Multiple users one pc

we have set up 2 users on our pc. we each want to maintain our own library, but want to share music between the 2 ipod libraries. got that done, no problem so far.
however, when 1 user makes changes to the info on an existing song in their library that is already being shared, the other user gets an exclamation point that the song is no longer found in his library, and must go find the song again in the itunes music file.
is it possible without going to each individual song for the changes made in one library to automatically update in the other library or must you go find each song to get rid of the error message on an individual basis?
please help! lots of songs to fix.
thanks.

You may want to set your smaller iPod to manual update that way you can drag whatever songs or playlists you choose to it: "Managing Your Songs Manually" http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/tutorial/ipgettingstartedt3.html
For info:
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • Multiple Users / One Unity Voicemail Box

When you have one box that has multiple users that can access it, is there a way to limit the access to the box to one user at a time?  I can't find where or if this is even an option to do.

Just confirmed that it is not supported.
    Refer to the following thread:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/312369
    Jeff Lindborg says:
"Neither Unity or Connection are designed for multiple users accessing  the same mailbox at the same time - neither system "locks" mailboxes so  you will always have windows for those types of issues (i.e. someone  marks a message read right before another user goes to hear it).  This  is not a supported scenario in either product line and never has been."
    Hope that helps.

  • Multiple Users one AppleID in iCloud

I have mutiple users on our PC with seperate itunes libraries and iphones but all using the same AppleID, when one of the users syncs with icloud contacts the contacts form the main user are brought over to that iphone, how do i differentiate between users on the same AppleID in iCloud?

Well, on a Mac you'd create multiple users and they'd have their own stuff. Maybe on a PC you can do the same?

  • Multiple Users one NAS

I have three Macs in the house with multiple users on them. To make things "easy" I have a Network Attached Storage device which stores all of our common files (music and photos). With each user, their iTunes directory is set to the same NAS directory. I've been doing this for years, without any problems.
This made it possible for my spouse to buy new music on iTunes, and everyone else in the house would be able to see the music on their iTunes, and rate it themselves, or remove it from their local playlist. Also, I have everyone in the house setup with the same automount script so we all use the same username and password when accessing the NAS.
Anyway, this year, things have been weird. It appears that now iTunes Store only allows the person who purchased the music to actually see it. So, my wife purchased some new music, and I can't access the directory where the music is on the NAS. Again, we both log into the NAS with the same username and password.
When I am on my user account on the Mac, I don't have permissions to access the directory. From a command line perspective I see the following permissions:
    d---------@
Now, when I log in on my wife's user account on the same Mac, I can see the directory, and from a command line perspective I see the following permissions:
    drwx------@
Does anyone know why this is happening? Any way to fix this?
    Thanks for your insight!

  • Multiple Users One Computer sharing photo's

    Hi,
I have two user's on my computer, both with different log on's etc. How can another user look at my photo's that are currently in iPhoto with out having to move folders around.
Can this also be done with iTunes so that we can share music without having to make duplicates?
    Thanks.

    Hi Fancy,
The first group of links will tell you how another user can view your iPhoto Library.
    SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

SHARING ONE IPHOTO LIBRARY BETWEEN USERS ON SAME MACHINE
You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

  • IWeb won't publish my daughter's sites (multiple users; one computer)

Our daughters have their own computer, so I created two user accounts (one for each). They also each have their own MobileMe account (under a family plan).
Each has created a site in iWeb. However, I can't get iWeb to upload either site. Each time I click publish, it says "sign in to Mobile Me" and the system preferences window pops up. It seems to log in to the account, automatically. iWeb has a window open saying "Logging in" When I click to return to iWeb, that "logging in" window disappears and nothing else happens. Nothing is uploaded.
Even if I try again, it says "log in" again. I don't understand why they aren't logged in automatically, all the time, under their username and why iWeb won't upload anything.

    Jim:
    Try the following. Even though it's for a different problem, mail in this case, it has helped others with your problem;

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
*Here is what fixed it*. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.

  • Multiple Users, One Library

I have made myself a new user on our emac, with access to ITunes. I am taking our computer to another site and don't want anyone messing with it while I am not around. My logical thinking told me that when we have one ITunes on our harddrive that it would share it's information with all users on the machine. When I logged in and opened up ITunes the library had nothing in its list. Can I share the library with my husband (which is our normal login)? Or do I have to start all over again?

iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer tells you two methods.
If you want one central library, use the second method.
    Hope this helps.

  • Multiple Users, one computer, share music?

Hello! We have several users on one computer, and 1 external hard drive connected. The internal drive isn't very big, the computer is pretty old. There are a lot of audio files on the external that all the users would like to have in their respective iTunes library (and on their iPods). Can this be done? and how? Is this even a Home Sharing problem? If not, I'm sorry.
    Thank you!
    Joanna

On a Mac, you should be able to stream music from one user account to another via Home Sharing. (That way, you can just maintain one set of content files in one user account on the Mac.)
Try Chris's instructions from the following post:
iTunes Home Sharing now works between users on same computer

  • Multiple Users, One PC, Different GB iPods

We have 1 iPod that has 4 GB of memory. We got that first and have a lot of songs in iTunes already.
Now we have a new 1 GB iPod. How do I have my own separate library for this iPod and how do I put songs onto the iPod? I've been trying, but I can't figure out how to download a playlist alone or a segment of songs in the library to the smaller iPod.
    Any info appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Multiple users - one apple ID?

So I recently got the new iPad and my wife recently got a new iPhone 4s.  I am trying to come up with the best way to manage both of our devices on our home PC. Should we share a single apple ID? We have always shared music tastes and with this iCloud thing (which I must admit to not knowing much about) what happens to sharing if we have unique ID's?  Any help or thoughts on this situation would be very appreciated

Everything Apple has publicly released about iOS 5 is on there web pages and available for you to read.  Until it's released, the only legal users are developers who are bound by NDA not to discuss the beta and it's features. Wait till Wednesday.

To create another account in Windows just goto Start> Control Panel> User Accounts> Create a new account.
This article will show you how to share the music between the user accounts:

  • File sharing across multiple user accounts on the same machine

    Hello,
I try to figure out how multiple users (my wife and I) on the same mac can have equal access to files on the local drive without granting that access to all users on that machine or even the rest of the world.
My research sofar hasn't come up with a satisfying solution. Here are the solutions that I am looking at:
    1. Enable a permission system that ensures access to both users in all cases (file/directory creation, copy and move).
I only found a suitable solution for creating and copying files/directories but not for moving them.
See the following articles for reference:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/20787617#20787617 Setting up a shared structure that works e.g. for iPhoto Library but not for moving files to and from
https://discussions.apple.com/message/4005647#4005647 Helpful information on POSIX Permissions, ACL's an Permission inheritance
This would be my first choice if I can get around the problem of moving files...
    2. Disk Image
Create a disk image which ignores persmissions and set permissions for the file that contains the image instead.
Read this article to get further details: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198
This solution will work but has a few disadvatages:
There's no mutual access from multiple user accounts since an image may only be mounted by one user at a time.
One has to create a startup script that mounts the image upon login which would create a first come first serve for access to the image content.
    3. Using a file sharing protocol (e.g. afp or smb) locally.
The idea behind it is to have a server providing the files mutually to multiple users one the same machine. At them moment this seems to be the most promising approach to me.
Unfortunately I can get acces from another machine but not from the same machine. Has anyone ever tried to access the file sharing (afp or smb) from the same machine on which the server is located?
Has anyone got some helpful hints for me?
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but you didn't specify details, and it was worth checking whether or not you had overlooked this approach.
The problem you're having (as I suppose you already know) is that any new disk item inherits the permissions of the folder it is originally created in in.  These permissions (sensibly enough) need owner or administrator permission to change once they've been established; that will happen when you copy a file to a new location (because that's essentially creating a new file) but not when you move it. any of the following would work:
changing the permissions on newly created files for both users so that they all explicitly give r/w access to a particular group.
writing a droplet that would change the permissions of files dropped on it and move them programmatically to the shared folder
set up a folder action or launchd job that would watch the shared folder and automatically convert permissions on files placed in it.
The last would be the approach I would take, but...  which appeals to you?

  • How to assign task to multiple user & current task in waiting state

    Hi,
In the workflow i want to assign the tak to multiple user one by one & current task should remain open & should also wait for completion of assigned tasks. for Example - I have Task 1 & Task 2.
From Task 1, user can assign the Task 2 to different multiple user at the same time or user can assign the Task 2 to different users at some time interval.
Now, Task 1 user should wait to complete the all Task 2 assignment or Task 1 user can close the Task 2. If Task 2 user is not responding.
Task 1 should remain in open state till Complete action not taken.
Please help me how can i achieve the above scenario in BPM11g 11.1.1.6.0

I think you can sue Workcenter option here. I generally do some coding in User Exit for FM ME_REL_GET_RESPONSIBLE
which is attached to Rule 20000027.
For the Release effected step you can add but I think you have to create cuistom Wflow for that. You cannot use WS20000075.
