Multiple USB Cool pad

I was told that make mats that cool the laptop. My friend told me there was one that hooked up via USB then had 3-4 ports on it for multiple USB devices. That would really be perfect for me. Anyone know where i could find them online?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834999017&Tpk=notepal
2 usb, so just 1 empty after you plug in to the MBP; $28; I don't turn on the fans unless the idiot light goes on ... then it cools the MBP quick ... the NotePal is about one and one-half inches not wide enough, but that is ok; I'd rather have the smooth corners of the MBP than the sharper corners of the NotePal being outermost ...

  • Has anyone tried a 3rd party laptop cooling pad?

I have had my macbookpro 2.16 for about 2 1/2 weeks now, temp averages at about 40c during what i normally do, but the base of it is still too hot to comfortablly use on my lap. I have been using a large book as a buffer for the heat, recently I saw some 3rd party cooling pads with fans in them, running of USB power, has anyone tried one?

I use Vantec Lapcool 4. It folds and quite small for transporting (fits nicely into my bag). It uses 2 fans powered either by USB or by AC. Also adds 4 USB ports.
It makes about 10C defference. Since it keeps the case cooler and MBP doesn't build up heat like it used to, so works quite well.
The only con I've found is that the MBP slips a bit on the pad so I bought a package of small, clear, self-adhiesive, non-slip rubber cushions to put on the bottom of the lappad (~$2@Home Depot). Now MBP sits securely without any slippage.

  • Best cooling pad for Macbook pro 15" with retina (2013)?

    Hi,
I have a Macbook pro 15" with retina display, bought in 2013 and I started playing Starcraft on the machine. It becomes extremely hot, almost unbearable to touch and after searching online, I've been told that overheating of macs is relatively common. It is also extremely noisy. Firstly, is this something that I should be worried about, i.e. is it normal? (it is still under warranty) Also, I was looking to get a cooling pad- which one would you recommend? I couldn't find many macbook pro w/ retina display specific ones, so I thought maybe a generic laptop cooling pad?
There are so many to choose from and I don't know where to start! Perhaps the Cooler Master NotePal X3?
    Thank you for your help!

    is it normal?
Is the game rated for the GPU on the Mac (look at the game's specs)?  If not, then I would not run it on that Mac.
If it is rated for the GPU on the Mac, then no, it is not normal, and I would have the machine looked at, after running the hardware test that came with it.
See my tip about MacBook Pro heat:
kmb kmbp: How to deal with MacBook Pro and MacBook heat?
The GPU is the Graphics Processor Unit.
A cooling pad might help, but it might also mask a more serious problem.      I've used this cooler on Powerbooks before:
    http://www.amazon.com/Antec-Notebook-Cooler-USB-Powered/dp/B0000BVYTV
But only outside warranty.   Mind you, because of the heat, sometimes some of the darker markings on the edge of the cooler and come off on the bottom of the notebook.  Hence why I would only use it outside of warranty, since such marks may make the AppleCare representative think you might have done something to damage it.

  • My Belkin cooling pad?

For some reason,on the 2nd day I got my cooling pad,it makes a clunky disgusting sound when I turn on my computer after I wake up. Now,the sound got worse and when I move my laptop to adjust it,the fan once again makes the clunky sound. Some said that the fans were hitting the pad,but it wasn't. So I have no idea why the fan is doing this? Is it because my laptop is too hot?(Satellite A215-S7437). The cooling pad is Laptop Cooling pad model#F5L001 by Belkin.

I have been using a Belkin cooling pad since I bought the MacBook in 2008.....I run the MacBook in Clamshell mode using an external monitor......the MacBook will still heat up under heavy use, but it takes longer for it to do so and it cools down quicker....
.....using iStat Pro to monitor some temps... the bottom of the MacBook stays really cool as does the hard drive and I suspect the battery does too....it is the original battery and according to iStat it's Health remains at 100%...
....I have it plugged into a Firewire/USB hub instead of tying up one of my 2 USB ports.....

  • Y50 cooling pad

So I have just bought a coolermaster notepal xl for my y50 and while I'm gaming with this cooling pad at max it barely lowers the temperature. Anyone knows why it doesn't work and do I have to buy a pad that pushes or pulls air? This one pushes air in the vents. Thanks in advance!

A thought about cooling pads -
Cooling pads are only as effective as your room temperature. If your room temps are more than 30 C, then forget it, a normal cooling pad will mostly be useless (except from raising your laptop).
If your room temp is between 25 -30, you may see a difference of 2-3 degrees
if room temp is less than 25, you will get better results.
Now, about different cooling pads -
A bigger and faster fan is always welcome, some people also prefer the movable multiple small fans.
I have the coolermaster X2 model, which is a decent cooling pad (not great)
If you really want a difference buy something with high RPM, something greater than 1700rpm and also check how much airflow it does.
I think Cooler Master X3 or the SF-17 would be great for cooling. They are expensive but worth it.

  • External cooling pad suggestions?

    Hello everyone~
I'm looking for an external fan/cooling pad to use with my laptops. I've got an older HP and a 2-year old 12 inch iBook.
If possible, I need something that will prevent the fan in either one from turning on--the HP's fan has ceased to cool the computer properly when running CPU-intensive programs.
Oh. Nearly forgot this--I'm a nearly-broke college student, so the less money I spend the better. :-D
    Thanks for any suggestions
    ~Lyssa

    Lyssa,
Depending on what stores you've got you should be able to find a good one at an Office Depo type; there's a few that will fit up to 15" laptops, some of the best ones are made out of a kind of paperboard that really cool quickly; better than plastic. A quick google search should give you plenty; some at Amazon are even USB powered with fans in them, what will they think of next!
I wouldn't recommend the last; but the best ones hold the iBook at the proper angle for typing, almost 45∘. Of course you could do what a country boy like me and slap some wood together + a bit of cork.
A friend recommended one made by Rubbermaid which I had a hard time looking up but here's one link that looks to be your "Pro setup."

  • Cooling pad for HP Dv7 4020sa (17'')

    Hey everyone,
What cooling pad would you recommend to buy for a HP Dv7 4020sa (17'') for endlessly long gaming sessions?
    Thanks,
    J

    I am using this one:
    http://www.staples.com/Targus-Chill-Mat-XC-for-Laptops/product_857849?cmArea=SEARCH
It plugs into a USB port and has 4 additional USB ports and 2 fans. It's pretty big and should fit your 17". You can get it at any of the local stores like Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, etc.
The Targus cools my laptop by a few degrees but I actually got better results by just propping up the back of the laptop with a sturdy book. And with the Targus blowing air at my laptop the vents get dusty more often so I clean out the vents with compressed air every two weeks or so.

  • Cooling Pad

Hey guys. I just got the GS70 and I was wondering if anyone knows or has the best cooling pad? I'm not experienced enough to open up the notebook to change the cooling compound so thats out of the question for me. I play a lot of games and i have to cut it short or fan the bitch. I'll take any suggestions but i would love a USB powered cooler. Thanks

    think of it this way.
    a laptop produces heat.
    RFI.
    EMI.
you put it on your lap.
    what is between there?
sounds pretty simple if you dont wanna join the darwin awards to me.
coolers also make for a nice seat for a laptop to site where it can breath and air can flow.
even it it not on it have that effect.
most people put lattops on just about anything like beds, chairs things that wont allow good airflow or there legs and yes people do end up in the er with burns from them.
it a commen sence thing not to leave on your lap sleeping but it happens.
    then there the reproductive concerns.
    wanna take that chance?

  • Best macbook cooling pad

I recently bought a 15 inch macbook pro.  It gets hotter than crap when recharging and when playing a game using the DVD drive.  What's the best cooling pad for this laptop?
    TIA

Best is a subjective term, however, the easiest and inexpensive solution, is to buy a ordinary kitchen sponge, cut it in half length-wise, then place the pieces underneath the bottom along the back edge of the computer. Keep in mind, the abrasive side face down.
That should allow a sufficient amount of airflow space to disepate more heat. If you are a student, use erasers.
However, do not buy any of the cooling pads that have a flip out stand underneath to provide support near the back, as this also commonly doubles as a small door that houses the usb connector for the fan. I made the mistake of purchasing such a thing and it broke with pressure. Now the thing wobbles, and I use a ordinary kitchen sponge to stablise it, as I plug in the useless usb fan (I feel the need to eek out as much value from it as possible, relative to price).
Cool advantage to using the sponges, after you are done you can use it to wipe the top case and keyboard to keep things clean...

Can I set up multiple usb hard drives- one for time machine and a second for media?
    Yes.
Can one also print wirelessly with an old HP C6280 printer?
Possibly by using an Airport Express, but depends on what type of port connection the printer requires.

  • I would like to know which cooling pad will be suitable for my HP Pavilion 15-E016TX

please suggest with some compatable colling pads as per my model

Also if your working on a desktop make sure it is free of clutter so there is proper airflow around your laptop that will do more to keep your laptop running at optimim temperature. Yes it will blow hot air but that is the nature of cooling system for laptop unlike a Desktop/Tower. Always keep the ports/vents where you fans are free of clutter and stuff near it as it performs best that way. Heat remember is the enemy of laptop and blocking the vents/ports will shorten your laptop lifespan faster then it would be otherwise. I use my laptop on desk flat with the feet giving the clearance it needs and it runs fine it does give off heat but that is what you want it to do that means it is working. Now for Gaming laptop that a totally different animal it should be designed for effective cooling and if not that is a bad design and no amount of cooling pad will fix it. So keep all vents/ports on your laptop unblocked this will insure airflow dynamics work in your laptop optimum cooling. Just proping the back up with square erasures will do more then a cooling pad as that will block your latop fan from working properly as well. Now if it was a vented rack that it sits on that is even better that will insure there is plenty of air flow under the laptop to pull the air in and keep the Processor and or Video Processor properly vented.

  • Qemu/kvm: multiple USB devices from the same vendor

    Hi fellow gurus,
Trying to pass-through two USB devices. One works just fine, but two produces an error.
They are the same type from the same vendor and libvirt seems to have no way to differentiate between the two, as it only uses the <vendor id='0xnnnn'/> & <product id='0xnnn'/> strings and not serial number of the device.
There is a reference -unanswered- here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1090602

As I understand it, host:bus.addr is an alternative to host:vendor_id:product_id. So if I wanted to pass both of these thumb drives:
    $ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1e3d:2093 Chipsbank Microelectronics Co., Ltd CBM209x Flash Drive (OEM)
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 1e3d:2093 Chipsbank Microelectronics Co., Ltd CBM209x Flash Drive (OEM)
I would use host:001.002 and host:001.003 . Note I said would use, because I've never tried it.
And usb_add is a qemu monitor command. See sections 3.4 and 3.5 of the doc you linked for info on the monitor.
All this being said, I don't use libvirt stuff so I don't know if it has the capability to specify USB devices by bus.addr or whether or not it enables the monitor.

  • MacBook Pro Cooling Pad for Gaming

Ok, I'm having problems with MacBook Pro overheating when I'm playing a game and the FPS drops very low, so does anybody know the best solution for this situation?

Cooling pads will not work as there are no ports to remove hot air on the bottom of the laptop. The only vents on the macbook/macbook pro line are in the back side of the computer. As there are no cooling pads that have functions to suck hot air/flow cold air to that specific vent, all conventional cooling pads are useless. the most you will do with normal cooling pads/gaming colling pads, is possibly lower external temperature by 2 degrees at the most.  unless you manage a way to function the computer without a bottom case, use a desk that has a built in liquid nitrogen colling spot, or drill holes into the bottom of your laptop, cooling pads are useless for macbook pros.
sorry to tell you this, but trust me, i've gone through this with many people and genius' and 1800 apple reps.
best advice, use your laptop in a well ventilated area and air out your vents with dust spray cans regularly.
oh and do not use on your lap. dust is composed of fibers, skin and other foreign objects.  using it on your bed, your clothes, etc increases the chance of dust build up inside your computer.  use on a solid surface. Glass desks (like i have) are able to disipate the heat best IMO.
