Multiple VPN Clients on same PC

Hi
Doing a s/w inventory on systems in our network and the result is showing multiple versions of VPN Cisco Client installed.  Is this possible or are the older versions remnants left behind after an upgrade... Thanks

I have acquired my daughter's Nano (she has the iTouch now), and we will use the same PC. How should I get the songs off of the Nano, and not disrupt her iTouch songs, and then download my own songs from iTunes? I would assume separate iTune accounts, but I need your input.

  • Problems w/ VPN Server & Cisco VPN Client on same machine

I really wish that I read about how the developer of the program iVPN no longer supports his work BEFORE I paid for it. It's a great, simple, GUI frontend to the existing Leopard VPN server built in to regular (non-server) OSX...
Anyway, on my Mac that stays @ home:
    (1) - I have the iVPN server set up & running to allow me to connect (from my iphone or another computer on the road) to my Mac @ home using L2TP.
    (2) - When I'm @ home and need to connect to my company's network, I need to use the Cisco VPN Client (which uses IPSec etc).
So, I found out that when I need to use my Mac to connect to work, I first have to open up the iVPN server to click "Stop Server" (which has me enter my password twice sometimes). Now I close iVPN until I'm done, then open up Activity Monitor for the purpose of finding the still-running process "racoon". I realized this not because it's published info, but because if I don't do this, and try to connect to work using the Cisco VPN Client, it simply will not connect. So, I quit the process "racoon" (which also has me enter my password because it's running as root yada yada). NOW, I can load Cisco VPN Client and successfully connect to my company's network. When I'm finished here, I disconnect the C.V.C., then reopen iVPN Server and restart my server (enter password again).
Is there any way I can make the process "racoon" quit automatically when I turn off the iVPN server? I'd email the developer but I guess that's a lost cause now. It's a shame because he did a fabulous job making iVPN & gave the less computer-networking-literate-user the ability to create their own VPN server without using Terminal.
I thought about the possibility of using iVPN to create a PPTP connection instead of L2TP - thinking that would allow me to keep my iVPN PPTP server running at all times, even when I wanted to use the CVC to connect OUT to work - but:
    (1) - I would like the increased security of L2TP.
    (2) - When I tried running a PPTP server, and connecting to it from iPhone or other computer, I was NOT able to access the other devices on my network, or the internet. I couldn't even open up a webpage to check whatismyip.com (while sending all traffic over VPN). And yes, the IP Address Range that I have iVPN handing out is within my normal home network's range.
My end goal for all of this when using my Mac is to be able to leave my iVPN server running at all times, while still being able to run the Cisco VPN CLIENT to connect to my company's network.
Or, at least not having to open up Activity Monitor to quit the process racoon... let alone having to enter my password 3 times after opening up iVPN, again to stop the server, again to quit the process racoon. Then a forth when I'm all done and need to start the iVPN server again.
Am I going about this the wrong way? Is there an easier way to accomplish these secure connections? There is a slight possibility of me upgrading and running a dedicated Mac Mini server of some sort perhaps with the real OSX Server. But not right now. I think I'm over complicating this. I mean, my needs are pretty simple:
    (1) - Need to connect TO my Mac from IPhone / someone else's Mac or PC for: VNC over SSH, SSH/SFTP file level access, in the future shared network volumes (time capsule). I'd use Back To My Mac for all of this but I don't always connect FROM a Mac.
    (2) - Need to connect FROM my Mac to work VPN for: VNC to my work PC to access our company's Windows-only program (dual booting into boot camp or using a virtual machine is out of the question), using Mocha for AS400 access, thinking about using file sharing on work PC but not needed so far.
So it's really just VNC and sometimes SFTP. The "S" being important to me. That's why I don't like the idea of doing away with my iVPN server and just forwarding the outside ports. I use the Vine VNC Server which when checked, only allows access over SSH. The only other remote-logins are used from my iphone using an app called BriefCase (SSH to browse files on remote machine), or using an SFTP client on a computer.
Thank you for reading all of this, and in advance for any insight you can offer.

If the two servers need the same ports, then hosting two different VPN packages on the same box usually won't work.
A firewall-based VPN service can be an option; that external box can deal with NAT and routing and other such and can field incoming or LAN-to-LAN VPNs, and your internal Mac boxes located "behind" that box can be free to initiate outbound VPNs.

  • Multiple vpn clients fail

When i try to run the vpn client on more than one computer to connect to a remote network, both connections fail. Everything works fine when i have a single computer connected with the vpn client, but as soon as i try to connect the other, both of them fail. any ideas?

Enable isakmp nat-traversal on the ASA on the client. It will open UDP port 4500 on the NAT device. so multiple clients can communicate.

  • Connecting multiple ECC Clients on same ECC system to BW system(s)

    Hello.
We are considering connecting our Dev BW system to multiple clients on the same Dev ECC system. This connection would be for a limited time.  We are wondering what the effect would be on the ECC system after we 'disconnect' our BW system from one of the clients.
Another thing we are considering is to create a seperate BW sandbox system and to connect that to a client on our Dev ECC system.  The Dev ECC system will, at the same time, have a connection to a client on our existing Dev BW system. For example, having DEVBWcnlt100 -> DEVECCclnt100 and SNDBWclnt200 -> DEVECCclnt200 where DEVECC is a system and DEVBW and SNDBW are systems of their own. Our Sandbox BW system will have a limited life and at some point be taken down and no longer be a valid source system for the DEVECC system. We are concerned about what the impact would be to the DEV ECC system's client independent data once the Sandbox BW system is disconnected and taken down permenantly. Is 'residual' client independent data something we need to be concerned about? Is having two different BW systems connected to ECC clients on the same ECC systems a 'bad practice'? Any and all comments are welcome as we have not yet acted on our ideas yet.
Thanks very much for whatever comments you might provide,
    Geoff.

No impact on the BW system. The only thing that you will have to take care of is that any process chains which fetch data from this DEV ECC system should not be put on periodic cycle because after disconnecting the ECC system, these would start failing.
Another thing we are considering is to create a seperate BW sandbox system and to connect that to a client on our Dev ECC system. Again no impact on ECC system. As for the client connected earlier to sandbox system, just clear all the queues in RSA7, LBWQ

No its not at all a bad practice

  • Multiple Oracle Clients on Same Machine for different apps

I was not able to find info that answered this so sorry if I missed something that explains this.
At our site we have many applications some I know lots about some I'm not even aware of because we have mulitple sites. The application I develop uses an Oracle 8.1.7 database. In the next year we are going to be upgrading to a 9i database. The app I program for is written in VB and uses 0040 with the 7.3.4 version. We want to upgrade our client to the latest version to use all the features of the 9i database when that times comes. Can we have our 9i client on the same machine that may have other apps that require the 8i client or even the 7.3.4 client without breaking them? The other apps may or may not use 0040. Some of these apps are Oracle Forms applications and some can be anything under the sun.
I still need to do testing to see what breaks but thought someone may already have the answers some of my ?'s Any tips or info you can provide would be great.
    Thanks

    Two possible answers
    1) Oracle added multi-home support to the Oracle client in 8i (may have been 8.0, I'm really not sure). This allows you to set up multiple 8i and above clients on a single machine in different Oracle Homes and should solve the majority of your problems. Having a 7.3.4 client installed wouldn't be supported, but 8i clients should have no difficulty connecting to a 7.3.4 database.
When Oracle added multi-home support, not all the Oracle client products were made multi-home compatible. The ODBC driver, for example, wasn't multi-home compatible until significantly later patchsets. I belive that OO4O has been multi-home compatible since the client has been, though.
    2) From a technical standpoint, you should be able to have a 7.3.4 client alongside 8i and above clients. In my experience, this works, but isn't something that Oracle supports.

  • RV042 VPN Client Access not able to connect two users at same time

I have a RV042 and have set it up for VPN Client access using the QuickVPN client to connect my remote users. I discovered today that I cannot have two users connect in at the same time. Both users are in the same remote office. They can connect individually with no problem but if one is connected and the other tries connect also the second user gets a message the gateway is not responding. They are both running WinXPPRo SP3. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Were your QuickVPN clients behind a firewall router of some sort? For multiple QuickVPN clients to be able to connect to the remote RV042 at the same time, the local firewall router must have VPN Passthrough correctly implemented. You could try using a RV042 as the firewall router for your QuickVPN clients and you should be able to maintain 2 tunnels at the same time to the remote RV042.

  • Multiple (but not all) VPN clients failing in Windows 8 and 8.1

Big question for VPN gurus, with a long story.  I got a new machine with Windows 8 in late December 2012.  I work remotely
for a bunch of different customers, so 100% of my work is done via VPNs.  My customers use a wide variety of VPN types.  These were all working fine up through early December 2013.  Suddenly a bunch of them stopped working.  I tried a ton
    of stuff:
    - Uninstalling all VPN clients and reinstalling them one at a time
    - Reinstalling / updating network drivers
    - Turning off and uninstalling antivirus and firewall software
    - Verified problem was on my machine, not local network, both by testing other machines on local network and by testing this machine on other networks
The following VPN clients would not work:
    Cisco VPN Client
    FortiSSL
    Microsoft built-in
The following VPN clients had no problems:
    Cisco AnyConnect
    ShrewSoft
    Juniper web-based SSL VPN
    Check Point web-based SSL VPN
    As you can imagine, having to use a second (Windows XP) machine to connect to half my customers was a source of some serious headaches.  After 3 weeks of beating my head against this, I finally upgraded my OS to Windows 8.1.  The hail mary worked;
    my VPN problems went away!
Two weeks later, the exact same symptoms resurfaced.  I've gone back through a bunch of the steps that didn't help the first time around, with the same results.  I expect a system refresh would probably do the trick, probably temporarily like the
OS upgrade, but I can't afford to spend a week reinstalling dozens of critical applications only to have the problem resurface after another couple of weeks.
At this point, the closest thing I have to a clue is that in both cases the problems started soon after installing an update to the Cisco AnyConnect client.  After uninstalling the client, the problems do not go away.
Exactly what do I mean when I say the VPN clients don't work?  That varies from one client to the next:
    Microsoft built-in: Error 720
FortiSSL: variable - sometimes won't finish connecting, sometimes connects for about a second
Cisco: variable - sometimes won't finish connecting, sometimes "connects" but I can't access anything
Has anybody seen this sort of behavior before?  Any suggestions for fixes I may not have tried yet?  Thanks in advance.

    Hi.
I have been similar issues with VPN clients. In my case cause of this problems seems to be "Deterministic Network Enhancer". So turning this component on and off usually helps.
Actually I writed one script to fix this probleem for my clients.
    <#
    .Synopsis
This script is ment for a fixing of network problems which may occur when you use Windows 8/8.1 with Client Hyper-V
    .DESCRIPTION
This script will disable and then enable again Deterministic Network Enhancer (dni_dne) component from network connections.
Parameter RegisterScheduledTask will register this script as a scheduled task which will be triggered at every  time when computer starts.
    .EXAMPLE
       Fix-Network.ps1
    .EXAMPLE
       Fix-Network.ps1 -RegisterScheduledTask

       $currentUser.IsInRole( [Security.Principal.WindowsBuiltInRole]::Administrator)
    function Get-RunAsAdministrator
        if(!(Test-IsRunAsAdministrator))
            [string[]]$argumentList = @('-NoProfile' , '-File', $MyInvocation.ScriptName)
            if($RegisterScheduledTask)
                $argumentList += '-RegisterScheduledTask'
            Start-Process PowerShell.exe -Verb Runas -WorkingDirectory $PWD.Path -ArgumentList $argumentList
            break

  • Support IPSec VPN Client in ASA Multiple Context Mode

I've looked at under "Cisco ASA Series CLI Configuration Guide, 9.0" on "Configuring Multiple Context Mode", it says
"IPsec sessions—5 sessions. (The maximum per context.) ".  Does it mean in ASA Multiple Contest Mode support IPSec VPN Client? I just want to confirm it because I can't seem find any doc that clearly spell it out.  I'll appreciate anyone who can clarify it.
    Thank Jason.

    Hi,
Recently our company has bought two Cisco ASA 5515-X firewalls for at our datacenter. I am new on configuring a Cisco ASA but sofar things are looking good. I have configured them both with HA (active/active) in multiple context mode. Currently they host two security contexts.
I want to configure VPN Client functionallity for Remote Access. As far as I know they come with two user licenses. But there is no VPN Client wizard available and I can't find a way to enable it.

    Hi,
No form of VPN Client is supported when you are using an ASA in Multiple Context mode.
The only type of VPN supported in the newer 9.x softwares is L2L VPN / Site to Site VPN
This might answer the VPN Licensing related question

  • Connecting to multiple clusters from the same client

We have a scenario where our cache client (extend client) should be able to connect to multiple clusters. All the clusters use the exact same configuration (same caches, same services etc) but running in different geographical locations. I know that the <remote-addresses> can be used to add multiple addresses but I'm assuming this is provided solely for fault tolerance. So, does the client actually support connecting to multiple clusters at the same time?
    Thanks
    Sijo Mathew

    Hi Sijo,
Normally to connect a client to multiple clusters you would just define multiple <proxy-scheme> settings in your client configuration file, each one having a different name and pointing to a different cluster. You then map caches to the proxy-scheme for the cluster those caches live on.
What may confuse things in your case is that you say the different clusters are identical and contain the same caches and services so you may have problems mapping caches on the client to different clusters.
What are you trying to achieve by doing this if the clusters are all identical?

  • SonicWall Global VPN Client and Split tunneling

    Hello All,
I searched Google and the forums here and can't find someone with the same problem.
Lets start at the beginning-Just started this job a couple months ago and people brought to my attention immediately an issue while they were on the VPN they could not get to the internet.  I know about the different security risks but we have multiple field reps that need internet access while using our CRM program.  So I setup Split Tunneling on the Sonicwall. Tested and works fine on my home PC using a WRT54GS Ver 2.1 and the SonicWall Global VPN Client.
So I was sure everything was fine until I just sent out 2 laptops to 2 different sales reps and they are both having the same issue.  They can get into the internal network but can't access the internet.  They are both on WRT54G (different Vers.).  I tested the VPN client on both laptops with tethering on my cell phone and the split tunneling works. I have tried updating firmware thinking that was the issue.  I also tried to put their home network on a different subnet.  All with no joy.  I was wondering if anyone ever ran into something like this or have any clues what to try next.
-Thank You in advance for your time.

Of course, you do as you are told. But I hope you keep written record of what you have been told and have it signed of whoever told you to set it up. It's essential that you stay on the safe side in these matters.
I have read of too many cases where the system/security admin did not do so and in the end was held responsible for security incidents simply because he was told to do something to jeopardize security of the network. Remember, that usually the person who tells you do to so has no idea about the full security implication of a decision.
Thus, I highly recommend to require your road staff to connect with no split tunneling. Refuse to do otherwise unless you have it in writing and you won't be held reliable in any way if something happens because of it.
Just think what happens if the whole customer database gets stolen because of one of the remote sales reps... There is a reason why you apply this web site blocking on your firewalls and there is absolutely no reason that would justify why your remote sale reps don't go through the very same firewall while accessing company-sensitive data in your CRM.
So put that straight with whoever told you to do otherwise and if you they still want to continue anyway get it in writing. Once you ask for the statement in writing many decision-makers come to their senses and let you do your job at the best you can and for what you were hired... And if not, well, at least you got rid of the responsibility in that aspect.

  • AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client v3.1.04066 "The VPN client driver encountered an error"

Hello, I am a software engineer and have been trying to connect to my client's VPN using the AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (version 3.1.04066) and keep receiving the error "The VPN client driver encountered an error. Please try again or restart your system."
I am on a Windows 7 system with an intel i7-2670QM cpu. My computer model is an HP Pavilion dv7.
I have tried uninstalling the software, re-installing it. I've tried restarting my system multiple times through the process. I've checked the registry and made sure the name was setup correctly. I have checked and made sure that the correct services are not enabled. I have also tried what was suggested on the support page and checked the integrity of catroot2 as well as renaming it and regenerating the folder. None of these have been able to fix my problem.
For information, this is the message history when I try to connect:

I have tried every kind of search I can think of to find any other solutions to try, and I cannot find anything else. Does anyone have any other recommendations of what to try in order to be able to connect to my client?

Yes, I am sorry to say that several people have seen the same issue.  It seems like the issue is specific to Yosemite and Anyconnect. My very technical staff and I have tried many things.  The default route is missing and the file /var/run/resolv.conf is also missing which means that both the route and DNS server are messed up.  We re-added the default route manually which allows us to ping the servers and even access them via the IP address
Run the command below before starting the VPN to get the default route
    netstat -nr | grep default
Then run the following to re-add the default route.
    route add default xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
BUT there is no way that I can find to fix the DNS entry.
We tried re-adding the DNS entries in the /var/run/resolv.conf  and then restarting the DNS service
    $ sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
    Password:
    $ sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
    BUT THIS DOES NOT WORK!
If anyone can help us solve the DNS issue, at least we have a work-around for our technical people until Cisco and/or Apple can resolve it.
Here is a link to the same issue at Cisco.

  • Issue with Mac OS 10.8.3 and Anyconnect VPN Client 3.1.02026

    Hi all,
I am running Anyconnect VPN Client 3.1.02026 on Mac OS X 10.8.3.  I am unable to connect to my corporate network as the connection fails with following error :
The VPN client was unable to successfully verify the IP forwarding table modifications.  A VPN connection will not be established.
Can anyone suggest remedies. I am completely stuck. I had an older AnyConnect client and it was working until  a few days back when it stopped working. I then upgraded to 3.1.02026.
As suggested in some of the pots on the web, i  have disabled the following  AirPort, Bonjour, Bluetooth, Adium, restarted after these changes and yet i am seeing this.
My company has corporate license for Cisco AnyConnect VPN.
    TIA
    kumar

Or is there a problem with both OS's writing stuff to the
~/Home/Library folder that may be incompatible?
Yes, big time.  Mail, for sure, has a different file/folder structure, and would not be happy.
Plus, a number of apps (Apple and 3rd-party) are "Sandboxed."  That's a security feature, to prevent malware or bad coding from affecting things it shouldn't.  Some of their files, including the preferences files, aren't even stored in the same places!
Or to other places I'm not aware of?
Probably.  If you have two versions of the same app, they may or may not expect the same data setup.
To have one User folder for both OS's would save a lot of drive space
Not if you use some or all of woodmeister50's suggestions.
But I'm also not sure how I'd use Time machine with such a set up.
Just as you do now.  By default, Time Machine backs-up everything (except things like system work files, most caches and logs, trash) for all users and all internal drives & partitions.  By default, it excludes external drives.
You can change those defaults, of course, via TM Preferences > Options.
See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #32 for details and considerations of multiple drives.
    Presently I backup with . . . clones to other HD's
Good.   Yes, clones are different.  You need multiple "tasks" to back up multiple drives/partitions.  But once set up, that shouldn't be a big deal.
