Multiple upgrades to Mountain Lion

Is there an available process that I can order several upgrades to Moutain Lion without utilizing single purchases through the App store?

If you just need a few for personal use, you can DL them multiple times w/o additional charge for each Mac from the app store. Better yet after you DL before you install quit out of the installer and copy the "Install OS X.app" in your /Applications folder to some other media and use that for the additional installs. To begin the install just double-click the "Install OS X.app" in your Applications folder

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion on my 2011 27" iMac, my Mac occasionally lock-ups.

After upgrading to Mountain Lion on my 2011 27" iMac, my Mac occassionaly locks up while using Safari, Mail or Dreamweaver and I have to d a force-quit, then restart my Mac.  Anybody having similar probelms?
I am thinking about doing a clean install of Mountain Lion.  Would I be able to restore my applications and data from Time Machine after the re-install?

My 24 inch iMac... 2.8 GHZ dual core (Early 2008) is having the same problem.  After it sleeps, I go to use something... and the beachball of death occurs.  This happens multiple times a day... and let me tell you... it is annoying... and I am the one who is being annoyed!
It could possibly be revolving around safari... as that is really the only thing that is running consistently.  I don't use iTunes on this iMac as I have so many other Macs up and running in the house... and I never consume media on it... so I kind of dismiss iTunes being the culprit.
This is majorly affecting my Mac... in terms of reliability and uptime... which coincedently is the main reason why I switched to Mac in 2008.  This is my only Mac that could upgrade to ML... so I don't know how widespread this is... but I hope that this problem can be solved...
I agree with another person who commented on this issue... do we really need a 10.8.1 update already... to fix this?

  • Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro Freezing since upgrading to Mountain Lion

    Hey all,
I've been researching this issue extensively and it seems as if it would be most efficient if I started my own post instead of cluttering someone else's.
I upgraded to Mountain Lion within a week of its release. In the past two weeks, my computer has crashed 3 to 4 times. I can still move my mouse, and if I have an app like Spotify open it will continue to play music through the speakers. However, the computer is frozen and I cannot type/click/control the computer. The only way to get it back is by pressing and holding down the power key and rebooting.
Called AppleCare and went to the "Genius" Bar multiple times; neither helped.
I ran EtreCheck on my computer and below are my results:

Should I be concerned with items marked as "failed" or "not loaded?" My MacBook does not crash daily (more like once or twice a week), and each time I have been doing very simply processes, like surfing the web with Chrome or writing something in Word or listening to Spotify.

Here's an updated report reflecting fewer errors that I took this afternoon. I hope someone on this message board can help...

  • My 2011 Macbook has become exceedingly slow after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

I have a 2011 Macbook which has become really slow after I upgraded to Mountain Lion in March. At first it wasn't that bad, but it's getting worse and my computer has begun to overheat even if I'm only using Google Chrome. I used to be able to keep multiple applications open at once and never closed many of them, but now if I want to get anything done I have to use the absolute minimum. My CPU has reached 86 degrees Celsius and temperatures slightly below this seem to be the average, even if I've only been on for ten minutes. It heats up VERY quickly. The fan has been operating at 2919 rpm, but it has said that for days and I don't know if this number should be changing? (I know that normal is about 2000 rpm, so I know it shouldn't be that high anyway.)
I'm currently working on cleaning out my harddrive of duplicate and unnecessary files and I plan on restoring to the default settings and backing everything up on an external harddrive... but are there other things I should be doing to speed my computer back up, like good programs to clean out my computer's temporary memory on a regular basis? The problem seems to have come on pretty fast though, so I don't know if there could be something else wrong with it and if I should take it into an Apple-approved repair place.
Also, I'm not one to illegally download/pirate things from sketchy websites, so I highly doubt a virus is the cause, especially given that Macs rarely get viruses.
Any suggestions of what to do and what programs/apps to install would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

  • Is there any information about using iCloud on a Mac with multiple user accounts (Mountain Lion)

When upgrading to Mountain Lion, you are asked to sign in using your iCloud ID.  I don't understand how to set up the proper synching of "stuff" if your Mac has multiple user accounts, and they each have their own iCloud ID.
The whole issue of supporting multiple users on a Mac and making everything easy to understand with regard to iTunes and iCloud is, in my opinion, currently in a state of disaster.  Apple needs to address this.  They have conveniently made it a non-issue on iPads by not allowing multiple users.  I can tell you that as one of the resident iOS and Apple experts in my office, most of the questions I get from others (not work-related) are on this topic.  It needs to be easier to understand and accomplish.
Thanks in advance for any information you have on this subject.

  • I have a question about airplay multiple speakers in Mountain lion

I seem to be unable to use the "multiple speakers" feature in iTunes now that I've upgraded to Mountain Lion.  Before, I was able to stream music from my iTunes to two airport expresses throughout the house, simultaneoulsy with the computer's speakers.  Now it seems I can't.
When I select "multiple speakers" and click on the appropriate airport express, I get a dialog box that says "Connecting to Airport Express", which gives up after about 45 seconds of trying to connect.
Here are the things I've tried:
    1. In System Preferences, I've changed the audio output from computer to the airport express, which successfully sent the audio to the airport express.  But the system preferences audio tab just lets you select a single output destination, not multiple.  So I know that the speaker works, and that OSX still "likes" it.
    2. There has been mention on various boards that my computer no longer has the system requirements for this feature.  I want to know if that that's true.  (Full description of system below)
    3. I've used the trial of airfoil, which works beautifully, exactly what I want it to do.  But it costs $30, and I'd rather the pretty new operating system I just bought would work!
    4.  Another clue might be from the airport utility app.  It claims that my airport expresses are no longer supported by airport utility 6.1, and that I should downgrade to airport utility 5.6 to manage those expresses.  Unfortunately, mountain lion is not compatible with airport utility 5.6, so that's a dead end.  I'm not even sure that the answer lies with the airport utility app, because the system can still stream to the expresses, just one at a time.
    Any thoughts?

  • Upgrade to Mountain Lion and Exciting Crashes

I upgraded to Mountain Lion the other week, since I'd been hearing good things about it. Sadly, that seems to have been a MAJOR mistake. I am experiencing two types of crashes that may or may not be linked to Safari or the Finder.
Crash Type 1] Milling about seems to be when I "Command-Tab" to switch through applications and then both screens (dual monitor) go black, grey screen comes up with multiple languages and informs me that my computer restarted unexpectedly. I'm glad it says that, because I couldn't figure that out on my own.
Crash Type 2] Screen flashes light grey, then stays a slightly darker shade of grey, all previously open apps seem to relaunch after what appears to be a Finder relaunch. And of course at this point all unsaved work is lost (which normally only results in 15 minutes of lost work).
Safari has also been acting stupid with the type input bar jumping around occasionally.
Not sure what's causing this, but I had a working Mac Pro until I upgraded to Mountain Lion.

    Command + alt + P +R worked for me

  • What is the benefit of upgrading to Mountain Lion?

Just purchased a MacBook Pro and do not own any other Apple products and from what I'm reading it looks like the ML will be a great enhancement for those who have multiple Apple devices.
I can get a free upgrade to Mountain Lion, and am wondering if is there any benefit for me to upgrade to Mountain Lion?
    Thank you

Although there may be some polishing of the OS and more included junk, like Facebook, Twitter, Notifications whatever, there really is not that much difference.
It's really more like a Point update then a new OS. Apple is just charging for it.
Oh Apple removed some things also. Setting battery indicator to precent only instead of Time Remaining or percent. On the Display perferences you now have to hold down the Option key to get the "Detect Displays" button (Why in the world would Apple hide that???).
They still haven't fixed the WiFi problem Some Mac's had with Lion or included a email program that functions properly. Apple still doesn't get multiple displays right, probably never will either. Hence the hiding of the Detect Displays button.
I installed it and don't have any real problems with it. But then I had no real problems with Lion.
If you are having "ANY" problems with Lion the upgrade to Mt Lion will not fix those. Those should be fixed before you upgrade to any new OS. Otherwise they just get carried over into the new OS.

  • Headphone output malfunctioning since upgraded to mountain lion from snow leopard.

    Hi there,
Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion I've been experiencing issues with audio output through headphones.  The left headphone is significantly louder than the right.  I've tried multiple different pairs of headphones and experienced the same result.  I have windows installed on my computer via bootcamp and when I boot up using the Windows OS the headphones work perfectly.  Thus, I think it's safe to say this is a software issue.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Bah simple answer, for some reason upgrading changed the balance option in system preferences.  Fixed that and all is well

  • My iMac just shuts down when running flash facebook applications, after I upgraded to Mountain Lion...Any ideas?

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, quite often, and when I run flash facebook games, PC freezes and restarts... Any ideas??? Had no problems before with previous OS...

I think I figured out Firefox, I went under Help > Troubleshooting Information > Reset Firefox.
I only have one account on my computer. Honestly I don't even really know how multiple accounts work. I've never played around with it. I already allowed Java - should I disable it?

  • Cannot see my G5 server after upgrading to Mountain Lion.  Help!

    Hi everyone!
I upgraded to Mountain Lion on my MBP and now my G5 Power PC that I have as a Media Server with all my iTunes movies and music is no longer visible!!  Really frustrating because there is a LOT on there.  It worked fine with Lion!  Am I going to have to downgrade to keep it working?
    Please advise.
I have an iMac which is running Lion and it sees it fine.  Apple TV sees it too.  Not a connectivity issue.

can it be something related to wi-fi?  I have read other posts talking about loss of connection using wifi.  I'm connecting my G5 through an airport express which is expanding my wifi generated from my Apple Time Capsule. It is quite difficult for me to relocate the server close to the Time Capsule and vice versa but if it works, at least that would be something.  It was working with Lion about 3 months ago - showing up in Finder, etc.

  • IPhoto update impossible after upgrading to Mountain Lion?

I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion today and when I subsequently went into the iCloud settings I was surprised to learn my version (9.1.3) of iPhoto was not capable of supporting iCloud. The information stated if iPhoto had not been installed from the App Store, then one should go the the apple icon in the top left corner and select "Software Update" from there. When I do that, it is reported I do not have an update available. However, if I open iPhoto and check for an update from its menu, it indicates an update (two, actually) is available but when I click the "Open Software Update" button, I am directed back to the App Store where...no update available is the information provided.
I would really like to use iCloud Photo Stream and is one of the reasons I ponied up $20 to "upgrade" to Mountain Lion. Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I have been a MS/Windows user for 20+ years and this initial exposure to difficulties with the Mac OS is not what I expected.
    Thanks.

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. The purpose of this test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Try the download while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • I have received my first mac from a designer friend who passed away recently. He had been having problems with crashing in Lion. His friend upgraded to Mountain Lion before his mac pro laptop, mid 2010, was sent to me. It has many problems and crashes

After sorting the material of my friends on the drive and creating a new user, I realized that the system was unusable with 30 or 40 crashes a day. I am a photoshop user and my friend had installed cs2 and upgraded to cs5. Actually everything was crashing and he had had the problems in Lion and they did not go away in Mountain Lion.
So my sense is the next best step is to uninstall and reinstall the operating system....but I'm entirely new to Mac though I quite good at problem solving on PC.  I have been messing around trying to get Mac up for over a week now so am learning quickly but feel uncertain about the steps in installation and don't want to mess things further.
    I have found this
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3351
    which seems useful.
I'm backing everything now to a usb drive, I have one copy in timemachine, but I need a clean install so I'm backing things manually as it's not so complicated my being a new user.
I have the original discs of Snow Leopard and a dmg file of Mountain Lion that were installed on this computer.
I hope I can find my friends Adobe id and password.....he does have a list of passwords, how can I check if they are correct.
Do I need to install Snow leopard from the original disks first and then update and then upgrade to Mountain Lion?
He upgraded first to Lion but I can't find that program to install, do I need it to get to Mountain Lion?
I don't have boot disks, does that matter?
What can I do about CS5 in a restore? I don't mind loosing other programs so much as this one.....I haven't seen the upgrades and only have CS2. What happens to all your programs...I guess they are just lost?
I haven't used mail, so I'm not worried about that.
Hope I can get some support with the process, any support will be valued that is at all related. Thank you

I am looking through this material, it's great. I'm wondering though, does command r work in #8 if my original disks where Snow Leopard?
Yes, when the operating system was upgraded to 10.7 then to 10.8, it 10.6 was replaced so those 10.6 disks are only good now for completely erasing the entire drive and reverting the machine back to 10.6
10.7 and 10.8 has a Recovery HD partiton on the boot drive.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
I have a mountain lion dmg file that was used to upgrade from Lion, would double clicking on this equal the same thing as reinstalling mountain lion over itself?
I wouldn't use this, as Apple is now changing things, so you need to reinstall 10.8 via the Recovery HD
I would prefer to keep CS5 photoshop
Not going to happen, if it's working now good for you. But according to Roaring Apps it's not working for 10.8. and it needs to be upgraded to CS6
If you revert the machine to 10.6 or 10.7, your going to erase CS5 and everything else.
Doing #20 would be a bit beyond me and I don't know another mac user so that I can work from their mac.
Why do you need another Mac users machine?
    Print out the instructions.
Here is some more about secure erasing for a new owner
How do I securely delete data from the machine?
    Installing OS X 10.8 again
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Does the reinstall have to go from Snow Leopard which was the base install, to lion then to mountain lion,
No, you erase and install 10.8
When Apple upgrades 10.6 to 10.7 then to 10.8, it's a complete operating system replacement, it's called a upgrade because it's still OS X but leaves all your files and most programs intact, none of the older operating system version remains.
Just like if you would upgrade Vista to Windows 7, or Windows 7 to Windows 7 Pro.
Can I install the mountain lion upgrade over a freshly installed Snow Leopard?
Yes, but it requires erasing the entire drive (including 10.8 Recovery HD) from the 10.6 disks, then installing 10.6, then Software Updating to 10.6.8, then buying 10.8 from the AppStore, then downloading it and installing it, then the machine will be 10.8
Or you can use the Recovery HD and just erase the Macintosh HD parittion then reinstall 10.8 that way for free.
How to reinstall just OS X or erase/install OS X
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
See what is confusing you is there is a hidden Recovery HD partition on the boot drive, it can do all the things like a OS X install disk can do, erase the Macintosh HD partiton (where OS X, programs and files are) and install a new copy of OSX from Apple's servers so it reboots to a brand new machine again (no Cs5 though)
Instead of a boot disk, there is a two bootable partitions on the boot drive, one is Recovery HD and the other is Macintosh HD which boots into OS X.
SO your command r booting the operating system in Recovery HD to erase the other partition and reinstall OS X into from Apple's servers, got it.?
Your going to need your AppleID and password to reinstall OS X 10.8, all part of the new world order.
