Multiple XServe RAIDs to one computer (?)

I have an XServe RAID connected to my Quad via the Fibre Channel card. If I want to add another XServe RAID do I need to get a Fibre Channel switch? Is setting that up simple? Does it work like an ethernet switch? Is putting a second FC card in the Quad an option?

You can go either way.
Fiber channel switches are similar in concept to ethernet switches - connect everything to the switch and the Mac will be able to see all the arrays. If you're only using a single host it's pretty much that simple - if you have multiple hosts connected, though, it gets more complex since you have to use some kind of LUN masking to make sure each host sees the array(s) it's supposed to, and not the others.
On the other hand you can install a second fiber channel card and connect the second array to that - it's easier and cheaper than the fiber channel switch option, but obviously there's a limit as to how many arrays you can grow to in this manner (basically, the number of spare PCI slots you have in your system.
A fiber channel switch has the better long-term growth potential. You'll need to decide whether you think you'll add any more arrays in the future.

Xserve raid brocade switch, do I need xsan for multiple xserve raid with one gbic hba?

So I have 3 xserve raids. I would like to mount all 6 volumes on a single server with a 2 port hba. I have a brocade silkworm 3200, however the raid volumes will not mount. The only thing I can think of is do i need xsan to accomplish this? Initially I gathered it would be like additional resources on a normally data switch bu that does not seem to be the case.

No, you don't need XSAN for this. XSAN is for connecting one or more RAID units to more than one host. Since you only have one host, XSAN isn't an issue.
You may need to look more closely at the switch configuration. Mac OS X doesn't support multipath (at least last time I checked), so you'll need to make sure that you're either using just one link from the server, or that you've setup zoning in the switch so that each link from the server sees a subset of the RAID volumes (e.g. three RAID volumes mapped to each link to the server).
You may also need to check the RAID configurations to make sure you're not using LUN masking (a feature of earlier firmware versions).
One test here would be to connect the server directly to each RAID controller in turn and see if you see the appropriate volumes. The chances are you do, which points back to the switch configuration being the issue.

Multiple iPad sync on one computer fail

I am confused about how to maintain two iPads on one computer. Try it and I get dialog boxes threatening to erase all the content on one iPad. Do I creat multiple libraries? That seems risky in light of the "threat" message in the dialog boxes. Is there a simpler way. Why can't I just plug iPad #1 and iPad #2 into a computer and have iTunes recognize that each one should have a separate library? This seems really silly.

How do I manage multiple Iphone accounts on one computer

My wife desperaely needed to back up her iPhone (been over teo years). I didn't want to do this given that she woulde lose two years worth of data, but we decided to plow ahead. I hit the update button and was advised that there was an earlier backup from last fall. I said I wated to use that back up. Unfortunately it was a backup for my daughter's iphone 5c and now my wife's phone is simply a clone of the 5C. What can I do to pul at least some of her account information back out and show her iPhone again on the devices list?

Each person in your home can have their own Apple ID provided it is tied the their own separate email address.
iTunes permits up to five authorized computers connected to a single Apple ID: iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
For this all to work well, however, each user in your household should have a separate user account on the computer they commonly use.

I like to get an idea how to connect multiple Xserve Raid to get the best performance for FCP to do multiple stream HD.

Again, for storage (and retrieval), FireWire 400 should be fast enough. If you are encoding video directly to the external drive, then FireWire 800 would probably be beneficial. But as long as the processing of the video is taking place on the fast internal SATA drive, and then you are storing files on the external drive, FireWire 400 should be fine.
Instead of speculating about whether it will work well or not, you need to set it up and try your typical work flow. That is the only way you will know for sure if performance is acceptable or not.
For Time Machine, you should use a single 1.5TB drive. It is likely that by the time your backup needs comes close to exceeding that space, you will be able to buy a 3TB (or larger) single drive for the same cost. Also, I would not trust a RAID where the interaction between the two drives is through two USB cables and a hub. If your primary storage drive fails, you need your backup to be something that is simple and reliable.
Oh, and there should be no problem with the adapter, if you already have it and it works.
Edit: If those two external drives came formatted for Windows, make sure you have use Disk Utility Partition tab to repartition and reformat the drive. When you select the drive in the Disk Utility sidebar, at the bottom of the screen +Partition Map Scheme+ should say *GUID Partition Table*. When you select the volume under the drive in the sidebar, Format should say *Mac OS Extended (Journaled)*.

Multiple Xserve RAID's presented to one XServe

Can more than one Xserve RAID box be presented to a single XServe computer? The XServe user manual indicates only the upper PCI slot may be used for a FC HBA. A dual port FC HBA allows me to connect to one Xserve RAID- both controllers. If I want to connect to additional XServe RAID boxes, what are my options (other than XSAN)?

It has always been my understanding that this is possible, but I haven't actually configured such a system. If you want "real world" confirmation you may have to check with Camelot or DaddyPayCheck about this exact set-up. I have experience plugging multiple Xserves into single RAIDs but not the other way around yet.
I have done the logical equivalent and hooked up an Xserve to a switch with only one cable (the other routed to a backup device) and had two RAID sides attached to the switch which worked fine.To me this demonstrates the "sides > connector" set-up as functional but I understand if you want more proof.
Apple assumes you're going to switched fabric set-up once you pass 1 to 1 connections and multiple RAIDs attached to the fabric are not a problem. You do, of course, loose the ability to push the edge of performance so something HD video in this environment is not feasible.

Connect 2 Xserve RAIDs to one Xserve

Hello folks,
I have two XServe RAIDs which I bought on eBay and one Xserve G4 with FC RAID controller (2 SFP connectors). I also own a FC switch. Is it possible to connect both XServe RAIDs to the one server and have an access to all arrays there?

1) What does the Fibre say under System Profiler? Do you see SCSI devices hanging off your fibre? Because you should.
2) There is also a Fibre Utility or Fibre in your System preferences depending on your OS version. Check that to see what it says.
3) If everything seems right and nothing is working that's often a sign of LUN masking. You will need a copy of RAID Admin 1.5 (not 1.5.1) to check for LUN masking if you start to suspect it as it was removed in v1.5.1.
3a) There can also be zoning on your FC switch and other things partitioning up your network.
4) Hook up RAID Admin to the machine over ethernet (if you haven't already) to get a look at the RAID internals.
As a sanity check I would start by plugging the RAID sides directly into the computer and eliminating the switch as a factor. That should start to narrow down the variables quickly. If you're getting communication and negotiation but no visibility I would suspect LUN masking. If you get volume visibility through the cable but not the switch then look at the switch.

Multiple ipods belonging to multiple family members on one computer

How do I keep my family's libraries separate on one computer. I have been checking and unchecking songs each time I sync one of my children's ipods. It is driving me nuts. There has got to be a better way. My husbands library alone so far is 1300 songs. HELP!

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
a) Sharing a single iTunes library
b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
c) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): iPod - Syncing Music
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

After updating to iTunes 11, issues with multiple Apple IDs on one computer

My boyfriend and I both use the iMac, and both have Apple IDs. We are separate users on the iMac, and each logs in to his or her "side." Neither one of us had the slightest iTunes problem until we updated to iTunes 11. Now, I just discovered that the iMac is linked with his iTunes account for at least another 46 days, which means that I'm not allowed to download to the iMac purchases I made under my Apple ID on my phone.
Is there a way to fix this? It's ridiculous that one of us would be locked out for 90 days at a time when all we want to do is back up music we legally purchased.

Multiple users can "authorize" content on one computer, but in order to re-download content (including Match and stuff purchased on another device/computer), you have to "associate" the computer with that AppleID, and this can only be done for one AppleID per computer and can only change every 90 days.
This has always been the rule, but it's more obvious since iTunes 11, because all your previous purchases now appear as cloud content, and it's easy to screw things up by accident.
If you email the iTunes store, it's possible they will reset the counter and let you switch back to your AppleID (they did for me), but they will only do this once.
There's really no reason to "back up" stuff purchased from the store. If you want to listen to it on the computer, you can do "transfer purchases" while syncing, so there are workarounds. Still, it's unquestionably a stupid rule that punishes legitimate users and does nothing to stop illegal sharing. I encourage you to write very nasty feedback about it.

Also consider getting them their own AppleID, setting each person up with their own user account on the computer, and look into Family Sharing possibilities. If you use multiple AppleIDs on a computer make sure you maintain a backup of all media. There is a 90 day wait time between using different Apple Ids with the iTUnes Store for the purposes of re-downloading past purchases.

Multiple iPad accounts on one computer?

I have only been an Apple person for about a year and a half, so I call on the Apple gods for help.
My dad and stepmom each have an iPad (1st and 3rd generation), but share a laptop (Dell Latitude). They want certain apps on their iPads, but don't want them to sync to each others.
I thought the best idea was to set up two iTune accounts (using their separate email addresses). I thought I could log in iTunes with one account, set up one iPad, then sign out, sign in the other, and repeat the process.
My dad just got the 3rd generation one, so I set it up from brand new. When I plug it in to sync, even under his iTunes account, it syncs all apps I want, so I was happy. When I try to run updates for it wirelessly, it asks for the password associated with my step mom's address and account ?!?
What can I do to set up (2) iPads on same computer and keep apps from appearing on each iPad when they want to have their own apps?

Multiple iPod users on one computer, one iTunes

Need help.
We have 3 iPod 5th generation using one computer and each of us have different tastes in music/movies/games etc. I just spent 6 hours redoing my personal setting to resync my iPod after my son reset it for his tastes. Is there any way of setting up preferences within iTunes for each iPod to prevent or elivate this total waste of time. When adding new music, audiobooks, and/or movies it should be a no-brainer to resync them but it is a total pain-in-the-arse.
