Multiple unsuccesfull tries to install adobe reader 9

Hi all,
I'm running Window XP and I had the latest version of the acrobat reader installed on my laptop.
When I downloaded the new Acrobat Reader 9 (AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe), I figured out I had to uninstall the previous versions + addons to clean up a little, thinking acrobat 9 was a stand-alone version.
Apparently, when I launch the installation, the executable get processed until the 100% and then the windows closes leaving my system without a working reader. And after several tries I haven't figured out yet the way to work around this.
Any suggestion?
Thanks so much in advance,
Michele

Try downloading and installing the MS installer cleanup utility (you can Goggle it). Run that and try again.
BTW, version 9 "should" uninstall version 8.

Did you look "manually" for remnants of an old Reader installation ? (you could eventually try searching the drive for files and folders named Adobe )
Some suggests , as the previous thread contributor , that this is an issue with respect to remnants of an old installation :

At a command prompt (run as administrator), do:
    C:\>chkdsk c: /f /v

  • Trying to install Adobe Reader and won't run!

I uninstalled Adobe Reader because nothing would come up when websites had PDF files any more.   I figured it would be really easy to reinstall Reader from the website and now nothing happens when I try to run the installer.   (I had to download the installer in Safe Mode, by the way, because my computer didn't let me install it through the normal means).  I have a lot of pdf files on my computer I need to view every day and now I'm in a world of hurt because I can't open them.  Can someone please help me figure out how to get my installer to work?  Thanks!

I'm not sure what you mean about clearing everything after Adobe.  I did want to say that when I try to download the installer, I get the error message --
"Setup.exe application error.  The instruction at 0x02a10a4 referenced memory at 0x0a28f0e.3.  The memory could not be read.  Click on OK to terminate the program."
When I try to close the error box, it basically stops everything from working.
I got the installer to work only as far as to get through the first phase.  When it starts to actually download, this error message comes up.

  • Error in Installing Adobe Reader

I'm trying to install Adobe Reader and everytime, it gets to 96% and an error message pops up telling me that it can't finish installation until I close Adobe Reader- however there is nothing open except for the installation window and the error message.

Make sure that anything that uses Adobe Reader is closed; check with the Task Manager's Processes tab.
If you're still having problems, uninstall your current Reader installation, then reinstall the latest Reader.
    Download the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Mac's Safari browser supports PDF documents
Adobe Reader is not good at security issues, if you can, avoid using/downloading it.
    PDF
Safari also includes built-in support for viewing PDF files. When you follow a link to a PDF in Safari, such as a user guide, it's displayed in the Safari window without having to open another app. Safari's built-in find and zoom features work with PDFs too.

  • Unable to install Adobe Reader 8.1.2 Help!!!

Help Please I had Adobe Reader 8 on my Laptop Os WinsXP but it was corrupt so I unstalled it and I`m trying ( Approx 8 tries ) to install Adobe Reader 8.1.2 but all I get when it`s trying to Install is a dialog box that pops up saying
Internal Error 2753. Updater api_NON_OPT and then says Adobe Reader 8.1.2 setup Failed.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in Advance

I can help if you gor error 1402 about not having permission to update reg sub-key MSFS under:
    HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run/OptionalComponents
Logged into my own account, I could see no sub-keys under Run even though I have Administrator rights. I logged in under the Administrator Account (the one under which Adobe was originally installed). Now I could see all sub-keys.
I installed Adobe Reader 8.1.2 successfully.
I rebooted and logged back in under my own account and can now see all sub-keys.
I suspect 2 things. Either my registry was corrupt and I lost the sub-keys (dont think so) or an update from say Adobe Reader 8.1.1 to 8.1.2 can initially only be done under the account that did the original install (I hope this is not the case). Good luck.

  • Problem in installing Adobe Reader X

I wanted to install Adobe Reader X on my notebook(with no internet connection).I copied the Adobe folder from my PC to the notebook and tried to install Adobe Reader X by clicking the related exe file, but it didnt help.
The exe file, which was AcroRd32.exe,when clicked says that "Adobe Reader cannot open in Protected Mode due to a problem with your system configuration.Would you like to open Adobe Reader with Protected Mode disabled?".
When I tried to open it with Protected Mode disabled,it gave a fatal error saying that "Acrobat failed to load its Core DLL".
No such error occured with earlier versions of Adobe Reader. There, the exe file automatically started the installation process.
Is it not possible to upgrade my Reader to X from 9.1?
(I saw a similr thread elsewhere but there the error was different and the solution talked of some whitelisting, which I am not aware of)

You cannot use Reader X until it has been installed. Installing means that the appropriate configuration has been entered into the Windows Registry. Copying a folder from another computer doesn't achieve that goal.
Here's what I suggest you do now.
Run this Microsoft fix first of all: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Uninstall via Reader via Add/Remove Programs
Download and install Reader X from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/
P.S. There are some programs which are so called 'Standalone' apps. That means that the executable will run without using a system's processes. But Adobe Reader isn't one of them.

I didnt't say that our business is using Linux Desktops. I wrote, our main clientele is. And what our customers do like to use is something we cannot control...
    >What difference does it make to you if Adobe releases a new version of Reader that is not supported on Linux?
a new Adobe Reader version that's supported on Linux would be nice. a dialogue between Adobe and Linux developers would be nice...
    >As long as the old versions can open the files correctly, that's all that matters, no?
No, not if our staff is trained to use the newest Adobe Acrobat (trainings are usually for the newest versions) and uses that to produce forms. Now the files open correctly. But what will be in some months or years? Do people working on Linux do have to print the forms then again to fill in?
So do you recommend that we stop the process of producing electronic forms and stay with paper-fill-in forms? Is that the goal of Adobe? (maybe not so clever for your "financial viability"?!?!? ... ein schuss ins eigene bein?!?!)
    >Adobe is a public company and therefore it's not going to maintain a version of its software at great cost if it's not financially viable. It's as simple as that...
So it is to be interpreted that Adobe is interested in killing Linux cause if users cannot work with let's say forms, they will have to switch to something that can do that for them...
We definitely don't want to force Windows or Mac on our clientele. So as far as I get it, we will go back to paper forms and terminate our licence agreements with Adobe and deinstall it...
