Multiple "Special Permissions" after upgrading to OS 10.4.4

After upgrading from 10.4.2 to 10.4.4, I have run disk utility several times. Each time, it uses hundreds of "Special Permissions" for DVD Player and Library Widgets (address book, calendar, flight tracker, phone book, etc, etc, etc).
I inadvertently started disk utility before I had completed downloading (installing?) the upgrade.
Did I do something wrong?
I am temporarily living in Ukraine. Yesterday I discovered that my Tiger installation disk is corrupted...and of course, I don't have back up!
Am I screwed?
Tom
Powerbook G4 17   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1.5 GB Ram

The only time you should be worrying (oh well.......worry?...I would say....pay some attention) when running DU is when it says something like:
"blablabla rr-w-rw should be -rrr--w blablabla"
Keep repairing permissions until none of the above is to be seen.
Don't worry about the very list saying "we are using special permissions.....".
That's just part of how DU works I think.
Cheers

  • Special Permissions after Update?

So what gives? No more special permissions after update?
    IE: WIdgets, doc, etc.
    -Tim

Disk Utility no longer reports the special permissions when verifying or repairing your permissions in Mac OS X 10.46; the list of special messages may be available by opening the Console in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and looking at the logs.

  • No recognition of special characters after upgrading to Adobe Reader X

    Hello all,
we  use a document-manager-software "Accantum" to scan and to archive PDFs.  After upgrading to Adobe Reader X no german special characters (e.g.  äöüß ...) are recognized by the document-manager.  All words with  special characters look fine on screen or printer, only the recognition  by the document-manager outputs either "%" or no character in the  destination-PDF-file. Scanning a version 9.x - PDF is still working  fine.
Please give me a little hint
    Thanks. Stephan

I don' think so, cause AR 9x -documents of the identical source are recognized absolutely correct and the error occurred exactly after upgrading to AR X (10.0.1).
Perhaps there is a way to look into the OCR-Text embedded in the PDF-file?
    Thanks
    Stephan

  • Macbook having multiple kernel panic after upgrade to Maverick OS

I have been having problems with my mid-2010 MacBook since upgrading to Mavericks. It will have several kernel panic episodes a day.  Originally I took it to the Apple Genius Bar and they recommended a complete reinstall of Mavericks. This did not stop the constant rebooting. I have found similar threads and I have included a copy of the latest kernel panic report (from just a few minutes ago) and a copy of a report form etrechek (a utility mentioned in another thread) If anyone has any idea what I'm looking for, I'd really appreciate the help.

You have the MacBookPro6,2—the Edsel of Macs. It may have the logic-board defect that was covered by this recall.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present. However, according to reports, some units may pass the test, and yet still be deemed eligible for repair under the program. Your experience may vary.
Print the first page of the panic report, if any, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the recall only applies within three years of purchase. After that, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
The model was discontinued on February 24, 2011, so the recall has nominally ended. Some units may have been sold after that date by Apple as refurbished, or by resellers as new, and they might still be covered.
Some owners report that their unit was repaired under the program after the deadline had passed. Others report that the repair was covered by the extended warranty from a credit-card issuer. Again, your experience may vary.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. If you decide to pay for a new logic board, test thoroughly during the 90-day warranty period on the repair. Some owners have reported that they went through as many as three replacement boards before getting one that worked.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired free of charge, and you don't want to pay for the service, you may (or may not) be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
Often the problems start after an OS upgrade. If the upgrade was recent, and you have backups, then you can revert to a previous OS X version.
If you're dissatisfied with Apple's response, please keep in mind that no one here represents the company or can help with customer-service issues.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Why won't my macbook pro repair disk permissions after upgrading to Mountain Lion?

I upgraded my 2010 Macbook pro with 2.4gHz core 2 duo processor to Mountain Lion and ever since it has been giving me issues. One of my biggest concerns is that it will no longer repair disk permissions. The progress bar goes about half way and just sits there without finishing, and this is something i'm used to doing very regularly. Other than that it has been crashing fairly often and just acting strange where on Snow Leopard it never crashed or had any issues. Any suggestions?

Quit Safari. From the Finder click on Go > Go to Folder and type ~/Library/Preferences. Delete the com.apple.Safari.plist file. Logout/Login and restart Safari. Try to save a bookmark to the Bookmarks bar.

  • Changing Folder Permissions after upgrading to Leopard

I just upgraded to Leopard and previously while being logged into the computer as admin, I was able to set "no access" permissions to specific folders.
I always thought this was a waste of time, regardless, I was able to do it and now can not.
Under "Get Info_Sharing & Permissions" for the specific folder, there are three groups available...admin(me), (unknown) and everyone. Everyone is the only selection that gives me the option to set "no access." "no access" is not available for the other two; admin and unknown.
When logged in under another profile (which is NOT listed under "Get Info_Sharing & Permissions" of this file) when I select "no access" under "everyone" of this file, I immediately see the icon change to a folder with a red minus symbol. It can't be accessed when double clicking. It says you don't have enough access privileges. This is what I'm looking to replicate under the admin profile. Something I could do before.
Am I missing something new in Leopard. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I've only had a brief moment at home to verify the problems you are having. Honestly I haven't put much thought in to it. But, in the meantime, while I try and think of why this is, if you aren't too uncomfortable going into the Terminal you can do this from the commandline fairly easily.
Assuming you want no access for "Everyone", open Terminal.app and type:
"chmod 750 " (without quotes and ensuring you have the trailing space).
Now, drag the file or folder you want to grant no access to onto the terminal window. Its path should show up and now you can press enter and now Everyone won't be able to read or write to this folder.
If you want to get rid of any access for Everyone and the group that owns the file/folder, then do the same as above but instead of "chmod 750..." do "chmod 700 ..."
Hope this helps until I can get a GUI fix going.

  • Multiple issues arose after upgrading Airport Extreme firmware to 7.41

I recently upgraded my Airport Extreme firmware to 7.4.1 and instantly all my windows machine had issues connecting to the wifi, my Apple TV could no longer connect including a Nokia E71. The only devices connecting were the MacBook and iPhones. For the Windows machines i resolved this by forcing to authenticate using WPA2 AES encription. But the Apple TV and E71 couldn't connect. Also some VPN connection issues arose with my windows machines (iPsec). After 2 days of reluctancy to downgrade the firmware, i was left with no option other than to downgrade to 7.3.2.
I am 100% sure there is a problem with the new firmware, downgrading fixed all the issues without any configuration adjustment.
Apple you dropped the ball on this one, when are we getting a patch to 7.4.1?
    Message was edited by: Macinit

Open Airport Utility. Select the airport from the list on the left (if you have more than one) and then choose Manual Setup.
On the Summary tab that opens, click on Version (that's the word Version, not the version number next to it). A drop-down arrow appears - click it and you should get a list of versions to choose from. 7.3.2 seems OK. Pick it and the device will downgrade and restart.

  • Iphoto 2 doesn't recognize my Digimax camera after upgrade

since upgrading from osx 10.3 to 10.3.9 my Samsung Digimax U-CA3 camera is no longer recognized by iPhoto 2.0.1. Is it possible to download a driver? No driver was needed before as the computer supported the camera-up to 10.3! Does this mean the camera is now obsolete?
    Thanks in advance.

Brie- 'USB' and 'Computer' are highlighted in camera Set-up- no other settings. A UK magazine, Macuser, advised me to buy a Card Reader which will have a universal storage format. Apparently camera manufacturers 'stray' from this universality and introduce 'quirks' which throw protocol and may be responsible for my Mac not recognizing the camera after the upgrade.
Meanwhile I'm still intrigued 1] by the Mac's System Profiler recognising the camera and 2] your insights into Permissions after Upgrade and Disc Utility! Also it seems likely that having 'related' to the camera previously the Mac would still have the capacity to do so.[?]
Still, the Card Reader is a cheaper solution [£9] than a new camera and I'm an artist and need to record my work. Any further thoughts welcome, and thanks so much for your help. This communication made the problem very interesting and enjoyable!

    Hi.
After our upgrade from 4.6c to 6.0 ERP, a WorkFlow linked to BKPF doesn't start. When the user use the FB60 Transaction to post a new FI document the WorkFlow need to start.
Any special activity after upgrade we need to do in our WorkFlow?
    Thanks.
    Wladimir

    Hi
If you are using a custom workflow and using the FM "SWW_WI_START" then make sure that destination is commented out .
    Incorrect
    CALL FUNCTION 'SWW_WI_START' DESTINATION wf_dest
    correct
    CALL FUNCTION 'SWW_WI_START'
    This should solve the problem.
    Thanks,
    Krishna.

  • LDAP issue after upgrading to SP15 from SP7 for CUP 5.3

    Hello,
We have recently upgraded our Sandbox from SP 7 to SP15 on GRC 5.3 and Now having issues authenticating users using LDAP.
The connections and settings are exactly same as our Dev system which in on SP7 and the connection also says successful but when we go onto the request page and type in an id it says invalid credentials.
Am i missing something or is there a special procedure after upgrade .
    Thanks
    Uday

    Hello Frank,
Thanks for the reply.I forgot to do it and as you said once i performed those steps it actually solved my password reset link issues as it was erroring out with 500 error and now  it is working fine .
But to fix LDAP issue SAP has a note which says after SP13 we don't need to fill in the user path field while creating LDAP connector.
    Thanks

  • Trackpad failure after upgrading to X

After upgrading my 13" macpro, the trackpad would randomly fail when I was doing commands like switching desktops, mission control, or dashboard. Not always, but randomly, like it was going fine, but after I woke it up from sleep, it just didn't work out. Other trackpad gestures in a single desktop were fine however.

You and me both.  No trouble with a trackpad after three plus years with Leopard, Snow Leopard, and Lion.  Mountain Lion breaks my trackpad to the point where I can only hold the power button and press enter to shutdown.  I cannot select or click anything with the left or right side of the trackpad.  Neither the "tap tp click" nor the "full physical push works with either on my mid-2009 Macbook Pro, aka MacBookPro5,2.  Happens after every wake from sleep.
Frustrating and disappointing.  Is there a KB article regarding this?  It happened immediately after the Mountain Lion upgrade and was not expereienced before.
Ran repair permissions after upgrade.  Advice?  SMC (PRAM) reset?
    Thanks,
    fellow

  • Safari, chrome and firefox cannot verify identity of secure websites after upgrading to 10.7.4,  apple engineers have tried multiple things including operating system with no success

safari, chrome and firefox cannot verify identity of secure websites after upgrading to 10.7.4,  apple engineers have tried multiple things including operating system with no success

There are several threads about this problem, most notably one called 'Invalid Certificates' is over 4 pages long.  Many of us have experienced difficulty connecting to banking and other secure sites.  On my Macbook Pro, I cannot get to my banking site with any browser, however I can get there on my iMac using Safari, but get the 'Invalid Certificate' notice with FF and Chrome.  The problem started after the installation of 10.7.4.  I have sent a message to Apple--they will be dismayed to hear that I cannot complete an order at their online store!

  • Multiple crashes, blue screen, reboots after upgrading to ios 7.1

    Hi All.
My iphone 5s 32gb worked perfectly fine until  upgraded to ios 7.1.
Now it keeps crashing, rebooting multiple times a day. Sometimes it enters in a rebooting loop.
I´ve tried reseting, restoring, downloading the upgrade and restoring again and again but the problem persists. Very frustrating.
I´ve enter to diagnostics and usage data on mi iphone and there are at leat 100 crash reports.
What should I? Whait for ios 8? Forget Apple products for good?
    Thanks.

Thanks for your advice! I don´t live in the US. I can see there are a lot of people having the same issue after upgrading to ios 7.1. Is it possible that my iphone just got broken? I repeat that after the upgrade it worked perfectly fine.
    Kind regards.
