Multiple User accounts on one PC (Vista)

My wife and I share a PC running Vista. We each have separate user accounts. I have our music stored in a a shared (designated "Public Music")directory. However, every time I add music, it doesn't appear in her iTunes library until I add them while in her accout. Moreover, onmore than one occasin, after I have added music, her entire library has been corrupted, with itunes unable to find the relevant files.
How can I set iTunes up so irrespective of user account, we share the same iTunes library and irrespective of the user account that is active, any of our multiple Ipods can sync?
Is this as simple as placing the iTunes library file in a pubic directory?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Of course.
And instructions can depend on which OS X is installed.
For v10.7 Lion > OS X Lion: Create a new user account

  • Login with Multiple User Accounts From One Machine

We have users with multiple accounts (Admin and Standard) in our organization and we want them to be able to launch RemoteApps from RDWeb using both accounts at the same time (from a single workstation).  For example we would want their standard account
to launch the RemoteApp HEAT and their admin account to launch the RemoteApp Exchange Management Console.  Is this possible?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not talking about concurrent sessions for a single user - I'm talking about multiple user accounts being used from an individual machine at the same time.  The situation would be as follows:
I log on to the computer with my normal user account (lets call it NZiehnert)
I launch an application from the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections shortcut in my start menu, which launches the application as NZiehnert
I launch the RDWeb access portal and log on using a different account (lets call it NZiehnert.admin)
I attempt to launch the same application from step 2 (or another application that runs from the same server) and instead of launching as NZiehnert.admin the application runs as NZiehnert
Basically, we have administrative tools that we wish to put into our remote environment, but we also have tools that are used by the same users normal accounts.  So we need a way for those users to be able to access the applications as a different user
    - at one point I was able to generate this dialog, but I'm not sure how to recreate it:

  • In trying to share music with multiple user accounts on one comp, I quit itunes, located my itunes media folder, moved it to a publicly accessible location. Problem is it didn't work and now I can't get it all back to the way it was.

In trying to share music with multiple users on one computer, I followed the directions on "iTunes:How to share music between different accounts on a single computer" (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1203). I did something wrong because i lost iTunes
Tried to put files back, but it is not the same. Plugged in my ipod and it is not recognizing my computer.
Can someone tell me where iTunes should be, and what sub files should be included with it. Thanks!

If you are seeing the "Connect to iTunes" logo, then your device is in Recovery Mode, and you will need to restore it:

  • Sharing Itunes Music Library among Multiple User Accounts on One Mac

I have 3 user accounts set up on the computer and one itunes account authorized on all 3 user accounts. I have the music library files placed in the shared folders and permissions set up to allow all users to read & write the music. However, only my user account (the main account with admin privileges) is able to access the music unless I log into my user account, run iTunes with sharing enabled, then exit to the login window. Then the other users can access the shared iTunes library. I have preferences setup to use the same library folders.
An earlier version of iTunes used to allow me to do this, and iPhoto still does allow a similar setup with my photo library.
Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks!

I have an iMac at home with 4 users. I've recently struggled with this and thought I had a working solution ...
I created a new iTunes folder off of root. I then logged in as each user and set the path on their Advanced Tab to /iTunes/iTunes Music/ and dragged and dropped their local iTunes Music folders (~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/) into iTunes. This copies files that aren't there but skips anything that might be in two peoples library.
Then iTunes 8.1 came out and now things are broken. I've rebuilt the index by doing an Add to Library but my Podcasts don't download any more. 8-(

  • Multiple User accounts on one computer

Is there anyway of setting Itunes to use one central music library file rather than having a seperate one for each user? I want the 2 accounts to be able to access the same library and when songs are added under one profile, to be shown on the other users library.
    If that makes sense...any ideas?

  • Multiple users accounts on one mac computer count as more that one device in iCloud or iTunes?

I have two apple computers, each with two users. Each user is signed in their account using their own appleID. Does this count as two computers or four computers in the Apple device count limit in iCloud or iTunes?

  • Multiple User Accounts to One Photostream

    Hi
I have iPhone 4 and a MacBook Pro.  Both with latest versions of iOS5, Lion and iTunes.  My photostream is up and running perfectly as is everything else using iCloud.
My wife has ordered an iPhone 4S and already has her own apple ID account.
Is it possible for us to push all our photos to the one photostream I already have setup?
I have read various threads on similar topics and am still at a loss as to how we can consolidate our 'pushed' information.  Ideally, both iPhones should push all information (photos, calendar, etc) to one instance of iTunes, iCal and iPhoto.
I would be most grateful for any suggestions or feedback.
    Kind regards

In a similar boat....looking for a good solution for a family of 5...
In our home we have 5 people with their own iphones, 2 ipads, and 3 macbooks. Looking for a way we could keep all of our photos synced with 1 iphoto library...
Looking at getting a mac mini as a hub that all devices will sync up to over wifi and photo stream..
we have 1 main apple ID that we use for purchases, and each device each of us has our own icloud account on each iphone..
If I use the main apple ID under the iCloud settings for each phone and only check photo stream, will pics taken from each phone all filter into the same photo stream (and into the same iphoto library)?
If I then add the other icloud accounts under the mail settings I can then have each phone have it's own synced mail & contacts....but I don't see a way that each device could have it's own reminders and notes (this only appears in iCloud settings)....I don't want all of my reminders to go to everyone else..
Any suggestions???  I basically just want to be able to have all of our photos easily sync into a single consildated library (iphoto or aperture)

  • Sharing one iphoto library between multiple user accounts

I hav an extensive photo library and would like to share this across multiple users on the one computer. Am I able to do this without having to move the library to an external hard drive?

    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. The problem here is that OS X works very hard to keep your data safe and secure from the other users. You're trying to beat what's built in to the system. So, to beat the system
    Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.
Lastly: This method seems a little clunky at first, but works very well. Most importantly, it uses the System to do the job for you.
Create a new Account on your Mac, call it Media. Create an iPhoto Library there. (BTW: This will work for iTunes too.)
Enable Sharing on the Library:(Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other accounts. In those accounts, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. The Library will appear in the other source pane.
This means that both users will be able to see the pics. If you want to use a pic then simply drag it from the shared Library to your own in the iPhoto Window. This means that each user can have their own edits.
If you want to add photos to the Library: Log into the Media account for that purpose.
To make it all seamless: Set your Mac to log into the Media Account automatically. Set iPhoto to launch on log-in. Then switch to your own account using Fast User Switching.
Net result: a Library that's permanently available to all users but also protected. Each user can have their own versions of the pics if they want.
No partitioning, no permissions issues. Uses no extra disk space. What's not to like?

  • How to set up multiple mac user accounts and one itunes (ie saved in public folder)

new windows migration to mac; trying to configure multiple user accounts on a new mac (os x 10.7) and have the itunes set up so we all point to the same instance (ie, public folder, one apple id).  need some help structuring/ sharing/ mapping please.  thanks.

  • Multiple websites on multiple user accounts. Want all websites in one user

I have multiple websites in multiple user accounts. At the time I started this way iWeb 08' didn't allow more then one website per user.
I now have three limited user accounts with three iweb sites. One in each account. I'd like to move two of them to the main user account and have all three available to me in the user account I call mine. Is this possible with iWeb 09'? i can, by hand, recreate them in the main account, but I'd like an easier solution.
I am hoping it is possible to combine the files from each "Domain.sites" and make one magical come together with each site in place.
    Thanks Everyone

Move all of the Domain.sites2 files to one user account and rename them to represent the site inside, i.e. Myfirstsite.sites2, Mysecondsite.sites2, etc. Put them all in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
Using the application suggested by Wyodor merge the sites into a new domain file. You can only merge 2 sites at a time so you'll have to do 2, then select that new one and merge with a 3rd file, etc.
New domain files are created by the merge process so your original domain files will be untouched.
OR, you can leave the domain files as they are, named individually, and use iWebSites to choose and open the site you want to work on and publish. I manage multiple sites with iWebSites:
This way the domain files loads more quickly and if there's a problem only one site is affected.

  • Multiple .Mac accounts, on one Admin account on one computer

    Hello all,
I am trying to have multiple .Mac accounts to publish independent iWeb websites on unique domains (the apple iweb provided ones) but it appears I can only have one .Mac account on my computer's network user to do the easy one click Publish button to.
I don't want to use multiple user accounts on my computer as I'd like to have access to all my photos, music, videos and everything else and easily do so without logging out from my main account.
    What am I missing?
    Many thanks,
    Michael

The only safe and easy method is multiple user accounts.
You can easily store your iPhoto and music Libraries on an external drive and share them between accounts.
