Multiples program folders open uncontrollably.

I have a program that when I scroll past it in the Applications folder, multiple duplicates of this program's folder open up, causing the rainbow "thinking" circle to go crazy, preventing me from closing said crap ton of opened folders. Any ideas? Thanks!

If you remove the application (even if you just temporarily move it to the trash without emptying the trash), does the problem persist? When you "scroll past" the program, are you selecting it in any way, and does this happen if you press Fn-down/up arrow or Page Down/Up to similarly scroll past the item?
Do you have any third-party mouse drivers or input managers installed on your system (ie, those that add new gestures, or other mouse functions)? If so then these may be configured to open the folder or perform a related function when you invoke a scroll behavior.
Finally, are the opened folders the program package itself, or a folder containing the program? If it's the package, then the folder that opens will have a directory called "Contents," in which there will be files such as "Info.plist," "PkgInfo," and "version.plist" along with folders called "Resources" and MacOS" among some others. If it's just a folder containing the program, then you will see the program (ie, it's application icon) and perhaps some accompanying support files and folders.

okay I've finally been able to get tor and all the other programs to work according to my plan the only thing that's still making problems is that iptables doesn't work as I want it to, when I start chromium without proxy settings privoxy doesn't seem to forward the information to polipo.. do I need to add another rule to iptables.rules in order for the program to know it has to reroute the information again or how can I get this to work? and is there any way to run rtorrent with proxy support?
anyway, problem 2 and 3 are still to be solved.

That's a nice system Kevin, and it will work very nicely with Photoshop.  I do take it that you have 16Gb RAM in Total?
250Gb SSD is a good size, but you can still run short, and that will affect Windows performance.  When you get your system, instal WinDirStat which gives you a graphic display of everything on your drive, like below. Clicking on any of the large areas will tell you what and where they are, so you can think about moving cache folders etc. to one of the HDDs.
Leave the Pagefile.sys on the boot drive.  Think about disabling Hyphenate as it takes a ton of space, and too often crashes on wake up.
    My Documents
    Desktop
    Downloads
    Look at Bridge cache
    iTunes backup
    Other stuff like that.
Think about another 500Gb drive just for Photoshop Scratch.  Drives are cheap as chips nowadays
Do yourself a favour, and invest $100 in Shadow Protect (or similar if there is such a thing) SP saves incremental backups every 15 minutes (you can set the interval, but it has no impact on performance with a system like yours).  If you have a problem you can mount the back up at any of those 15 minute points, and open files from it.  You can also make a bootable DVD image of your C drive, and be back up and running five minutes after disaster strikes.

  • Safari warning before quitting when multiple tabs are open?

I'm a rather clumsy typist who often uses Apple+Tab to toggle through my open programs. This works great 99% of the time, but that other 1% is rather frustrating considering that the Q key is right next to Tab.
Apple guys, please implement a pop up/drop down warning when attempting to quit Safari when multiple tabs are open (or at least the option to enable or disable it). I use this browser for work and often have many tabs open, so accidentally quitting the browser only impedes on my workday. I know I should be more accurate, but isn't that what part of progress is? The empowerment of laziness? =)
Thanks for your time, and hopefully we see this included in soon-to-come upgrades!

  • How do I view multiple inbox folders at the same time in Mail?

I want to configure Mail to show me multiple inbox folders at the same time. I want to be able to split the screen and show in the top section unread messages, then messages I've marked with label A, then messsges I've marked with label B, then everything else in my inbox (like using the multiple inbox feature in Gmail). Is this possible?

Just figured it out - I can select multiple messages as you suggested when I am not in full screen mode.
So once I come out of full screen mode - then the multiple windows open.

  • In Windows 7, how to make music folders open with iTunes??

    Ok, here’s my little problem:
In Windows 7, I have iTunes installed with WMP disabled. In the registry, I have added a Windows Explorer right-click shortcut for folders so that I can choose to open/play that folder’s content in iTunes (see image link below).
    http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u297/akita11/Explorer.jpg
All well and good, but I’m the lazy type. So what I would like, is when I left-click on a music folder that has audio files (like mp3’s) in it, instead of Windows Explorer opening the folder, for Windows to open/play such a folder in iTunes automatically. But, and that’s the thing I guess, this should only apply to music folders with audio files (like mp3’s) in it, and not to any other folder containing non-audio files.
I know I can go to the Folder Options control panel applet | File types, and edit the advanced settings for “Folder” from ‘Explore’ to ‘Play with iTunes’ as the default. But then this will be applied so that all and any folders open in iTunes, which isn’t exactly what I’m after.
I guess this can be handled via an advanced registry change, just like I added the Windows Explorer right-click shortcut via a simple registry setting. But for the **** of me I can’t figure out how to do it. I did google around a bit, but without any success.
All help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

You need to place a shortcut to open Firefox in the Start > Programs > Startup folder.<br />
That is basically the same in all Windows versions.

  • Why can't you tell whether or not a program is open?

When looking at all of the icons on my dock (or is it dashboard?) at the bottom of the screen, there is no indication of which programs are open (and therefore should be closed for greater efficiency) and which are closed. Is this now an option or an "improvement" (that frankly eludes me)? If there's a way to turn on the active-inactive indicator for programs represented by the icons in my dock, I'd appreciate learning the secret.
    Thanks,
    Cap

Thanks, I didn't know about that command. The site, I see, has hundreds of docks to choose from. Avoid the reflective ones, the checkered ones, and a few others, and you should be OK. The problem is the inadequate attention given to the learning curve some of us require to download them, go through 4-5 sets of sub-folders, give terminal commands, etc. to make the replacement. I tried with the minimal instructions provided and wound up reinstalling Leopard (the idea is to trash the contents of a deeply embedded original folder but to back it up while inserting new contents into the original folder--it soon lost me, and I lost my original folder and dock altogether). Darn those white dots and the reflective effect of the icons sitting on a mirror.

  • Acrobat 9.5.5 multiple .pdf files open without toolbars displaying

Recently, I noticed that, when I open one .pdf file, all toolbars I have selected as customized are displayed.  But, upon opening additional ,pdf files, those files do not display my toolbars at the top - only the file menu shows up.  If I try to close the limited toolbar files, I get the error "Adobe Acrobat 9.5 has stopped working," and the programs aborts.  I've searched the web to no avail for a solution.  My work requires I have multiple Adobe files open, but these additional files have extremely limited functionality without the toolbars.
Event Viewer indicates the following errors:
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.dll
I'm running Win 7 Pro 64-bit, on Intel i7, with 14 GB RAM, 224GB SSD/68 GB free.  My system should more than amply support the application.
My thought is a recent Adobe update or Windows update caused this anomaly.  Has anyone else experienced this issue?  Please advise - I'm desperate for a resolution.  Thanks.

Update - when you select View -Toolbars on the additional files, all the customized toolbars are check-marked, so they should be displaying.  But, they don't.

    Bill@VT,
Thank you for your reply.  Your recommendation is not the issue for sure.  I had tested by opening numerous files on my system, which I know are not secure.  The first file opened with all toolbar functionality, and the rest of the files opened in limited view.  These are files I've created and opened numerous times in the past with no issues, until recently.
I've since installed Adobe Pro XI Trial, as well as a couple other .pdf maker apps.  I had already remove Adobe Pro 9.5.5, so I can't reinstall while I have XI on my system - the installation aborts.  My assessment, after spending hours researching it, is that there's a conflict in my OS and 9.5.5.  At this point, I have to cut my losses (time & billable hours) and move onto a more stable, dependable application.  It's probably not going to be an Adobe product, sad to say.  Too many issues, too little accessible and timely support.
I am grateful for your input in my scenario. Have a splendid day/evening!

  • Redirect to their corresponding index.jsp files from multiple sub folders

    Hi,
I have a doc root in the location /opt/htdocs/defaultapp, where defaultapp is the application with war file(with jsps and java code) in weblogic.
There are multiple sub folders in docroot like /opt/htdocs/defaultapp/ra, /opt/htdocs/defaultapp/info, ...etc.
ra, info has index.jsp files from weblogic but not in docroot. So, If there are 12 sub folders like this, how can I use a single <If> condition to do that.
I can also do in this way
    NameTrans fn="restart" from="/ra/" uri="/ra/index.jsp"
    NameTrans fn="restart" from="/info/" uri="/info/index.jsp"
If I don't define in the above manner, the browser is giving me the directory listing.
again I have subfolders under /ra, /info but without jsps, so when a user tries to open these folders it should return him an error page
    finally, if the user requests
    http://192.168.1.1:10000/<any-sub-folder>/ it should open http://192.168.1.1:10000/<any-sub-folder>/index.jsp
if the user requests http://192.168.1.1:10000/<any-sub-folder>/<any-sub-folder2> it should redirect to error page
    Thanks,

If /opt/htdocs/defaultapp is a Java web application being served by WebLogic then you shouldn't be configuring Sun Web Server to do the welcome file processing for directories. Instead, you should look at the welcome file configuration in WebLogic and in your web application.

  • Multiple programs recording from same sou

Hi, I have a audigy and I cant use the record function in multiple programs. Like, when im using the teamspeak and try to open skype, just the teamspeak can record from microphone and skype dont work.
    Any help, thank you.

You would have to close your DAQmx reference in one vi before another vi could open one on the same DAQ device.  You could have some sort of flag variable, maybe a LV style functional global, that would signal the need for DAQ use.  Some sort of arbitration scheme in a separate vi would determine who gets priority over DAQ use.  It would then send signals (more funtional globals) to each subvi telling them who should close and who should open.  The differenct vi's would have to coninually poll the functional globals to see if they should open or close their session.  This will be quite complex.

  • Can time machine be set to not back up when certain programs are open?

Yes, time machine can be turned off manually before playing games downloading a large file, etc. Is there any way for time machine to not back up while a specified game or program is open? Or is there an app that helps with this? Thanks!

  • Folders open on startup

Ok, I have a program called acquisition (naughty, I know ), and for some reason, when ever i turn my computer on, the 'incomplete' folder opens twice. It's not a major issue, but its just really annoying. I've found that if I delete the 'incomplete' folder, that Macintosh HD opens instead.
Should I store everything on my laptop on an external hard drive and reset the computer? Or is there a setting wich my computer has decided to turn on which I can turn off?
If I have to reset my computer, how do I do this?

Having strange files and/or folders open when starting up (or logging in) means that the startup resources that you have in your Accounts settings have had their paths messed up. This happens when you restore a volume from a backup or use migration assistant to set up a new machine from an old one.
What you need to do is go to your Accounts settings in the System Preferences application and click on the ’Login Items’ tab. Then copy the names of all the files you have listed. Then erase them from the list (with the minus sign below the list). Then rebuild the list from the copy you made. All your startup items should now launch properly when you start up or log in.
