Multiple Speakers don't work

Hi all,
I can select the Airport Express "Speaker" in iTunes, or the local Computer as an ouput - both work. But when I try to select Multiple Speakers to send the audio to both, it displays this error:
"An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "Bathroom". An unkown error occurred. (-3256)"
Can anyone suggest a solution?

Ok, found another thread that addressed this issue. problem solved:

  • Multiple speakers don't work after upgrade to 10.5.1 because of firewall

It looks like in OS X10.5.1 something changed in the firewall that doesn't allow commo with multiple airport expresses. I have the firewall configured to "allow only essential services" which in 10.5.0 allowed airtunes to work properly with multiple airport speakers now under OS X10.5.1 iTunes (7.5) gives me error-3256 and the firewall log says Nov 17 12:53:01 powerbook Firewall[37]: Deny iTunes data in from xxx::xxx:xxx:xxx:xxx:6002 uid = 0 proto=17 (where I think the xxx's are the MAC address of one of the airport base stations which i didn't include here)... what to do?

I went to the Security tab in Systems Preferences. Chose Firewall, and deselected "Allow only essential services" and instead selected "Set access for specific services and applications." I then chose the + sign at the bottom left corner of the list widow underneath. There I chose iTunes and added it to the list of allowed incoming connections. I am ow able to play iTunes at multiple locations (at the computer and through my AirPort Express using AirTunes.
What a pain. And frankly I don't yet understand what this means for my security. I'm not sure I'm liking this new firewall setup as much as I did in 10.4, which seemed easier.
Don't quote me on this, but I am beginning to wonder if this setting accomplishes the same thing that Lil Snitch used to do. And if so, well bravo Apple for building it in. That being said, this was neither easy nor intuitive. I'm going to have to read up on this feature to fully understand it and determine if my firewall is even on or not with this setting chosen. I have no idea. I am hardwired to a Router/firewall, so I'm somewhat secure, but what this means for my AirPort connection... well I have no idea.
But, by gosh, my AirTunes works in multiple locations now. Sheesh.

  • Upgraded to yosemite now my speakers don't work and i can't play videos on Facebook.

When i play a video on face book I'm told i need to upgrade flashplayer, i wasn't even aware i had it downloaded! I have got rid of flash player (i think ) and now I'm told i need to download FP before i can watch videos. I can't play games on FB either and my speakers don't work.
I wish i hadn't upgraded to Yosemite to be honest as i prefer the old layout and it seems to have caused me problems. Everything was working fine before the Upgrade to Yosemite.

  • My iPhone 4 speakers don't work with music it only works when I get calls

When I try to play music or videos my iPhone speakers don't work but when I get a phone call it works and I've tried everything to get them to work but no result yet. The first time it happened it was because there was lint in my speakers but I cleaned them out and now that its happened again I can't figure out what's wrong.

    OK, let's try a reset.
A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

  • EXTERNAL SPEAKERS DON'T WORK

External speakers don't work. They are LABTEC LCS 2420 speakers. The internal speakers with RealTek driver works fine. I have an HP Pavilion 23 touchsmart All-In-One PC with windows 8. I plugged the speakers in the headphone port then tried the audio jack in the back with the same resullt. When I right click on the sound icon and click on playback devices and riight click  in the open area i checked  show disabled and disconnected devices only the speakers realtek icon appears. Do I need to download other drivers and how should I do this?

Try the following: Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices > in the 'Playback' tab you should see the ports (rear and headphone) > R-Click the one that you are using for your external speakers and make it the default device.
    Trust this helps.

The User Guide is available at http://support.apple.com/manuals/ or downloadable from iTunes as an iBook.
Under what circumstances? Have you tried a reset? I always worry when people talk about "speakers" - if you are referring to the bottom of the phone, there is only the one.

  • Built-In Audio Output Speakers Don't Work

My Built-In speakers don't work on my Macbook Pro anymore.
I plugged headphones into the headphone jack last night when watching a film, now all of a sudden when I remove the headphones my built in speakers dont work.
When I try to turn up the volume I get the circle with a line through it telling me it can't be changed.
I went to system preferences and it says my speakers can't be configured and my Master volume track is un-highlighted so It can't be changed.

  • My iPhone's speakers don't work

My iPhone's speakers don't work when I play music or the sounds of apps, but if I get a call they work. What can I do?
Some people told me they can change my phone because it's a hardware problem, but I bought at USA, I live Peru. thanks

The iPhone includes a single speaker.
If no change after restoring the iPhone with iTunes - especially after restoring as a new iPhone or not from the backup, the iPhone has a hardware problem.
The iPhone includes a one year warranty and for an iPhone purchased in the U.S., the warranty will be honored in the U.S. only.

  • External speakers don't work with Yosemite

I have just upgraded my iMac to Yosemite and now my external speakers don't work.
They are there to be used under System Preferences -> Sound as "Bose USB Audio"
But when I select them I get no sound and "The selected device has no output controls"
I do get sound if I select the Built-in Internal Speakers
The Bose speakers worked fine under Mavericks.
Can anyone help me get them working again ?

Had similar issues with Bose Companion 5 after Yosemite installation. Tried most suggestions posted here without success.
But Birkers' post about plugging in/out analog headphones from Bose puck gave me an idea.
    1. Removed Bose USB cable from iMac (Late 2014 Retina 5K / Yosemite 10.10)
         - confirm that Bose disappears from Sound panel in System Preferences
    2. Played music through internal speakers - OK
    3. Played music through 2nd Display speaker - OK
    4. Re-connected Bose USB cable to a different USB port
         - confirm that Bose appears in Sound panel in System Preferences
    5. - Bingo! Sound now playing trough Bose system

  • External UCube speakers don't work after awakening from sleep mode since 10.7.5 upgrade

Ever since I upgraded to 10.7.5 when I wake my computer from sleep mode...my external UCube speakers don't work unless I unplug them and plug them back in. I've already tried resetting the SMC. It recognizes and shows the speakers in the sound preferences...but no sound unless I reconnect the usb cable. Worked fine in 10.7.4
Any ideas? Its ridiculous all the audio problems being reported.

I have a mac mini (A1283) with OS 10.7.4. Upon upgrading to 10.7.5 it did not start up again. Instead, the light was on and the hard drive did not start up. The light on the connected USB mouse was not lit.
    My solution:
    Cold start with Command-v pressed.
This should start Verbose mode (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492 ).
What happened on my mac mini was that the grey startup screen with the Apple logo appeared for a long while before the login screen came.
Maybe Cmd-v set open firmware params and fixed some corruption.
Anyway: my mac mini works again.

  • Internal speakers don't work

My husband uses the dual USB late 2001 iBook more than I do, mainly with Toast and a Griffin iMic to copy our old vinyl records to CDs, and to run VirtualPC for his PC model railroad design app. He does all this in OS 9.2.2.
I used the iBook yesterday, and discovered that the internal speakers aren't working at all. (He hadn't noticed!) No startup chime, no alert beeps, nothing. The sound settings are not set to "mute". I rebooted in OS X (version 10.1, the original, which we've never upgraded), and it didn't make any difference. Still no sound.
If we plug in a set of headphones or external speakers, they will work, playing the startup chime and all other sounds.
It's never been taken apart, so it's unlikely that the speaker cables have been accidentally disconnected.
So far, I've tried the following, none of which helped: trashing the Sound prefs in OS 9 and restarting; resetting the PRAM; starting in OS X and then restarting in Open Firmware, resetting the NVRAM and then resetting the PRAM again. I also tried the hint in This Post - restarting with the headphones connected and then disconnecting them. And I tried plugging the iMic into a USB port, and the headphones into the iMic, and restarting and then disconnecting. No use! The iBook Audio Update was already installed, so that's not it.
We've compared the iBook's OS 9.2.2 Sound control panel with the one on a 7300 also running 9.2.2, and notice one interesting thing. When the iBook is freshly rebooted, the Sound > Speakers tab has the headphone icon present and highlighted, even when the headphones aren't connected. One can plug in the external speakers, and select the speakers icon, and they'll work. But it always defaults back to a highlighted headphone icon upon restart - even when the speakers are plugged in. The 7300's Speakers tab does not show any headphone icon at all, unless the headphones are actually connected. But this is only in OS 9. I don't see a comparable setting in the OS X System Prefs, where I can check on the speaker settings.
It's as if the iBook's sound port thinks the headphones are connected, even when they're not. Could this be a hardware problem with the port, or some kind of logic board problem?
My next step will probably be a reinstall of both OS's.
    Dorothy

    Ronda and Dave2,
    Thanks for responding.
I'm beginning to think it has to be a hardware problem. It happens in both OS's, and when booting from the OS 9 install CD that came with the iBook - no startup chime at all. But the chime is there when either headphones or external speakers are hooked up.
I did restart with Command-Option-O-F, got into Open Firmware, and followed the instructions for resetting the NVRAM.
The OS X Sound preference pane has only two tabs: Alert and Output. Output shows only "Built-in audio controller", no matter what's plugged into the output port. (In OS 9, the Sound control panel has 4 tabs: Alert, Input, Output and Speakers.) So, in X there's no way to know what speakers the iBook thinks it's using.
I haven't tried resetting the PMU; it didn't seem from the KB article on PMU reset that doing that would help this problem. (I'm cautious about fiddling with the PMU.) But, the battery is old, doesn't hold a charge very long, and we need to get a new one. We normally use the power adapter, anyway. So maybe a PMU reset would do something.
I did ask my husband - an experimental physicist - if the speakers could have been damaged by too loud a sound when he was working with Toast, and he said the the sound circuitry should prevent that, unless there were a design flaw.
On further thought, I probably won't bother reinstalling the systems - just wait until I get back to civilization next week and take it to an Apple Store. (The only authorized service center within 100 miles of this house is one CompUSA 50 miles away.)

  • Airtunes Multiple Speakers Don't All Appear With Lion

I have a MacBook with Lion and an older iMac with Snow Leopard. I share my iTunes library and have both computers connected to Apple TV and Airport Express. Airtunes is so that I can play speakers in two different rooms at different levels ( I'm married!) With Snow Leopard when I click the little box with the triangle in the bottom right corner of iTunes it shows three options...my computer, Apple TV, and my Airport Express network, and allows me to adjust volume on both my computer and airtunes (I rarely use Apple TV for music so don't need the separate adjustment for it.) With Lion, the triangle at the bottom corner shows all three selections and has a check mark to show that I am using multiple speakers...my computer and airtunes...but when I click on it it only gives me volume controls for my computer and my Apple TV...nothing for airport express. I need to adjust the sound levels differently in each room, but can't figure out how to make two discrete adjustments.

Same here! I too have a Mini Mac running 10.7, Apple TV and an old Airport Express. If I choose to play music through the Airport Express then choose multiple speakers, it will play through all 3, but I still have no discrete volume control from the mini mac for the Airport Express.
I find it strange as when I use the Remote app on my iPhone or iPad all three volume controls are present!!! What gives indeed??

  • Install Windows, ATI Graphics Won't Install/Resolution Poor/Speakers Don't Work

    Hey Apple Community,
I recently installed 64 bit Windows Home Premium on my 2011 MB Pro after getting it back from repair. I had Windows on it last time and it worked great, but this time I'm having some major problems. I followed the bootcamp assistant and Apple's online, downloaded all the windows software, etc. Partitioned the hard drive, formatted the bootcamp disk when asked, and it installed all the bootcamp stuff from bootcamp assistant.
However, it failed to install some files when it was on "ATI Graphics" - the installed stalled forever, and said some files were missing or corrupt. I was able to continue with the installation, and it loaded into Windows.
The resolution on Windows is terrible at 800x600. I went to Display and I can't even select my normal 1440x900 resolution like on my Mac side or like I previously had it on Windows. I tried to run the set up from the flash drive again, and it again failed on ATI Graphics.
Additionally,  all my keys worked (such as lowering screen brightness, etc), but my speakers do not work. The icon shows up when hitting the keys, but no sound is produced.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I don't have too much technical knowledge but I have some and can try to implement any solution.
(I have no idea why it worked last time but not this time :/)

you have to install the apple bootcamp drivers
