Multiple users on single computer

We're helping a church train their volunteers to use
Contribute. In their small computer lab, volunteers will edit their
particular directories/pages. We can easily create keys for each of
them with their specific allowed directories - can multiple users
share a single computer and let us achieve limited access for each
user? How do we set up Contribute or the connection key to demand a
user log-on? This church has no publishing server. Is this
possible?

I don't think so because Contribute does this weird thing
where it stores sftp / ftp information in your registry key
(encrypted) and then regardless of what you enter when it prompts
you to enter that data it still uses whatever was first stored for
that domain in your registry. So if anyone ever opts to "save" the
login information, ever, then it's set until you clear your
registry key chain. (annoying)
It would be possible if you made each computer specific to
role, like all roles that use this computer uses a sftp / ftp
information that is on the same level.
Long story short, you can do this, but it might cause
problems when users don't understand why they can't do things they
normally could do (sftp information was saved as a lower level
user) or a low level access user who has privledges they should not
have (sftp information was saved as a high level user).

  • Multiple users on single computer mounting same RAID drive

    Hi I'm a newbie:)
I have multiple users on a single computer which need to mount the same RAID drive on a different networked computer. I have no problem making the mounts, the only thing is that when each user makes its mount the drive appears multiple times when doing an ls /Volumes. Ie, the first user mounts sparkle and it appears as sparkle. The second user mounts sparkle and it appears as sparkle-1. The third user mounts sparkle and it appears as sparkle-2. In the finder they all show up as just plain sparkle, but for running scripts, the hyphen-# screws things up. Does anyone know of a way to have the same drive mounted without the hyphen-#s?
    Many thanks!
    Megan

What kind of scripts? I don't think there's any way around the naming problem, but you could use regular expressions. I don't see why sparkle* shouldn't do the trick, or add sparkle-[0-9$] to whatever constuct you have.

  • Time Machine with multiple users on single computer

    Hi All,
I have an iMac at home with multiple user log ons. I'm about to get the Time Capsule and start using Time Machine (currently I use backup).
When I switch on Time Machine, does it switch on for all users, or will each user need to turn on Time Machine?
If I have to switch on Time Machine for each user, will each user's time machine back up the entire computer (so I'll have two complete copies on my computer on the external drive)?
If this does occur, can I control what Time Machine backs up so TM only backs up user specific information?
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

When you first backup it will backup your whole system (user directories, system directories, applications, etc) unless you specify folders to exclude. When a user account is added to the computer, their home folder will be added to the backup in a similar way to if you added a new application. It will back up the directory structure exactly as it is on your main hard drive. The backup will essentially keep a copy of the whole hard drive on the backup drive.
The Time Machine will either be on for the whole system, or off for the whole system. It is not on or off for a specific user account. Users (depending on if they've got admin privileges) may have control over turning time machine on or off, but this does not change who can access the backups. All users will be able to invoke Time Machine to get to their backed up files.
Time Machine does not make separate backups for individual users. Instead, it preserves the permissions for backed up files, so while every user can access the backups, they cant just browse other users' files on the backup. The same restrictions on the main drive are carried over to the backup. Still, a standard user who's lost a file will be able to go into Time Machine, access a backed up version of the file, and restore it. Unlike standard users who are restricted from seeing other users' files in the backups, Admins are also restricted but they can be authenticated to view other users' files if they want to.

  • ITunes library synchronization across multiple users on one computer

I've got a PC running MS XP/Home, with a separate user account for each family member. I also repointed all the iTunes library file pointers to the SAME file on the "D" hard drive (taking all that pressure off the "C" drive, which is filling up!)--so each iTunes incarnation for each user points to the same (master) file.
But when I download music from the Music Store into the library from my user account, it doesn't show up in the iTunes library listing when my daughter logs in using her account--and she can't download it to her iPod.
Why? I bought it for her; why should she have to download it? It's all on one computer!
Is it that iTunes really can't handle multiple users on one computer??????? I don't get it...this isn't any copyright or license issue.
I'd appreciate any tips to get the iTunes on one user's account to "restudy" the library to see if it's been changed by another user. We're all one family on our one computer!

  • I have multiple users on my computer with separate iTunes libraries.  can we share?

I have multiple users on my computer with separate iTunes libraries.  Is it possible to share the libraries?  The "share library" preference doesn't seem to work.

Hi b noir, I also have two users on one pc with two different iTunes libraries.  But I also want to put them onto an external hard drive so that I can free up some memory on the pc.  So I figure I need to consolidate the two users iTunes libraries first before moving to hard drive?  But not quite sure how to do that on the iTunes 11?  Thanking you in advance!!

  • HT5625 multiple users on 1 computer and accessing

My household has multiple users on the computer.  I downloaded while logged into my husband's iTunes.  Now I can't update some of my apps because we can't access his password and his email he had used no longer exits.  How can I transfer those apps to my iTunes account instead?

You can't transfer content from one account to another. Your husband will need to change his email address to one that is valid.

  • Multiple iTunes users on single computer

First, I would like to point out that I am sonehwat comp savvy but not an expert. Here is my deal..my son and I each have an ipod and we both use iTunes. I am trying to find a way to have a single iTunes library that either of us can access taht will hold all of our music. I have been using iTunes longer and initially gave him access to my library by copy the link and the xml files to his iTunes. The librayr is intended to reside on my external Maxtor Hard Drive. Now however, when either of us updates our libray, the other doesn't get updated automatically. Can someone give me proven, specific instructions on how to achieve my single, synched library goal? Thank you. I hope that isn't too wordy or selfish sounding.

The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • Multiple Users on 1 Computer

I am trying to set up my computer to support 2 Ipods; one under my user name and the other under my wife's. I set up the iTunes folder as a shared resource but only my Windows account can access this, I'm getting an "access denied" error when trying to point my wife's iTunes there.
Does anyone know a better way to use 1 computer to host 2 iPods with different playlists but drawing from the same music database?
Or, any ideas how to solve the "access denied" error?
    Thx, Chris

  • How to use Keychain for multiple users on one computer?

I have a new Macbook Pro with Yosemite.  I just moved over from PC for my work computer and the Keychain thing is killing me!  I am a social media consultant so I manage multiple accounts for multiple clients.  I need a way to log in and out as them on many different platforms.  The reality is that I am the only user but I log in and out of different things as if this was a public computer with multiple users.
PC allowed me a drop-down option with each login.  For example the email box could be clicked and then I could select the client email that I needed to fill in.  The password would then auto-populate.  Is there any setting I can change to make this happen on a Macbook? I have been logging in, deleting the info in Keychain, then logging in for the next client, delete...etc.
Most password managers don't work because of this same problem.  Please don't recommend a password manager app unless it can handle logging in and out of (for example)10 different LinkedIn profiles.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Please read the warranty paperwork that came w/your computer.
You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked.
You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out.  Let Apple deal w/the problems.

  • Cisco AnyConnect Multiple Users on One Computer

                       Hello All,
I work for County Government and we are attempting to swtich from the Cisco VPN Client to the AnyConnect Client. It seems to work great when you have a single user assigned to a pc, however, it is a different story when you have multiple users assigned to one machine. Basically we do not know who will be logging into a machine during a certain day so we could have 5-6 users needing one pc and all of them being able to use the AnyConnect when they log in with their own Windows credentials. I understand there is an .XML file out there with some information that is needed but is there a way to modify it and place in each user's profile so that it will work for all of them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

By default, a locally logged-in user can establish a VPN connection only when no other local user is logged in. The VPN connection is terminated when the user logs out, and additional local logons during a VPN connection result in the connection being torn down. Remote logons and logoffs during a VPN connection are unrestricted.
With this feature, AnyConnect disconnects the VPN connection when the user who established the VPN connection logs off. If the connection is established by a remote user, and that remote user logs off, the VPN connection is terminated.
You can use the following settings for Windows Logon Enforcement:
•Single Local Logon—Allows only one local user to be logged on during the entire VPN connection. With this setting, a local user can establish a VPN connection while one or more remote users are logged on to the client PC, but if the VPN connection is configured for all-or-nothing tunneling, then the remote logon is disconnected because of the resulting modifications of the client PC routing table for the VPN connection. If the VPN connection is configured for split-tunneling, the remote logon might or might not be disconnected, depending on the routing configuration for the VPN connection. The SingleLocalLogin setting has no effect on remote user logons from the enterprise network over the VPN connection.
•SingleLogon—Allows only one user to be logged on during the entire VPN connection. If more than one user is logged on, either locally or remotely, when the VPN connection is being established, the connection is not allowed. If a second user logs on, either locally or remotely, during the VPN connection, the VPN connection is terminated.

  • ICal sharing with multiple users on same computer

How can i set up iCal to share with multiple users on the same computer?

yes, BUT... you need a central repository for the master calendars, usually referred to a Calendar Server. If you are not using a Mac OS X Server on your private network, I think you can use web-based servers that use standard calendar protocol.
