Multiple Topic Page Icons in RH7 TOC ??

Hi,
Was wondering if it is possible to use multiple icons for topic pages in RH7 (Webhelp output) Table of Contents.
I know how to change the icon for books and topics/pages, but that change is uniform to all topics and pages. Is there a way to assign a different icon to multiple pages and another to other pages, etc.

Hi Mike
I'd have to do some deep digging on an old computer in order to unearth the information. If memory serves, the process was to locate a specific JavaScript file. Then locate a specific function. You duplicated the function and gave it a different name. Then you modified it to use the image of your choosing. Then you had to somehow reference the correct TOC element to point specifically to that function.
I recall trying what was outlined with no success, so obviously I had overlooked a step or it wasn't properly conveyed to me to begin with. Ultimately I simply abandoned adding it to my Skinny on Skins file as I figured if I was unable to make it work I felt others probably would be as well.
The steps were provided to me by another forum member a few years ago. Who knows, maybe they are reading this post right now. So perhaps they will offer to send you the steps.

How to sync page icon in TOC with file type of baggage file?

all our pages are linked to baggage files (yes, we're also
using RoboHelp for document archiving). is there any way to set up
the skin such that the page icon in the TOC reflects the type of
the attached baggage file? i.e., shows the acrobat icon when the
baggage file is a .PDF, the MS Word icon when the baggage file is a
.DOC, and so on.

When I have created bitmap icons in the past (used to work for a software company) I used to create them with either a icon creator tool (Axialis) or directly in photoshop.
For color depths 24 BPP or less, the transparency is coded by using a fixed color. Each pixel that have this exact color will be converted as transparent when the image is loaded in the toolbar. Usually, the color used is green RGB(0,255,0) or magenta RGB(255,0,255). The problem of this method is that if you use a pixel of that color in your icon image (not the background), it will be converted as transparent. The other issue is the poor quality of the borders (around the icons) because it does not permit smooth transparency. In other words, a pixel is either 100% transparent or 100% opaque, there is no variable transparency. It results in "aliasing" on borders for icons with rounded shapes.
This is an old technique so you will struggle to get the desired results but worth you having a look for "creating bmp icons with transparency" online.

Change the topic icon in Webhelp TOC?

We are using RoboHelp 9 on a Windows 7 platform.
When we publish Webhelp, the topic icon in the published output has a question mark in it.
We have had almost universal feedback from our target audience that they are confused by the question mark (they thought it indicated an error occurred when we published the Webhelp). Is there a way to specify a different topic icon for the TOC in the properties of RoboHelp somewhere, but retain the "Default" skin?
We have two alternatives that we would prefer not to use:
1. Change the wht_toc3.gif file in the published output. (We publish often, so we want to avoid a post-publishing clean-up task.)
2. Go into the RoboHelp 9 application folder on the C drive where the GIF file resides and change it there.
We guess the folder is located here, although we found the file in a few different places:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 9\RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_skin
An icon that would be an acceptable replacement would be whd_toc3.gif (it has three horizontal lines in it instead of a question mark).
Is there any way to make this change in RoboHelp project or Webhelp properties anywhere?

Hi Tim,
If I understood you correctly, then here is the answer. You can go to Project Setup Pod> Skins and double click on the Default Skin, In the right hand side top corner click on Navigation, Underneath that Topic/Page> change the image of the Topic and press ok.
Generate the webhelp.

I am using RoboHelp7 and have imported a project from an

Hi there
When editing a skin you really only have a choice between four images.
One to represent a closed book or a collapsed area
One to represent an open book or an expanded area
One to represent a page
One to represent a link to an external web site
It's unclear as to why you are expecting to see more than a single icon for a page. If you don't wish to see the question mark icon, you need to browse to another image to select it. RoboHelp does offer a number of alternate images to choose from. You will find them in the Gallery folder where RoboHelp has been installed.

Do you mean that the + at the top right, just under the search field, disappeared? If so, did it disappear like that or after an upgrade / installation of an app / restore... ?

RH9: Multiple Topics with the Same Map ID

I'm trying to use the same Map ID with more than one topic, which seems logical to me as a process that contains multiple screens could open an overview of the process, but I get an error that "The map number is already in this project".
I've tried manually editing the BSSCDefault.h file, but when I go back to RH the second topic is still showing the unique Map ID that I deleting.
How can I bypass this? Thanks.
One more thing: I just noticed that in the Edit Map IDs dialog box the Map ID and Topic Name columns use the same topic name (which also appears in the H file). This topic name also appears in the Page Title field of the TOC Properties dialog box, but the Link to field can have a different HTML filename. Is this ok?

Make an overview topic and assign the map id to the overview topic instead of trying to add it to multiple topics.

How do I get a Up One Level in the Topics page of my screen layout?

I am trying to insert an "Up One Screen" on my Topic page in my screen layouts and it's only allowing me to add a hyperlink to the Table of Contents. Any suggestions?

What do you mean by Up One Screen? Where is Rh only allowing you to add a hyperlink to the TOC?

Saving multiple scanned pages as single document with 8620

I need to scan multiple pages and save as a single document. I am scanning using the AiO remote app and my iPad Air. I see the "Add Pages" icon and use it, but when I save, it saves as individual documents. I need multiple pages to be a single document. Solutions?

As mentioned above, I can't re-create the problem. You mentioned Add Page and this is it:
You simply touch Yes then touch Scan for next page .... and at the end Touch "No I'm done" then Save a PDF file or image file.

Linking to a specific topic in the project - RH7

Hi, I've been playing with this problem for a few days, and can't find an answer.
I have a project that consists of a number of topics. I publish in WebPro. I want to be able to link, from the outside, to a specific topic, and display the TOC open to that particular topic.
I have all the pieces in place except the TOC. The topic always opens with the TOC hidden, and I have to click the 'Show' link to open it. Is there a setting I'm missing?

Placeholders in header section of topic page?

Has anyone figured a workaround for getting placeholders (breadcrumbs, mini-TOC) into the header section of a topic page, standard or master? (The placeholder options are dimmed when selecting header or footer.) Even if I try to sneak in the HTML, RH just blows it away or keeps it with no functionality.
Have they fixed this in RH9?

Boy, what the he*& were they thinking (the Adobe people)? Why would they allow the addition of "pseudo-header" content that works just like header content, but entirely outside the documented header-body-footer construct? Instead, in the case of my example below, they're transforming the "pseudo-header" placeholders in the master page into a placeholder-header hybrid in the topic assigned to the master page.
I wouldn't mind so much if they actually documented it, instead of sticking with this in their help:
Note: You cannot insert a placeholder inside a paragraph as inline text or in headers or footers.
My testing:
In a master page, add the HTML code for two placeholders (breadcrumbs and mini-TOC) "between" the <?rh-region_end type="header" ?> and <?rh-region_start type="body" ?> tags.
Assign the master page to a topic; that topic's source file now contains a <?rh-placeholder type="header" ?> tag after the <body> tag!
Generate the output; placeholders appear in the output.
Edit the master page (change the mini-TOC label, for example, from "In This Topic" to "See These Sections").
Generate again; the change appears in the output.
So, when they say (further up in their Master Page help topic):
When you create a topic using a master page, the body content is placed in the resulting topic. If you apply a master page to an existing topic, the body content is ignored. [except for the pseudo-header content in the body, you mean]

Where is the Pages Icon?

I am trying to move pages around in a pdf using Acrobat Pro 8.1.5, and between multiple pdfs. I do not have a pages icon in my navigation panel, nor do I have thumbnails of the pages in the navigation panel. When I go to View > Navigation > Pages, I get the pages window, but I cannot move pages in between pdfs. I know I've done this before and it is a feature when the thumbnails appear in the Navigation Panel, but does not appear to be possible in the Pages view. Help!!

You've verified the app is on your phone, by doing a spotlight search, correct? You've looked on every page & in every folder, correct? If so: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout...see if you see it now.
Remember, with iOS 7.0, you can put as many apps as you want in a folder, but only 9 will be visible.

Single Screen Print Snippet in Multiple Topics - Rectangle Maps Depending on Topic

Our firm uses RoboHelp 7 HTML.
Our training department is thinking of using RH7 as a self-guided training platform.
We have been experimenting with a single snippet in multiple topics and trying to overlay a rectangle image map on different portions of the snippet depending on the topic.
They have found that the rectangle image map is not unique to the topic but to the snippet image, meaning that all the images in the topics contain the same image map.
Is this addressed in RH9 which we are considering buying or is there another method to do this.
Please refer to the images below which were created in snagit as a guide to what we are trying to accomplish.

I have been trying to persuade Adobe that Snippets should be able to have placeholders other than variables. I have in mind where you need to add a step in a specific instance of a snippet. There I have in mind text or simple images. If even that would help you or anyone else with other work, then please submit a feature request.

Your particular request is a bit different in that not only do you want different images, you want them to have hotspots. By all means submit a feature request but it would not surprise me if that presented a different challenge. If an image is inserted into a variable in RoboHelp 9, the Image Map hotspots are disabled in the menu so you cannot create such a graphic in a variable. I'm thinking they would not be disabled if it could be made to work.
It does look as if you cannot do what you want to with either RoboHelp 7 or 9.

How do I apply CSS style to multiple topic files?

I'm using RH9 for help projects originally created with RoboHelp X5. When I generate .chm, roughly half of the pages lose their .css styles (font changes, background color disappears etc.). This can be cured by opening the topic in RH via Project Manager, then right-clicking and selecting "Properties". In the Appearance tab I re-select necessary Style Sheet (although it is already selected - I select some other one and then back the one I need, then 'Apply' button becomes active), and click OK. After that I save the topic and regenerate .chm. Only after that the topic looks good in the .chm. The problem is that this procedure needs to be applied to every single topic file that is displayed incorrectly. If I don't open the topic before I click 'Properties' and save it after, it doesnt't work. If I select multiple topics in the Topic List view and click 'Properties, it doesn't work either. I have several thousand topics in the project and I can't say which ones need to be repaired before I build .chms.
Is there a faster solution to this problem than processing all files manually?

Perhaps check the code for a problem topic (outside Robohelp) and see if the stylesheet reference has type="text/css". If not, you could try running a search and replace to add that to the link reference. Not sure if this occurs in RH9, but not hard to check.

Multiple home pages in Safari

Is there a way to implement multiple home pages on Safari like you can on Firefox. I don't like Firefox because it takes 2 years to load and looks dumb. Safari is much nicer and I would really appreciate it if Apple could maybe implement this feature in future upgrades.

only way I know to do this is as follows....
right click on the bookmarks bar and select add folder. I have created one called 'home'. One by one drag all of the pages you want to open to your 'home' page folder icon.
From the safari menu select 'bookmarks / show all bookmarks'. This will show you all of your bookmarks. one of them should be your 'home' folder, and next to this will be a column titled 'auto-click', with a check box in it. select the check box. This will change the icon next to the folder in the bookmark bar from a triangle to a square.
In safari / preferences, under the general section, for the option 'new window opens with' select the value 'empty page'.
When you open a new safari window, you will get a blank page, but with one click on the 'home' bookmark, all the required pages are automatically opened in separate tabs.
You can create a number of different 'home' pages in this way, and when you select each one, safari will close all of the existing open tabs and open the new tabs required....

I downloaded Maverick and now I can't open pages from the Dock. The Pages icon just jumps up and down abut doesn't open. However, I can one pages by clicking on the App. I have an iMac with iWork 08.

Since upgrading to Maverick from Mountain Lion I am unable to open Pages from the Dock. When I click on the pages icon in the dock the icon just keeps bouncing up and down. However, I can open pages by clicking on the icon in the Apps folder. No problems prior to upgrading to Maverick.

Quit Pages. Drag its icon out of the Dock. Create a new one by dragging the application into the Dock. Test.
