Multiple versions of help - Are areas the answer?

I have a scenario where we need to be able to have multiple products with multiple versions of that product's help file being published to RoboHelp Server. We are using RoboHelp 8 to publish to RoboHelp Server 8. I am happy with the concept of areas but do not want to have to get the developers to change the path to a new area each time there is a new product version. I want it to be seemless from the application. I am assuming that this would mean always publishing to the same area in which case I can not have multiple versions.
For example ProductA could have Version1 and Version2. By defining areas called PRODAV1 and PRODAV2 you could change the SSL properties in the project to point to the relevant area. However the server path would need to change to point to either the PRODAV1 or PRODAV2 area.
Has anyone else already done this and therefore has some advice to offer?
Read the RoboColum(n).

It would seem to me that this would be a routine thing for developers. To code new help calls with new versions of the product.
I'm wondering if perhaps you could ease some of that by including a version number in the path. Bear in mind that I don't use RoboHelp Server, so maybe I'm tilting at windmills a bit here.
I was thinking if you published currently to \\server\product\startpage.htm that maybe you could change things so that you instead published to \\server\productA\startpage.htm. Then when productB comes along the path changes slightly to \\server\productB\startpage.htm.
That way everything would be in the same server, just in different folders. From the developer standpoint, they would only need to worry with coding a call to the correct product version folder.
Just thinking out loud a bit... Rick

  • How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project?

OK...this is a probably a very basic question but I'm not sure how to word it clearly.
How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project? What I mean is that I have a bout 50 minutes of video and I want to make two DVDs using different clips from this original 50 minutes of footage. It would be a real pain to have to re-import the video AGAIN for the second DVD. I suppose I could drop anything I don't want to burn to DVD back into the clips pane but that would wipe out all my transitions wouldn't it? I want to save each project in their “raw” form so I can burn additional DVDs later otherwise I would just do them one at a time and not care about one of them being destroyed.
Wow...that was a mess. Does anyone understand what the heck I’m asking? I hope so.

How can I create multiple versions of a video within the same project?
You can't. You make separate projects using the same or different clips, segments, transitions, titles, etc. You can even duplicate the first project and then modify/make the desired changes in the duplicated project. Each project can then be burned as a different DVD or as different titles on the same DVD if there is enough room.

  • I'm trying to download an album to my phone, but it is asking me to answer my security questions. I do not recall answering these questions and do not know the answers, and the email that they are sending the answers to is not my email. Help!

I have not registered any email beginning with the letter 's' but that is the email they are sending my answers to. I just want to know how to reset these questions and change that email. Please help.

    Hi
To reset your security questions you will need to contact apple either by phone or email, many people have asked this question before and most have all ended up contacting apple
    Hope this helps

  • Why are the pages still loading so slowly? Firefox is also still using a lot of memory. I've tried everything and still have the same issues. The new versions never help either. The support section still lists the same "solutions" that do not work.

I have spent too much time on the same issues. Will the issues ever be resolved?

i'm also having major CPU problems w/ FF 29.0.1. when i restart the app it calms down again but after loading tabs it steadily climbs up to 100% after not too long. i have checked out the 2 CPU links/articles above and do all the basic troubleshooting and tips, but with all the FF tools & add-ons isn't there some sort of CPU monitor that has the ability to display which extensions/scripts are hogging the CPU? Activity Monitor on Mac just shows the total used by the app. it's impossible in my case to efficiently disable dozens of add-ons & scripts, restart, and test each one by one b/c it can take several hrs before the CPU starts to spike high again. i have no time for this.
    thanks

  • HT1349 I have multiple versions of Outlook installed, and the icloud calendar won't work, how do I correct this?

I have multiple versions of Outlook installed and icloud won't work, how do I correct this?

We mananged to resolve this exact issue on a machine recently that was running MS Office Home and Business 2010. However a copy of MS Office 2000 was also installed (for legacy reasons re Access 2000) and it was this causing the issue. We used Programs & Features to 'Change' the Office 2000 installation to 'Add/Remove' features and de-selected Outlook in here. This prompted a reboot and the issue was subsequently fixed.
Please note this did not remove the Outlook 2010 that was installed (and in use), but be careful to have a backup of your Outlook as your mileage may vary.

  • Multiple versions installed - can I uninstall the old ones?

I upgraded from CS about a year and a half ago and recently installed the 2014 version of several programs.  This means that I've got as much as 3 different versions of some of the  programs installed.  This is eating valuable storage from my SSD system drive.  Is it possible to uninstall some of the old versions without risking to uninstall the whole lot? My OS is Win 7 Ultimate.

    Translations of above...
"Yes, with the Panel, like any program. I have no problem and then the older versions no longer appear in ACC."

  • Problems Importing H.264 video -- are converters the answer?

    Hi all,
I just picked up an HTC One S smartphone which is running Ice Cream Sandwich. The video is great. I already have clips accumulated and I wanted to edit them into a short film on imovie, but I'm unable to import the files for some reason. Both iMovie and FCP won't let me open any of the H.264/MPEG-4 files the One S records in. I can, however, play the files on my editing machine, which is a 3-year-old iMac running 10.5.8 with a 2.66 Duo and 4 GB of RAM.
I'm sort of new to mac editing software, but I'm now wondering if constantly finding new converting software is the norm,  just a fact of life that I have to deal with as a new editor.
Any help would be much appreciated. Happy hunting!
    EZ

    Most h.264 should work.
Have you tried FILE/IMPORT MOVIE and then navigate to the h.264 file?
If that does not work, but the h.264 will play in QuickTIme PLayer, then you can get MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (which is free). Drag the h.264 file into MPEG Streamclip. Then FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Apple Intermediate Codec for Compressions. You can use this file in iMovie by clicking FILE/IMPORT MOVIE.

  • How can I install multiple versions of Firfox, and block the older versions from updating while allowing one version to continue updating?

I need to have several versions of FF installed for training and testing purposes, but I can't keep older versions from updating. All versions will auto-update regardless of setting auto-update to off or suggest.

hello miklewis, you can try to use portable versions of older versions of the browser & set them to not update (those are not provided by mozilla directly): http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./

And two others includes private method, which doesn't take part in inhertiance at all (it is invisible when inheritted so can't be overriden, or you can't reduce visibility to private).

  • CAn anyone help me with the answer to this???

Write a PL/SQL that will set the value of TX_TYPE to BUY or SELL The value of a Buy or a Sell is determined by the 4th digit of the TX_REF_ID. A value of 0 or 1 indicates that it is a Buy, and a value of 5 or 6 indicates a Sell.
    TX_REF_ID might have leading zeroes.
The procedure should commit the data at every 100 updates. It should also ensure that no updates are left uncommitted.
Write a query to display the total number of transactions that are neither Buy nor Sell, group by the TX_REF_ID.
Write a query to display the total Transaction amount that every sales staffs generate in the order of Sales Staff with the top sales to the Sales staff with the least sales.
Write a query to display the TX_TYPE and to summarize the total Buy and Sell transactions, as well as the SUM of all the buy and sell transactions.
Write a query to display the Customers who has Tx_amt more than 10,000, and whose TX_type is Sell.

  • Help me solve the "ANSWER" problem.

Hello, im new here, and im a new java student.
i've written a program. however, the program asks the user a question, the user needs to answer either 1 or 2. i need the program to ask the question as long as the user doesnt enter 1 or 2. so if the user enters "2365" or "addasda" it will ask the question again.
    this is the main class:

    The question is.
How do i make the program ask the question
System.out.println("Hello " + howdy.getName() + " Do you want to go first? (1)Yes, (2)No");as long as the user enters the correct answer.
so if they enter "adsdds" or "45" it will repeat the question again.

  • Can iTunes handle multiple versions of the same app?

Now that iTunes, iOS, and iDevices have been around long enough for users to have multiple devices on multiple iOS versions, is Apple doing anything to allow users to run multiple versions of the same app through iTunes?
Case in point I have an older iPhone running iOS-5 with a few apps that are now running exclusively on iOS-7, my new iPhone is on iOS-7. Once I sync my new phone with the updated versions of the app, iTunes usually dumps the old version into the trash bin. But what if I need that older version to continue running it on my iOS-5 iPhone?
Is there a workaround for this? I've considered using an old PC as my base computer for sycning the new iPhone, but I still fear that the new app updates will go to all devices running on my iTunes account through iCloud.
If Apple doesn't address this problem at some point then as the years go by certain iDevices will eventually become completely useless even if they are a fully functional piece of electronics.
(spare me the "that's their plan, corporate greed" replies).
    Thanks in advance!

Yes, the apps SHOULD be developed to work with the new stuff, No, not all apps keep their old versions in the App Store, BUT, finally Apple has ALLOWED developers to have multiple versions of an App in the store.
The problem isn't about retarding development, it's about Apple trying to force users to buy new things that they don't need because the old thing, though it works just fine & has the apps that you need, is unable to be used because the apps have been updated in iTunes. Why can't you allow me to keep Facebook 5.0.1 for my old iPhone 3G that is used as an iPod, Facebook 6.7.2 for my iPod Touch & Facebook 19.6.4 for my new iPhone 8? As of now I can download the old version on the old device, but when I sync it it always tries to 'Update' it & then says 'Can't be updated because this version is incompatible with this device' making the sync take 3x as long & meaning that if my device crashes for some reason or I choose to restore it becasue of problems I have to go find the old version, hoping that I saved it, delete the new version, drag in the old version, THEN sync & then move the old version back before updating from my other device (Having done this with the 3G & iTouch 4 for years I learned that when the sync transfers purchases from the phone it 'replaces' the file instead of moving the old 1 to the trash).
Some of these apps I have purchased, & by forcing the update to remove the old version Apple is essentially taking something I have purchased & saying I am no longer allowed to use it.
Just in the what 3 months since the new iOS came out I have noticed that now over half of the apps can't be run on my iPod Touch 4G.
    It's simple, iTunes should either:
Keep a record of the devices that have synced (I know, it already does) & keep the newest version for the lated iOS in iTunes
Let users have multiple versions of the same app in iTunes & allow us to disable update checks for certain apps
Allow users to choose to download from iTunes the different versions of the apps available from the developer
    OR
Allow users to edit the info on Apps, unlinking them from their original & updates & allowing users to keep an old version & still download a new 1

  • Handling source files for multiple versions

Ok, I've looked around on the web and multiple discussions and have yet to find an answer. We currently have two authors working on the same help project that we have handled relatively successfully under RoboSource. Our development environment has changed so that we need to be able to support multiple versions of the help at once ie- release branch vs development branch that we want documented but it is not yet slated to be in the release.
I've looked at the help for RoboSource and there is an idea of branching but not much help on how this is done or if it really maintains two sets of the files, etc. I've also seen some postings on the forum for this that have gone unanswered. Makes me suspect that perhaps RoboSource doesn't really support multiple versions of help source files. I would be happy to admit that I'm wrong here.
Another option to solve our challenge is by committing our source files to the development source system, SVN. I've noticed some threads discussing this. I'm unsure from reading these posts if RoboHelp alerts you when you are about to modify a file, such fpj or hhk, that is being used by someone else like RoboSource does. Since we still have two authors playing in the same help project it would be most efficient if it would notify us before letting us write over one another's work.
Can anyone shed some light on:
    1) does RoboSource really support multiple versions of the help source files and how it is done?
    2) does RoboHelp notice when a file is locked in SVN and notify the other author to keep hands off until it is committed again?
    3) is there somewhere better for me to research this?
Thanks you for any assistance you can provide,
    Nita

We're using RSC 3.1 with RH 8 and with RH X5, and we've found that this is actually a two-step process:
Branching is the method for copying a snapshot of a folder (to establish two branches of the same source).
Reconciling (AKA forward/back patching) is the method for synchronizing edits between branches (or not, as the case may be).
For example, a "V12.3" branch of the "main" source has been prepared for one customer's specific needs. All edits to "main" will be forward patched to "V12.3," but edits to specific areas of "V12.3" will not be back patched to "main."
Tim, my boss, prepared the tutorials below, as much for himself as for us, and I have only stripped the screenshots to protect our intellectual property. Note also that we reference two publish locations, one for internal reviewing, and one for Release Engineering to include in our nightly product builds. Your environment might only have a single publish destination. Note also that the output files are never added to RSC.
Pay special attention to your folder naming process before you start, by anticipating any potential future branching needs. Folder renaming after the fact can be problematic in RH and RSC.
    Good luck,
    Leon
    ===================================
    Branching Projects in RoboSource 3.1
Since the Help for RoboSource and Robohelp lack a proper explanation for branching and updating configuration files to support proper branching, this document has been created to assist in creating future branches.
    Creating New Local Directories
Individuals must create new local path directories on their systems. We use the following conventions:
              Ex. C:\902_imsmerge\projects (source folder)
              Ex. C:\902_imsgenerate\mergedProjects (output folder)
    Create New Server Directories
New server directories need to be created in two locations for holding the output files.
One is for the Robohelp output that gets put in the nightly .war file and checked into Perforce.
The other is in the wwwroot of our IIS server for our doc web site.
    They are defined as follows:
    \\docsql01\Documentation\RoboHelp\9.0.3\imsgenerate
    \\docsql01\Inetpub\wwwroot\help_sys\9.0.3
Create new directories with the correct branch number.
Using RoboSource View Manager to Create a Branch
You use the View Manager to create a new branch. In RoboSource 3.1, a branch is just a different type of view.
Assume the version_903 branch has already been created. To create a new branch, click the Create button and name the new branch (version_910), leaving a blank root folder.
Click on Set Root to define the root folder for the new branch.
Select the root for the branch and click OK.
Select the view (branch) and click Properties. In the Properties window, select Branch as the Type, then click Close.
In the View Manager, check the check box to enable the view.
Setting the Local Path for the New Branch
Select the new branch and right-click.
Type in or browse to the correct local path, check the Apply Recursively box, click Apply. Close the Properties window.
    Editing .xpj Files
The .xpj files in the new branch need to be edited to point to the new branch. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. IF NOT DONE ROBOHELP WILL CHECK IN CHANGES TO BOTH THE BRANCH AND THE ROOT.
One line in each project’s .xpj needs to change. See below.
This value must match the branch the project lives in. In our above new branch example this would be changes to %version_910.
In a merged project, you can change all these at once with the FAR tool.
Edit the .ssl and .sss files
These files need to be edited to redefine the generating and publishing paths. Note that this can also be accomplished with the FAR tool, or by having each writer do it through the GUI.
    ssl Files
The .ssl files contain the data for the generate path. Although there might be seven .ssl files for each project, you only need to edit the ones for your Primary Layout and one or two others that you might also use.
Make sure the generate path is defined correctly.
    sss Files
The .sss file defines the publishing paths. This edit can also be done through the GUI if necessary.

Forward and Back Patching in RoboSource
This document describes the procedure of forward or back patching files (.htm or .gif) between branches in the RoboSource system. The RoboSource product uses a feature called Reconcile Changes to accomplish patching between branches.
    Example Scenario
Throughout this document we will use a real life example from the refwindows project.
We have edited the version 9.0.3 security_master_folder.htm file in RoboHelp.
Now, we need to backpatch it to version 9.0.2.
Selecting Folders or Files to Reconcile
    You can select either:
    A single file for reconciliation
    The source folder, or
    The destination folder
If you have just one file to reconcile, you will probably want to use the single file method. If you have several files to reconcile, you will need to use the folder method.
    Working from the Source Folder
Select the source folder (folder that contains the updated file) in source control. In our case, %version_903/refwindows.
Select Reconcile Changes … from the Action menu. This opens the Reconcile window.
Select the appropriate option in the Reconcile window.
In our example we select the first option to reconcile from %version_903 because that is where our updated file is. Make sure the correct project is selected in the drop-down list. ($/version_902/refwindows).
    Other Options
Reconcile changes made in another branch *into %verison_903/refwindows. This is the option you would use if you have an updated file in another branch that you want to put in 903.
Reconcile changes made locally (in c:\903_imsmerge\projects\refwindows) and %version_903/refwindows. We would most likely never use this option.
Reconcile changes made in another database *into* this database. Do not use.
None of the above, let me select what to Reconcile. This one sounds like it would be a good option, but it gets even more complicated.
Wildcard Filter. Use this to display only certain file types. For example, *.htm;*.gif;*.jpg would filter on those file types.
Click OK to open the Difference Reconciliator window.
Notice that this window shows all files in the project that have differences such as the .ssl and .xpj files.
IMPORTANT: NEVER reconcile these files, they are supposed to be different.
You can prevent these files from displaying by using the Wildcard Filter discussed above.
Select the appropriate file (security_master_folder.htm). This window will allow you to replace the file in the version_902 project unfortunately, it will also allow you to replace the updated file with the older one. Be Careful Here.
You can also View Differences from this window by clicking the View Differences link.
Click the Replace button in the $/version_902 pane.
You will get a confirmation dialog. Before clicking OK, take the time to read the question. This is your opportunity to catch potential mistakes!
You will then get the Reconcile Checkout dialog.
Be sure Perform the action directly on the Server is checked, click OK.
You see that the Difference Reconciliator window now indicates No changes to merge from %version_903/rewindows/security_master_folder.htm in the $version_902 pane.
    Close the window.
    Check the Destination Folder
In the source control window go to the destination branch and check the project. You can see in this shot that the security_master_folder.htm file now shows the date it was replaced, and that the server version is now different from your local version.
    Working from the Destination Folder
If you had chosen the destination folder and select Reconcile Changes, the same window would have opened but with different options.
Here you would have selected the second option to reconcile into $/version_902.
You can do it either way, just pay careful attention to the options. The rest of the process is the same.

  • Same plugin multiple versions applied

    Hi,
I have same plugin multiple version as applied. Its really strange, how this happened.
Navigation path - Setup - Extensibility - Self Update - Plug-in Updates ... Here it shows different versions of the same plugin as applied.
So, I went to Setup - Extensibility - Plugins , so that I can deploy them from servers - But that plugin is not listed.
This is blocking my use of newer version of plugin (testing)
Please let me know, how to clear this.
    Thanks,
    Muthu

    Hi Loc Nhan,
I got the below output after running the command.
    #> ./emcli list_plugins_on_server
    OMS name is EMGC_OMS1

    Exalogic Elastic Cloud Infrastructure 12.1.0.1.0
Oracle Enterprise Taxation and Policy Management 12.1.0.3.1
I have plugins folder too with the following contents (ls-l) /orasw/Oracle/Middleware1035/plugins
    drwxr-xr-x 8 oracle oinstall 4096 Mar 22 05:27 oracle.em.soee.oms.plugin_12.1.0.1.0

    drwxr----- 8 oracle oinstall 4096 Jun 4 04:06 oracle.tugbu.oet.oms.plugin_12.1.0.3.1
Now, multiple versions of same plugins are installed (and thats fine), The concern is I don't see any plugin listed under - > Setup - Extensibility - Plugins
If its listed, I can select and un-deploy ...
I just want to un-deploy and remove/delete, but not able to do so.
    Please help.
    Regards,

  • Adobe RUM with multiple versions of Creative Suite

I am having an issue when running RUM on computers with multiple versions of CS installed. The computers are OS 10.7.4 and have CS5, 5.5 and 6 installed. When I run the RemoteUpdateManager command, a get a return of 'There doesn't seem to be anything to update', even though there are a slew of CS6 updates that need to be installed. On computers with just CS6 installed, RUM behaves as it should.

    Hi,
RUM works fine for CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 products. Can you please provide aamu.log, this will help us in nailing down the cause of this issue.
    Logs can be located at
    Win:          C:\Users\labuser\AppData\Local\Adobe\AAMUpdater\1.0\aamu.log
    Mac:          /private/var/root/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdater/1.0/aamu.log
In Mac, in order to access the root folder, give read permissions to '/private/var/root' folder and its enclosed items.
Please email me aamu.log and all the other content (Data folder, aamui.log, AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat, CSUTracker.sig, CSUTracker.xml) present on above mentioned location.
You can email me at :[email protected]
