  • How to stop tabs re-opening after firefox crashes.........when it crashes and I have multiple tabs open, when re-starting firefox all of the tabs re-open too. How can I stop this?

Firefox crashes quite often, especially when I have multi tabs open. I usually have to use CTRL ALT DEL and end the process as Firefox stops responding.
My problem is not the crashing........it is the re-opening of the multiple tabs I had open, when normally it is one of them (not the home page) that caused the crash in the first place, so I cannot re-open firefox until I restart the pc, because every time I do it is the same story. Firefox tries to re-open all of the tabs and stops responding. I have looked in options but nowhere does it allow me to stop multiple tabs opening after a crash. If this continues, I will have to uninstall Firefox and stick to Chrome.

Set the pref browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.
That will allow you to deselect the tab(s) that you do not want to reopen, but will allow to reopen other tabs.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore#Restoring_a_session_after_a_crash
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • With multiple tabs open, I use to click File, close tab---now close tab is missing and I exit out of Firefox completely. How do I get that choice back "close tab" in the "File" drop down? Thanks. George C.

The drop down "FILE" in the tool bar use to have a choice to "CLOSE TAB". This is now missing so when I have multiple tabs open and I want to close the most recent, I cannot. I then get warned that I will be closing multiple numbers of tabs, but there is no other choice.
How do I get the "CLOSE TAB" back in the drop down "FILE" in the tool bar

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • How Do I Launch Safari with Multiple Tabs Open to Specific Pages?

I'd like a Windows shortcut that opens Safari with multiple tabs open to specific pages. With other browsers (Firefox, IE, Chrome, etc.), this is easily done by composing a command line that lists all desired URLs. However, Safari doesn't seem to use the same command line syntax as other browsers. Furthermore, I can't find Safari's command line syntax documented anywhere. From the comments I've seen while researching this question, I suspect this is a neglected area of Safari development, and that Safari simply can't be configured to open multiple pages. However, I'd like to make sure. Can it?
    -TC

It strikes me that it should be possible to do that (or something similar) by building a safari extension, TC. Both Sessions and SafariRestore are able to launch multiple tabs from a previous session, so it seems like you should be able to create an extension that launches multiple tabs open to specific sites when Safari is launched.

  • With multiple tabs open, crashing with no warning to close tabs and no crash report. Just bye-bye.

I have the option to warn me before closing multiple tabs selected. I left my desk for an hour with multiple windows open. When I returned, all but 1 window disappeared. I was typing on Facebook with multiple tabs open and instantly all tabs and windows disappeared without warning. No crash report either. I search for the keyboard shortcut to close a window (Alt+Spacebar+C). I tested with multiple tabs open, no warning - just instantly closed. I do not think I hit these keys by accident and I would like an option for a warning with one tab open or multiple tabs.

Ok I solved the problem if anyone is looking at this.
Add on "Hide Caption Title bar Plus" was the offender
Option - define option for close button. Was on recommended not default.
    Choose default, problem eliminated!

  • Multiple tabs open, will not show content on a different tab when clicking on it.

When I have multiple tabs open on Firefox and click on one of the other tabs, it will not change to the newly clicked tab. It will continue to show the previous tab that was open. If I move the mouse around the page, then some of the pictures will appear on top of the previous page.
The only way that I have been able to correct this is to reopen a different tab and then open the tab that I wanted open in the first place. Once I do the back and forth, the tab will show the content that is displayed on that tab.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • When I close Safari now with multiple tabs, it does not warn me I have multiple tabs open.  How do I turn it on?

Safari always warned me when I had multiple tabs open before it would close.  Now it closes whenever I hit the red X (close out).  When I was at the Apple store ithey indicated that that is how the latest Safari works, but it is supposed to open all the tabs that were open when it is relaunched.  Mine appeared to do that when I was at the Apple store, but now it does not.  When it opens now, it just opens my home screen with no tabs.
Can anyone shed light on this?

One change in Firefox 4 is to by default stop Firefox displaying the warning message, but it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''

  • I have always been able to keep multiple tabs open, but now can't open more than one tab?

I have always been able to keep multiple tabs open while working, but by mistake yesterday when I closed firefox I forgot to save all tabs before quitting. Now I can't open multiple tabs....only one.

This issue can be caused by the Ask<i></i>.com toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)
Your system details show that toolbar in the user agent as AskTbMTV/3.12.2.16749

  • If FF is set to "Never Remember History" and I try to close it with multiple tabs open, it doesn't warn me first. If it remembers history, it warns me about closing multiple tabs. I want that warning AND Don't Remember History back again!

At work I set my PC to not remember history for privacy reasons.
I always have many tabs open, and the warning about closing multiple tabs was a good thing - but now it only works if it remembers history!
I have the "Warn me when closing...." box checked AND all of the lines in about:config regarding these warnings are set to true. I have tried turning it off and back on, restarted the PC.
I discovered this yesterday with FF 3.something, tried updating to FF4.

The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.
Firefox shows "Use custom settings for history" as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".
"Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a checkmark.
You need to remove the checkmark on "Always use private browsing mode" to leave Private Browsing mode or chose the "Remember History" setting.

  • Having multiple tabs open in one window, and then opening a new window and closing it, will close the newly opened window, but it will want to close the other original window with the multiple tabs as well.

This only happens if the original window has multiple tabs, and the new window has only ONE tab at the moment you close it.
Also, the problem only occurs when TWO windows of firefox are open. So opening up a 3rd window, and then closing it, will not give you any problems. The interaction occurs between two windows of firefox only.

This can happen if you drag a tab slightly down in the browser window while clicking.
Firefox has a feature called tear-off tabs
You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window.
You can also do this via the right-click context menu of a tab: Move to New Window
You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.

  • Issue with Safari and using the back arrow with multiple tabs open

I open multiple tabs in Safari but when I'm in a tab browsing and I hit the back arrow, in the new version of Safari, it doesn't just go back to the previous page in the tab, it completely backs out of all the tabs. What am I doing wrong?
I have a PC running Win 7 and the lastest version of Safari.  I launch Safari which opens to my home page (CNN). I then go the News on my menu bar and select Open in Tabs - then tabs for 6 news sites open up. However if I go to one of the tabs and start navigating around the sight and I want to back up a page I click the back arrow like I have always done in previous versions of Safari but instead of backing up 1 page in the tab I'm in, it collapses all the tabs and I'm back with only the CNN tab still open. Its frustrating not being able to backup on page and I can figure out what's going on. I've use Safari for sometime now but only this version is giving me this problem. I tried resetting and reinstalling Safari but still get the same problem.  Any ideas? Its like I'm backing out of tabs instead of pages.

    Thanks for your quick response.
    1) I have the Block Pop UP windows option turned off
    2) I switched Safari to 32 -bit mode and rebooted my iMac but I still can't get the CBS videos to run
The exact message I get in the Hulu or CBS box is:
The video you have requested is either unavailable or is being blocked by an ad blocker installed in your browser.
I have the same problem with the Safari, Firefox and Opera (all are the latest versions.

  • With multiple tabs open, and selecting a new (blank) tab, RoboForm open new web page in far left tab, not the new (blank) one. How to correct this?

Problem: Firefox Browser Tabs when using RoboForm
When using Tabs in the Firefox browser (with multiple Tabs already open), I (1) click to open a new (blank) tab and then, (2) click on RoboForm to go to a new website. Instead of the new website opening in the newly opened (blank) tab it opens in the first (far left) tab. This only began happening when I installed Firefox 5.0 and RoboForm Desktop v7.3.2 at the same time.
My system: HP Pavilion Media center, Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, 8GB RAM, Firefox v5.0, Roboform Desktop v7.3.2

Thanks a lot. The culprit turned out to be Webmail Notifier. Unfortunately, there seems to be some problems on their end that the developer has not yet responded to, but something about the extension is screwing up tab functionality.
    Thanks!

  • When closing firefox 4.0 with multiple tabs open, i wish to save this setup when i reopen firefox. the option to save my setup is now not in the prompt. only that i'm closing multiple tabs. how do i do this?

in the older version of firefox, you were prompted when you were closing multiple tabs. but you were also given the option of saving the current setup so that when you reopened firefox, this current setup would reopen also. how do i make this happen with firefox 4.0?since i updated to firefox 4.0, there is no obtion given to save my current setup.

You can change Firefox preferences so that you also get the option to save the current tabs when quiting:<BR><BR>
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message about being careful and you will see a list of settings.
    # Type '''browser.showQuitWarning''' into the ''Filter'' box at the top.
    # If its value is ''false'', double-click on it to change it to ''true''.

  • Firefox 3.6.13 hangs freezes repeatedly with multiple tabs open

I am running FF v3.6.13 on a Vista laptop. I typically have over 60 tabs open during a session (pretty much the same ones each time). In the last two weeks, FF has started freezing repeatedly while these tabs are open, whether I am using it or it is sitting idle. I either get a dialog box stating that Firefox is not responding and asking if I want to end it or wait for it to respond, or it simply hangs and I have to kill it via Task Manager.
However, if I run FF with only a few tabs open, it remains running and stable. So, I don't believe it is an extension problem.
    Any ideas what is happening?

    @ Falling Rock
You seem to have found a plausible answer to the problem. <br>
But at least as I view your post it is breaking the post container, I will repeat your answer and add line breaks in an attempt to make it easier for those like myself to view what you have written; without requiring excessive scrolling.

    ''Hey, M.,
I have had this problem with v3.6.13 and earlier versions, too,<br> but I never was anywhere near 60 tabs! WOwwww! <br>
IMHO, the "issue"is probably caused by your having stretched your virtual memory too far. <br>
My system is XP Pro x86 SP3 with only 2 GB RAM; <br>you must have 4GB or upwards on a 64-bit system, to grow to 60 tabs. <br>Mine gets flaky around 12-15, esp. with a Word doc window or two running as well. <br>Mine used to go troublesome around 8 or so, but I increased my Virtual Memory setting in Windows. <br>You might try increasing the virtual memory setting significantly, if Windows will let you. <br> See if that will help your problem.
