed into a mother board running Win XP with no problems yet but I have not been able to play around with it yet.
    My recording software will let me set the input device. I have to get set up with two audio sources to see if I can record tracks with each sound card at one time. This will tell me that everything is ok. But these are two different audio devices and many people have said they have had no problems doing this.
    I am also wondering about the audio controll panel. If two sound devices can coexist how do you control the other inputs on each card. Like the cd in, aux audio, mic. s/pdif ect. Doses each card get its own audio mixer panel?
    Right now an earlier post claims to be able to use both cards of the same type.

  • Noise with multiple sounds

    When playing multiple sounds at the same time through ram preview, everything is fine. However, if I export such a composition, the sound will be all noisy and messed up.
    Example of how it sounds inside after effects:
    http://web.telia.com/~u87309837/Comp%201b.wav
    And after exporting:
    http://web.telia.com/~u87309837/Comp%201.rar
    I'm running After Effects 6.5.
    Any ideas?
    I tried putting the sounds in Premiere (1.5) and exporting, and that was just fine. Unfortunatly, I also want to use time remapping, and premiere doesn't have that feature.
    Thanks

    >However, I want the sound to be that high. It seems, as I said, to work
    >in premiere. Why wont it work in after effects? Now i have to change
    >the volume of the music, for example, to avoid this. Is it really
    >supposed to be this way?
    Please read up on audio processing. The perceived loudness of an audio mix has in large parts nothing to do with the actual level of the separate files. Insisting on them being full volume will never get correct results, even less in a program like AE that only does linear mixing and resampling and does not figure in some of the logarithmic specifics of sound, does not provide functions for interpolating missing samples nor compensates for pitch and shift, which is what happens when you time-remap.
    It would also be interesting to know how you generated the files in the first place - they may already contain clipped samples and other garbage that skews the results.
    The whole matter is further complicated by embedded audio in video files needing to follow certain rules about reference levels - just like the video may need broadcast-safe colors, the audio needs a reference level which can be anything from -18 dB to +3dB. If it is not obbeyed, the audio will get clipped.
    Therefore the files need to be normalized in the context of the final mix volume, which apparently is what AE does not, but Premiere and dedicated audio programs do. So unless you are willing to do the math all yourself and manually adjust the levels in AE so they perfectly level out after the mixdown, it sounds more logical in a program that is tailored to do that much better.
    Obviously this will require some work and you will not be able to do much with your old versions of your programs. As a minor, you should give the free Audacity a spin which allows some time-stretching trickery. Beyond that you will certainly require a commercial sequencing program such as Cubase, Audition or whatever that allow you to load in video and sound for synchronous treatment. As a minor, if you really are stuck with your minimalistic combo of AE and Premiere, use Audacity to double the sampling rate of your source files to 96kHz At least it does some audio antialiasing and the resampled files should behave a tiny bit better when remapping them in AE.

  • Multiple sounds, Multiple Frustrations

    Hey all,
    I haven't gotten any responses to my previous sound
    questions, but I assume that is because the answer is obvious and I
    should know better. However, I am still struggling. I have a few
    basic questions that make up my lack of understanding of sound in
    flash. An example is... I have a narrator reading off questions of
    a quiz. The first time I create the sound object "narrationSound",
    I have him read an intro. Next, it needs to move on to the first
    question, etc. I try to detect when the sound ends by using
    onSoundComplete, which works once it seems. I do use the same sound
    ID for the next sound, so perhaps I am not deleting the first one
    properly. I don't want to create a new sound ID for every sound,
    because the sounds are played on the fly, and could come up in any
    order. It would be hard to keep checking for the end of every
    sound, even if only one of 50 were playing. I pasted some code in
    an earlier post, but have since been changing mine to try different
    stuff. I think there is an overall understanding of how sound works
    that I just don't have. I come from Director where you can assign
    sounds to a sound channel, and when you replace the sound in the
    channel with a new one, the old one stops and new one starts. So
    you could control narration by just dealing with one sound channel.
    I would like to try to do this on some level with the sound ID. Any
    thoughts?

    There are 8 sound channels. Only the first two can be
    manipulated via
    the score. The others can only be controlled via lingo
    commands. Check
    the help documents.
