Multiple Users Working on a UPK

Hi, can multiple users work on a single UPK? In previous versions it was not possible for multiple users to create topics and then link these to the same module. Therefore, if we needed multiple users to work on a UPK one person would create the module and topic and then export the details. Then, a second person could import and edit the UPK. Are there any other methods for multiple users to work on the same UPK? In the HCM training Peter mentioned something about working together in multiuser env but I'm not sure if this covers this requirement. Also, its worth mentioning that we have installed UPK Developer for 'Single User'. Thanks for your help. Laura

Hello,
Yes, a multi-user environment of UPK is when UPK Server is installed to a server and UPK clients are installed on author's desktops. This provides the authors with a shared, collaborative environment where they can check out content to make changes and check in content to make the newly updated content available to someone else.

  • Multiple users working in the same document and same time.

    Hello Guys,
and thanks for looking into this
At our company we're still in doubt wether or not to update our software to CC or just update to CS6. Currently we all have different versions (going from CS3 to CS5), and that's really time-consuming.
The most important question would be if it is possible in the CC to work in the same file at the same time.
Working on magazines, catalogues or books this would be a major time-saving option!
For example I could work on chapter 1 and 6, whilst my collegues are working on the other chapters.
The other users could then see how far I am on my chapters, change things (make notes) etc.
Is this possible in CC or not?
Thanks for your answers and time.
    Best regards,
    Sam
PS: If there are major setbacks working on the cloud (between multiple users/computers) please let us know.

    Let me attempt an answer.
Short answer, no. Multiple users cannot edit a the same file at the same time.
You'll need a content management system, to enable check in/check out, prevent overwrites etc. But (there's always a but), Creative Cloud offers several workflows and tools that can be used to help streamline multi-user publication workflows.
Using Creative Cloud will ensure that all users will be on the same version of the software, and there won't be any accidental lockouts due to format changes, and no need to run arounf to get the document downsaved. All users also have access to the latest features as soon as they become availble.
For products, such as books and magazines: InDesign needs to be the primary software that you use. When you design the content architecture of your publication, you can employ the following techniques and tools:
Break up your publications into several INDD files, let's say for file for each story.
Compile the individual files into an InDesign book.
Link Ps and Ai or other files when you place them in the InDesign layout. That way whenever a designer updates an asset, InDesign will notify you that a linked file has changed and you can choose to update the link.
InCopy was recently added to the Creative Cloud. Authors can can edit stories without actually having to open the InDesign files. For details see the InCopy help. InCopy has several workflows that can help out in this kind of setup.
Other than the Creative Cloud apps, you'll also need to setup folder and directory structures on the shared storage location.
Setup a shared location/drive so that all users have access to the linked files.
Control read/write access to individual files using the OS commands on the file directory/server. For example, Layout designers only have edit permissions on the layout (indd files); while Photographers can only edit .psd files, and so on. For small teams this might not be necessary, but for larger teams this may help.
You could also consider storing your files using a Content Management System. You'll need to evaluate the cost and benefits properly.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can you have multiple users working off the same Mac pro at the same time with multiple monitors but doing different things?

I'm buying desktops for a start up company and was wondering if I could purchase a single Mac Pro and run multiple monitors to allow multiple users to work on the computer at the same time. These users would be doing different tasks but I would hope to accomplish that on a single desktop. I know that screen sharing is possible but with only one user controlling both of the screens. Thanks in advance, sorry for my apple ignorance!

A lot of companies are buying or leasing laptops to be used at the office by day, and carried home at night.
Some companies are doing "Bring your own device". Bring a device to receive email -- computer/smartphone/tablet you already have, or have an allowance to buy one for your use.
If Capital is short (and when is it not) leasing computers, to be turned in a few years, can be a huge savings because the cost is expensed as incurred. The alternative is laying out cash today, but not being able to expense the cost this year. Instead, the computer expense must be recovered over their useful life (often five years) through depreciation.

  • Multiple users working using the server from laptops

    Hello everyone.
We have a Mac Mini Server in the house, and a couple of Mac laptops.
I know that using screen sharing I can control the server from a laptop. However, when doing this whoever is physically sitting at the server will see their mouse possessed and not be able to do their own thing on the server.
Given the fact that we have multiple users, would it be possible to have multiple people use their laptops to view the desktop of the server as they work on it, while logged in to their own individual user accounts, and control the server independently through those accounts?
Not sure if that description was clear or not, but I think you'll get my gist. Basically I want to use the laptops as thin clients to work using the server. Also key is that multiple people be able to do this at the same time.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

The Mac OS X graphical interface is a single-seat design. One Mac, one seat.
There is no analog to Microsoft Windows Terminal Services, nor to multiple sessions on Windows XP Pro or analogous, nor multi-seat X Windows, nor to Thin Clients, with Mac OS X nor Mac OS X Server, short of the add-on package Aqua Connect or analogous.
One of the usual mechanisms for controlling a Mac OS X Server is via the Server Admin tools. These are independent.
Command-level management operations are also available via ssh and analogous. You can ssh into the server and manage many of the aspects of Mac OS X client and Mac OS X Server from the command line. These are fully independent sessions.
Typical Mac OS X Server doesn't require all that much management, and it's probably not the best to have an interactive user operating on a server box regardless. This because servers typically support multiple users, so outages and reboots and operational errors and crashes will effect more than just the user in the seat at the server.

  • Multiple Users working on same Model

    Hi
In a Multi user environment if a particular Modle is being worked by many user at the same time, what is the impact.
Will it give a Problem or all changes can be saved?
    Thanks & Regds
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi,
Although multiple users can access the same database and same group folder simultaneously, only one user can access a particular model at a time. The subsequent users who tries to open a model which is already opened by a user, they get a message that the model is in use by that user.
Only the first user who has opened the model can make changes to the objects / properties of the model. The users who have subsequently opened the model, will have Read-only access to the model. They can however view the changes to the model, if the first user is making the changes simultaneously, by pressing the 'refresh' (F5) button regularly.
In a few scenarios (like certain EPC type models), I have seen that the users who have opened the model already in use also are able to capture changes to the object properties. But, they are unable to save the changes.
    Regards,
    K.C.

  • Can Multiple users work on the same work Repository ?

I have master repository and work repository on one machine, can multiple developers connect andwork on the same work repository? how?

    oh Yes!
    it is v simple.
    follow the steps:-
once master and work repository has been created on a system.U just need to know all the information supplied wen creating a login to designer.
like user name and password of database, url, driver as well as master's repository uname and password.
if u have the following information with you, then u can create a new login with designer provided all the above information and u will have full access to designer
in work repository u want to connect

  • Multiple users working in one Photoshop file?

We have been doing a lot of photoshop work recently in the office and have quickly run into a problem.  Due to some poor communication on my part, two of us ended up working within the same photoshop file at the same time on separate computers.  Unaware of this, both of us kept saving our work, every time overwriting the other persons work.  After we discovered this hours of work was lost.  My question is this: is there a way where multiple people can work within a single photoshop file without saving copies for each person to work within or is there a way to prevent someone from overwriting a .PSD file while it is open by another user?

    BUMP
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I would imagine every single team of designers runs into this and I'm surprised it's virtually nonexistent in forums.

  • How can multiple users work on one source file?

    Hi There,
I'm currently working on a project that I would like to hand-off to another person to finish. I've tried sending the source file located in at: Home>Movie>iMovie Projects but apparently that doesn't work as the second user is unable to work on the project.
Is this achievable? If so, how?
Thank you in advance for any help! It's greatly appreciated =)

    For iMovie 09, you:
You have to plug in an external drive, and within iMovie, drag the project file to the external drive. It will ask you if you want to "copy project" or "copy project and events".
If you want to move the project and not just make a copy, then hold down the Command key while you drag the project file to the external drive.
iMovie 08 does not have the capability of having project files on the external drive, but you can try to manually copy it to the external drive with the finder, and then move the associated events +from within iMovie+ (critical for the other machine to find the files) and when copying the project file to the other computer, it would be critical to find the iMovie project folder in the Movies folder and put it in exactly the same place on the other machine. Otherwise iMovie won't find it.
The way you want to use it, iLife09 might be worth the upgrade, especially if my suggestions don't work.

  • Can multiple users work on a Numbers spreadsheet at the same time

We want to acess and edit a spreadsheet with two users in different locations using iPads. Not at exactly the same time but without having to close out of the app like Excel.

I've seen changes I've made on my iPad show up on the same document that's been open all the time on my Mac, which suggests it might be possible. However, I've also had a small number of notifications that documents on different devices are not in sync with each other. So while it might have the potential to work, I'd be inclined to think it would be quite unreliable.

  • Multiple users working on same project

    Hi,
I'm working on a project that will involve 2 (maybe more) engineers. Generally a single folder will contain a projects specific vi's and our standard vi's and a single engineer has all control. Our engineers are in different locations so I was wondering if anyone may suggest a way or point me to some information to manage this.
We have LV 7.1,8.2 and 8.5 available
           Thanks,

Search these forums & the NI site for Source Code Control  & Configuration Management tools in Google also.
You can use MS VSS, Tortoise SVN, Clearccase, Perforce, etc., with LabVIEW.
LabVIEW 7.x does integrate well with any of the SCC tools. But LV 8.x seamlessly does so; so, you can manage your project code well from within LV itself.

  • Multiple Users - Random Questions

    Hi there
My wife both have an iPad each, and I also have an iPhone.  We recently purchased a Macbook Pro.
We have set up the Macbook Pro with 3 users - a "Family" user account as admin, and then also one in each of our names.  The intention is to use the main family account as the usual day to day account, but if we when we use the computer for our own hobbies etc, we use our own log ins to access different bookmarks etc...
We have a time machine for TC doing wireless back ups regularly - I am of the understanding this backs up data on all 3 users, is that right?
I don't quite understand how multiple users work though... from what I have read, we should all be able to access the same documents in the "shared" folder.  This doesnt seem to work as yet - is there anything you should do to make it work?  If I find a document while logged in my own username, and I want to access it under the group/family username, how do I do that then?
Any one else use set their users up like this, or is a bit... redundant?!
Also - when we have software updates available, it seems we have to update the software in all 3 users - this seems a bit odd to me, couldnt we just update the software under the "Family" log in and that pushes out to the other users?
    Thanks for your help!

    Thanks Csound1,
Yep, any app updates currently we need to do the exact same update in all 3 accounts.  What I also find strange, and might be relevant, is currently I am logged in as the "Family" user, and it  says I have 2 updates waiting for me  in the App Store. I click on them to update them, and it says "you have updates available for other accounts, sign in to <wife's username> to update applications for that account".
That's entirely normal, purchases are forever tied to the account that purchased them, but having installed an update I have not found the need to repeat it for another user account, but I will check that. It has been awhile since I used the shared machine at my house.
Does the Family account have an iCloud/Apple ID of it's own? (iCloud accounts are individual)

  • Multiple users on the same ODI installation?

    Hi all
is it possible to have multiple users working with the same odi installation? We have a virtualized IT infrastructure (citrix and wmware) where we can have multiple users on the same virtual instance. From our point of view, there is no licencing issue since we have a package covering literally everything.
One of the issues are the config files stored in the installation directory of odi (../bin). Is there a way to tell odi to store them in a different location, eg. the user home?
    Thanks a lot
    Benno

ODI looks in the current working directory for the configuration files, mostly you would have issues with the snps_login_work.xml and snps_login_security.xml files, but these may be common across all users. (just don't store the username/passwords for the ODI users in them).
The way ODI works, most of what are creating is stored in the repository anyway, it is only local GUI config stuff that may be stored locally.
Short answer, yes, you can, but might need to modify the config files a little to make it work.

  • Multiple User Request via GRC 10.1

    Hi ,
I was trying to submit multiple user for role assignment via GRC 10.1  . I was able to submit the request but when the request was forwarded to the role approves the approves not able to either reject or approve the request as in the risk violations tab there is no user id is showing.   In our workflow we need to run the risk analysis prior approving a request . Much appriciate if you anyone could advice where it goes wrong .

    Dear Kumar,
can you please provide some more information. From my point of view risk analysis for multiple user works. The analysis criteria always shows as in your screenshot. If you check in SLG1 you can see if the risk analysis has been started and if you have errors.
Can you please check SLG1 and provide us with more infos?

Is it correct way to do client Installations....... or What is the best way to have multiple Users working on ODI... ???????
    Thanks
    AK

    Hi AK,
The ODI Params file is used by the agent
"The agent startup configuration (connected repository, java parameters) is defined in the
    odiparams.bat file."
the follwing files have the client connection info -
The connection settings (stored in /bin/snp_login_work.xml and
    /bin/snp_login_security.xml files) are not recovered.
You can edit these on one client, and save and then copy to additional clients. You can save without username and password and then the new user would enter his username and password.
    Thanks,

  • Working with multiple users and computers, but shared data

Sorry if this is posted in a poor place, I'm not sure where the best place is. This is sort of a general questions.
For a long time, my wife and I have had either one computer, or two machines but one has definitely been just a terminal. We've basically set up all of our data to be one one primary machine, and if we want to view/edit that data we have to use that machine.
We just got a new MacBook Pro and I would like to be able to use two machines as equals. Sadly, this idea of multiple computers, with two users and some shared data is really giving me difficulty. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to best manage things like:
Synchronizing portions of our contact list (We share about 50% of the combined library -- we don't have to share all though).
How to manage iPhoto so that we can each have access to the photos. As an added difficulty (or maybe this is easier?) my Wife just wants to have access to the pictures for viewing and sharing on Facebook/Picassa/etc. I am the only one who wants to edit, correct and cull our library. That said, I always edit when I first put the data on the machine, and almost never again; so it would be fine to have one (or both accounts) set up as view only for the iPhoto data.
How to manage iTunes so that we can each have access to the music. As a super awesome bonus, it would be great if we could have three libraries: His, Hers and Shared. Maybe as much as 30% of our music library is similar, the rest just gets in the way.
What is the best solution people have found for calendars? (I'm thinking two separate calendars, and we each subscribe to each others iCal feed)
Mail.app and bookmark synching is not really a problem for us.
    Two extra points:
    * One machine is portable, and the other isn't. Ideally, when the laptop is out of the house, both machines should still have reasonable access to the shared data. That is: Just dumping things in the shared folder won't work because when the laptop is out of the house we will be disconnected from the source data.
    * We just got a second iPhone. This means that both of us will be taking photos/video separately and trying to synch back to the master data store.
    * Basically, I'm trying to minimize data duplication as much as possible, and just synchronize the systems to each other.
Thanks a ton in advance. If anyone has any suggestions at all, I would love to hear them. Including "This is in the wrong forum, go ask here instead..."

So you have a desktop Mac and a laptop Mac, right? Two user accounts (and a third admin account) on each computer, right?
I profess that I haven't tried this, but here is how I would approach your problem:
Sharing Music and Photos between multiple user accounts on the same computer:
See if http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=194992 and http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=510993 provide any useful information to assist you in this endeavor.
    Sharing across multiple computers:
Turn on file sharing on the Desktop (System Preferences > Sharing). Now you can mount the Desktop as an external drive on the laptop's Desktop. Copy the music and photo folders across. Will take awhile to do the first time. Then, for future use, get a copy of the donationware CarbonCopyCloner or equivalent. You can use CCC to selectively sync specific folders from one computer to the other. There may be a hassle with digital copyright issues on music and movies, though.
    Calendars:
As you have suggested yourself, publishing yours and subscribing to hers is probably the best way to do it, on the same computer. Across computers, syncing with CCC or equivalent would probably be the way to go.
