Multiple windows in new itunes

Is there a way to open more than one window at a time in the new itunes?

Losing this feature has me searching in earnest for a new music player/organizer. This feature is *that* important to me!
And yet this feature has apparently been missing from iTunes for more than one year.
I suspect there's a little bit more to your tale than you are letting on.
But thanks for sharing.

  • Multiple windows open in itunes 11

I modify playlists frequently, these playlists are used later, I do not make them up 'un the fly' as it were.
My preferred method of doing this was to open a window containing the playlist I was editing as it showed information I needed like year of origin, beats per minute, composer and rating. I would then drag items from my music window into a specific place in the new playlist which I might go back to and move around a bit. It was a very easy and straightforward process.
Trying to edit playlists the way we have been given in itunes 11 is OK if you don't differentiate between different versions of songs with the same title... it is great for numpties... sorry if I've offended anyone here...
Do I have to go back to 10.7 for the forseeable future, or am I missing something?

    uneek,
Glad you sent feedback that's the prime way to get your voice heard by the developers, if more people complained about this issue you'd see it return. I'm VERY concerned that not enough folks care about this one.
I've even read articles even by techies, who can't really understand the importance of multiple windows. We all use iTunes differently. Personally, I don't care at all about Cover Flow -- but that seems to be the biggest gripe.
Unfortunately,it seems to many these days don't really use this (or any) software to its max. thus some of the best but lesser used features go by the wayside (Video playlists and lyrics display in iDevices etc). My greatest fear is that Smart Playlists might dissappear.
My only hope for iTunes is that v11 began as a major rewrite, and like other Apple software, the most desired features will be added back over time (Final Cut for example). As for now, (even in it's current awful state), iTunes is still better than anything I can find on either platform (Mac or PC).
PS: The support people are NOT go betweens to the people that count (the Devs and management), they don't read these forums and can only confirm known bugs. They really just walk folks through how to do things, fix problems: when software doesn't work as intended. For the most part I've found them excellent

  • Can I still have multiple windows in new versions of iTunes as befire?

With previous versions of iTunes I was able to have the iTunes store, my library and other libraries in separate windows. It seems with newer versions that is no longer possible. Does anybody have figure out how to it?

Disconnect your devices then reboot your computer.
Before connecting your devices again reboot your devices. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Multiple Errors with New iTunes

    Hi Folks,
What's up with the most recent version of iTunes.
    1.  I'm trying to burn a CD (playlist) and iTunes is trying to analyze or "Determining the Audio Volume" for my podcasts.  It also says 225 and I don't have that many.
    2.  Print a cover for my CD.  It freezes when I want to change the print features.   Will not print, can't close window, etc.  I have to re-start my system.
    3.  My previous posting is for a missing iTunes Help -- nothing there.
    4.  If I'm burning a disc with iTunes I can't open an IE or Firefox Browser.  It complete jams my computer.
What's up with this recent version.
Do I need to complete uninstall again.   May be I should just go back to an older version since the newer versions have too many bugs or problems.
    Thanks, katy

I should add that as of this morning iTunes appears to opening fine and reading my iPod (which is inexplicable because I haven't done anything with it since my 1st post.) iTunes still, however, will not save my library. I keep getting error message {-1450}. Also, every time i open iTunes, I am asked to agree to the user agreement, as if i had just downloaded the program.

  • Suddenly having multiple problems with new iTunes

So my iTunes is all messed up and I don't know why.
I recently was given a new PC from my parents, and one of the first things I did was to import my old music library (about 12000 songs on an external hard drive.) When I added the files I kept receiving an error saying that iTunes could not save the library and, sure enough, the next time I opened iTunes there was nothing there. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of itunes in case that was the problem, and after that I couldn't even get it to open, it would always give me a message saying that required files were missing. I have since uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 more times and had no luck.
Most recently i decided to just plug in my iPod and see if my pc would recognize what files were missing on its own. Strangely enough, iTunes opened. Unfortunately it still is unable to save my library. It also says that it cannot read the files on my iPod and that I need to restore its settings, but I would hate to erase it (its a full 160G Classic) just to have itunes be unable to put any files back on it.
If anyone has any idea what is wrong I would greatly appreciate the feedback.

  • Error report on windows for new itunes download

i keep getting error reports when i try to run itunes, but i have uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing has changed...any ideas??

    Hello donada6240,
That definitely sounds frustrating. We have two potential fixes:
    A) The issue may be isolated to your Wi-Fi network. Simply trying again on a different network will give us more insight into where the problem lies.
    B) If the issue does not occur on your computer with iTunes, you may be able to download the purchases there, then sync to your iPad.
I highly recommend trying a different good-known network. And if it is indeed isolated to your network, see the following articles:

  • Multiple windows!!!!!!!!!!!!! please fix this!!!!

Please Apple - I beg you, fix the multiple windows issue in itunes - I really liked being able to bounce back and forth.
No I have to click on the playlist, scroll down, click back, scroll, click and scroll - it's maddening!!!
In one window - I get where I want to be, then I click on the other window. Simple!!!!
    c'mon already!

    "polite feedback".
Ha! I didn't think I said anything out of line. I just said it extremely emphatically.
    Because it is honestly maddening.
And thank you for this link - I have searched the site and that feedback option is not easy to find.

  • ITunes setup on a NAS with multiple windows users - how?

iTunes setup on a NAS with multiple windows users?
I am very confused on what is the best way to handle this setup for my friends family.  Any help would be appreciated.  Sorry in advance as I know this is a long winded post - I have a feeling this will help others faced with the same issues or questions.
    CURRENT SETUP
I have three new Windows 7 machines networked (two desktops and one laptop) that have four users on each - as busy family with children who need the computers for homework, projects, games, etc...  The goal of this setup is that any user can log onto any computer and have there documents available to them no matter computer was free to use.  I set this up using the library function in Windows 7 and seems to work pretty well.
I have put a Buffalo Linkstation NAS on the system as well.  This was going to serve two purposes 1)  run some backup software to protect the computers and 2) consolidate the iTunes content in one place for all users.  There is also an iPad in the home that I should would be better served by accessing the content on the NAS without requiring any of the computers being on.  Dave is thinking about getting some other playback devices like Apple TV so thought a NAS would be a good way to go.
CURRENT ITUNES SETUP - I have created a new iTunes library on the NAS by holding the SHIFT button down while starting iTunes and pointed to that folder on a Share on the NAS.  There was no music on the system at the time as we are planning to copy this over from an OLD machine that is now not being used.  I have also authorized all the computers and turned on the home sharing feature (although I am not sure what good that does).
This “shift” button trick seesm to also point the default directory there without point to it in the advanced setup tab of iTunes.
I then synced one of the iPods with purchased content on it and synced that to the library after asking me to do so before an update.  All the content showed up in the library and was playable - awesome.
I then logged into each user on each machine (yikes) and installed iTunes  and used the “shift” trick to connect each users iTunes to the database on the NAS.  Everything seems to work - but I have not tested it thoroughly.
    SUMMARY
3 new Windwos 7 networked machines
4 identical users on each machine
    1 TB Buffalo linkstation
iTunes setup with the folder on a SHARE
all user’s itunes connected to the iTunes folder on the NAS
all computers authorized with home sharing turned on.
one iTunes user account signed in on each machine
multiple iPods and one iPad in the system
    QUESTIONS/CONCERNS
Is there a better way to do this on a NAS?
Would home sharing be better in some way?
I understand the NAS should show up under the shared section in iTunes - I assume that would mean that would mean each user has an iTunes library on their documents?
I have read that there may be corruption issues if users on the different machines try to access iTunes at the same time.
Will there be any issues syncing that various iPods with?
Ugh - sorry for the long post and all the questions.  I am just trying to find the best way to do this.  I wish Apple would put out a best practices document for setups like this.  Thanks in advance.

This is a user to user support forum. Your fellow users can offer solutions or workarounds based on their experience with the application. If you think it should work differently drop a line to iTunes Feedback.
For reasons unknown Apple haven't chosen to allow iTunes to be suspended in one profile and active in another. My recollection is that this applies even if each profile has a different library, although it is some time since I've committed a personal test.
I'm not sure why my suggestion make less sense that your current approach?. As I understand it currently everybody is either signed into their own account when they can do something other than work with iTunes, or they sign into the special iTunes account where they can't access any of their other stuff. You don't have to disable fast user switching. Follow exactly the same steps, but make sure everyone closes iTunes before turning the computer over to another user. Disabling fast user switching helps to enforce that action.

    Hello hallefrompa,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The following article provides an answer to your question:

iPod shuffle and iPhone are intended for use with a single computer. You cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle and iPhone like you can with other devices.
You'll need to setup your iPod to sync to this new iTunes library:

  • How do i open multiple windows in itunes 11?

how do i open multiple windows in itunes 11?

At the Entourage menu bar, go to File > New and select Open New Main Window. You can open an additional two main windows and select the Address Book for one and the Calendar for the other.
To navigate to a different window, at the menu bar go to Window and select Mail, Address Book or Calendar.
The Mail.app does not incorporate all 3 applications. You can have the Mail.app, Address Book and iCal launched and running and select between each from the Dock along with other ways to do so. The Mail.app also includes an Address Book panel to view all Address Book contacts or to select from when addressing a message. You can't add to, delete or edit contacts from the Mail.app Address Book panel.

  • Windows XP Using iTunes with Multiple Identities

Hi. I'm using Windows XP and iTunes 7. I have my music files on an external drive, but all my library files are in My Music folders. I'd like to share all the music with other users of this PC (my kids) from their own identities. I was able to import the music, but album artwork that iTunes does not have that I imported on my own does not shows up on the new identity.
Also, I am guessing that, if I add a song with the original identity, it will not show up in iTunes with the new identity unless I add the library, folder, song, etc.
Is there a proper way to share iTunes music on the same PC with multiple identities?
In advance, thanks for your help.

  • Opening Multiple Windows in Itunes

Sad but true, I actually HAD to pull out my ancient MacBook (which conveniently has ITunes 9 installed)  because my shiny new MacBook and it's "Simplified New ITunes 11" is virtually a time waster with the absense of multiple windows!
Looking at the old interface and the AWESOME functionality which truly considered the user, really made me think about loss of Steve Jobs at the helm of Apple.
I'm not sure how this "New Apple" can consider less functionality and more razzle dazzle to be progressive.  And trust me... desperately dusting off my old MAC to use features from ITunes 9 feels anything but fresh or progressive.  It only feels sad.
    RIP
Steve Jobs.... What a beautiful mind....

Please. Everyone take a minute to provide Apple feedback on this at the link below. Apple doesn't monitor these discussions, so be nice and explain how important it is to restore this feature.

  • HT204074 A new Windows install of iTunes 11.01.12 will not pick up the past purchases of Apps from my account

There's a number of free and a few purchased iPhone apps that were downloaded to an iPod Touch in the last couple of years, none of which will show up in a new Windows installation of iTunes. The goal of them showing up on a computer is the ability to delete many of them no longer used.
Here's a sequence of actions in an effort to get them to show up on a new Windows iTunes 11.01.12 installaton:
    1) Purchase of an iPad, where all the purchased past store apps display correctly under the "Purchased" tab
    2) Installed the latest iTunes on a Windows 8 computer in order to display, then delete all unwanted app store "purchases," whether free or paid.
    3) Had five defunct authorized past installs of iTunes which needed to be wiped out in order to authorize a new install. Did that.
    4) Successfully authorized the new Windows installation of iTunes 11.01.12 with one and only ID ever made, and it shows that, as well as the new iPad as both authorized with the same ID.
    5) Under the "Preferences" menu, then Store and Advanced, checked Apps under Automatic Downloads. Always check for available downloads and Download pre-orders when available are also checked.
    6) Went to Store menu item, then chose "Check for available downloads" from there. No legacy apps are available and it says: "All purchases have been downloaded for this Apple ID."
The result of all this is that there's still about 30 apps that had been downloaded for an iPod Touch device which don't display in the Windows iTunes installation and thus are still not available for removal.

It also says that "Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on your iPhone", but the only setting I can find is to disable the iCloud notes altogether.
You can change the Default Notes account with which your iPhone syncs by going to Settings > Notes and then tapping "Default Account" from there you can choose iCloud, On My iPhone, and possibly Outlook.
Also, a workaround for the issue is using third-party apps designed to backup your iPhone notes.
Thanks for the tip regarding the third party product (CopyTrans).  This does look like a good workaround
Unfortunately your suggestion re setting the "default account" is inaccurate.
This sets which account new notes will go into, not which account iTunes syncs to.
My default notes account is already set to "On My iPhone", but iTunes refuses to sync it if the iCloud notes account is also activated
My original problem remains.  I still cannot sync to PC while iCloud is one of the active accounts.
Given that notes and mail and calendar all allow for multiple accounts, it seems crazy to me that you can only sync the iColud account if it is activated as one of the multiple accounts.  Any other accounts are ignored by iTunes !!!!

  • Can i open multiple windows or tabs in itunes?

    Hi,
When I look for downloads with Safari I can open multiple tabs to compare items and efficiently use my slow connection. Now apps for iPad are in iTunes, where that option doesn't seem to be possible. Very annoying.
Or am I just missing some trick for opening additional tabs or windows?
    thanks
