Multiple Vulnerabilities in Research in Motion Blackberry - Desktop

 ALCON,
I am receiving the following Retina Vulnerability, but I don't have any blackberry software installed on any of these systems. These systems have never touched a blackberry, they are all Windows Server 2003 SP2. Anyone else have this false positive appear and know how to resolve it. My report looks like garbage with this nonsense.
any help is greatly appreciated.
Description: Multiple vulnerabilities exists within the Blackberry Enterprise Server Router, Blackberry Handheld Browser, and the Blackberry Enterprise Server Attachment Service. These vulnerabilities may allow for an attacker to send specially crafted attachments or files in order to cause a denial of service, cause a heap overflow, or to execute arbitrary code. Please check to make sure your Blackberry Handheld is not vulnerable
How To Fix: Upgrade to the latest version of the Blackberry product and apply the vendor supplied hotfix. In the case that the issue has no software fix yet, apply the vendor provided workaround.

Who's sending you these emails and why? It sounds like a Windows apologist with an inferiority complex trying to make OS X look bad. The facts are that there are no viruses or malware in the wild at this time actively compromising OS X users. Discovered flaws and vulnerabilities do not immediately translate into active malware on OS X like they do on Windows. Apple releases security updates on a regular basis. The recent OS X 10.4.9 update, for example, provided fixes for some 45 known security issues. OS X is by no means a perfect piece of code but you are infinitely safer on the internet using OS X than you are using any version of Windows, including the new Vista.
As to who makes these notices there are security researchers and companies whose job it is to find and report security flaws in any operating system or application they choose to inspect. They provide a valuable service to companies like Apple and Microsoft in helping them close holes in their software.
CVE stands for "Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures" and is a standardized way of cataloging security issues. CVE is supported by CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) which in turn is supported by the Federal Government and the Department of Homeland Security.
Here is the web site link...

The best response when you get one of these emails is to do nothing. Instead, keep your system current and up-to-date with all security updates and OS X updates released by Apple. And above all, don't worry.

  • Blackberry Desktop Software V6.0.2

I just recently joined the RIM Blackberry family. I've installed the latest version of the Blackberry Desktop software, but am having trouble loading the program.
I get a Windows error report...
"BlackBerry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Does anyone know what issues the program could be having? I've downloaded the program multiple times, re-installed, repaired, and tried to contact Blackberry. I'm incredibly frustrated. Anyone else having this issue, and possibly knows how to fix this?

OK I FIND SOLUTION FROM FIRST TIME. I was in January already registered under nick name HONGKONG
and here is solution what work first time. But now after DMupdate again DONT WORK.
I had all the same problems as everyone else on this thread, but it was just as simple as renaming Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManager.dll to Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManager.dll.old and then back to Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManager.dll it worked.
    The file is located in:
    C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Modules\
I can only say RIM, I never buy again BB units. Bye [keep it courteous please].

  • BlackBerry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close. (I am sick of seeing this!)

Can anyone help me? Does not matter if I use the version on disk or download the one from the site, I get the above message every time. I tried using 5.0 and it worked, but was daft enough to update when asked. Is there anything I can do? I am using XP on my Samsung V25 laptop.
    Regards Paul

So here's how I fixed my issue.
    Delete the Rim.Desktop.exception.log located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data
Run the application, it will crash with the error message above and create a new Rim.Desktop.exception.log file. Open it in notepad and look through it.
In my case the exception was this.
Exception message is: The current build operation (build key Build Key[Rim.Desktop.Shell.MyBlackBerryApplication, null]) failed: Could not load file or assembly 'Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManager, Version=6.0.2.44, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies
I followed the suggestion of renaming the file C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Modules\Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManger.dll to Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManger.dll.old
I then tried to lauch the application and it crashed, you must do this! renaming it back without this step will not work. Then I went back and renamed the dll file back to it's original name Rim.Desktop.Services.PolicyManger.dll and sure enough the application worked.
Must be some messed up reference somewhere, it's stupid and RIM should figure this out before releasing updates. Obviously your issue may be different but the exception.log file should point you in the right direction.

  • Blackberry Desktop Software 6.1.0.35 fails to launch with "BlackBerry Desktop Software has stopped working"

    OS: Windows 7 32bit
    BB Desktop Manager version: 6.1.0.35
I bought a new notebook a few days ago and tried to install the above software (latest version) from Blackberry's website. The whole thing installed fine but when I tried to launch it after installation, I get the message:
"BlackBerry Desktop Software has stopped working"
I tried the clean uninstall with removal of folders and registry entries, rebooting it, running regsvr32 atl.dll and then reinstalling it and still I have the same problem.
I had experienced a similar issue with my previous computer which I fixed by changing the permission and ownership of two registry keys "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion". But this time round, I found that:
    1) There is no "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion"
    2) I can't find a  "Desktop.log" in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop" but I did find it in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop\Logs"
    And this what it says:

I have scanned through it and I can't find anything that says "fatal".
Any suggestions? I am at my wits end after combing through this forum and other BB forums for the past few long days and nights.
    HELP!

    Well folks. I've had enough.
The 9780 is a great phone, it's easy to use, practical and dependable. However, the Desktop Manager software has been giving me too many sleepless nights. On two occassions I must add: once at the end of last year when I bought it and only managed to solve it by myself after 4 weeks of trawling through online forums, blogs and other BB help sites and the recent one was last week when I tried to install it on my new Windows 7 notebook.
I know this is not entirely the fault of RIM, Microsoft also has a part to play. But considering the state of technology these days, it shouldn't have to be so difficult. I want a phone and software that makes my life easier and not have to be a slave to it by trying days and nights to solve its problems.
Hence, I have officially decom my phone and gotten an iPhone 4 instead. The switch ain't that difficult for me as I have always been platform neutral. As long it fits my needs, does it job well and doesn't give me too much headache, I'm cool with it.
    Ciao folks!

  • Windows 7 and Blackberry Desktop 6

I have written about this problem in the past, but found no help. Under Windows 7, Blackberry Desktop 5 works just fine, but Desktop 6 crashes as it attempts to sync with Yahoo. (Yes, I do remove 5 before installing 6.) The Event log shows the following:
Faulting application name: Rim.Desktop.exe, version: 6.0.0.43, time stamp: 0x4c758111
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16559, time stamp: 0x4ba9b21e

    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll
    Report Id: 29aae530-e3ce-11df-8f4b-001e8cb471fe
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?

Have now done a complete uninstall of Blackberry Desktop 6 following the instructions in KB02206 and KB04840. I have rebooted and reinstalled the Desktop 6 software on my Winows 7 32 bit OS. And once again .... after configuring the software ... Desktop 6 crashes on trying to sync records with Yahoo. The error log reads:
Faulting application name: Rim.Desktop.exe, version: 6.0.0.43, time stamp: 0x4c758111
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16559, time stamp: 0x4ba9b21e

This software does not work on Windows 7 and there is no software support at all. This is pretty pathetic performance for an international company.
So it's back to Desktop 5 for me (which does work) and putting up with the nagging messages that RIM has a software update for me. Whoopee!

  • Blackberry Desktop manager won't start

I cannot get desktop manager to run on a Vista Business machine.  DM appears in task manager but seems to hang and never appear.  There are no error messages or events in any logs that I can find.
I have completely removed DM and clean up any remaining reg entries or files and re installed it but still no joy.
The user running it is a local admin.
    Any ideas?

  • BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.1.0 B34 crashes !

    Hello,
Since the update of BlackBerry desktop software, when I try to start the program with or without the phone attached to the computer it crashes immediately.  I have uninstalled the software and re-downloaded it and installed it again all several times and it continues to crash as soon as I start it.
    I'm running Windows 7.

    Thank you for your help.

When i posted my first message, i was hoping someone (from the RIM technical support for example) would answer my problem...
Three weeks later, I wonder if RIM technicians do read the messages in this forum...
I just ask to be treated as a loyal customer. I only wish that the product I purchased works. So, I repeat my problem:
Since the update of BlackBerry desktop software, when I try to start the program with or without the phone attached to the computer it crashes immediately.  I have uninstalled the software and re-downloaded it and installed it again all several times and it continues to crash as soon as I start it.
    I'm running Windows 7.
Here is the text from the log file.

  • Can't Install Blackberry Desktop Manager - error 1303

Trying to install desktop manager and I get error message  "Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to acces this directory: C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\Blackberry\1003. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator."
I am running Windows 7, Home Premium, SP1.
Any ideas please?  I am the administrator.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I can find no formal reference to that error...perhaps you may have better luck searching:
    http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/microsite.do
    Otherwise, I suggest this thread:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
You may need to use the actual administrator account or an account with admin rights, and/or use the Run As Administrator option.
    Good luck!

    Hello Tushar
If desktop software is not offering your desired language ( Hindi ) then you can try to Install an OS pack which offer this language . If you want to do that then follow those steps :
1.Download an OS pack having All Language  from here  Software from Redington (India) Limited
( Make sure you are downloading for the same device model )
    2. Now Double Click  on the file that you Downloaded to Install it on your PC
    3. Download and install the latest BlackBerry desktop software from here BlackBerry desktop software
Then using desktop software perform your full backup of your device.
4.Search your C: drive for Vendor.xml and delete them, there may be one or two vendor.xml ( On your Pc change your folders option to show hidden files/folders ) :
        C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
        C:\Users\Windows UserName\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
From here you have two options :
Once completed Open BlackBerry Desktop Software ( 7.1 ) > Select Applications. > In the Language and Input Support section, select the language to be added to the BlackBerry smartphone (a + will appear next to the language to install) > Click Apply.
    Or
Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader. (For 64-bit Vista or Windows 7, the path will be C: > Program Files x86 > Common Files > Research In Motion > AppLoader) double click Loader.exe.  It will Install the OS on your BlackBerry .
Click " Like " if you want to Thank someone.

  • Blackberry desktop software shows erro while updating

can anyone help me .. I really need help im struggling since 4 months my blackberry desktop software is not updating my device when I want to do software update it shows error that " an error occurred while downloading blackberry desktop software. please try again"

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
For some reason, the "automatic" method is failing...consequently, you need to take control and override the automatic method. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

If I choose to Update the software it will say that no software is available... i even tried downloading the os6 for my fone and used the loader but it gets stuck at the last process with the same message "There is no  BlackBerry® Software available.
i have read around but no solutions. please help as am desperate

    Hello,
Please check carefully these instructions, most importantly the part about deleting VENDOR.XML file(s).
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    2) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    Now, use this process:
KB10144 How to force the detection of the BlackBerry smartphone using Application Loader
    freexrythem wrote:
"There is no  BlackBerry® Software available."
Most often, that message is the result of one (or more) of the following:
There is no BB OS package installed to the PC, and there is nothing available from the carrier (as represented by the VendorID hardcoded into the device)
There is a BB OS package installed to the PC, but it is from a different (per VendorID) carrier, and the VENDOR.XML file(s) have not been deleted (which causes the installed package to be ignored)
There is more than one BB OS package installed to the PC...which can confuse the Loader tool
    Good luck!

  • Add Japanese language to Blackberry desktop application software list

I have installed Blackberry Desktop Software 6.0 for blackberry curve 9300.
I wish to install japanese language pack to view japanese character on my cellphone.
Language is not available in the application list.
How can I import this new language?

    Hi cchr
Have you Downloaded the OS having East Asian  or all language ,First download it from the Carrier site. Then after installing it in your PC or Laptop you have to delete one or two Vendor .xml files.
Search your C: drive for Vendor.xml and delete them, there may be one or two vendor.xml ( On your Pc change your folders option to show hidden files/folders ) :
         C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

  • Blackberry Desktop Manager won't read Blackberry Torch

I've been having trouble with my Blackberry Torch as my computer will not recognize it in Blackberry Desktop Software. It's actually very wierd because I will plug my phone in to a USB port and the port will charge the phone, but nothing else happens. The reason why this is weird because I've had it work for a long time and then one day, it just didn't work any more. I've done every type of trouble-shooting listed in the Help menu including rebooting the computer/phone, replacing the cable, re-downloading the software, etc etc. I've also been able to connect the phone using Bluetooth, but unfortunately I was limited with what I could do with that connection (ie. I couldn't tranfer any music/media).
So yeah if you have any suggestions, please let me know. I'd really appreciate it.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Here is something you should first perhaps try, before those tricks. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Now you are ready to try the tricks, but since this thread is so ancient, I'll re-post my current list of things to try...
Here is the list of troubleshooting articles...hopefully something will be useful:

Also, check that you are using only root USB ports...no hubs (sometimes the front-side ports are hubs...use a rear USB port). And make sure to try disabling USB power management in your system configuration (Device Manager).
Also check on conflicting software...it has been reported that the software package NTI Shadow&Ninja can cause a conflict; removing them and reinstalling the BB desktop software allows it to install correctly.
Apologies in advance if this is redundant -- there's no way to be sure if you've already seen and tried these. Also apologies if any are not presently available...RIM takes them up and down at will as they revise things.
    Hopefully something there is helpful!
    Cheers!

  • Multiple Syncs Required - Blackberry Desktop v7.1.0.41

This problem has been evident for a long time - since one of the v7 upgrades although was never a problem before that. At first it was not clear but it has been 100% reproducable for quite some time. The issue is regarding syncronization...
When Syncing (only do this via USB, if that matters) between BB Bold 9780 and Outlook not all items (speaking of organizer items here) are sync'd in a single "pass" (I'll call it). When a second sync "pass" is manually done immediately after the first there will be additional items to sync!! This should obviously not be the case. By the time a 3rd pass is done, usually there are no items remaining that are different.
What is this that a single "pass" will not fully sync? Any only in recent BB Desktop version?
(just in case - I do not consider it a 'solution' to always synce twice)
