1. NO, you cannot have different instances of WLS with same version of SOA and using same middleware home. The underlying Weblogic Server version is tightly coupled with the SOA Version deployed on top of it.
2. We cannot mismatch wls and soa versions, even though they may work. But it is not supported and not recommended. Infact corresponding IDE like JDev version should also match accordingly. And finally the RCU version should also match.
WLS 10.3.5 -> SOA 11.3.5
WLS 10.3.4 -> SOA 11.3.4
WLS 10.3.3 -> SOA 11.3.3

I have two different applications using WLS. Is it possible to have these applications
servers on the same box with multiple cpu's. Please note that this is different
to clustering the same application on one box.
What are the pros and cons of sharing one box (W2K) for two non integrated app.
some have recommended that it saves cost of the hardware. I wonder if the cost
of hardware offsets the dependencies that one incurs having two applications on
one box (QA, uptime, downtime, scalability..) etc etc.
Would like to hear some thoughts and maybe white papers..

Not uncommon; works fine. W2K? Not as good as unix for uptime and running
more than one copy of notepad at a time ;-)

Deploying multiple apps on one instance of wls 8.1

We currently have have one huge application (one ear file) running on one instance
of wls 8.1. We plan to break this up in 3 different application (3 different ear
files). We are using split
development directory structure of weblogic 8.1. Out problem is, we have some
ejbs and some war files (like servlets anf jsps) which are common across all the
applications. How do we manage this ? Do we make a different application for this
common component ?

Out of curiousity, why are you splitting up the ear?
How do you intend to package the common ejbs/webapps across the 3 ear files?
If you're going to copy the common files into each application, then i
would probably have a separate build.xml that builds the common pieces.
The other apps can just copy these common pieces into their build
directory. If the common pieces aren't changing very frequently, then
this is pretty nice.

Running multiple instances on same machine

I need to run multiple instances of BEA WLS on a unix machine. I need 4 separate instances (dev and test for two different departments) on one machine and two production instances on another machine. What is the best way to go about separating these (ex. an account or directory structure for each)?

Dev/Test:
Give each one its own domain name - i.e. a separate directory under config. This
works well.
Production:
Do the same, but to keep licensing costs down, I'd be inclined to run everything
on a single instance.

Has anyone installed multiple instances of Portal server 2005Q1 on a Weblogic container ?
We were unable to set up multiple instances of Portal2004Q2 on the Weblogic container. Looks like this issues is addressed in 2005Q1.
This is posing serious concerns to our architecture scalability. Would greatly appreciate if you could let us know the issues you faced for setting up Portal2005Q1 on Weblogic8.1SP4,if any.

There should not be a significant negative performance impact. The biggest
issue will probably the amount of memory the 10 instances will use, not any
CPU impact. On larger SMP systems, it is not uncommon to run several
instances of WLS in a cluster (perhaps one for every 2 - 4 CPU's) to
improve performance.

Opening Files in Multiple Instances of Excel 2010

I've been using multiple instances of Excel 2003 using two monitors for a long time using Windows XP. I used to do this by opening Excel and opening Excel again from the Start menu and opening files through windows explorer and controlling which instance
of Excel it would open because it opens based on the recent active Excel instance. For example, I open Excel program instance #1 and then I open Excel program instance #2. If I click on the Excel program 1 and then go to windows explorer and open
a file, it will open on Excel program instance #1. If I click on instance #2 then open a file, it will open on instance #2.
However, now I have Windows 7 Pro with Excel 2010. At first, it would ALWAYS open the file in the first instance of Excel whenever I opened a file from windows explorer. I found some registry edits that will open a file in a new instance of Excel
EVERY time. I don't really like either solution. I want to control the number of Excel instances and determine which instance I want the file to open. I know I can do this via the Open/File menu in Excel but it's a much more onerous
way. I would like to know if there is a way I can make Excel 2010 and Win7 behave the way it did before with Excel 2003 and WinXP.

- i have 2 Excel-Instances running (can see it with TaskMgr) and i don´t want any
more Excel-Instances starting
- for several reasons (data-comparison side-by-side on 2 monitors, etc.), i´d like to control, in which instance
double-clicked XLS-Documents from Mails, Web-Downloads or (most wanted!) PlSql-Developers
"Export to Excel"-function should open
- with Office2003 / WinXP it was very simple:
just activate the desired Excel instance before doing
the double-click or calling the export-function ... the XLS-Document opens exactly in a new window
of the previously activated Excel-instance
So it´s not about opening always in new Excel-Instances, therefore all .bat-Solutions or Registry-
modifications i´ve seen so far wont help. Also the mouse-drag/drop will not work for Web-Downloads
or Database-Exports, even sometimes not for XLS in Outlook-Mails.
Yes, i agree: Win 7 / Office 2010 is a massive downgrade for all users, that need informations on the
screen (instead of large, fancy icons), that want fast and efficient functionality (instead of clicking around
through "ribbons" and waiting more than twice a time for same operations, that run in XP/Office2003 simply great)
After digging the web, experimenting with registry-hacks, etc., i didn´t find any REAL solution.
That´s why i feel, all those of you (incl. me), that
have used their machines like described above, have lost.

You can run multiple instances of IIS( in frontend cluster) and weblogic server (in . backend cluster) However for multiple wls servers running on the same machine and members of same cluster , have to listen to same port, so to run multiple WLS instances,
          you must use same port for all wls instances. You can bind them to different addresses using multihoming.
          In such case, configure cluster with machines and replication groups to choose 2ndry on a physicall different machine

Clustering w/ Multiple Instances per server

For performance reasons, we want to setup multiple instances of weblogic on each server in our cluster configuration.How is this handled in a cluster configuration? Is each instance considered another server in the cluster? Does each require its on IP address, or is a seperate port sufficient for each? Also, is there a way to configure the cluster w/o using multicast - there's issues with supporing multicast on our backend network.Thanks, Rick


Sure, if JVM uses native threads and the application itself is well-behaved
          concurrency-wise (very important!) it should be able to scale up on multiple CPUs.

Flash 8 Video Encoder multiple instances

Is there any way I can set up to run multiple instances of
Flash 8 Video Encoder to take advantage of a multi core resource? I
have a dual CPU dual Opteron box (ie, 4 cores available) and find
it disappointing to see such slow renders and all that CPU going to
waste.
On the other hand, does anyone know of a really good, fast,
multi-threaded ON2 VP6 solution? I also use Autodesk Cleaner which
is still dependent on the Flash 8 encoder (and therefor on
Quicktime) and doesn't do any better, and is also very unstable
around Quicktime.

Ah, yes, I had missed that, thank you. There are two sliders
(Win Version) : Compression Thread Active Priority and Inactive
Priority. I'm not sure what that means, but did a test with just
the active thread to max, and it made no difference to apparent cpu
core activity nor to render time. I've just tried it again with
both sliders maxed, with the same result. It may be that on a
machine that hasn't got much headroom, or is concurrently doing a

You should place the .ini file in the root directory of your WebLogic
installation, for example weblogic/iisproxy.ini.

They should work fine. However, you should note that you'll not be able to
cluster the WebLogic servers in this configuration.

Multiple instances of Mail.app must be possible

I've seen many questions regarding the possibility of running multiple instances of Mail.app as separate processes. There seems to be much good reason to be able to do so, i.e. separating work and private mail, and very little bad reason to do so (maybe some problems when doing upgrades or backups, but I'm not yet sure of this). It also seems that it should not be so hard to do.
So far, using some web acquired wisdom, I've done the following:
1. Duplicate mail.app:
sudo ditto Mail.app WorkMail.app
2. Rename the executable:
mv /Applications/WorkMail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail /Applications/WorkMail.app/Contents/MacOS/WorkMail
3. Use Property List Editor to set the following values in/Applications/WorkMail.app/Contents/Info.plist (Apple-S to Save changes!):
Root/CFBundleExecutable=WorkMail
Root/CFBundleIdentifier=com.apple.workmail
Root/CFBundleName=WorkMail
Root/NSServices/0/NSPortName=WorkMail
Root/NSServices/1/NSPortName=WorkMail
Root/NSServices/2/NSPortName=WorkMail
Root/UTExportedTypeDeclarations/0/UTTypeIdentifier=com.apple.workmail.emlx
Root/UTExportedTypeDeclarations/1/UTTypeIdentifier=com.apple.workmail.emlx.part
4. Create the following directories:
mkdir ~/Library/WorkMail Downloads
mkdir ~/Library/WorkMail
4. Launch the 'new' application 'WorkMail'.
5. Create mail accounts using the application's 'wizard'.
Here is where the first problem is encountered. The new account directories and files are still created at ~/Library/Mail. Navigating to Mail->Preferences->Accounts->[account_name]->Advanced seems to offer the option to change the mail store account directory, but nothing can actually be changed here. So...
6. Quit WorkMail.
7. Move newly created account(s) directories (where [newaccountdirectory] is a directory named with the format: [mail_type]-[user]@[domain].[tld]@[pop].[domain].[tld]]) to the correct location:
sudo mv ~/Library/Mail/[newaccountdirectory] ~/Library/WorkMail/
8. Use Property List Editor to set the following values in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.workmail.plist (Apple-S to Save changes!):
/Root/ActiveViewers/0/AttachedMailboxListExpandedItems/[0to_#_ofaccounts]/=~/Library/WorkMail/Mailboxes/...

9. Relaunch WorkMail.
Everything at this point seems to work okay, **BUT** when I launch Mail while WorkMail is launched, I find that I cannot navigate into any mail folders within Mail. I receive an error message indicating that a necessary directory is locked. It seems that the locking mechanism used by the application may be hard-coded to lock ~/Library/Mail, and both instances of the application continue to take this action when launched, making it impossible for both to work harmoniously at the same time. I will conduct more testing and experimentation, but I am not yet capable of editing the application itself. If anyone can take us this last step, I'm sure there are many who would also like to be able to take advantage of the potential functionality.

Well, I do have a programming background, and I must say that it amazes me that someone might want to do what you did to “solve” a problem that IMO doesn’t exist.
What exactly is it that you expect to accomplish by running multiple instances of Mail, and for which neither (1) organizing your mail using multiple mail accounts, custom mailboxes, rules, and/or smart mailboxes, nor (2) setting up separate user accounts, are acceptable solutions? I just don’t get it.

I have successfully created an animated button that opens to reveal a quotation with a nested clickable link to the source. What I would like to do is have several of these with different quotes inside them, scattered on the page. I have looked at the composition loader available via Edge Commons, and it seems that would require some sort of Edge animate Stage 'frame' to load the instances into? Is there any way to place them directly into the master page - as div elements...?
The outer of the buttons is the same, on hover they open partialy on click fully, to reveal their particular text - which I thought about loading it at runtime with json, or maybe handlebars...?
I would also like to make the buttons only take the necessary space. ie. before they expand they are only buttons. ( I have set the stage to hidden but it still takes up space). To acheive this, I think perhaps I will have to target the inner components css, and set them as display:none until the button is hovered over, then set :hover and :active pseudo classes inside edge. Is this feasible?

But there is an error I don't understand at line 7...
Also - as you can see, at present I have several symbols in parallel. Would I be better off nesting the text containers inside the outer button container? and would I be better off creating styled mini- pages of text data, and then loading them - instead of loading them as symbols? I have had to create seperate symbols because I cannot adequately stle the text - so some is bold, some is italic etc. within one text field. Or can I? I guess I could nest several text fields inside one symbol...?

In your example you were still loading into an animation But from yor example, I guess I would need to place all my examples inside an outer edge composition... but then I think positioning them accurately with css, making adjustments etc. will be fairly tricky. The only observations are that the backup drive is deemed too small and the quite long list of diagnostic reports dated between Jan 18, 2015 (which I believe is the day I upgraded to Yosemite) & today the latest Yosemite update was installed on Jan 28, 2015

Multiple instances of firefox running cannot kill in task manager "Access denied"

There's no issue with starting a new instance after closing one, the "firefox is already running" error is not occurring (ok maybe once or twice a month, but it's not related to this problem, as my problem happens all the time.)
Apparently when closing a ff window it never fully stops. My computer slows down because of it and these multiple instances of firefox show up in Task Manager. When I try to kill the extra processes it just goes "BANG" and the "access denied" error dialog box appears. They are all running under my user account, and in CPU some are just 10 or 25 and some are in the hundreds and some are over a million. what the heck is going on?
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and ff 23.0 but this has been happening since about ff 15 (?)

When closing Firefox completely, it is important to close it using the <i>Exit</i> button, located inside of the Firefox/File menu.
Another cause to this problem could be a Firefox preloader. Do you have any programs that will load Firefox automatically? They are supposed to improve start time.
You can also '''try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
